New Dailies

Gilosean.3805

I like the variety of the dailies. And some days I don’t play, or some days I don’t get the daily done before reset. Whatever. This is a game, I don’t let it run my life.

I didn’t have to do the combo killer, which sounds frustratingly bugged. But other than that, I like the new dailies. The Dodger got me motivated to learn the tells of low-level mobs I had just been tanking. Healer was easy, I just went to where a bunch of NPCs die a lot (Metrica Province reactor – dead NPCs all over). Events and gathering are about the same as before. I’m looking forward to finding out what we’ll be doing tomorrow.

EDIT: Totally seconding Daemonne. The dailies and monthlies are to pull people into various parts of the game and make players aware. You know how some people have been whining the combat is too easy? The combo killer achievement was probably intended to help people understand the deeper combat mechanics. And you know how people whine the dungeons are too hard? Same achievement, probably also intended to teach new players / casual players about combos and how to get a lot more out of group combat. Same thing with dodging, got to help people learn mob tells and how to time dodges better. Same thing with crafting – you wouldn’t believe the people I’ve had to walk through the crafting interface. Now they’re motivated, but if they really don’t want to it’s not that big a deal because something they’re good at will come along tomorrow.

Don't change the way to obtain legendaries!

Gilosean.3805

Thank god more people are voicing this side of the argument. The weapons are LEGENDARY. what does that mean to you? I think legendary means it’s suppose to be REALLY HARD to get. People need to understand that. And for people saying they arent better and therefore should not be any harder to get. Do you realize you are playing guild wars? Not wow? This game is about skins, not stats.

Having lots of money/time/lucky drops does not equal hard to acquire, and that’s all Legendary items are currently.

How are you going to get one then? If it should NOT require money, NOT time or NOT lucky drops? Seems like you excluded the whole game

You must not have a very good imagination if you think the current system is fine. Honestly now, is your idea of legendary buying it off the market like it’s a loaf of bread? It sure as hell isn’t mine. Because that’s pretty much what it comes down to now.

Not really. A lot of people are still crafting their legendaries. Precursors now, that does come down to a ton of gambling or buying off TP, and needs to change.

Fortunately, it’s going to take me a long time to gather stuff for the basic Gifts, so hopefully we’ll see some more adjustments to precursors while I’m working on the other parts.

I really don’t think increasing the requirements is a good idea. From this side of the process, it looks like a mountain of work, and I don’t even know how long it will take to get the karma, let alone the other mats.

The Legendary Letdown

I wasted 100g in the forge trying to get The Legend. It’s a process I won’t soon forget and one that I’ve told all my friends about.

Legendary

I was not aware of the cost of all this until reading the forums. Guess I will stop all crafting as it obviously is a total waste of time and money. I have also lost hope in getting any armor that I liked.

Don’t give up hope. Just adjust expectations. Legendaries only come with a specific stat set and you can’t transmute, so you may be legitimately better off with an exotic weapon. If you were just going for an epic skin, there are nice skins on much cheaper exotic weapons. See http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items and http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_weapons.

I’m making it a long-term project to get my legendary. I don’t need it right away. And I’m playing this game to have fun.

I want Incinerator because of awesome skin and special effects, but for my other weapons I’m probably going to go for a cool and cheap(er) MF weapon or dungeon exotic.

Gilosean.3805

That’s also a silly idea. Because it would be hard to code and the bugs would be hilariously frustrating.

The obvious and correct solution to a high-priced item is to increase the supply. ANet could raise drop rates, could increase exotic drop rates so ppl can take more chances with the forge, could implement a quest of some kind, etc. There are many ways to do this, they just are moving very slowly so the market doesn’t swing even more out of control.

I seriously think part of the problem with legendaries right now is that they changed from skins-only to permanent BiS items, but didn’t change the drop rate to account for the increased interest. So now people planning on playing this game long-term are seriously thinking about getting a legendary, when before fewer people were interested, but the drop rate on precursors is still terrible.

