In short, how do you guys occupy yourselves at max level?
Mostly by doing all the same stuff that we were doing before max level.
To me, it seems like the biggest problem for wow vets isn’t that there’s no “end game” as they know it, it’s that they’ve been trained to rush through “leveling” to reach “end game” and when they reach max level, they realize that it’s still the same game they were playing 1-79.
ie: no magic switch will be flipped at 80 that changes the game you were previously playing into a whole new experience.
if you enjoyed the stuff you did while leveling for it’s own sake, you’ll enjoy the game at 80… if the stuff you did on your way to 80 was just “something I need to rush through so I can be 80”.. you’ll hit max level and immediately feel bored and directionless.
Northern Shiverpeaks
stun doesn’t do any damage
this consumable buff lowers the duration of stuns applied to you.
Northern Shiverpeaks
But the issue is when you have a big numerical advantage on one side, it is a major (overly so imo) force multiplier for your siege. That basically puts the onus on the defenders to have to go outside and defeat a greater force to blow up attacking siege, because they can’t do it from inside their structure, which is kind of the whole point of holding a fortified position.
That’s why most real-world fortifications have sally ports. Defenders having to go outside the fortifications at times is an intrinsic component of siege warfare.
Northern Shiverpeaks
I haven’t experienced this kind of defense but is 1-second immobilize really that much game-breaking?
Well the thing with carts is that you get hit several times, so it’s not one instance of a 1second immobilize, it’s several of them.
Northern Shiverpeaks
I seriously doubt we’ll see a “tsunami of people” joining WvW for the first time just because of the patch.
There might be a trickle of new people overtime, but it’s not like queues will magically appear in most tiers that don’t have them now.

5. Additional bag slots
7. Additional bank slots
You can buy these with gems.

What skill is required to do this? How good do you have to be to select the right trait? How much practice does it take to be able to aim an arrow cart at a breach? There’s no skill involved in this.
The skill comes from both recognizing the synergy here, choosing to incorporate it in your build (evaluating opportunity cost) and playstyle.
Or.. you could say the skill components is on the other side of the equation and comes from players learning not to rush their whole zerg into siege range before figuring out what’s up there shooting at you. That and finding a way around it.
Northern Shiverpeaks
You can run out of them very quickly.
Assuming you also change your entire look very often.
You aren’t meant to redesign your entire appearance every day based on your mood… though you could if you wanted to, you just need to pay for that privilege.
Northern Shiverpeaks
If any professions where able to have the same advantage using siege
While they don’t have the exact same advantage, as several others have pointed out, the Warrior is not the only class to have some it’s mechanics applied to siege use.

New dance animations are far from trivial.
That being said, yes please more dances! =)

Millenium is only so up to date!
It was last updated 8 minutes before you posted this. that’s not even a tick’s worth.
that score btw:
Northern Shiverpeaks 112 720
Henge of Denravi 112 557
Gate of Madness 110 383

Any defended objective is already a kitten to take.
Strange, in all the threads here it seems most players feel the opposite is true.
ie: it’s a lot easier to attack than to defend.
which is probably why you have posts in this thread commenting on how this helps the overall balance more than hurts it(whether intended or not).
Northern Shiverpeaks
Using population trends would require them to be offline for longer than one match.
Which I mentioned in the sentence following the one you quoted.
Northern Shiverpeaks
This achievement having no cap undermines the value of all other achievements.
Please explain how.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Can’t they do that now anyway?
Yes/No.. say your guild represents 20% of the server’s active WvW population and the whole guild goes offline for one entire match:
-pop-based ranking system: your ranking just dropped 20% no matter what(using simplified math here, i understand it would take more time and have fancier math)
-current system: you probably won’t do to well with 80% of the population you normally have, but those 80% still have the power to produce a potentially better-than-expected result(or a much worse one)
one system relies partly on skill, coordination and in-game effort whereas the other is based solely on attendance.
Northern Shiverpeaks
the “levels of participation” vary constantly for dozens of reasons, there’s very big changes day-to-day and even averaged out week-to-week there’s dips and surges.
It’s vulnerable to manipulation because all it would take is a few big guilds to take a break for a week or two and then force a tier drop.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Since “grind” means doing a repetitive task you don’t enjoy over and over for an eventual reward… yes, grind is always a subjective topic. What is a grind to some is a great afternoon of gaming to others.
Northern Shiverpeaks
It’s always been possible, just use transmutation stones.

