Since they destroyed WvW at the same time HoT was released, GW2 has become a sad joke.

There is no point in playing HoT or WvW because of the xp / loot issues.

At this time HoT is a bust.

Leveling a Rev in the old world for now and playing other games while I wait for the devs to get a clue.

The devs didn’t recognize map completion when the current system went in. They had no problem throwing all my work away. I still don’t have the elites on my main even though he has full map completion.

Don’t trust the devs.

If you don’t want to do map completion, that’s not Anet’s fault.

My main has full map completion and was not given credit for the elites when the latest system went in. He still doesn’t have them because I don’t feel like doing that content again on that toon and they aren’t worth the 3 gold, etc.

Don’t fool yourself. The devs will gladly throw all your work away and make you do it again. Especially if they can find a way to make you pay real dollars for it. It’s all about the cash now. They don’t care about the players.

yeah, compelling, we’re compelled to leave the game to die.
they said they have a solution for the trait problem, all they did was screwing us over all over again.
they said they are gonna set things right, all they did was making sure that we are now forced to do all the things we deliberately avoided.

i don’t have a 100% map completion ankitten ot planning in doing it any time soon, i really don’t like dungeons but AFAIK it’s something forced.
so in short, you’re forced to do stuff you don’t like, changing the game in to labor.

You’re free to leave the game.. But you’re delusional if you think it’s going to die. Also, you can go ahead and get over yourself whenever you see fit. The game doesn’t revolve around you and what you want.

ANet knows what they’re doing. If you don’t believe that, you don’t have to use their product. Otherwise you need to just realize that kitten changes, and if you can’t deal with it, you’re better off leaving. Adapt or die, that’s the way of life.

And the way of mmo devs. Ask the Wildstar devs how well punishing their players worked out for them.

A small minority of people chose to grind/craft/tomes to level and as a result, has 0 skill challenges completed. Now they’re upset that they’re required to complete 65 skill challenges to unlock all core skills and traits, even though the base 400 points is enough to unlock everything they plan on using. They feel that since they have already unlocked these core traits/skills, they should be automatically unlocked in the new system.

I think you’re understating the numbers, the majority of WvW and PvP players with alts would in all probability have unlocked traits and abilities via scrolls and gold. We have legitimately earned the right to unlock those traits under the system in place therefore we certainly will be extremely upset if what we have done to earn those unlocks is swept aside.

This is the concern. That work completed will be invalidated.

I was going to say to trust the devs because what you say goes against their philosophy, but then I remembered that most of my work on my main didn’t count for squat in the system we have now. Then I got mad and logged off to play another game.

Ranger is a lot of fun, until you realize that the pet is 30 percent of your dps and it spends half of it’s time looking at everything except the mob it’s supposed to be hitting.

GW2 is a great game but the devs need to hire somebody that can actually program a pet.

Returning guild member's Server Transfer cost

Not going to happen and too much to ask of them. Especially since it is the 3 server WvW that brought most of our players here.

Frankly, they didn’t like GW2 enough to hang around the first time. Making them repeat it isn’t going to get them to return. It is the promise of something better, and a chance to play with friends doing RvR that might though.

Returning guild member's Server Transfer cost

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Grim West.3194

Grim West.3194

With the expansion coming up, is there any chance of lowering the server transfer cost? Or even better allowing returning guild members to join us on our server without gouging them?

My guild is / was an old DAoC PvP guild that became a victim of the endless server transfer fiasco during launch. Queue times etc had us chasing a moving target in server selection that left most of the guild so frustrated that they eventually quit playing.

With the new expansion many of them will be coming back hoping that WvW has improved enough to warrant their time. But now we are scattered all over the many servers we tried when transfers were free. They will never pay the outrageous cost being asked by Arena Net to get us all together again. And there is no way (that I know of) to help them.

Most of our guild members that left hate PvE. We are a PvP guild (realm vs realm) in every game we play. If their only option is to pay the server transfer cost or play PvE then they will chose the 3rd option and play another game.

I remember FF11 had an option to let guild members help get other guildies on to full servers. Perhaps GW2 can have something similar. There has to be a way to get old guild members to join us without paying an outrageous ransom.

Just adding my voice to the OP’s. Haven’t really logged in for months now, except rarely to check my mail and the guild status. For the most part the living story doesn’t interest me. I find the story on the whole to be very much a downgrade from GW1’s. And the temporary content doesn’t excite me for the most part.

