Double Tixx GIFT? Bug or not ?

in Wintersday

Posted by: Gilosean.3805

Gilosean.3805

It’s ok to open it if you got a second one, consider it an extra Wintersday gift. We wanted to be sure everyone got one, even if it meant some people got two (better than some people getting zero)

And thank you for the extra cheer! I didn’t even know there were PvP finishers when I picked up my PvE Wintersday gift, so now I’m happy to have them through the mail gift.

Miniature Wintersday Trio being added?

in Wintersday

Posted by: Gilosean.3805

Gilosean.3805

I think the best option for them at this point is simply for them to make the minis unbound. Then we can buy them in game, and the people who spent a lot of money and got duplicates can get back some gold at least.

It’s not a good solution, just the one that I think will tick off the fewest people at this point. Going forward, definitely need to have a reliable way to get minis. If they’re so stuck on gamble boxes, put tickets in every gamble box as well as having a drop chance not lower than the Wintersday drop chance so that people who open a certain number can at least get a mini even if RNG luck is bad.

[Unofficial Anti-Account Bound Mini Pets Vote

in Wintersday

Posted by: Gilosean.3805

Gilosean.3805

Definitely +1. I think this is honestly the best way to deal with this.

The only reason I was buying minis was so I could collect them and have pets for all occasions. Now that ANet has started making them non-sellable and put them in RL$ gambleboxes, I’m just not interested. If there’s no chance I can fill out my mini collection, why should I bother getting them? Minis don’t actually do anything and they’re inconvenient to use since they’re slow, disappear when you change area, etc.

Disagree.

Your complaint has nothing to do with account bound because you can craft them and you can buy them for gems.

Your complaint is that you think they are too expensive to buy with gold converted to gems.

OK, for the 2000th time – there are 2 sets of Wintersday minis.

The Tixx set is craftable and can be bought outright with gems.

The other set is only available through RNG boxes. These are account bound, so you can’t even sell duplicates to buy the ones you want, if your RNG luck is bad you’re just stuck with duplicates or missing some.

L2Read before posting.

+1

I’d like to sell 2/3 minis I have from forging
I’d also have to agree that all minis, except for rylock, should be account bound

The OP is actually saying that minis shouldn’t be bound. I think that’s what you’re trying to say too, but your post is missing the ‘not’ in front of ‘account bound’.

The RP servers are Tarnished Coast (NA) and Piken Square (EU). PIken Square was Medium pop last I looked, and TC was Full but will probably fluctuate a bit and you may be able to grab an open spot.

For easy access WvW + PvE, I know Henge of Denravi was organizing their WvW more and doing better when I left, plus I could usually find someone around during your time frame. It’s a lower pop server so it’s WvW presence wasn’t always great but when we pulled together we did pretty well. Never saw any RP though.

Gems for Gold—How do you feel about it?

Gilosean.3805

Man, people will see conspiracies everywhere.

Gems on the currency exchange are in limited supply. Only the gems sold for gold are available for to buy for gold.

Huge Christmas event + Makeover Kits = High Demand for Gems
Power trading + People(Time > Money) = Lots of Gold going for gems
People (Money < Time) = Some Gems being sold for gold.

Last population is the smallest. Therefore it takes more gold to get gems.

This is economics 101.

Ele or Warr - Fractals question

in Players Helping Players

Gilosean.3805

Bunker specc’d eles can be nice tanks. Don’t know about fractals specifically, but especially with water traits they regen health whenever attuned to water. They don’t do well standing in one spot, but they can keep the enemy in roughly the same location.

Also, ele is usually considered a very mobile and swift class. Air traits, signet of air for swiftness. All of the weapon skill sets include skills that move you through combat, dagger/dagger is the most mobile but dagger/focus works and has much better defense.

If you mean Morgan’s Spiral, it’s a jumping puzzle. It also leads to the nastiest JP I’ve tackled yet (Dark Reverie). At the end of every JP you get a chest with some nice gear. Lately I’ve found that chests from JPs are the best way to reliably get good gear.

FYI, Caldon Forest also has the Spekk’s Lab and Spelunker JPs. Both of those are pretty fun, but expect to die a bunch in Spekk’s Lab. There’s also a fight at the end. Good luck!

First off, for the past few weeks everyone’s been in LA for fractals and Wintersday instances. Once Wintersday ends people will be in the world more.

Some tips for more player interaction:

1) Try talking in map chat. Especially shout out rich nodes you find, champions that are up, if you’re going for a skill point, etc. Usually you get someone.

