so we the upcoming changes to daredevil dagger/dagger seems outclassed by staff in damage and utility. with a lot of great damage mults in daredevil a thief with d/d taking daredevil would most likely lose trickery and as that its last resort to keeping up a good rotation. with the loss of the trait infusion of shadows with the spec patch and d/d mediocre-ness in pvp i think its reasonable to lower CnD initiative cost from 6 to 4. what are your thoughts? too much? the wrong solution? i think its a good start

imo only comparing reapers touch to mirror blade isnt really fair. lets look at the worst of the 3 bounce skills guardians focus #4 ray of judgement. imo mirror blade also needs an extra bounce while were at buffing bouncing skills. the obvious elephant in the room before buffing these kind of skills is weapon strength of 2 handed weapons vs. one handed and off handed which is stupid design and needs to go... but that has been discussed a lot

i agree with Gokil. you cant compare skills across professions that easily. i mean rtl and rush are way more similar than rtl and ancestral grace but they were balanced differently. there were a lot of people wanting a rush nerf like rtl but that doesnt work for the warrior class. the rtl change was stupid i agree on that but if rtl becomes a ground targeted evade on a 15 second cooldown why would rush not be one too? this would make a lot of skills way too similar. rtl needs change i agree on that, im no ele main so i have no right to argue how it needs to be changed but as Gokil said the kindergarden argument doesnt help here.

if youre talking about leveling you should always take blood magic first regardless just because it provides you quickening thirst, a 25% movement speed increase for holding a dagger (read: always) in the first tier and banshees wail, a reduction for warhorn which provides you perma swiftness in the second tier. i dont see any reason to not take blood magic as the first spec. vampiric presence is simply outclassed by perma swiftness from banshees wail for leveling purposes as youre running more than fighting.

imo we dont need a buff. engi needs a nerf to get back in line with the rest of the classes.

if youve seen the only condi damageable vale guardian you know that u need condi burst not sustain just so u know.

i think the class that needs the most love for raids is definetly the thief because they have absolutely NOTHING for raids. eles are atm not wanted because revenant+engi combination is just a 100% upgrade from ele but i think if engis back in line with the other classes people will take eles again. i have seen like 5 vale guardian kills and countless of trys and there was only 1 thief and he didnt really do a lot. necros are just fine imo.

we already have 2 wells that deal damage. i think its not good if we have another fire-and-forget skill to increase our damage output. also as some of the people wanted boon stripping or life leeching, we already have that on our current wells. dont make a simple upgrade

well im only using it for dungeon solos and it works wonders. with traited corruptions because of plague sending activating 2 corruptions instantly gets rid of the condis. and when thats on cooldown i can cc them for a bigger heal so i dont really care.

it is more of a condition skill in the first place and only because people want to play power everything shouldnt be made for them.

weakness is the only condition that makes sense...or do you want plague with weakness per second? that doesnt fit

i still want plague to be a well around you while u can still use skills aka like reaper of grenth (human elite) but realistically there is no reason to change or add ANY skill to a category in the game because it would mess up the specializations system again. we wont see any new heals or elites or whatever anytime soon as thats what elite specs are for.

The game changed over time and most content is open world. OFC i’m complaining, I don’t see any reason why warrior should get (almost) everything and some classes hardly get something.

sooooo….youre talking about silverwastes balance? because thats the only open world event where groups dont matter atm. everything else is and will be in a group. dungeons and fractals are 5 man, raids will be 10 man. also why dont u put that in the title?

Your theory only works if you can stay alive in zerker, Arena net in the past as in guild wars 1, has shown to be quite capable at creating tuff content. Considering The raids are designed to have more undodgeable (for now anyways) skills, good luck staying alive.

