Yeah, if they were tradeable I would be much more OK with it. There’s an RNG way and a chance to earn, fair enough. Just RNG is not cool though.
I bought some boxes before finding out the minis were account-bound. That’s pretty unexpected, and I hope it’s just an issue with the lotto boxes that ANet fixes.
I’m liking ANets events overall, but honestly the whole RNG approach is making me rethink gem purchases. I would happily buy 2 gem packs, or even 6 individual minis (350 gems * 6 = 1400 gems, that’s reasonable). But the RNG approach leaves a bad taste in my mouth, since it’s literally possible to spend $100s and get nothing.
I kind of disagree. Especially at higher levels or with cloth armor, there seems to be few modest armor options. Like, only 1 of the orders has modest-looking cloth armor for women.
I’m all for more armor diversity, but that should include more modest options as well. I guess we agree that they need more varied armor.
Burst damage depends on builds. Thief probably? But glass-cannon build eles can put out a ton of damage, so IDK. Maybe try asking in the class forums.
Ele has a more active and engaging playstyle. Harder to learn, but once you have it down you rock in ways other classes simply can’t. Battles are more like dances, only the dance floor is the skulls of your enemies. I’m still learning, but I can already see how I can be really deadly once I get it down.
My thief is simply more boring to play. I love her anyway, but ele is my main and I have a blast. The biggest drawback is that eles are fairly squishy atm.
Weeee, Wintersday!
Thanks for the answer Gaile. Unfortunately Tarnished Coast filled up before I finished work today. Now I’m left with hoping they lose people in large enough numbers that I can grab a spot.
Making them is expensive and time-consuming. I like making dyes for friends who send me ingredients, but right now it’s a lot better to just buy common dyes from the TP.
Submitting multiple tickets slows the process down. You may have hurt yourself if you submitted multiple tickets. Also, you should make a support ticket and not an in-game ticket. Support tickets are made here, click on Ask A Question: https://en.support.guildwars2.com/
Even easier – hit B, click Go To WvW, pick your server’s borderland, find the Lion’s Arch gate, and go through.
It’s obviously not people changing servers. All the NA servers are now at Very High, when before all but a handful were at full.
What I want to know is if this is a one-time bump, or if it’s some kind of policy keeping all the servers open for Wintersday events / new Christmas players.
p.s. $20 says ill get infracted for saying nerd rage :rolls eyes:
I’m going to admit. I nerd rage… hard. :P
Everyone does, even if they say they don’t.Though to be honest, I won’t be able to play much and checking the 10am times on the wintersday stuff, that makes it around 6-7am in the morning for me, the following day – Since i’m in NZ.
I already missed out on the Karka event because of the time it was set up
I hope in the future they can set it up where it runs for a while like Winters Day will be doing (Hopefully the toymaker is in each zone for the whole day so I can visit it when I get up and have time lol)
It’s been confirmed repeatedly that Trixx is in each city for a whole day. Also, once he gets to LA you can replay any day’s events and get that day’s rewards. ANet really went all out on making sure no one could complain about being left out.
Ah. No, I can’t see any reason for that to be bannable. If falling through the world / graphical glitches counted as ban-worthy offenses I don’t think we’d have any players left in the game at all.
Hello,
I just saw that the NA servers are now listed as all Very High instead of Full. This is awesome, but I’ve got a question. How long will the pop limits be open? Can we generally expect the servers to stay at Very High throughout the Christmas event?
Thanks!
I’m not even sure what that means.
It sounds like you’re talking about setting yourself to offline status? Not sure why you’d think that is any kind of an issue. Or about falling through the world? That’s a graphics bug, not your problem unless you can’t WP out)
IMO, it shows that a lot of botters and hackers are trying to make a quick buck while they can, leaving their customers to deal with bans and support. Normal people don’t try to sell MMO accounts on the black market.
Water-specced elementalists are awesome healers and can also dish out damage as required. They aren’t necessarily tanky, but you can build them that way. Check out the elementalist forums here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist
Your CPU seems a little under-powered. That would be the first thing I’d try to improve, but that’s a tricky thing to do.
I don’t follow NVIDEA cards, but I don’t think the 550 is up to much. So upgrading that might also help. GW2 is pretty CPU intensive though.