For those that are unable to read the thread: the current bug is a result of the recent change to engi turret mechanics.
It’s not actually a bug at all, it regular behaviour that is now possible since they removed the bug that was preventing sigils from working with kits. (ie: before kits/siege/env-weapons were ignoring a bunch of other systems, like traits.)
whether you think the current synergy is balanced or not, it’s not a bug.
Northern Shiverpeaks
I suggest you adjust the tiers based on recent WvW activity.
That sounds awfully vulnerable to match manipulation.
got any other suggestions?
Northern Shiverpeaks
Not being able to easily swap eq/build on the fly was a design decision.
The devs want our character to feel more alive and persistent, rather than an empty vessel for interchangeable build templates.
Northern Shiverpeaks
it’s a program.. things are either scripted, random, or both.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Wait who was the NSP [WAR]? Sometimes I hate my guild’s tag gets so confusing with all these [WAR]s out there
Don’t know but they had a heavy presence up till around xmas
Northern Shiverpeaks
False… Otherwise NSP (Ex-T6) would be rolling over T7. Just because a server is 1 tier above doesn’t mean it have a massive population advantage over the tier below it.
Except that NSP has lost some of it’s most active guilds over time.. we’ve been losing our population, that’s exactly why we slipped from t6 into t7 in the first place. War left, Meow left.. Os is the only big guild we have left.
Northern Shiverpeaks
When was the last time you looked at the size of the Arrow Cart AoE? It is far from a ball.
200 characters in that area seems pretty dense to me.
speaking of this whole “5v200”, why did we even stick to an arbitrary number that’s not actually possibly in the game currently with the population caps?
What’s the most a server can muster in a mapcurrently? how many can you get to be at that specific battle?
like 50? 60? what does tier 1 see during prime time with queues?
Northern Shiverpeaks
Might have something to do with the fact that When Kain left T8, people said the same thing, and Kain beat t7 like a hapless puppie, stomping T7 harder then they ever stomped T8, I mean, I am not sure how T7 deals with the shame of being stomped harder by Kain then T8 was, I am sure they have their stories, on how they justify doing worse then T8, but, lets be real, their vanity on how good they think they are compared to T8 is not founded, never has been, and history has shown it.
There’s no point to comparing the Kaineng that was in tier 8 for months to the post-migration Kaineng that plowed through 4 other tiers just as badly as tier 7.
see graph.
But hey, if T7 is as good as it thinks it is
It has little to do with “good”, it’s just active population and coverage differentials. It’s not personal.. everyone from tier1 down has lived with it too.
Unless you get the same kind of massive transfers to your server.. you’re not going to be able to compete with the higher tiers.

(edited by GrandmaFunk.3052)
Ya but in this extreme scenario of 5 holding down 200 indefinitely…. those 200 had to cram in a ball and go stand under the AoE to begin with… which sounds like a tactical failure on their part, whether this mechanic was in place or not.
Now the difference is they might actually pay for their overconfidence, rather than laugh it off thanks to the AoE cap.
Northern Shiverpeaks
OK so the more I think about it, the more it appears to be overpowered..
but.. an interaction that leads to an advantage for defenders that’s especially effective against zergs…. isn’t this exactly the kind of balancing we’ve needed in WvW?
Northern Shiverpeaks
But Holy Bananas…It still doesnt have that “oomf” that I was looking for even though its decently geared
You, the player, have to provide the “oomf”.
Northern Shiverpeaks
How many other player traits affect siege in an offensive capacity?
Many, siege weapon skills are treated like any other skill.
Any Traits or Runes that extends condition duration extends the duration of the conditions your siege attacks generate, for example.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Also, NSP, please please please start killing HoD.
It’s not like we aren’t trying …we’re getting massive pressure from both servers in EB.
This morning we were stuck barely holding on to our keep with GoM and HoD each having a 30+ zerg inside the outer walls for a while.. it was pretty funny when GoM showed up to assault the inner gate and realized there was already a lineup. =)
Northern Shiverpeaks
The number being fielded at ET and FC cannot be considerated real numbers aswell… There is a lot of people that refuse to fight as long SF still in T8. To not mention people who come in the fight but do not bother going against SF since it’s a sure loss…
So I’ll paraphrase your answer to be : “No, we don’t have anywhere close to the population we’d need, but maybe all those extra players will magically show up once we have a new opponent.”
Northern Shiverpeaks
proof is unattainable until it actually happens.
But it’s a pretty safe bet based on extrapolating comments made by ET and FC players about their population levels.
what have you observed on your own server? how often do you feel your server can field multiple 30-40player zergs in more than one shift? because that’s what HoD can bring to the table.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Sorry to burst your grand schemes but HoD’s actually in the lead right now.
Also, a T7 server dropping in to T8 might not be that much stronger than SF… but they certainly won’t be any weaker. T8 needs to stop daydreaming that SF moving out of the tier will solve their population issues, you’re gonna get stomped just as badly by any other server.