In any case, whatever that works for you. I would like to see how successful you are though. Seriously.

imo im running a more defensive setup then u and u challenge me to survive? valkyrie gear grants you only extra health that gets burned down quickly, no toughness. so against a big hit we will both take the same damage and i will be able to sustain because i have “chilling force” over “decimate defenses”. i dont know why people dont see the survivability in 5% life force each SECOND against the mere 4k health u get from valkyrie (+the bit u get for your shroud)

i will start with berserker because i wont take decimate defenses. chilling force seems like a really great survivability trait.

zerker is weaker overall. With Valk you can take all the necessary crit boosters which while staying in RS significantly longer for even more dps.

i dont know if u noticed but raids are supposed to be hard. i dont take my reaper because i want to do the most dps. necros dps will still be bad in comparison. i take necro for the survivability and 1% lifeforce x5 if u hit 5 targets (the icd is per target) every second is huge.

btw about staying in rs for longer to have more dps...even after the recent buffs dagger autoattack still does more than rs and gravedigger spam

first of all this is about pve just so you know.

so i have been playing and enjoying my thief again lately. im not the best with it but i can handle myself. the problem i get that with the “new” (havent played thief since a long time) specialization system is that “infusion of shadows” got deleted from the game. the shadow arts consistent damage alternative over the old trickery option if thereby no longer possible which was my prefered playstyle. so after playing thief again now im running into initiative problems very quickly with the usual rotation. this doesnt apply to the “meta build” as its made for kills that dont last long enough to encounter this problem but most pug runs do. any help from experienced thiefs?

Corrosive Poison Cloud destroys unreflectable/unblockable projectiles like the poison darts of little Tom in the Harpy Fractal or the Lightning Stuff of Mai Trin.

sometimes im really asking myself how weird guild wars 2s coding really is when skills that do exactly the same thing often need to be fixed one at a time. if u add something that already existed on multiple skills to something why is it bugged? and why do skills that do exactly the same thing not get bug fixed together eg. magnet pull, scorpion wire and spectral grasp?

Leveling a Necro in the open world ?

sorry that i dont really know how fast u can master the trait lines nowadays. gw2 had a really different leveling system before so i dont know if going for a grandmaster like "dhuumfire" is really worth for leveling. normally i pick utility traits for leveling. damage is not the most important thing you can get from traits during leveling. as you probably have already guessed my no.1 priority for leveling is swiftness as it increases open world pve by a lot.

if u wanna go with scepter because u want the range go for it. its good to try everything atleast once so you know why something is the best when your level 80 in certain situations like eg. dungeon fractals or soon raids. i would even advice to try axe today before it gets buffed to see for yourself how bad it is. its quite ok for open world pve but if u compare it with scepter or dagger its quite lacking.

going into soul reaping is still a good idea as it makes you tankier with things like "last gasp" or "vital persistence". also even without dagger blood magic is still very good for leveling with the added survivability from "blood bond" "vampirirc" and then "vampiric presence" or the swiftness from "banshees wail". this trait setup is aimed for giving you the survivability you wanted to survive while youre learning the class to make your leveling phase more pleasant, not as fast as possible.

try it a bit and when youve played a bit tell me your results, im interested how it went. as always if u need help and im online just ask.

Leveling a Necro in the open world ?

hey leasm,
for open world i would always take a warhorn offhand for the swiftness. im using dagger as my main hand which together with early investment into blood magic grants you 25% movement without signet of the locust due to "quickening thirst" and after that increased locust swarm aka swiftness duration with "banshees wail".

for utilitys i prefer wells and spectral walk. wells give u a really nice burst damage and they are also great for tagging stuff. spectral walk can do some cool things with the teleport and also grants swiftness and life force.

well of suffering does a good amount of damage.
well of corruption does damage and grants life force.
well of power removes condis from you.
well of darkness is a great pulsing aoe blind.

choose which you think you need for the encounter. against large groups blinds are always good. against condi (for example burning in all the fire areas) you need condi clears.

as a heal consume condition is always good to clear the last condi of of you after the fight and get your running speed back (after the self applied vuln goes away)

but its also ok to stay with your scepter and go condi if u want but i would advice you to always have a warhorn as speed and the stun (mobs in pve dont move when they get dazed so its practically a stun) are very good in open world pve. some people also recommend a staff for tagging and the fear and condi removal but i personally dont like it for open world.

gear is not really important during leveling. take what you get from your personal story (of u do it) and dont invest money into it.

disclaimer for hater: dagger/warhorn with wells being the meta zerker dungeon build is purely coincedence. this is just my favorite and recommended way of leveling.

