You don’t need a group / squad to enjoy WvW.

So lately I’ve been playing my ranger, trying something different. Just following the zerg around, or roaming. Fun class, but selfish. Don’t expect an invite and don’t ask for one. I understand the synergy problems.

Group synergy favors certain classes that provide benefits. When playing squad friendly toons, I almost always get an immediate invite. Ranger never. Works for me.

Guilds over a hundred in size are not efficient, unless you divide them up into subgroups. That’s fine for pve, but for WvW it’s an exploit, and it destroys competitive balance. Alliances between guilds are much more efficient.

Which is why I say this isn’t pvp oriented mmorpg. You are superimposing a specific game design part into part of gw2 design. You are fundamentally changing the designs without a single care how much impact it will cause to numerous guilds. It is thoughtless and not only that, it will never implemented because of how it change the game fundamentally.

Yeah, you hyperbole a lot and refuse to look at the bigger picture. Now I see why people think your ideas are junk.

The WvW guild idea is just a tool to allow the ANET devs to rebalance the servers. There are very very few guilds that actually field over 100 regular WvW players, or even 50, and you know it. Any guild over that size fielding that many players is part of the balance problem, and again, you know it. Time for you to admit that you are part of the problem.

But finally, it doesn’t matter. ANET will never fix this issue. THEY DON’T CARE.

ANET only cares about suckering more people into giving them even more transfer money for the latest server of the week.

Your explanations just mean you didn’t get it. It’s about balancing, that is all.

ANET cannot work with the existing guild structure and balance servers effectively. They would have to split the big guilds up. That would cause a lot of issues for people who want to stay with other regulars but instead get stuck on different servers with guildies who haven’t logged in for years.

You will still be able to rep a non WvW guild. The WvW guild is a new type that allows for players to declare what guild they are representing when balancing happens. And it can’t be a regular guild because they are too big.

Balancing means moving people around. Without some sort of declaration by the player then there is no way to maintain guild / server relationships since regular guild types are cross server.

Again this is about balancing servers. Btw, I never attacked your ideas. Paranoid much?

SkyShroud. Not sure where you think I am asking for a PvP mmorpg, since I never alluded to that. The post you are probably referirng to was in response to the one above, by Jayne.

Perhaps you should spend more time reading other peoples posts and less time typing.

My suggestions are only about balancing the servers with minimal changes to existing mechanics and systems. Keeping it simple is what the devs are more likely to do rather than costly coding and restructuring.

But it really doesn’t matter what we suggest. The devs have no intention of fixing the server balance issues that have existed since launch.

Hah. You are reaching. My guild came to this game for the RvR back when it launched. We did every type of WvW gameplay extensively. Most of us have played almost every RvR game ever created, starting with DAoC. We know the gig.

Sadly, most of my guild doesn’t play GW2 anymore. We moved on to other games that have real tactical squad / group play. To them GW2 is a pathetically cheesy zergfest. I still enjoy GW2 and WvW but understand their reasons, and they are right.

You’re saying this defense network is inconsequential and can be assigned randomly, when this network is the most integrated part of wvw.

Sure if you want pve champ train maps and no resistance. Because your idea would essentially wipe out every scout and defender you have.

What is to prevent them from scouting / defending for their new server? Servers that will be much more balanced than now. Your argument makes no sense.

No, it shows that you don’t actively do this yourself when you play — because otherwise you’d understand why this is a dumb idea.

Go scout, go do the grunt work, for a month. Do it every day. Then you’ll understand why these unguilded networks are the backbone of your server; and are built up because of cooperation and community.

Lol. Then create a WvW guild for scouts / defenders on your server. If you can’t bothered to do that then you really are not part of any network.

This is no better that the OP’s idea. It’s a forced move, breaking up communities. And it doesn’t prevent stacking in the future.

Sorry, but to quote the games name without understanding where it comes from is.. well, Not accurate. That’s the nicest thing I could say.

It’s also why we don’t have organized GvG. If it was truly supposed to be a war of guilds, it would have GvG.

The community line is BS. Free transfers and paid transfers destroyed them long ago. And by limiting transfers / new accounts to lower tiers only, the stacking issue goes away. Especially if you limit the amount of transfers to a trickle.

Again, most people don’t care about the lore. This is about RvR, not lore.

I’m all for organized GvG.

Too many people don’t identify with a guild. Or use two depending on the timezone they are playing in.

But most importantly, what is to stop a server, one who has been very effective at gaming the system, from starting a guild for all of their players, then do you break up a guild?

How do you siding that?

If you don’t identify with a WvW guild then you will be randomly distributed based on WvW time.

Limit WvW guild size. The devs can determine what the optimal size is. I would think 50 players in a WvW guild is plenty.

Again, the game is called Guild Wars. The devs should remember that.

The game is called Guild Wars. So reallocate the guilds evenly across servers.

First create a guild type that is WvW only.

Do not allow people to rep a WvW guild if they are not on the same server. Limit WvW guild sizes, 50 max is probably best. Have everyone choose ahead of the reallocation which WvW guild they want to be their primary. Accounts can only rep 1 WvW guild, but rep other guilds just like before.

Those that don’t choose a primary WvW guild will be reallocated randomly based on the amount of time they spend in WvW. It doesn’t matter what server you are on if you just PvE / PvP. Get rid of world linking. It won’t be needed once the WvW population has been evenly divided.

Then lock all servers except the lowest tiers from transfers. Keep all transfers limited and monitor balance more closely. Allow WvW guilds to apply for transfer as a group, but it must be approved by a dev.

After a small amount of transfers happen, lock the open server and monitor balance before opening again. Also permanently lock tier 1 and 2 servers from new accounts. Make the penalty for transfers at least a month long. Penalties will be no pips or reward track advancement, etc.