Price is going to rise and keep on rising until it hits a point where a player ready to get a legendary simply won’t pay that any more. And that’s a pretty high price, because getting all the other gifts is a huge sunk cost and people are going to feel compelled to finish so they don’t waste all that money.

So it sounds like the problem isn’t actually leveling quickly, but that you find leveling lonely.

I dealt with that by joining a very chatty cross-server social guild, so even if someone wasn’t on my server I could still talk with people.

Last I checked, they’d upped the pop caps again. Try transferring to Tarnished Coast, that’s pretty PvE heavy, or there are a few other servers that have a lot of people in PvE. And with guesting coming in 3 days, you’ll be able to spend time on more populated servers even if you can’t transfer in.

The zone design for this game is really amazing in how is segments zones so it’s incredibly easy to miss other players. I’ve frequently seen someone say ‘map is dead!’ in map chat and then 10 people respond with ‘No, we’re just doing our own thing, what do you need?’ Or someone shouts out an event and 5 other players show up, but you never know about the other players unless you’re at the event.

My first character was an ele. For the first 40 levels, it was rough and I died about ever 20-30 minutes. After that, I finally got the hang of constant movement and died a lot less. Eles are a blast, and I love playing them, but you always have to stay on your toes.

Engineers are the other complex and versatile profession, but people seem to find them less fun / more bugs than eles. IDK, my engineer is lvl 2.

I also do like warrior – it’s a fairly straightforward class for when I don’t want to have to work very hard.

Guardian is a very survivable class that a lot of people like. I haven’t leveled it at all though.

Thieves can do super-high OP damage, and their stealth mechanisms and special moves are interesting. They’re in a middle ground between eles and warriors I think.

Was doing the EB JP the other day, and let a bunch of SoR go past me (they waved, I waved, OK we’re having fun jumping). When I got to the top, they waved at me again and sat, and I waved back, fine, hostilities postponed. Then, after I’d turned around to jump they ambushed me. It was kind of funny – were they so scared they had to ambush me from behind 5 vs 1? – but also super cheap and annoying.

If you guys are going to camp the JP and ambush people, fine. If you just want to do the JP, fine. But don’t be cheap cheesers and ambush people after waving at them and sitting OK?

Eles are mobile and versatile. It’s a case of doing everything moderately well and providing decent support to allies. I like it because it’s just much more fun than the other classes I tried, but it is also definitely harder than the other classes I’ve tried.

The problem with eles right now is that ANet hasn’t really balanced any classes besides warrior, so ele’s really only have a few builds that work well. Ele forums will have up-to-date info on effective builds.

I run D/D, D/F or Staff as the situation requires – D/D for general world, D/F sometimes in dungeons or WvW, Staff in dungeons or WvW.

Ele tips:
-Arcane traits are very helpful regardless of what attunement you’re in.
-Dodge makes you invulnerable for a second, this is very useful for large AOE attacks. You don’t need to get out of the AOE, you just need to be in the middle of dodge when the attack hits.
-Get familiar with different weapon sets and when to use them. D/D for situations when you need more quick damage or are on your own. D/F for when you need to reflect lots of projectiles. Staff for when you have a group to tank for you.
-Glyph of Elementals helped a lot when I was leveling, the elementals tanked for me. They’re dumb as a box of rocks, but they do a decent job of having your back when solo.
- Use moves that get you away from enemies (staff fire 4, d/d air 5, etc) a lot, that helps with survivability
-Don’t stand still unless you know it’s safe. The game has high mob density and stopping to chat can be dangerous.
-I died 3x a level until I hit level 50. Just be prepared to die a lot while leveling. It’s much better once you get to 80 and get some decent armor.
-If you’re having trouble with a new area, don’t be afraid to go back to an old one. You will still get XP and drops based on your level.
-Swap attunements as much as possible. This is really key to successful fights. Each attunement is good for a few things, so you need to use them when appropriate. -Conditions are your friend. Fire can burn people, water can chill them so they can’t move, air can stun or blind so their attacks miss.
-Also, once you get the traits for it, you can give frequent buffs to yourself or your entire party. This is awesome.
-Certain moves combine to do more damage than they would separately. Don’t worry too much about this now, but when you get comfortable with the regular moves try checking out ‘combos’. I was clueless about them until recently, and they are helpful.