But some of it has been very good. I really enjoy jumping puzzles, so I loved the Halloween Tower and the X-mas puzzle. And I’m not sure why but the Storybook stuff was a lot of fun too. I didn’t even care about the skins, just enjoyed running through the content. It helped that it was easily done solo. My guild is mostly MIA now and I don’t log in enough to join another one.

What I would like to see is much more interesting storylines like GW1’s and more permanent content not in the form of instanced dungeons.

GW2 against the casual player?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Grim West.3194

GW2 is very good compared to most mmo’s but GW1 was better. GW1 was challenging in the beginning. It took effort and thought to play. They dumbed it down quite a bit the last few years but GW1 still has much better skill mechanics, storyines and PvP.

GW2 right out of the gate had faceroll pve. It was still fun at first when there were lots of other players around triggering massive events. But even that old quickly because there just isn’t any challenge to it. And now with most zones empty the pve is just lame. The WvW has a lot going for it but also doesn’t have any long term appeal.

GW2 is almost a great game. But for whatever reason the devs failed to live up to GW1’s standards. GW2 is better than most but ultimately forgettable.

Guild Bounties Now Punish Smaller Guilds

Grim West.3194

The Guild Wars 2 devs have fallen into the same trap that most mediocre gaming devs find themselves. Guild Wars 2 is all about the zerg, in PvE and WvW.

They want to believe otherwise and will tell you to your face that it isn’t so. But the proof is in the results.

My guild gave up on the game a long time ago. Some of us log in for the special events, those are actually fun. But the rest of the game is very poorly designed and easily beaten by having the biggest zerg. Tactics and skill are not needed in GW2, just massive amounts of players to beat content a two year old could design.

GW2 still has potential, but most mmos have “potential”. Unless that potential is actually realized then most gamers will be somewhere else.

I feel your pain and know how hard this must be, but if you can’t get help from them, you need to help yourself. Since there were so many in the old guild that were inactive anyway, remake the guild. Yes you’ll lose the influence and things you’ve already learned but consider it a lesson hard learned. Considering you still get to keep your guild I think you got out easy. It could have been worse and the rank could have gone to someone who went power-hungry and completely destroyed your guild. Remake it, rebuild from the ashes, heck that could open up for a lot of interesting new names too. A year or so from now you’ll all have a nice laugh about it and I’m sure it will become the running joke for a while. It’s not the end of the world. Dust yourself off, rebuild.

You actually do lose your guild if u want to create another one. I checked the options and got none from the guild registrar and in the guild window itself, the only option i have is to step down. Which is kind of odd. Stepping down would imply I’m actually leading/heading something which obviously I’m not currently.

So I guess if I want to create another guild, I would have to abandon this one. That may not seem such a big deal, but even more than losing all the upgrades and influence I’ve built up, I don’t want to lose my guild name.

You can create another guild but first you have to stop representing the guild you are in (you don’t have to leave it). Once you have created the new guild, you can go back to representing your existing guild.

Although, you shouldn’t have to do that in the first place. ANET should have helped you by now. But I’m not surprised they haven’t. Their customer service is really poor compared to other games. Keep bugging them with tickets and post regularly in the account issues forum. They may eventually realize that they are wrong.

I guess everybody missed the memo where they actually did state very clearly that there would be more progression in terms of stats on gear, just no new tiers of gear.

Mike O’brien said: ““I hope we’ve been clear that Guild Wars 2 is not a game with virtually no stat progression in it like Guild Wars was.”

And Chris Whiteside added: “We have never said there would be no vertical progression. We do intend to focus on horizontal, but we will have vertical progression moving forward with the focus on zero grind and a very low power curve.”

Source: http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/11/28/arenanet-guild-wars-2-gear-debate/

A little is fine, but what we have here is a monstrosity. You cannot deny this.

I don’t deny anything. I think it is a treadmill, and that they blatantly (and underhandedly) sold a very large amount of their copies to customers that were under the impression of Guild Wars 2 not having any grind/stat progression.

Yep, it was a bait and switch.

I don’t mind grinds for rare cosmetic gear. Thought that was cool in GW1 and it is TRULY optional.

But grinding for stat plus 1 in endless instanced dungeon runs, forces players into the chase the carrot mentality, while simultaneously emptying out those areas that do not give the same rewards. It is the worst possible design for mmos because they totally devalue all the art assets they worked so hard on while herding everyone into a small, ugly room. Really, really boneheaded design.