The dinner party analogy is flawed.
The dinner party analogy was strictly about his post insinuating that stealing is perfectly normal/expected if you “barely know” the victim(s).
Northern Shiverpeaks
how are you even in the guild in the first place lol. If a guild invites non-trustworthy people and grants them access to bank which has 200g, then it’s the kitten guild’s fault. They should learn to pick better people or simply don’t store 200g in bank. I mean who does that? store 200g?
While every guild should take steps to protect themselves from this kind of activity…. your post stinks of victim blaming.
Northern Shiverpeaks
So anet needs to be the cops, step in and perma ban you.
The problem with that is it forces Anet to review countless interpersonal arguments over who did what, who may or may not have the “right” to do X thing.
It would take a whole new team just to handle these policing requests.
Northern Shiverpeaks
>implying you all wouldn’t take 200+ gold from the guild you barely know
Hey I got invited to a dinner party but I barely know anyone here, it’s cool if i rob the host right?
Northern Shiverpeaks
Can we please limit picture attachments to be gw2 screenshots only?
or at least to gw2-related pictures?
I’m getting seriously fed up with all the meme junk showing up in the various WvW threads, this isn’t 4chan.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Yes you would have a problem with people running in at the tail end and pushing you past the limit but that is something we would just need to deal with since I don’t see them changing it to a split system.
That’s the thing though, their main design philosophy is that you should never be unhappy to see other players show up to help you.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Colin (Studio Director) in a recent interview actually said that griefing in the jumping puzzle is half of the fun of it, and intended in its design.
He was talking about it in the context of enemy players, not screwing your teammates on purpose “for the lulz”.

*Map, I would like campus option.
What is “campus option”?
Northern Shiverpeaks
What’s the points of this post? suggestion?
Northern Shiverpeaks
Seems like a great change to how Revealed works, makes sense mechanically and balance-wise.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Are you sure of this? I commonly play with 2 other guild members over a period of several hours, doing events as they come up, and I haven’t seen this +100 influence boost per event in the guild panel.
Well afaik the guild log only shows total influence gained from events from everyone in the guild over the course of an hour, it’s not granular enough to register individual events.
But I went to double check and I was indeed in error: the 3+ guildies for 100 extra influence is for dungeons, not events. The event bonus is 20 extra influence for 2+ guildies in a party; and it’s per event, so if you have 4 parties all with guildies doing the same event, you still only get the bonus 20 once.

The game changes frequently enough that any dead-tree resource will be out of date before it even reaches the printer.

Many professions/builds use their elite skills rarely-to-never… now without going into a tangent about why the elites aren’t being used(CDs too long, effect not worth it, etc..), would turning that Elite skill slot into an optional 4th Utility slot be feasible?
Just have it as a slot that can load either an elite or one of your remaining Utilities.
I don’t see the technical challenge of making the change being too difficult but I am worried about potential balance impacts.
Are there any professions/builds that would benefit from it to a much greater extent then others?
Northern Shiverpeaks
Because it would be a huge hassle to require everyone to re-list all their buy/sell orders every month, plus having to pay the listing fee again.