General tip: Guilds help a lot. They are a big, big help. I didn’t find a guild until I was already nearly 80, and that was a mistake. You can check in the Guild forums for active guilds, or hang out in LA a bit and see if people are recruiting. It’s important to find a guild that’s a good fit for you. Also, you can join multiple guilds at once – I’m in 3 at the moment, each for a different purpose.

Typing /wiki searchterm into chat takes you straight to the wiki. It’s saved my hide more than once.

EDIT: That wound up being a lot longer than I thought.

TL;DR: If you have any specific questions, I’m happy to help, and most of the people I’ve played with are also happy to help new players. Or check the wiki – there’s a ton of info in this game, and the wiki is usually pretty reliable if you can’t find the answer in game.

You can level by doing anything in GW2. If you need a few more levels for a story quest, just run around doing things you find fun, you’ll gain the levels pretty quickly. Even just finding points of interest and different areas of the map.

You might want to try a different class. I love Elementalist because I have to stay aware and on top of everything while playing. You might like Warrior, they’re the most OP class and so you don’t need to pay as much attention to fighting as with other classes.

Running around with friends helps. Do you have a guild, or are you interested in finding one?

Guilds are a way to manage social contact – having friends online to group or talk with, ways to get questions answered right when you need them, having reliable people to do dungeons with (this is super important).

Examples: I’m in 3 guilds. One is a typical we-play-together guild, where we do jumping puzzles together, run dungeons together, etc. The other (I rep this the most) is a cross-server social guild. The purpose of that guild is to make sure that people always have somewhere and someone to talk to. We have a very lively guild chat so even when soloing I don’t feel alone, and also do a lot of dungeons and things together when people are on the same server. The 3rd guild is for reole-playing, where people get together and act out stories with their characters.

Guilds do give some mechanical benefits – boosts, guild bank. But they’re mostly a social thing to help you find a group of people you want to hang out in Tyria with.

Hi!

Fighting in GW2 is different from regular MMO fighting – it’s more like action RPG fighting. You need to time dodges, etc. It took me a bit to get used to it since I don’t play action games often, but once I did I died a lot less.

Other thing that tripped me up is gear – because of the way gear scaling works, having gear not near your level is really bad. Make sure your gear is within 5 levels of you at least. I was able to do this with random drops for the most part, but you should also be able to get some level-appropriate karma gear from hearts.

You get XP for everything in every area in GW2. Just leveling through the storyline will leave you a few levels short pretty quickly. I’d try running around your favorite zone and doing whatever until you are a few levels higher than the next story point. You get XP and loot based on your level and not the zone’s level. Wander around and explore.

Try finding a nice casual guild to answer questions. I know that Operation:Union is good for answers and advice at basically any time, and we do NA and EU both: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OPERATION-UNION-Bringing-Players-Together/page/30

Map pop depends on time of day, on what zone you’re in, etc. Also, the server pop in the login page is the number of accounts tied to the server, not the number of people currently logged in at that moment. That’s how ANet avoids login queues. So the server can be full or very high, but if few people are logged in than few people will be around. On the 28th you’ll be able to guest onto more populated servers, so you can do that if no one’s in the zone you’re in on your home server.

Tips that really helped people: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OMG-If-you-only-knew-this-tips-for-new-players

Other advice would depend on your class – I can talk about ele, but I’m still leveling other classes.

Best of luck!

I’d start out with Engineer, Elementalist, Necro or Guardian. All of those are more focused on strategy and kiting, etc, than straight damage.

You can make a character, then go straight to the PvP zone and it automatically gets upscaled to 80, so you can try out the max-level combos there. Each class plays differently at 80 than at 1, as you unlock skills and traits that has a big impact.

I think you mean, “How can it be subjective?”