Transfers are free, in the characer select screen in the bottom left corner is the World Selection button.
Ehmry Bay was Very High not too long ago, so it’ll probably drop back down to that sometime soon. I’d try at random times.
Your family could also transfer to where you are.
Gold in the TP is treated like an item, so if there was enough stuff blocking the Take All queue it wouldn’t show up. Don’t know if that’s the OPs problem, but it might be?
OP could also have been impacted by rollback testing that’s reportedly been taking place over the past few weeks for the Account Restoration Tool.
It’s been obvious for some that that GW2’s backend has some quirks. TP bugs are one of them. I’m hoping they get ironed out soon.
They’re probably adding ascended gear drops to the whole world (PvE, WvW, etc), like it was originally supposed to be at launch. That would impact everything, basically.
The AMA said that was the original plan, but they hadn’t quite balanced it or something, and Chris Whiteside made the call to go ahead with the Fractals-only ascended rollout. Which is why he got stuck doing an 8-hour Reddit AMA no doubt.
@Glitch I’m not trying to go for a challenge (i’d be playing PvP or a different game if I wanted just a challenge), it’s more of sharing the experience of discovering new content, be surprised, trying to figure out things with others, and eventually share the glory. After 800 hrs I’m pretty much worn out of the non-dungeon PvE experience because I’ve made 8 characters, 4 lvl 80s the rest 40~70s, i’ve enjoyed every step of the way don’t get me wrong but, after the 8th time…
On helping others for fun, yes, I was that guy for 10 yrs+ of my MMO gaming life when i was still in school/college, and that’s with games that did not even reward helping other players at all (re-running AC at least get u scaled loot and its kinda fun) now with the limited time I have with work and irl stuff, I would like to change my priorities within the free time I have on GW2.
I’m missing the point of this thread I guess, didn’t know this was a guild commitment thing. I thought it was just, where ppl meet others and hang out. In fact I’m beginning to think this belongs in the Guild Recruitment subforum after reading the alienating responses from Glitch i.e. “We are not what you are looking for”.
Sorry for coming here thinking this was a gathering ground for the entire GW2 community, instead of another Guild Community with specific requirements for commitment. I’ve been playing with some irl friends with my own guild just for the guild stash and bonuses so I can’t contribute much in another guild. Thanks for reading and have fun in game.
You can just use this thread to ID people to talk to on your server, or you can sign up for the guild. Either one is basically cool.
FWIW, I haven’t yet been able to do any dungeons or whatnot with guild members. I mostly just keep the chat channel open and answer questions or talk to people when I’m online. We’re not about hardcore dungeoning, which I think is what Glitch thought you were looking for, just about making sure everyone (especially new people) has a good time.
Your CPU is definitely not good enough. The other components look fine, although your graphics card is way out of line with your other specs unless that’s a typo.
GW2 doesn’t have a subscription, so waiting until you have enough money for a new computer isn’t a problem at least. I think you basically need to get a new motherboard + CPU, and more RAM wouldn’t hurt.
LOL
I’ve had that happening to my chars for a while. Seems to happen more when I go to the character select screen from ingame than when I first log in. Didn’t think it was a big deal so haven’t submitted a bug report yet.
I see. I hadn’t thought of the scavenger hunt as a “difficult combat challenge” but that makes sense. As for the other point. there will always be elitists in this kind of game, I hope that didn’t harm the overall popularity of the dungeon.
I tried to do it at <15 levels. Some parts were definitely difficult combat challenges – just regular mobs in Gendarren Fields oneshotted me.
Is there any part of the update designed for L80’s, however? I understand the want to include everyone, but is there any ‘really tough stuff’ (aside from the JP) that rewards being high level players with good strategies, etc? Just curious if we can expect a challenge from this stuff, or if it’s mostly going to be for fun and not for challenge. (ie. Content that up-levels players to 80 like in Halloween)
Hardcore combat people just got a brand new dungeon in November.
I’ve been trying to transfer to Tarnished Coast for over a week, and it’s never less than full. I’ve tried all kinds of times, but I just can’t put my life on hold and sit at the computer for however long it takes for something to open up so I can get into a server where I can roleplay.