2) Server problems. Your time may be off from the server prime time. There’s not much to do about this except switching when you play. Or, your server may be a heavy WvW or PvP server, and you need to find a PvE guild. Or, your server may be low population and there’s nothing that can be done except transfer or get involved in whatever the server leadership are doing to draw people in. I know Henge of Denravi has a Map of the Day where guilds encourage people to go, so maybe your server is doing something like that.

3) Find a guild, or a couple guilds. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OPERATION-UNION-Bringing-Players-Together/first is a social cross-server guild – we do dungeons and a lot of map chat, and are always happy to help people out. I joined that and a server-specific guild because I was on a server without a lot of Unionites. Having an active guild to rep at all times made the game feel a lot less lonely.

4) Offer to party with people near you. Don’t spam party invites all over, but ask if someone wants to party up for a champ or DE.

5) Network on your server. Make friends and keep them in your contacts list. Having a few people you can all up and ask for help with a champ or whatever can make a big difference. Starting areas are good for this – play a few events with people, party with them, if they’re cool add them to your friends list and chat with them when they’re online. One person I know who does this can get people to drop what they’re doing and travel across Tyria just to help with champs.

EDIT: More tips, didn’t read post fully

6) Log in, hit B, go to WvW. It’s a large-scale PvP zone, there’s always a battle going on somewhere.

7) LFG system is in the works, but no ETA. In the meantime, people mostly try Lion’s Arch map chat or guilds to group up. You can get to LA for free from anywhere through the PvP or WvW maps, check the wiki for detailed instructions.

Dungeon Finder / LFG - In the works?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gilosean.3805

Gilosean.3805

I imagine they are probably working on something similar to the original Guild Wars I game where if you said LFG, LFM and such you were automatically put on a list viewable to the whole town very much like gw2lfg.com

I am completely against the dungeon finder idea entirely, this is one of the only games I have played that felt like it had a sense of community. Especially with world verus world, you just know certain players. Ontop of that, people don’t vote kick each other for dumb reasons.

OK, 1) People do still kick each other for stupid reasons.

I’m not sure who you think spamming map chat in LA is more conducive to forming a community than having a LFG tool where you can sign up for what you want or see people who are partying up to get into a dungeon. I’d much rather spend time playing instead of spamming map chat or rearranging my time so I can party with guildmates.

Hacked, banned now under investigation?

Posted by: Gilosean.3805

Gilosean.3805

He should submit a support ticket, or find his old one if he’s already submitted a ticket about this.

The messages are pretty typical. Sounds like what happened is:
1) His account got hacked and the hacker used it to sell gold.
2) He got reported and banned.
3) ANet security team saw that he got hacked, and so the block reason changed.

He’ll probably get unbanned. He should request an account restoration if he wants one, but you only get 1 rollback / account.

Sadly the forum account and the game account are the same (I’ll never understand why ANet did this). So banned from games = banned from forums. Following up with support is the best way to go from here.

Share your data about perceived strange drop behavior here!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gilosean.3805

Gilosean.3805

There’s a 26 page thread full of data, including statistical analyses, on this topic already you know.

To summarize the main points of that thread:

1) For a subset of people, equipment drops got significantly worse after the Nov 15th patch. It’s hard to predict who those people will be.
2) Many people report champions dropping nothing. I’ve experienced this myself.
3) Magic Find is making the situation harder to pin down – for some people it seems to have no effect, for others it does.
4) Loot drops change dramatically after a short period of farming, which suggests people are being hit by diminishing returns, anti-bot/anti-farm code.
5) New patches seem to increase people’s loot temporarily to the old levels. I think this has happened to me, but haven’t tracked it since I’m playing a game, not doing QA.

I think the problem here may well be that your developers underestimated how long a real player is willing to farm something, so the DR code is triggering on real players. Then the player increases the farming to try and get decent loot, and the DR keeps hitting them until a patch launches.

I have to say, you should have enough data to track down a player’s loot yourself and do comparisons. Also, running data through simulations is not a great way to test for issues in Live.

Good luck figuring out what’s going on.

Is there a way to make leveling entertaining?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Gilosean.3805

Gilosean.3805

It sounds like you’re trying to level just from dynamic events and story missions?

You get XP from doing practically everything in this game. ANet didn’t design it to level people just from story missions / events, they wanted people exploring the world too.

Go to a level-appropriate area. Get points of interest, gather resources, finish off hearts, do the daily achievement, find vistas, do the jumping puzzles. You’ll level so fast your head will spin.

If you like PvP and want to level, WvW has resources and events that give XP, along with PvP that gives loot.

That said, not every game is for everyone. At least with GW2 there’s no subscription so you can drop in to see if you’re opnion’s changed whenever you want.