Wealth is used as an objective measure of wealth because a person’s wealth is a concrete number. Same thing goes for most ways to measure a person’s progress. Horizontal progression / cool-looking stuff measurement is subjective, and avoids the whole measuring-contest problem that a lot of players have. But currencies, weapon stats, etc are all objective ways to measure.

LOL at people saying this is bots.

The game has 3 million accounts. If even 1% of those people hit the rich ori vein in Southsun a day, that’s a lot of ori. The rich vein was introduced at the same time as the Ascended items and a bunch of precursors, so the infusions / gifts soaked up a ton of T6 mats (including ori). Now we’ve hit the point where hardcore players have gotten all the infusions they can craft, but a lot of people are still hitting the ori vein. Price drop is the natural response.

I’m surprised that no one’s fussing about elder logs. Elder logs and green logs sell for the same price, about 10-13c. That’s a market that’s really out of whack.

Gilosean.3805

This whole ‘forums aren’t everyone so ignore forums’ is completely wrong. People in the official forums are the people who are most invested. They’re the front-line for spotting problems that don’t obviously appear in metrics.

I’ve never seen anyone say only pay attention to the forums, just the wacky ‘ignore the forums!’ posters. Forums are one part of a balanced feedback system. If a company doesn’t manage customer relations and ignores the system they set up for customer feedback, customers are going to be upset. That’s natural and logical.

Let’s take the ‘ignore the forums, they aren’t everyone’ logic to it’s logical conclusion – the people saying that aren’t everyone, so by their logic we should feel free to ignore and dismiss their arguments. Somehow, I think their logic is a bit biased.

TLDR: Forums are one important piece of feedback. No one has ever said it should be the only way to talk with ANet, only that they felt like ANet was ignoring some serious concerns.

Is AoE actually a problem? - Discussion Thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gilosean.3805

Gilosean.3805

AOE isn’t a problem. There are some problems with how people use it perhaps, but AOE itself is actually really, really necessary in PvE and almost all classes use it.

Is the problem that people are using AOE a lot? Well,
1) We don’t always get to see the number of targets (culling)
2) Combos require AOE a lot of the time
3) People leave and join combat often, so AOE makes sense to prevent that
4) There are way more AOE skills in the game than single-target skills
5) PvE is balanced around AOE skills, so people are more familiar with them
6) Some classes / builds essentially only have AOE skills
7) ZERGS. How do you expect a small group to take on a huge zerg? AOE should level the playing field and makes it less worthwhile to bunch up.

AOE is popular for all those reasons. Those are all good reasons, and not a reason to nerf AOE. They might be a reason to buff some single-target skills, not including the thief backstab, etc, that are already way OP.

Only saw 1 person complaining about PvE loot, but PvE loot is terrible anyway so it makes sense that anything that potentially makes that worse would be irritating. My warrior and thief with little AOE don’t see worse loot than my ele, but maybe for some people it’s different. Buffing PvE loot (already in the cards) and giving classes with single-target damage more AOE options are 2 ways to handle PvE farming needs. Or, how about taking 50% of the mobs out of PvE so we don’t get swarmed trying to go from point A to point B? I can get 3+ mobs on my tail just trying to walk down the road. If that was only 1 mob, single-target skills would be much more attractive.

Honestly, if you’re really really freaked out about AOE use in WvW, I think the best thing to do at this point is separate PvE and WvW skills. Because the AOE-heavy classes already do so much less damage than the single-target classes it’s not even funny.

You want to know why most eles run a bunker build? It’s because we can’t kill mobs fast enough to survive anyway, so we might as well go bunker. Eles and engineers are already having problems in dungeons, don’t make this situation worse by nerfing AOE.

Also, last point – why are you judging people’s playstyle? The only thing we’ve heard really is that you think people use AOE skills too much. That’s a playstyle judgement, and we haven’t heard any real concrete reason for changing it other than ‘the devs don’t think people should be playing this way’. That’s kind of worrisome honestly – I’m sure you have some reasons, but could you put them out there more so we can have a talk about how to fix those issues?