Can we please have some kind of transfer queue? EX: If a server is full I sign up on the transfer list, then when spot opens up the first person on the list gets offered the chance to transfer in or decline the transfer and be removed from the list. Maybe make it a paid option, since it involves development time and doubtless operations work.
I just think a non-RNG way is fairer. The current transfer method is pretty random, and given a 2+ million population the odds of transfering onto a full server are similar to the odds of getting a precursor from the mystic forge.
Guesting would also do a lot to address the problem.
They “released” the charge, voided the old SERIAL, and now when I attempt to repurchase the game its telling me invalid credit card. This is the same card. Same information. OMFG.
Yeah, NCSoft billing is a joke. If you keep an eye on the forums you’ll see that people are complaining all the time about it. From the many threads I’ve read, it looks like 2 problems"
1) NCSoft risk assessment software has bad heuristics so legitimate purchases get declined.
2) Money is sometimes not accepted from banks / credit card companies. Money gets sent, but NCSoft doesn’t accept it and the account gets closed a week – a few weeks later.
I’m not buying any GW2 things digitally anymore, not worth the risk. Gem cards and GameStop FTW.
Stop trying cards ASAP and send in a support ticket. Otherwise your account might be banned.
I have still not heard back from support or ANYONE regarding this. This is crazy. I’ve never had any kind of issues like this before. There’s no support or billing number to call to get this resolved. What the heck?
You heard back from Gaile, who asked your friend to file a support ticket. Has your friend made a support account (they are separate from game accounts for just this reason) and submitted a ticket?
I think having a PvP or super-hard mode for the hardcore JPers and a PvE mode for everyone else would be awesome. Have separate achievements, but the same loot rewards. That way hardcore players get the bragging rights, but casuals don’t get left out.
Yay account restoration!
That said, for a game I’m planning on playing for multiple years, a 1-strike policy on account rollbacks seems restrictive. I’m sure they’ll revisit that in a bit.
25 active & managing players is about right I think. People who want to take an active part in directing things are always more active than people who would rather just play. No harm in that, so long as they realize not speaking up = not having a say.
PS: Henge of Denravi players need to let me know if they want guild influence spent on gathering buffs, karma buffs or a guild bank. By PM or on the Legion forums in http://operationunion.enjin.com/forum/m/9879915/viewthread/5178533-henge-denravi-na please. I’ll try to find your vote if you just post it here, but this thread moves fast so no promises.
You can wear town clothes anywhere, but they disappear when you take damage. Silly way for ANet to set it up. :/
Not harder, please. Some people don’t have the hardware, wrists, or time but don’t want to miss out.
I am totally willing to drop real money to get permanent candy cane weapon and/or armor skins. I am definitely not willing to do the same for BLC keys that have a low chance to drop.
Maybe all Wintersday chests that are guaranteed to drop saleable skins every time, along with something else random. But still, I’d rather just buy the ones I want.
Dont buy the cards! You lose gems rather than just buying straight from anet!
Why do you think that?
Card is $15 for 1200 gems, that’s 1.25 cents/gem or $.0125/gem same as buying from the gem store. You have to pay sales tax, but given the trouble the NCSoft payment processor has been having lately I think that’s a worthwhile investment.
In the section where you claimed this event does not makes sense, you explained in a clear and simple way why this event makes sense (or better, why the old one doesn’t anymore).
I guess I meant, how did this holiday which was tradition for hundreds of years, become interpreted into asuras giving out toys?
Because a random Asura genius decided to revolutionize what this holiday meant for Tyria? :P
Let’s wait first to see the backstory and personality behind him. Am I the only one who truly thinks that the Asura looks plain evil in the artwork?
No. No, you are not.
Ooh – evil thought. What if the toys will all turn to weapons throughout the cities after Wintersday, and the cities get turned into temporary dungeons? That is probably not going to happen. It will probably all be in the instanced ship. But it would be awesome.
This is an international outreach program by Asuras to impress other races with their skill and generosity without actually handing out anything valuable (i.e., weapons), who are taking advantage of Human culture.. I think it fits in perfectly with GW2 lore.
The Halloween event didn’t look like much either on paper, but once we were playing it was fun and lore-relevant. Please wait until something’s actually started before whining about it OK?
