I have no stats to back up this conclusion, but I think the people who dig the big, colorful and mentally challenged new direction, are also the ones who would tend to spend the most on gems (in general). Hence, why there’s so many more hideous examples of circus-chic, floating around Tyria — and I’m certain there is more to follow.
Really? you had to go that far?
Complaints of it being childish and gay weren’t enough…
Northern Shiverpeaks
The main reason for the server population caps is not because of a technical limitation, it’s to force the population to be as distributed as possible across all servers.
ie: they don’t 80% of the player base on one server, leaving the other 23 empty.
This is why moving to high population servers costs more, the pricing is to discourage density and to encourage distribution.
Northern Shiverpeaks
The paid transfers were an answer to people complaining for a VERY long time about bandwagons transfers screwing up the ratings and preventing close fights at all tiers. They are reseting the WvW rankings next week to further prove that paid transfers were about WvW.
You have that backwards, paid transfers were meant to be in the game from the start, but delays in implementing Guesting lead them to keep the transfers free.. which did lead to the problems you mentioned.
So paid transfers are not an answer created/designed to solve a problem, the delay in activating them was the cause of the problems in the first place.
Northern Shiverpeaks
For it to be fair, guilds should be able to “guest” (play mercenaries) on other servers WvW zones that have low WvW queue times and populations.
This is a HORRIBLE idea and is very far from fair. We’ve already had problems with guilds dropping into lower tiers for a week or two, solely for the purpose of inflating the ranking of potential opponents, ensuring they face weaker servers in the following weeks.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Actual WvW population varies a lot and is hard to quantify vs the total population.
IE: when you go to migrate, they know with certainty how many players have a given home server, they do not know how many of those will feel like playing WvW that day, or 2 days after, or next week… nor for how long they’ll play.
Using Ranking might work though.

always makes me laugh how people are apparently too manly and/or serious to be able to bear the presence of this bow.
Yup, the same thing happened at release with ppl complaining about mesmer and purple butterflies effects… it just didn’t suit their manly man aesthetics.
I also have a sneaking suspicion ppl complaining about it being “childish”..are probably 15-25 and desperate to prove how adult they are.
Northern Shiverpeaks
There’s also been some speculation that even tho each person’s loot is individual to the player, that your system unfairly grants the best loot to whomever hits the final hit, and everyone else gets junk.
Whenever ppl don’t get the drops they want, they go into conspiracy/speculation mode and make up the weirdest schemes to explain away their perceived “bad drops”.

Now a request: If GW2 is going to become more and more a “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” bullkitten in the future, please tell me in advance so I can start looking for a more “for real” MMORPG already.
If the first thing your mind jumps to upon seeing a unicorn is MLP, that’s on you.
GW has always had some silly elements, if you absolutely have to take yourself so seriously, then ya, you’re better off looking for a more “for real” manly-man game of seriousness+4.
Northern Shiverpeaks
It’s to avoid getting a weapon your class can’t equip.