TLDR:
Give single-target classes more options, tweak WvW to make zerging less attractive, rebalance PvE so we don’t get huge mob trains on our tails. These are all things that will make your preferred playstyle more efficient. Could you put our more details about what worries you with AOE use so we can fix the underlying issues instead of nerfing?

nobody is saying you shouldnt use the multiguild system if you want to, but dont kitten because some guilds dont want to use it. not all guilds want to be a nonfactor disposable guild(sorry for the generalization, but imo its appropriate with the way the multiguild system works) .

1) Let’s make a trade. When hardcore SRS BSNS players stop demanding the multi-guild system be taken out, then people who multi-guild will stop complaining about how SRS BSNS players are trying to stop them from having fun.

2) Please stop generalizing about what people do with the multi-guilding system.

The current guild system lets guilds stand on their own merits. And now we find that just like IRL politics, the people who want to be in charge are usually the people who shouldn’t be. Most guilds can’t stand on their own legs, they need mechanics to push people into them. Just like most work teams don’t spend much time with each other outside of work. Not being work is a great feature of GW2.

Yeah, yeah, endgame grind does make me want to spork my eyes out occasionally. But if you just want to play you can just play and be decently prepared for whatever you come across.

Thief needs rebalancing due to their 1shot burst damage. Ele needs more builds, was happy when I read that they might consider allowing Ele using greatsword. Engineer needs more builds too. Guardian need more unique skills not some same skill with different animation.

Greatsword would be interesting, but I think first they should buff / tweak the staff and scepter builds. D/D is fine, D/F is also fine (people don’t use it as much, synergy not as good as D/D but still fine). S/F is sad, and staff is only useful in certain circumstances.

I don’t think ele needs whole overhaul. I think they just need to make peace with what the class is so we don’t get these ‘oh – nerfing AOE lololol’ bombshells dropped when 90% of the class skills are AOE.

Will the ‘select 4 of 6’ mechanic work for the monthly as well as the daily achievements? I don’t run dungeons and so have never gotten the monthly achievement – I’d like to be able to ‘play my own way’ and still get the monthly

Definitely something that we’re looking at, but we haven’t finalized all the details yet.

Yes, not a token! This is awesome news.

@Arenanet – Just to prove to you that D/D eles aren’t OP i will be sticking with my D/D build no matter the nerf, you need to realise that nerfing skills doesn’t change player skill.
We need to work 4x as hard to achieve anywhere near what other classes do, add player skill & Knowledge and you have an OP Player not class.
Being a d/d build it gives me a challenge, something that lacks in this game, and an adrenaline rush.
D/D is also good for soloing thing in PvE when 1/2 of your servers population upped and left due to a faulty tiering system that has no use in a video game.

So go ahead, nerf all the abilities and i can still solo/duo unorganised zergs.

Yeah, d/d bunker is basically the only viable PvE build. They need to buff and tweak the other builds, not nerf them even more. I love d/d for the movement, but I have a friend who’s been trying for scepter/focus and already has trouble getting into PUGs. If that was a more viable option ele would have a lot more build types and people wouldn’t pigeonhole eles.

Really glad with the upcoming changes, especially with lowering HP on some bosses in dungeons. I’m pretty exited about AoE nerf as well, like that change. For people who seem to take everything literally, they aren’t going to destroy AoE builds, they just want to bring them to place where it should have been from that start. Also they didn’t say AoE will be nerfed the same amount on every aoe skill. There are aoe skills that are fine, but there are some that are actually to strong. Really people if you don’t like the game anymore just leave… you’re not paying subscription, no need to get upset over a game.. There’s a ton of other mmos…
Honestly you can’t please all people..

Problem is that some classes basically only have AOE skills, so nerfing AOE would just destroy their ability to do damage. I run d/f or d/d ele, and there are only 2 skills that are single target. Staff and scepter is in the same boat.

If the concern is about zergs in WvW, then WvW should be tweaked to discourage zergs. They’re even already updating it, so just make some terrain tweaks, etc to make zergs less easy.

If the concern is about people using AOE skills for single targets – well, when a class is mostly AOE skills or when their single target skills are bad, they’ll use AOE because they don’t have an effective option. Buff single-target skills, and people will use them more.

