Did the most of my crafting before HoT. 3 sets of gear (light, med, heavy). Glad I did too, had to craft a few pieces after HoT to finish up the sets and I was amazed how much more it cost. Luckily I had most of the mats saved up.
Haven’t played the game since though. The cost didn’t bother me too much, but the other changes HoT made are over the top.
And apparently a huge portion of HoT players don’t think it is fun… hence the empty maps and endless complaints.
To be honest- all MMOs are grindy…if you really don’t like grind then I suggest you look at other game types.
Lol. Been playing MMO’s for a loooong time. The difference between grinding and not grinding is the fun factor. If you are having fun then it isn’t a grind. HoT is all about the grind without any of the fun.
Most players don’t care about raids. The game is emptying out because HoT is garbage.
Well if you enjoy empty maps and endless grinds for little reward, then more power to you.
However, you may be right about the six months thing. ANET has been good about fixing things before. And they did make some of the best games ever (imo) with GW1 and GW2 (before HoT). So I hold out hope they they can fix this ugly mess. But it’s going to take a lot of soul searching on their part to recognize how horribly off track they are with HoT.
You have blinders on. HoT is a disaster, white knighting it will not bring me or anyone else back to the game. GW2 isn’t the game it use to be and most of the changes HoT brought to the table are garbage.
Small guilds lost everything they worked for and are being made to redo all the work they did before. Work that can’t be done by small guilds anymore. And making people redo the work they did before is not an expansion, it is a rip off.
WvW has had zero comunication and it has been decimated by ANET’s horrible “expansion”.
There are a ton of issues with HoT, the empty maps and endless complaints should give you a clue.
The new name is Grind Wars 2 unfortunately.
What have they said about small guilds being kicked to the curb?
What have they said about WvW being decimated.
In fact what have they said about any of the major complaints about HoT?….. ZERO.
Minor bandaids and raids are not communication.
I agree OP. I think all the empty zones and endless complaints about HoT prove you are right.
The game isn’t about fun anymore.
ANET will not get another dime from me unless they make major changes to HoT and their “new direction”.
They may do that, ANET has been pretty good at fixing things before. But HoT is a whole new level of ugly for them. I’m not sure they can fix it this time.
Anet has gone silent again? You must live in a bubble. Let’s talk about the “silence” of Anet for a second.
People complained about 400 points needed for elite specializations and Anet fixed that, by reducing it to 250, which very few people complain about.
People complained about high level mastery gating in the story and Anet removed some of it, so that people could get through the story with only a few basic masteries that are easy to level.
People complained about some hero points, and so Anet changed some of them to make them easier.
They came out with the commander UI, the new legendaries and the raids, just as they said they would and most people seem to be enjoying the raids, at least those that like that sort of thing.
People complained about Fractal rewards and Anet posted they’re working on them and that they’d be fixed/changed in December.
Anet hasn’t been silent in any way, shape or form and only someone deliberately ignoring what’s being said would say so.
Raiding is for serious players who invest time and energy into the game. The few people who think ascended gear is too hard or expensive to get that leave the game, they’ll be a tiny percent of the hard core community.
Actually the biggest “crisis” area of the game right now is WvW and Anet communicated about that too and said it’s simply too big a problem to have addressed yet, but they are working on it and will continue to work on it.
Anet hasn’t be silent and by saying so, you make me question everything else you’ve said.
white knight at its finest here. as you are in many other posts. sorry but arenanet is whispering only, which equals to many people as silence, we are working on it or changes will come next month (promises promises) are not really things that people want to hear. I think what people trying to say is that they want MORE communication from arenanet other then a simpe blogpost. where are all the devs that usually post on the forums? many are used that on a regular base devs reply to topics, SPECIALLY when there are so many “complaints” ( I rather say worries about the future of this game). I do get your point of view. but it seems you are blindly following every single word arenanet is telling you. ´this makes you look like a white knight.
There’s being a white knight and there’s ignoring fact. Which thing did I say wasn’t a fact?
Did Anet change the hero point total needed to unlocked elite specializations. Yes.