Most Reapers specially MM ones will use Staff\GS , losing dagger will decrease LF regen a lot

exactly. you dont upgrade from dagger to greatsword, you trade it. so you shouldnt get the insane life force regen dagger gives you when u dont have a dagger.

adding counterplay to counterplay? i dont know if thats a good idea. its interesting and ill definitely not say its op instantly like people where thinking about torment ("a condition that damages me even more when i move? SO OP"). but what i can definitely say is that its not the best time to introduce a new condition... but hey they introduced taunt and alacrity too so maybe im wrong.

atm burning and confusion are too strong while bleeds and poison arent that good. that together with the fact that necromancer specifically suck at condition application (but are good at condition manipulation) makes necro a bit weak to massive condi clear spam. this doesnt apply to all classes tho (of course this doesnt apply to wvw zerging) thats why i think that punishing the removal of conditions would not be a very good change atm. but its definitely an interesting idea

so with every necro ever saying vital persistence needs to become baseline here are my thoughts about the topic.

we have a trait that is overcentralizing. everybody picks it because its way too good and it has no alternative. its a straight upgrade without any consideration or active gameplay and works completely against build diversity.

when i hear that about a trait the last i thing i want is that it becomes baseline!
are you crazy guys? that trait is a prime candidate for getting nerfed. why would you make it baseline? that means that first of all everybody always has it increasing the overall power of every necro without doing a thing or making any decision and also you get another trait for free or even another whole trait line.

only because its good doesnt mean its healthy for the game. people even want dhuumfire to be baseline… do you even want a choice at all? the new trait system is severely limitting our choices already. do you even want to choose anything?

so if u wanna leave a comment go for it. maybe we should think why we want to be in death shroud for longer. are death shroud skill too good? are weapon skills too bad? do we need to have more active defense? comment on it, why im wrong, why i have no clue about this game or why necromancer needs to be invincible. have a nice day

i wont get my hopes up so much. "redesign" and "rework" seems way too much work and rightly so. axe and scepter need buffs not reworks. they shouldnt completely change everything. i mean both weapons have 3 skills and also traits associated with them so they need to consider that too. maybe im just argueing about the definition of a rework but i think we shouldnt expect and wont get a complete rework.

condi duration? engi is one of the few classes who gets condi duration for free and its not only a pretty big amount (33%) but also even for 2 conditions instead of the normal 1 (serrated steel and incendiary powder). i dont really think its needed.

i know i havent even played my engi after seeing the trait changes. just wanted to point that out. people are like: "engineers had their days of glory and absolute domination. they dont need to be fixed" which of course is absolutely stupid. btw the same argument is also raised in a lot of ele nerf topics like: "eles were really good in every game mode for a long time so you can nerf them to death" which of course is also not the right idea

reading Basaltfaces comment lets me almost feel bad for you engis. im not an engi main. i just run through all the forums sometimes and other classes have the complete opposite opinion about you. like:

engis: "we dont want hobosacks"
anet: "ok" (which as u said needed 3 years)

engis "we dont like new mortar animation"
anet "ok" (but the new one is even worse)

engis "turret engi is free wins for months and they do nothing"
anet "yeah" (and then they completely destroy it)

engi "without speedy kits we dont have 100% swiftness without doing kitten"
anet "sry we will instantly double the swiftness on streamlined kits"

for other professions it seemed like for a long time if an engi wants it he gets it. but this is clearly not the case. atm they are working on the elite specs anyways so its not the time but keep on discussing. ok ignore me and continue

i will try reapers shroud maybe add it to my standard build but i will not even try greatsword. the hype train hasnt amazed me and making spamming gravedigger so rewarding is imo really disappointing but hey if somebody else gets happy from spamming one button more power to them but well thats all i do with my dagger anyways so why am i complaining ;D