The other side of this coin is aggro – it’s so unpredictable in this game, and frequently people pull more mobs than they intended. So of course they use AOE a lot more than single-target, a lot of the time they aren’t fighting single mobs. Making aggro easier to deal with or posting some clear aggro rules would help with that.

The ele trade-off is that they have the lowest HP, the lowest armor and can stay out of harm’s way either by moving like mad in combat and using pbAOE or through ranged attacks. AOE nerf sounds kind of like the devs saying they don’t like the entire rationale of the ele class, and everyone should just roll a warrior and do single-target melee damage.

I really appreciate the livestream, and the steps that ANet devs have taken to reach out to players. I hope the devs don’t take the wrong lesson from the backlash – the message hear is that when you have bad ideas, people will be upset and you’ll get clear feedback, not that we don’t need to have communication.

Asking for people’s feedback on proposed large-scale design changes, i.e. ‘What do you think about this?’ would have been a gentler way and might have gotten less ragey feedback. Class forums are there for exactly that kind of feedback.

Does the upcoming AOE Nerf include PBAoEs?

This. I play an elementalist, and basically the entire dagger/dagger and dagger/focus skills are all point-blank AOEs. There are 2 dagger skills that are single target. A bunch of the scepter skills are also point-blank AOE, which definitely don’t need a nerf, scepter is lame as-is.

The Union is always happy to help people who are new (it’s what we’re here for!) and we never yell at people in dungeons.

First runs are always painful and frustrating and people die like flies, that’s OK. I’m always intimidated to do a new dungeon, but I just have to remember that it’s fine to be new. Making sure the party knows you’re new is a good thing, most people are willing to help a new player, but some aren’t so good to get that out upfront. Avoid anyone saying ‘speed clear’, ‘quick’, all 3 paths, etc. Those people are going to want to be quick and have experienced party members.

I don’t mind them improving the process – I would prefer less grind and more interesting ways to get to the goal. I definitely don’t want them to make the process more ‘exclusive’, since they’ve said that legendaries are grind-proofing and will always be best in slot.

When it was just a skin, fine, make it as stupidly Nintendo hard as you want. When it actually makes a difference in the game that does not apply. Then it becomes something everyone could/should have.

If you’re upset because ‘too many people have legendaries’ (silly to tie your ego to that, but whatever), well, it was ANet’s misstep to give them unique functionality. Of course a ton more people are going to want them now.

my quick curiosity question, seeing these crowns and a couple of the things there, are we going to be seeing some ultra-expensive weapon and armor skins for the more hardcore completionists and achievement junkies? (I have some guildies who are big on map exploration and completionism, they’d have a ball with it)

I’m hoping that the “ultra expensive” items are at least precursors so that players have a sure way of (one day) obtaining them.

eh that’d be a bit exploitable, maybe a box with a randomized exotic in it? That way there’s a chance for a precursor, putting more in circulation, while also giving us a chance at some of the fun named exotics too (IE: Ambrosia is a hilarious focus I’m buying for St. Patrick’s day when it gets close <3)

More RNG, bleh. I think they’re waiting for the scavenger hunt to change up precursors.

I hadn’t heard of Ambrosia before, but now I’m really, really tempted to try and make it for my Norn necro.

I know the classes themselves play different. But…it’s not like when you level a healer and your whole role changes in a group dynamic or when you play an opposing faction and experience war from the other side. You’re still experiencing the same content in a similar way (kill the other dudes).

I’m also maining a D/D ele, which I suspect is part of the problem. The amount of combos and variations in their skills just make the other classes feel simpler, or at least, not as frantic. D/D ele almost feels like a fighting game.

I guess I’m in the minority then. Just curious.

No, I feel the same way. I started out with a D/D ele, and all the other classes are definitely easier and less frantic. I’m leveling my alts up very slowly, just whenever I feel like something different I switch to an alt and start leveling. I’m going to stick with D/D ele for a long time, because it’s just a blast to play. ANet really got that one right.