Did Anet change some of the hero points, turning them into either communes or veterans? Yes.
Did Anet post about fixing fractal rewards next month? Yes.
Did Anet release the raids and new commander UI yes.And through all of it they’ve been talking to us. Now talking to us doesn’t mean they’re going to tell you what you want to hear, but saying they’re not talking to us is demonstrably false.
And using terms like White Knight to try to make what I say look untrue is pointless, because what I’ve said is factually true and can be checked.
I’m sorry you have some kind of problem with the game, but that doesn’t mean Anet isn’t talking to us. Saying they’re not is simply wrong.
It’s one thing to complain about something you like. It’s another thing to try to contradict fact. It’s a pointless exercise.
You are white knighting ANET. Those changes were minor and just bandaids on a very horrible expansion.
Actually HoT is more of a “contraction” for many players. WvW has been decimated, small guilds have been kicked to the curb, all their hard work taken away. Dungeons abandonded and huge grind / pay walls set up for everyone to “enjoy”. Those are just a small list of the disastrous decisions ANET has made.
HoT is garbage.
(edited by Grim West.3194)
GW2 is well known for having a low reward vs time ratio.
If you are looking for a game that makes you feel adequately rewarded for the time you spend, GW2 isn’kitten
That said, I am a die hard GW2 fan. Then again, I’m not the kind of person who cares about rewards so much as gameplay and atmosphere.
But yea, GW2 does not reward proportionately in my opinion.
GW2 before HoT was pretty good at loot. Loot is very important to these games, even the old text adventures were about finding hidden treasure.
HoT changed all that. Now you have a lot of people telling us we shouldn’t enjoy loot and should just play the game for nothing and like it. To hell with those idiots.
There are plenty of games and devs out there that understand MMO design 101. The current crop of ANET devs are not part of that group.
HoT is garbage.
Lack of loot, too much grinding and too much gated content. Boring.
I don’t mind the harder mobs, that was kind of fun. Love the gliding. That’s about it.
There were plenty of percs for guilds before guild halls. Small guilds worked very hard for them and they were all taken away.
But the thing is, their guild is not our guild. And they have zero staying power… they are not GW2-dedicated, so we don’t want to throw all our mats at their guild knowing it’s not ours and they’ll be bailing out whenever their fps-focused group of people gets bored.
Why not having them throw some mats at yours? help should be both sided if friends, no?
Why not have the devs give us back what we worked for already? Why should I have to pay to do something twice? Why is that acceptable to anyone?
Being a new player you haven’t had the experience of the ANET devs taking away a ton of stuff you enjoyed and worked very hard for. We paid $60 (or more) for an “Expansion”, not a contraction.
A guild hall is for a guild, not for 3 players. Also, the guild hall is not much content, it’s just a huge area with nothing in it (well with fluff in it if it’s filled with… fluff like a chair you can’t even sit on).
Besides the +% food the tavern guy gives me, and cheap transportation to the Magus Falls, I don’t need it.
The skins. The entire purpose of this game behind a wall of friends I don’t have. If it was all just a place to run around, I wouldn’t give a rat’s kitten . It’s not about buffs (though 10% xp, karma, etc is nice when you’re leveling or farming… It’s about the skins we won’t have. It’s about the principle of the thing…
Content gating can suck my butt.
Not every game and game’s content can satisfy everyone’s need, deal with it. This is an MMO and it follows mostly the guidlines of an MMO. Why can’t people accept this? I don’t like those skins actually, but yes, this is an argument.
Some people like having to pay to do content over again. Most of us think that is pathetic gameplay though.
WvW is dead….
So, basically, not only can my small guild not even claim it’s own Guild Hall with it’s 2 or 3 people (family – pretty much the only people I can stand any more), but we have to get to guild level 40 and get an insane amount of materials – like completely impossible within the expected lifetime of this game (my kids will be through college before I was able to grind out all materials)- in order to fully experience the game.