But in lore Asura are not nice! They aren’t! They are power hungry, devious little geniuses with the desire to control all of Tyria! The Halloween event showed the mad king and his tower, that was enough to please me, but having Santa Asura does not please me. AGHH
Of course they’re not nice. That’s why they need to build up some goodwill! And what better way to lord their innate superiority over their neighbors than to provide lovely, magical toys? All part of world domination.
I hope there’s some kind of in-game conflict between the Toymaker and the religious Humans. That would be awesome, but also probably too sensitive for ANet to want to take on this year. Any RPers up for the challenge?
Plus, who else can you see giving away mounds of stuff? Norn and Humans don’t care about other races, Sylvari don’t care about material things, Charr wouldn’t bother spending resources on non-violence.
I’m glad they’re doing something non-stereotypical for Wintersday. I’d rather have interesting and slightly different holiday events than just the usual.
JPs are a different mindset than normal PvE play, and doing them with huge groups can be a challenge. If I have trouble with a JP, I like to check out Dulfy’s guide (she usually has them up ASAP), or the wiki to find clues.
It’s all instanced, and everything runs for a full day.
I think they’re doing a really good job with this so far. Lots of advance communication, events run for a full day, and there’s the chance to catch up if you miss something. Looking forward to the JP.

Wee, looking forward to the website. Or at least forums.
Question – since influence and playing together are server-dependant at the moment, should we have a server forum section? Not a separate forum for each server, but one subforum where people can post server-specific stuff, separate from guild-wide things.
@everyone Sighhh I got tired of running around in Orr lol. Time to try some dungeons. I will jump on Saturday morning (AUS time). Hit me up and will join guild for some dungeon crawling.
I am an offensive Elementalist btw so I can AoE alot of those mobs if you can get them clustered. Should be fun and interesting!
I’ve finally worked out how to turn my D/D elementalist into a melee AOE threat. Still figuring things out, but it’s awesome to scoot into a ton of mobs, blast them all and flip out. Hurray Fire/Air!

For account-based storage that doesn’t go away with a character, buy bank slots instead.
Do the daily event, and save the karma jugs. Save karma vials from fractals, etc. When you get a karma booster, drink them all at once.
Also, guild banners give karma boost.
Those are the best ways I know of. The daily is worth 4500+ karma alone, plus what you get from the booster.
HoD is active and helpful. I play in EST peak time, and I usually see people around. I frequently get answers or help when I need it, and drop by to lend a hand when people sing out in chat.
We’re definitely not a WvW server (low pop, few WvW guilds), but PvE usually seems populated.
Ambient dialog is great. Sometimes timing is a little off, but it actually impacts how I view Tyria and makes me more engaged in the game.
Storyline – Honestly, if the lines were better I wouldn’t mind the VA. Particularly if the PC didn’t have the lines of a super-cheerful dumb cluck.
But right now most characters aren’t differentiated enough in their dialogue, they’re all stuck in the same flowery, bog-standard fantasy stereotypes and most of them are the same stereotype. So the voice-acting becomes more important, and most of it’s mediocre, which is fine, but when there’s a few really brilliant ones and then everyone else is blah it points out just how blah some voices can get.
I think the real problem with Trahearne is more related to his role in the story (especially for Sylvari) and how much time we spend with him. Less time, better decisions = not so irritating. Magister Sieran from the Priory is also an annoying stereotype, but people miss her because she dies before we get tired of her.
Trahearne’s voice is kind of grating and monotonous, which doesn’t help. I think making it clearer that Trahearne has the bureaucrat /diplomat role would help since then it would look less like he was stealing the PC’s thunder. Or maybe give players a chance to choose diplomat vs combatant to get PCs more invested in their role.

I can sympathize. English speakers have to deal with this IRL all the time – I work with people from non-English speaking countries and sometimes the only thing to do is facepalm. Great people, but they are not always speaking English. In a game when you just want to relax it’s probably really annoying.
I think an argument can be made for all the names making sense, but that’s kind of irrelevant when they break people’s immersion. Apple Castle is an Easter Egg with the Order of Whispers storyline, but the Sylvari names sound like simple translation / pronunciation problems.
Submit a support ticket. Those are separate accounts from the forum/game account.
I’ve got the same thing. No way to turn on email authentication in the Security settings page.