I guess, I view the other classes as tools that I’d like to have. Plus as a way to go through the early storyline in different ways, with different races. My heart’s always going to be with my ele but I can enjoy the other classes at a slower pace when I feel like it.

Legendary Wepons Account bound?

No, they’re soulbound on equip. And devs have stated that selling them is working as intended, so that’s not likely to change.

server Transfers no longer free? Whats next?

This was originally intended to be part of the game.

The transfers are only free because they couldn’t get guesting working. So now they’re confident they can get guesting started. It’s good news to those who are already on the server they way, and bad news to people who are trying to change servers, but it won’t be coming for a while so everyone’s got a chance to move.

Being stuck on a low pop server is what you make of it – I was on Henge of Denravi for a long time, and it was still a fun game. I had to work a little harder to find people to play with, but it wasn’t that bad. I knew people there better than I do on TC. I know the HoD leaders started organizing an Area of the Day for the server shortly before I left and were doing other things to get people playing together. Also, we almost never had lag. Playing on a low pop server has downsides and upsides.

The only infinitely repeatable achievement I can think of is Agent of Entropy that you get for salvaging stuff. Playing normally (ie. never going out of my way to salvage stuff), I’ve gotten 140 points out of 4224 total points. I salvage everything that vendors for less than 90c.

If all I lose is those 140 points, I’d be okay with it. However, I’m not sure that I’d qualify as someone who went crazy. It’s 2 points per 200 salvages. So, I’m at about 14,000 items salvaged.

Also, based on the screenshot and the value of dailies (9) and monthlies (35), it looks like you can get a nice amount of stuff each month with the 305 points you’d get for completing 30 dailies and the monthly.

Really looking forward to this.

Just want to quickly point out to get out ahead of it since those numbers are wildly off. You receive 1 crown per daily, and 10 per monthly. (We’re also still tweaking the costs of the items shown in the screen shot, and will continue to adjust them until until the system is released.)

Will we still get the mystic coins along with these new crowns? And will the current karma rewards be effected?

BTW I am loving the direction you are taking in rewarding open world exploration!.

You will still receive all the same rewards you currently get for your daily and monthly achievements, this will be an additional reward on top of it to make it more rewarding.

Yay! Thank you, this is good news.

Achievement Tokens

I’m hoping they add them into the currency tracking at the bottom of the inventory screen. There’s room there!

But I think the reasons they do tokens vs currency is that tokens are easier to make account bound. So the tokens are probably account bound, and that’s good.

If they wind up being soulbound and still inventory items, that’s irritating.

So these tokens for new rewards; I’m confused. In the blog post they went from events to daily achievements, which is it? Will these be awarded from doing daily achievements, events, or both?

“To make playing in our open world worthwhile, we’ll make it rewarding enough for players to spend their time there across all levels.”
That makes me think it’s from events.

“One of our focuses is expanding and leveraging our achievement system. The concept behind this is to allow players to earn new rewards for achievements,”
That makes me think it’s from daily achievements.

Maybe I’m missing something or just being kitten

“The concept behind this is to allow players to earn new rewards for achievements, as well as progressing down achievement paths that take advantage of the open world experience.”

So it sounds like more than daily achievements. That sounds like JP achievements, probably explore achievenments, etc.

5 tokens for obsidian shard? I can get into that. I’d rather go back and do things in other zones than have to do either fractals or event farm Orr to get shards. Looking forward to these features.

Hopefully we can also buy lodestones with tokens….I know wishful thinking.

Also, Chauncey von shuffle III – yes please.

Yes, shards without fractals, yes! Also very curious to see what Chauncey Von Shuffle III is, I suspect a mini.

Ooh, idea – what if the rewards are different for each zone? So we’d be looking at the Queensdale zone reward page there, so it’s got a Jenna-related reward. And Caledon Forest has a slightly different set (fern hound mini?), and Kessex Hills has something else (krait mini?). That would be really fun.

Since the tokens are tied to achievements they can’t really be tied to zones, so that’s very nice too. I mean, Queensdale is nice, but I don’t want to have to grind it for tokens. Or any zone, really.