2-3 people aren’t even a full party you can’t call them a “guild”
But the problem is that GW2 BEFORE HoT did call them a guild and let them put a lot of time and effort into all the percs.
Then HoT took it away and redefined what a guild is. Now they are telling every small guild that played for years under the old system that they don’t count. To top it all off ANET took everything away that they earned.
ANET has screwed over a ton of people with HoT. It was truly a crass and underhanded move by the devs and they deserve all the ire we throw at them.
The devs are changing Guild Wars into a WoW clone with a hyper grinding / cash shop focus.
I bought all the GW1 games and GW2 because it wasn’t a WoW clone. There are plenty of those out there already and I burnt out on that style many years ago. If I liked WoW clones I would still be playing them.
This new change in direction may make them a ton of cash, but I wouldn’t count on it. They had a unique game in the past and it had it’s own (very profitable) niche. Now they have to share profits with everyone who does exactly the same kind of game. How boring, unimaginative and short sighted.
HoT is a very very poor expansion. It decimated WvW, dungeons and many other parts of the game.
I haven’t asked for my money back but that is only because ANET created some of the best game experiences out there in GW1 and the original GW2. I am hoping that at least some of that old talent can fix HoT.
But for now, HoT is garbage and not worth my time, or money.
Funny, I had fun there last night. And the night before. Now maybe that’s because all the players who took WvW super seriously aren’t around anymore? Don’t know.
Lol. Your PvDoor escapades don’t interest me. You are obviously full of it. WvW is a pale shadow of what it use to be and the new maps are EMPTY ON ALL TIERS at all times.
HoT destroyed WvW, everyone who isnt’ a irrational fanboi knows that.
It won’t fix WvW, So it is a useless patch for those of us who left the game after HoT destroyed WvW.
WvW is empty now and will remain so for a very long time.
I’ve moved on, it is obvious the devs are either clueless or just totally incompetent. Don’t even log in for the daily rewards anymore, let alone doing the daily achievement.
WvW was always my fallback when PvE got boring (usually about an hour after logging in). But HoT is so pathetically horrible that I’ve given up on the game completely. PvE and WvW are a sad pathetic shadow of what they once were. Now it’s all grinding and paywalls. What a joke.
HoT is basically a game that took everything away that I worked for and made me pay for the “privilege” of working on it all over again. ANET is the laziest bunch of devs I have ever seen.
Hopefully the devs will get a clue and fix the abomination called HoT. But it won’t happen soon and in the mean time they are going to continue to lose players by the shipload.
HoT is a disaster.
HoT is by design a slap in the face to a huge portion of the playerbase. They took away much of what we had already worked for and hid it behind massive grinds and gold sinks.
The game isn’t about fun anymore, it’s just a cash grab and a boring chore.
They’re too busy working on PVE raids. GrindWars2 is the new name for what use to be a good game.
Most of the small guilds that did roaming/upgrading during off-hours, have left the wvw. And many have left the game too because PvE is boring to them.
You cant seriously ask any wvw guild to grind months in PvE, gathering thousands of items (account-bound, yay!) just so they can unlock upgrade for the wvw mode. Thats. Just. Stupid.
Plus you cant just remove upgrades from guilds and then say if you buy the expansion you can grind months in PvE mode to get your upgrade back. Thats. Also. Stupid.
It amazes me that the GW2 devs were so clueless in all of their choices. HoT not only killed WvW but it is a huge failure for almost every game type that was popular before.
Small guilds were kicked to the curb. WvW players dumped on and spit on. Everything we worked so hard for just tossed away by them without a thought or care to how much effort we put in.
And now they expect us to play PvE for endless weeks just so we can join WvW again. It’s a HoT crap sandwich from the devs and they expect us to like it. They can go to hell.
The expansion in it’s current state is not fun for a very large portion of the playerbase. Like Pezz, many of them are leaving.
They may come back later, GW2 makes that easy, but the fact that they are leaving so soon after HoT’s release should make it obvious to everyone that there is something wrong with GW2 atm.
Can’t have a war if there is nobody to fight.
I bought HoT for two accounts. I don’t regret it…. yet.