The end result has been an empty world and endless Lion’s Arch overflows with people begging for FoTM groups. Sooo much fun… really… the best fun ever invented /rolls eyes.

Also, are you responsible for the rewards for JP’s? I’m just curious if the loot table for an easy puzzle (like Urmaug) is the same as those which are harder and take much longer (if you can share that type of information)

No, we map artists are teamed up with a scripter, and scripter has to keep all that economy balance stuff in mind. I know little about those issues.

Instead of having gear rewards they should put BoP unique visual skins in the JP chests. That would help return the game to it’s roots and save the issues of economy for other things.

Found the norn puzzle in the beginning zone (Shaman’s Rookery I think) while exploring right after launch and had no clue what was going on. Spent a couple hours there until I finally finished it. What rush. Kudos to the devs for putting them in.

I like most of them. The mad king tower is one of the best. I also liked Griffonrook Run.. that one was tough, another one that took a long time to finish.

I just wish there were tangible rewards at the end. Getting low level greens after spending so much time finishing them is a bit of a let down. Still fun though.

I would like to see links to any of your suppositions re gear progression in GW1 being actual statements by any Anet management.

Until then, I will assume you really can’t speak as to what Anet planned, who their target demographic was, or anything else you are claiming.

“Suggests”, ’had they known" "probably"" IMO" etc is supposition, and does not, in any way, validate an absolute statement like “ANet never was against gear progression”

It is all opinion. In my opinion.

It’s all suggestions, interpretations and implications here on this forums, even if someone quotes a dev. They have said that GW1 has become stagnant, and by the powers of logical deduction, which are looking at their stance towards gear progression now, and the lack of marketing towards a stagnant/horizontal progression demographic in GW1 suggests to me that that this is their point of view. Whether or not, my interpretation of ANet’s actions and words was not point of my last post, or the thread.

Here’s something more relevant to the discussion: Vertical progression is needed because without it, a large MMO like GW2 couldn’t survive financially. The amount of players preferring stat progression greatly outnumbers the amount of players that do not, and are necessary to being marketed toward you want to break even or make at least some profit. Proof? None. Indications? ANet’s introduction of end game gear progression and the innumerable posts on other MMO’s fansites such as TERA, SWOTOR, TSW in favor of end game gear progression compared to those against it. The most common complaint about from players about gear grid these days is that it’s too repetitive, or takes too long, not that it’s there at all. ANet improved your run of the treadmill(hah, see what I did there?) gear grind with a balanced, optional gear progression. Grated, it still needs to become more accessible in certain parts of the game, but this is something being worked on as we speak.

GW1 was extremely successful, one of the best selling mmos of all time. Your reasoning is flawed.

According to the developers, GW1 was a stagnant game. Coupled with the fact that they never planned GW1 to have any PvE longevity heavily suggests that had they known about the number of players interested GW1’s PvE from the get go, they would have launched the game with long term gear progression.

The reason so many people loved GW1’s pve is because it DIDN’T have long term gear progressions. It boggles the mind how clueless devs are about what makes a good game. GW1 was a much better game than GW2. And if what you say is true then the devs should have learned a valuable lesson and not created a gear grind in GW2.

But instead they went the route of every other lame gear grind mmo out. The world didn’t need another WoW gear / daily grind clone but that’s what they gave us.

As long as grinding instanced dungeons is required endgame play in GW2 then they will continue to lose customers.

Yes. Because that’s worked out so poorly for World of Warcraft right?

The people who like that sort of thing already play WoW. Most players came to GW2 because ANET promised us something different. The introduction of FoTM and it’s mandatory grind conicides with the massive drop off in players logging into GW2.

Yeah, I’m willing to give a few servers a try. Just wanted an idea of which are the most populated servers so I don’t have to fly blind.

As others have said GW2 has some depth, but there just isn’t a need for it. GW2 is extremely easy. You don’t have to think or do anything, just hit auto attack and go to sleep.

What brought it all home to me were the little dolls that popped from the presents. Suddenly I had to stay away and actually think a bit to beat them. Use a little strategy and turn off my autoattack. I enjoyed the challenge of them and was opening presents just to fight them.

But apparently the complaining masses spooked the devs because I haven’t seen them the last couple of days. The other mobs that pop are the autoattack while you sleep type.

There is no challenge to GW2 and frankly the game sucks because of it.

As long as they can keep the majority of players happy with better gear to work for, they can take all the time they need with new features. It gave them some much needed breathing room.