Starting out and making money

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Gilosean.3805

Gilosean.3805

I always geared myself up with random drops to save money. Been working fine so far.

Save a set of gear drops that are within 5 levels of you, especially blues and greens.
Wear a piece of armor until it’s broken, then salvage it for crafting materials.
Put on the dropped gear.
You can sell the mats or use them to level crafting. You level crafting slower this way, but so much cheaper than buying mats from the TP.

Also, jumping puzzles give decent gear rewards for your level. There are several in Caledon Forest that aren’t hard, and there are also several in Lion’s Arch. I try to run them at least every couple of days to make sure I have decent backup gear for when mine goes. I think I’ve repaired <10 times in the past 2 months.

How do i make lots of money?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Gilosean.3805

Gilosean.3805

1) Farm level 80 areas

2) Harvest crafting materials and sell them

3) Play the trading post – buying low, selling high, etc. Check out the Black Lion forums for more on that.

4) Jumping puzzles drop level appropriate gear and crafting materials. I use them to save buying / repairing gear. Means I can’t stick to a build while I’m leveling, but you level so quickly in this game it doesn’t matter as much. Level 80 is where you want to start seriously thinking about builds and best in slot gear. Before that most blue/green armor will do.

Think some re-organization needs to happen to match peoples servers and times.

I was playing on Henge of Denravi, and for the longest time it was just me and Aluna Darklady there, so I feel your pain. This is a cross-server guild, and we don’t have a lot of people on all servers. I joined another server guild and split my time between the Legion and that one. LoH guild chat was more active than the server guild though, so whenever I was soloing I rep’d LoH.

If you want, you can try to grow the guild on your server. Get some guild bonuses up and running, then use them to advertise the guild. Do events / JPs with other people and when you find a nice person talk with them about the Legion. Or you can do what I did, and switch to server with more Legionites on it.

If they weren’t account bound that would be one thing. Then people could trade them, so the poor schmuck who got 15 snowmen wouldn’t be up a creek without a paddle.

At this point the only viable thing for ANet to do is make the RNG pets tradeable. Adding a minipack / selling them individually from the gem store will simply tick off all the people who already bought boxes no end. I honestly don’t know why the pets weren’t tradeable, ANet had to know this was going to be an issue.

Zone pops depend on times and server. So everyone sees it slightly differently.

Exploring is good for leveling, also resource gathering, then you can use the materials to craft which is free XP.

Doing the daily also helps. You get extra XP for hitting goals in the daily achievement above and beyond the XP you get for doing the events, etc. Then you get XP, money and karma at the end.

Just the usual mouse turn, high camera sensitivity. Try to keep moving, but there are some points where you’ll want to stop and turn. Turning graphics down helped me .

Candy canes on the towers are easy to miss. Be careful there.

Gingerbread path is faster but I do better on snowman.

Oh, and you can practice on Spekk’s Lab in Caledon Forest if you want. It’s much the same thing, only with checkpoints so you don’t lose all progress.

I haven’t finished yet, but each time I try I get a little bit farther. Decided to take a break after I bounced my head off a snowflake 2 tries in a row. >.<

Bells:
Put fingers on 1-4, then 6-9. Don’t pick them up or move them.

Turn graphics down to help with any lag.

Where you have to hit the circles is a little different for each person, so watch closely on the easy songs. I have to hit just as they’re in the white before the actually stop, other people hit earlier or later depending on lag.

Good luck!

Raising as character with a simpler class might be good if you really don’t think you can do it yet, but I’d also suggest hanging around the Elementalist forum, it’s full of people who can give good advice. Also, remember that you can switch attunemetns to have more skills in battle. I didn’t start doing well until I unlocked all the skills for each element and could use them. Spend some time practicing skills in starting areas until you get a feel for them.

I’m happy to answer questions in game or play with you if you’re on Tarnished Coast. Operation:Union is filled with a bunch of people who are awesome and like to help. However, we’re a cross-server guild, so we may not have a big presence on your home server. In that case I’d find a helpful guild on your server too, since you can be in up to 4 guilds in this game.

The jumping in this engine is for getting over obstacles and up rocks, not for elaborate puzzles.

If they can make these additional things and get them in game why shouldn’t they? Loads of people enjoy them.
At the end of the day if you don’t like that part of the game then just play the parts that you do like and let the rest of us enjoy the bits we do.

Well, because they’re terrible. Straight up.

Feedback doesn’t mean all candy and roses. I don’t have to “like it or shut up” as per the impression i’m getting from several responses. Lots of people enjoy Fox News too, but that doesn’t make it good.

Anet, you have your feedback. Can the jumping.