I say that because the Devs have always found ways to fix the game before.
But HoT is a disaster, they may not be able to fix it. If that ends up being true then I will regret paying for it.
Those negative comments reflect the feelings of a huge portion of GW2’s player base. HoT is not a success.
The devs have every right to create a horrible game system that punishes players who want to have fun. HoT is all that.
And we have every right to tell them to ….. it.
Have been playing SWTOR’s new expansion, it’s fun. HoT isn’t.
HoT is a bust. The mega server hides some of it’s failings, but the sad truth is that HoT killed GW2.
When GW2 came out, every server every night had wvw ques and every zone was packed. Events scaling created epic events in low level zones because of all the people.
Just before HoT GW2 still had a ton of people on the top servers queing up for wvw and there were plenty of people in low AND high level zones.
After HoT released there was a weekend of fun when a good amount of people showed up to try the new stuff, it wasn’t epic like GW2’s release but it was mildly amusing.
Then HoT killed GW2.
Now the whole game is basically a ghost town. Sure there are occasional events that get packed and once and a while ONE zone gets filled up. But the sad truth is that HoT pushed many players away from the game and made it actually worse than before it’s release.
ANET failed and only the totally clueless can’t see that.
WvW is already dead, and ANET is too busy adding outfits to the AH to fix it.
I LOVE the new maps so much I NEVER play them! If I do, I’ll faint from too much EXCITEMENT!
New Legendaries need PvP & WvW, and it's ok.

I’ll probably never get one of the new legendaries. But I will respect anyone that does, as long as it requires real in game effort that can’t be bought.
Whenever I see one of the old legendaries I just think they pulled out the credit card. Nothing to respect there.

HoT’s guild “improvements” were a light year step…. backwards.
You are one of “those” people. You know what I meant by the statement you quoted. Taking it hyper literally is just a sad attempt on your part to troll even harder.
We get it, you like the grind, you like the lack of loot, you like trolling people who don’t live in a basement..
HoT is a grind fest that goes against everything the devs promised.
But there is hope. The old GW devs knew how to fix things they screwed up and make them better. I’m hoping the new set of devs and their egos aren’t totally blind to the failings of HoT and the correct fixes to improve the fun.
Making content easier is not the fix. Making it fun and not a grind is.
One of the first things they need to do is deal with all the different xp tracks. Separating them was a horrendous mistake. Simplify that immediately.

There is no point in playing HoT or WvW because of the xp / loot issues.
At this time HoT is a bust.
Leveling a Rev in the old world for now and playing other games while I wait for the devs to get a clue.
Not really. There are many sources for XP and you’re only focusing on the few that are not because they were exploitable.
Lol, don’t know where you got that nonsense from. I didn’t mention anything that was exploitable.
HoT is a grind fest without loot. Those are the facts.
It takes forever to get a level of xp all so you can buy more abilities that only work in HoT. And those abilities make it easier to get…. no loot.
In the past I would just WvW until the devs fixed things, but they screwed that up also.
Boring…
The exploitable part were the events that spawn infinite mobs which is why they give no loot or XP.
It doesn’t take forever to gain mastery levels in HoT. You’re likely not killing anything and focusing solely on events.
Lol, I love your assumptions, especially since they are always wrong.
HoT is a grind fest without loot. Those are the facts.
You can try to claim black is white all day but it doesn’t change the simple fact that playing HoT is boring and pointless.
I work for a living, GW1 and GW2 were great for people like me. HoT is for basement living no lifers.
Without loot? Why are my bags always full after running DS or any large meta event chain? I’m starting to get the feeling that you haven’t actually played in the expansion maps because people do get quite a lot of experience and loot contrary to your belief that it’s the exact opposite.
And thanks for the insult to all players that play and enjoy HoT. Constructive.
Lol, more assumptions from you that again are all wrong. And also some “mis statements” too.
I didn’t have any issues soloing most of the maps, except the champs of course. Participated in most of the events in all of the maps. The loot drops suck and the xp rate is horrible.