The majority of the playerbase left.

Not quite sure of how you came to this conclusion. With the servers between high and full, we might be playing a different game.
Struggling to understand how I cleared several DEs chains this afternoon and then went on to clear two paths of CoE…I must have really imagined all these players, and the loot I sold …it must have be imaginary too ! So depraved of playerbase that I’m making them up myself.

Not trying to be a fanboy but before you spout utter nonsense, maybe make sure no one is reading it?

Because the game is working differently than a typical gear treadmill MMO, it is going to behave differently. Its pace will be different.

ANet aren’t fools and I’m pretty sure that they know that the majority of its early players at at lvl80, in full exotics and that some already have alts at the same level.
Hence in order to keep the interest of these players and to keep their trade, something is going to have to be done. Even fractals is becoming all news now.

It’s time for some more juicy content, and they know it. So far within three months, we’ve had the halloween event, the lost shore event and the wintersday event.

If they keep up with this trend of releasing semi-filling regular content, we are good to keep playing. Plus, it won’t be forever until they feel ready enough to tell us about an expansion…whenever that may be.

Lol, you don’t actually believe that High / Full server bs do you? Do you even play the game? Almost Every guild has lost 90 percent or more of their players. The only guilds doing well have to recruit like madmen. Every zone is empty except Lion’s Arch.

A blind man can see that most of the playerbase has left GW2.

There still are a lot of people playing this game. They sold a ton of boxes. But the vast majority of players have moved on.

I thought the very point of my post was that I play the game. I even literally said I just cleared a dungeon and some DEs in Orr.

I think the reason you feel the game feels empty is because since most people are lvl80 already and pretty much fully geared, most players will be found in LA looking for groups or in high level zones carrying out their business.

It sadly is a fact of life for MMOs that once your playerbase levels up, the newbie zones are going to feel deserted. What this means in practice is that the first main wave of players are done leveling, and what they need is need blood.

Like I said every MMO has a pace, right now it’s that time of its life where things are going to feel a bit quiet in the newbie zones. New blood will come through, as it always does.

You’re not going to get the same rush as it was on its release date..until its expansion. An expansion serves two goals : to bring old players back, and to encourage new players to join in.

About the “high/full bs”, yes I do believe it. You do know there is WvW and sPvP. Not all players are doing the same thing in the same zone at the same time.
And guilds dying is pretty much standard. Rare are the guilds who survive from day 1 til the day the game closes its servers.

I’m currently leveling my 3rd alt, sure it is quieter around here than it was that when I leveled my main, but I still see people. If anything exploration helps a fair bit.

The point of events like Halloween, Lost Shores and Wintersday is to keep bringing people in so we are not alone in here
They are doing what they can, and they’re not doing a shabby job of it.

Heheh. Just look at all the empty low tier servers who can’t even get a Lion’s Arch overflow to pop. When a server doesn’t have enough players to get Lion’s Arch to overflow then yet they are listed as High / Full then that should be pretty good sign that the pop claims are bs.

The facts of life in every mmo are that after a couple of months over 70 percent of the playerbase moves on. That isn’t any different in GW2. From the looks of things it is probably closer to 80 percent attrition.

Again, the game still has a lot of players. But the majority of the playerbase left the game and they haven’t returned, even with the holdiay events (which are good) and other incentives. Those are just the facts.

Edit: A server being High / Full just indicates how many player accounts are tied to that server. NOT how many people are playing the game. A server could be listed as Full and still not have anyone actually on line.

Is there a vertical progression in endgame?

there are no Dead servers. People are dispersed. Lion’s arch right now always is in overflow. It’s logical that that fewer people is playing in the middle zones…

Anyway… where do you hear that they are going to merge servers? That is absurd.

There are plenty of dead servers. Don’t spout nonesense.

Lion’s Arch overflow is the way they should do all pve zones. Mid tiers don’t have to be empty. There are plenty of people playing in them accross all servers but they are too spread out at the moment because ANET dropped the ball.

Make all pve zones overflow by default and the problem is solved. And they can give up on their useless guest feature that will rarely be used. What a waste of dev time.

They don’t need to merge servers, just make all pve zones overflow by default. Then there would always be plenty of people to do events and dungeons with. They should do this immediately.

Their guest feature sounds great on paper but in reality it will be rarely if ever used. Most peoples friends have already left the game. What we need is the abiltiy to play with anyone, even anonymous strangers, at anytime, anywhere.