My human female mesmer wields the ebonhawk greatsword and it looks great.
Northern Shiverpeaks
loved the week we had vs Kaineng.
You are in the infinitesimal minority on that one.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Not sure you would have more fun in the tier below us.I don’t think HoD and GoM have the population to have a competitive match up with you.
That’s entirely possible, but since we already know this matchup isnt competitive, I’d prefer trying out a matchup that might be.
Northern Shiverpeaks
5G = traits
Now I am serious and realistic.
The 3 training manuals cost a total of 3.1G, you really need to stop making up numbers if you want us to consider your points as realistic.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Punched in the gut is an idom. Look it up.
And using that idiom in this context is needless hyperbole.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Why can’t you leave TC to the RPers? It already has an ‘unofficial’ purpose and has been swarmed by WvW bandwagons, pick something else.
Northern Shiverpeaks
would hate to lose this awesome matchup between AR, BP, and NSP.
The matchup doesn’t feel all that awesome from our side of the table.
Northern Shiverpeaks
More relevantly to the OP, though, do you think that the timescales for BiS gear acquisition remain reasonable despite introducing a disparity for players with multiple max-level characters?
As someone with 8 characters, I’m perfectly fine with the timescale.
But then I also played gw1 for 6 years… I’m here for the long haul so I’m ok with top end stuff taking months to attain.
All these ppl that absolutely, positively NEED that ascended amulet tomorrow.. what’s their rush? Won’t they just turn into the ppl complaining about lack of content in 2-3 months? This is the same as all the players at release that rushed to 80 in a week and then moaned about lack of endgame.
I’m pretty happy that Anet favors long term players.
Northern Shiverpeaks
In other words, you think it’s a perfectly valid statement that because players can use exclusively green-quality gear, they should?
A closer equivalence would be that since players can use non-BiS gear and still participate in any content they want, taking a long time to acquire BiS gear is perfectly reasonable.
Northern Shiverpeaks
It is holding my group back, and it means I would not be playing to my full potential. Ascended gear is the end game – like it or not.
This is reasoning I would consider invalid.. so to each his own, right?
Northern Shiverpeaks
You argument: If someone hurts you in a relationship, just walk away from that person. Don’t ever, under any circumstances, address your grievances. About the gist?
A videogame isn’t a relationship, so no, that’s not my argument.
But since you brought it up, ultimatums are a really bad idea in relationships too.
Northern Shiverpeaks
(edited by GrandmaFunk.3052)
Issuing ultimatums to a game is extremely silly to begin with.
If you don’t enjoy the game, stop playing it, you don’t need to make these grand statements.
Northern Shiverpeaks
All this obsession with immediate BiS gear for every alts make me sad. Why is everyone in such a rush? you can still do 99% of content without said BiS gear.
Northern Shiverpeaks
TCMM from AR went to NSP end of last week. I have a feeling some of them got the ban stick though.
Saw 1 NSP TCMM hanging out with 3 AR TCMM last night in our Borderlands, seems like whoever transferred just came to spy.
At this point I’m hoping the reset drops us down to tier7, we really do not have the numbers to compete with AR.
Northern Shiverpeaks
This change would isolate pugs and make WvW even more unwelcoming to new players.
Northern Shiverpeaks
What makes you think people ARE buying so much stuff?
So far everyone in the game has 0-2 laurels, depending on if they got their dailies done yesterday and today. The most you can get is one per day and then an extra 10 per month for doing the monthly achievement, starting in February,
Northern Shiverpeaks
This would be a great addition, hopefully they’ll add it soon.
Northern Shiverpeaks
The high cost is to discourage players from transferring to servers which are already overpopulated.
Northern Shiverpeaks
or 25 days assuming you also do your monthly.
seems like a decent rate of acquisition to me.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Am I the only one that understood this to mean that these “chests” would be the same kind of chests we receive our daily/monthly/story rewards from?
ie: not something you have to pick up from the ground but that’s attached to your UI.
Northern Shiverpeaks
The number and level of characters that your account has has no bearing on the cost of server transfers.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Randomly running around? There’s like no content for guesting in GW2, besides the dragons\temples hopping.
“randomly running around”, ie: open world pve, is something a lot of ppl do.
it actually makes up the vast majority of content in the game.
Northern Shiverpeaks
I plan to use guesting to hang out on Tarnished Coast. I enjoy RP, but in moderation
That’s an excellent idea, I’ve been really curious about checking out what the game is like on TC and it never even occurred to me before that guesting would be the way to do it =)
Northern Shiverpeaks
I am wondering what is the point of leveling when they keep bringing my lvl down to the right one for a certain quest.
Unlocking more skill slots, more skills and more traits.
basically, it allows you to create your build.
Northern Shiverpeaks
“Last Represented” might be a better option then.
Northern Shiverpeaks
I’ve seen the devs discuss the loot tables in a bit more detail in topics surrounding Magic Find, so if you want more info you can look those up.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Rebuttal to those dissing point 2: The problem is that the devs stated that WvW is considered a “PvE” zone, and they put jumping puzzles in there with that thought in mind and didn’t consider the fact that players would naturally abuse the PvP nature of WvW to keep people from completing the puzzles.
That statement doesn’t make a lot of sense given that the devs purposefully placed triggered traps in the EB puzzle as a tool for players to hinder opponents from completing the puzzle.
Northern Shiverpeaks
If you find a way into the enemy citadel, it’s an exploit, so please report it so they can patch it.
Northern Shiverpeaks
As my first post stated, the term “spying” has that specific connotation. I guess you don’t share that usage/meaning and that’s fine, I’ll drop the subject since we’re obviously not talking about the same thing and further discussion is pointless.
Northern Shiverpeaks
in my ‘phrase book’, any location that has a limit on the number of players is an instance
Then your “phrase book” isn’t very good, a limit on players has nothing to do with any definition of the term ‘instance’. Instance simply means a distinct copy.
The WvW zones have a player limit simply because not having one would lead to horrible problems for game balance and engine performance.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Look, I was just trying to clarify what you got wrong in your initial post, since the part of the OP you quoted clearly indicates the type of situation I’ve tried to explain…but you were going off on some weird tangent about not being forced into partying with invaders, which has nothing to do with spying.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Who is this we?
Me, Scootabuser and anyone else mentioning the “spying” aspect of the overall topic.
Northern Shiverpeaks
You can spy without transferring. But as I said, no one is making you accept the invite that clearly says “invader”, so it’s less efficient and more contrived.
You’re not getting it. We’re not talking about somehow being tricked into giving your position away through this.
player from server B transfers to server A, joins party with friends from server B, follows server A’s zerg/commander, giving away their exact map position away to friends from server B.
This is something that already happens, separate from being able to party with players from other servers. Partying with them just makes sharing information easier.
Northern Shiverpeaks
1) p2p mail trading is the equivalent of using the black market, if you get scammed, it’s your own fault for going outside the framework set-up to protect you and the economy.
2) it’s a PvP zone, enemies attacking you is not griefing, it’s the point of the mode you are playing. Sure, some players choose to let enemy players pass, that’s their prerogative. Mine is to kill or impede invaders in any way I can.
3) Don’t go afk in a hostile zone. If you want to “safely” go afk, just log out. it won’t cost you anything.
There are some actual ways to grief in the game but these 3 examples are not griefing.
Northern Shiverpeaks
I still think they just need to increase the size of the tiers. Such as to 6 servers, just so the matchup is completely random every week, with the tier list changing every month.
That would just result in a higher number of wasted blowout matches between uneven opponents.
Northern Shiverpeaks
You’re right, it is voluntary. No one is forcing you to accept the invite from “Server Invader.” So I would disagree in saying that it’s an easy tool for spying.
Spying implies that the spy is actually from the invading server and has transferred for the purpose of spying. Partying up with their buddies on the invading servers allows them to share info more efficiently, if only that their position is right there on the map at all times.
Northern Shiverpeaks
If you want that respect, don’t run with others following.
How the heck do you even expect them to control that? Hide from pugs and retreat to spawn as soon as anyone else from their server walks by?
Northern Shiverpeaks
here’s some demanding runs:
-from Drakkar Waypoint in Frostgorge Sound to Murdered Dreams Waypoint in Cursed Shore.
-from Rata Sum to EbonHawke.

NSP seems like a natural home for NP, it’s right there in the name!
plus we need the help =)

And I don’t want to see you Drunk posting! Is that even legal!