I have 2 of my characters in HoT atm. One of them spent all weekend there. The other one just enough to get his elite masteries then I left out of complete and utter boredom. I haven’t taken any of my other characters to HoT because it’s just not fun or rewarding.
I would prefer to WvW but they screwed that up too.
I expect they will fix the drop rates eventually and the xp curve. They already made a lot of the content easier by relocating hero pts and changing some of the champs to vets. But I didn’t care about that, the content isn’t too hard, it’s just pointless and unrewarding.
That’s the problem. You did the content solo which is slow and the mobs don’t scale (fewer mobs and fewer are vets or higher).
It’s not slow to me, the mobs died fast. And in the events there were plenty of people. You are just plain wrong.
No. I maxed out all of my masteries late last week. I think I would know what gives experience and loot. It doesn’t matter you’re killing normal mobs faster. It’s still slower than with a large group of players to upscale it so more mobs spawn and scale up to veteran or elite (more XP per kill).
You assume you are the only one who knows how events scale. Get a clue.
You apparently think getting a backpack full of junk and blues is a great loot score. Get a clue.
You can get better loot and more of it in a shorter time period just playing the old game or doing the Holloween event. That content is much easier too, so much for risk/reward.
And the only reason to get xp in HoT is to get more abilites that make it easier to get to the to the loot that doesn’t exist in HoT. It’s a horrible design and they have already acknowledged that by the many changes they made in haste during the weekend.
HoT is a bust.
You seem very combative.
If you knew how mobs scale then you would realize that higher tiered ones reward more XP and more mobs spawn. This equates to more XP and shooting you well above what you would earn which is evidenced by your experienced compared to mine and others who did them in groups. I suggest you try doing them in groups.
Back back of blues and junk as loot. Weren’t you claiming earlier that they awarded no loot? We’ve gone from no loot to junk now. Yes, the Halloween farm awarded valuable items because of the new shoulder skin. There are other areas that award a higher gold per hour. The point of this thread isn’t about whether or not HoT maps provide the best gold per hour through direct gold or drops.
Thank you for your opinion on HoT.
I already told you I participated in the events with plenty of people, enough that we had to taxi people in. The loot sucked.
You don’t want to admit that HoT sucks for xp and loot. That’s fine, if you like it then more power to you. But for everyone I play with we hate HoT because there is no reward for playing anymore.
It’s even worse in WvW, which I prefer to play and level in. But they screwed that up also.
HoT is pretty, the flying is fun and the music is awesome. But that doesn’t carry a game beyond a couple of days.
The rest of HoT is a very boring waste of time. More work than play.
No you didn’t. You said you did the events solo.
So you changed your argument from no loot to loot that sucked. Is that your final stance or will it change again?
HoT provided great XP. Maybe not like CoF but still pretty amazing compared to the beta weekends. We’ve always received meh drops in open world and these are no different that in the core game. I don’t see why you’re using it against HoT when it was pretty prevalent before it except for a few notable farms.
You play the game and you get XP. You play the game doing various activities and such and you get mastery points. You play the game and you get map currency for rewards. It’s only work because you choose to make it such.
Then you misread my posts because I was very clear about participating in events with other people. I soloed between events while exploring. You read what you wanted to read with your pre conceived assumptions.
Now you are just trying to defend the indefensible. The truth for most people is that HoT is a boring waste of time.
You like it, that’s great for you. We don’t, and that is why so many people are already moving on.
There is no point in playing HoT or WvW because of the xp / loot issues.

And the only reason to get xp in HoT is to get more abilites that make it easier to get to the loot that doesn’t exist in HoT. It’s a horrible design and they have already acknowledged that by the many changes they made in haste during the weekend.
HoT is a bust.

I soloed because I didn’t need a group for most of it. Mobs die fast if you know how to play and GW2 PvE has never been hard. And in the events there were plenty of people. You are just plain wrong.
And if you are saying you HAVE to be in a group to get loot for killing the same mob then that is just plain stupid design.
HoT is a boring grind fest without loot.