You think they’re terrible. Lots of other people think they’re great. Some people think they’re the best part of the game. Your ‘feedback’ is just as bad as someone saying they should take out WvW, PvP tournaments or the PvE world.

I don’t know how to say this so it gets through. This is a game. If you don’t want to play it, don’t play it. If you don’t want to play parts of it, don’t play those parts.

You are saying that other people shouldn’t have something they enjoy because you don’t like it. That’s ludicrous.

Yeah some people are overreacting, although at this point it looks like the dungeon rewards don’t reset once Tixx gets to LA. The only thing I’m really irritated about is the festive minipets (different set than the Tixx ones). Those are RNG only, and you have to get lightening to strike 6 times to get all of them. And you can’t even sell extras that you don’t want.

The game isn’t free. We already paid $60. That’s 4 months worth of sub for a sub MMO right there, so by sub MMO logic Anet shouldn’t get any more until January. And most of the collectors have already paid multiple times in the gem store for minis, costumes, boosters, etc.

If they made the festive minipets unbound or confirmed they’d be back next year I’d be happier. Bound and RNG is too much.

I don’t like PvP, so ANet should stop having PvP achievements and making PvP updates. Oh wait, that would take a huge part of the game away from other people who like it. Good grief, I guess the world doesn’t revolve around me.

You don’t need to do the JP for any reason if you don’t want to. It’s not even required for the achievement. The thread is for constructive feedback about the JP. If you don’t have something constructive to say (EX: Why you didn’t like it and how ANet could improve) then please go away.

P.S. Racing was one of the activities they planned for originally, and will probably be in the game soon.

i did it.

So, if I’m reading this thread correctly, a handful of players are atrociously horrid at this game (really don’t understand how, it’s simple as can be to eek out a passable score), and are now crying for nerfs. They also seem to want to never see such an event again. There’s no need to rain on the entire community’s parade because of your ineptitude. It’s the Clocktower all over again. If you took hours to complete it (or failed to complete it thereafter), you’re just really bad at jumping puzzles. Sorry, but it’s the truth. At least this time ANet provided more achievements than are required for the title, so you can forego the ones you don’t like.

To be fair, the Clocktower was a lot more than a few people, and even people who completed it were irritated.

This does seem to just be a few people who aren’t optimizing their play before complaining.

Yeah, they’re way too hard, way too long, and they’re not worth doing. I usually just give up after the first few jumps. It’s garbage enough I gotta jump on crap to get vistas for map completion.

Cut the jumping stuff out, it’s frustrating and not fun at all. If I wanted Super Mario 64 gameplay, I would turn on my N64.

I, and a lot of other players, love jumping puzzles. If you don’t like them, don’t do them. It’s that simple.

I liked the JP, but like others have said, it is way too easy.

I know, I know, there’s a lot of people who think the difficulty is just right. But what do they consider too easy or too hard? In my opinion it should be hard enough to take you a majority of the event time period to finally learn it and finish it. Not spend 20min trying it and then you beat it.

Since this is part of a limited event, I think it should be pretty easy so people can participate and have fun.

For JPs in the persistent world? Go all out on the difficulty, sure. I won’t like some of the puzzles, but other people will. So long as there’s something for everyone that’s fine in the persistent world. But for special events that specifically draw casuals back to the game, I think the activities / JPs should be easy enough for most people to do.

I hated this puzzle. Just when I got close to halfway I forgot to take off my double tap and flipped over the snowflake.

Ouch, I hate it when that happens to me. It can happen on any puzzle though.

I like this puzzle better than the tower. The timed aspect is still really irritating (why not make more puzzles that are actually puzzles, where you have to figure out where to go? Why are ANet devs so focused on speed?). I’d like more JPs that test awareness and puzzle skills, not ones that test our ping.

Also, taking all of our traits is nasty and not something I enjoyed at all. I can’t really see a reason for it. The whole point of the game is to have different viable builds, and suddenly in some parts ANet reverses direction and takes away parts of our characters. Not very fun. :/

I dislike the reward system for mini-pets

Drops are tradeable. You can sell the ones you don’t want for gold that you can turn into what you do. These minis can’t be traded, can’t be salvaged for something else useful. They can only be used or destroyed. So people who get duplicates are out of luck. People who don’t get them from the gifts are out of luck. It’s very irritating and not something I was expecting at all.

That’s not even taking into account the sleight of hand they’re apparently pulling over the Tixx minis – first they say, the events give rewards to make toy minis and are all replayable in LA. Then we find out the replayed events might not give rewards that the original ones give, so it’s the Lost Shores finale all over again. Come on ANet, we know you can do better than this.