It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s fairly simple and it would bring back a semblance of world pride. By locking T1 / T2 servers from transfers and new accounts, gradual attrition will ensure that lower tier servers will eventually move up.

RvR devs for ALL games have to realize that the only way to create a competitive environment is strict transfer and account creation rules. Otherwise the players will destroy balance. That has been proven in EVERY MMO that has any sort of RvR.

Look, the problem with WvW is that it isn’t competitive on a meta level except outside of the game. And there it is easily exploited and abused because the devs don’t have the courage to fix it.

And that is all the dev’s fault. They failed.

Their tech is amazing. If you have the gear it is possible to run 3 screens at 7680×1440 maxed settings and you only really have issues if both full zergs hit each other at the same time. That alone is an incredible achievement.

But the meta game is shallow and pathetic. It’s all about buying guilds to fill up your time slots so that you can dominate with numbers while also fooling the devs (who seem to like to be fooled) into opening up your super stacked server for even more players.

And this has been going on since launch. Really? How sad do you have to be to not realize that your game design sucks after years of the same BS?

ANET wins at the moment because they are the only game in town for this type of RvR. But most serious RvR players quit this junk soon after launch, they saw this pile for what it is.

There are a couple of games coming that might finally address the issues that the ANET devs dont’ seem capable of. If they succeed that’s great and WvW will be a ghost town. If they dont’ then someone else eventually will.

But at this point you can almost guarantee that the ANET devs will never address the most basic flaws in their design. If they haven’t had the courage to do it by now, they never will.

A new engine would be cool, would love to see what their artists could do with the new tech. If they just upgraded GW2’s that would be fine by me, doesn’t need to be a new game. Would take a major investment from them though and probably isn’t cost effective at this time.

They’ll have to build a new engine (or upgrade) eventually, computer tech doesn’t stand still.

GW2 is still the game I always come back to. I complain from time to time, mostly about WvW. But that is because I still care about the game.

WarHammer lasted a long time. I played there for a year. And my guild played there a lot longer than that.

It definitely had the issues you talk about the first few months. But they fixed many of them. But they couldn’t overcome the basic design flaw of 2 faction RvR games. Servers became overstacked with lopsided player counts that destroyed any chance of competition. So players either bandwagoned on to the winning side or quit the game. Usually they quit the game.

GW2 has the tech down, but the game design is seriously lacking. So much so that they have allowed a 3 faction game to become a pointless zerg fest where the server with the most players wins. You really have to screw things up to have that happen in a 3 faction game.

The Black Gate Issue

The Devs allowed this to happen. They even encouraged it at first. Then they were fooled over and over and over again by the players on BlackGate.

I’m not sure why they haven’t addressed this already. Surely they are aware that the players have always taken advantage of the system in every previous RvR game to destroy competitive balance and the game mode overall. That’s why 2 faction RvR games always failed. GW2 is a 3 faction game, so theoretically it should work. DAoC did pretty well. But the Devs designed WvW poorly and allowed the players to take over.

The Devs have to fix this.

Warhammer was much better at this, and it had a screwed up 2 faction system.

At least in Warhammer small groups meant something.

GW2 WvW can be fun in small doses, but it’s a pathetic version of RvR that wins because it’s the only current RvR game in town.

The intro was cool.

The mount is cool.

The mount race was fun.

Deserts are kind of boring.

Putzed around in town a bit. And did a bit of exploring. Map is ok, nothing great. Not much to look at. Didn’t spend a lot of time in beta, don’t want to burn out on it.

Would still prefer to be able to remap the mount keys to what I’m use to. I have a standard setup that I ‘ve used for over a decade in all mmos and most games. It’s based around ESDF, which gives me many more options for action combat.

This has probably been reported already but just in case.

I remap my keys. I use spacebar for other things than jump and use the “c” key for jumping.

Mount jump doesn’t work for me unless I return to the default spacebar setting. Also can’t use the “c” key for tail spin / dismount. Please fix this for release.

Blackgate has most of the “hardcore” WvW players. “Hardcore” equals plays a ton and doesn’t care that they joined the bandwagon server just for easy wins.

ANET allowed this fiasco and even encouraged it at times. And the BandWagon kings who run BlackGate played the ANET devs for fools over and over again just to get more bandwagon players on their server.

Now WvW is a joke.

Deleting worlds and redistributing players is something that has been considered and discussed. In the way described it is not an option that we feel works to solve the complex issue of world population balance. There are many factors involved many that are not immediately obvious without the data we have access to.

You have to admit that everything you have done so far has been a disaster of epic proportions. Just look at BlackGate, are you honestly trying to tell us that bs was intended, or good for the game?

The main problem with WvW is that ANET is addicted to transfer fees.

They turn a blind eye to the problems of overstacked servers and lack of competition just to milk another dollar from people who like to bandwagon.

WvW isn’t competitive because of this basic fact and ANET doesn’t care, as long as you pay for another transfer fee. It’s a sad joke on what could have been the best RvR ever made, but ANET threw it all away chasing pennies while giving up on the gold.

Gamers are very good at figuring out how to exploit systems. That is to be expected. But the devs in this game have never understood that basic truth when it comes to keeping WvW competitive.

BandwagonGate… err BlackGate has destroyed any chance of competition in WvW. And it’s all ANET’s fault for being incredibly blind to the obvious.

No point in doing tournaments as long as the devs keep screwing up and opening up Blackgate to transfers. Years of this stupidity has created a server that is lopsided with WvW only players.

ANET doesn’t know how to truly balance a game and continues to be used by the players who gamed the system into oblivion. ANET’s clueless choices have painted themselves into a corner where the only solution is to break up BandwagonGate.

WvW has no competitive scene anymore. And hasn’t for years.

New Player, Sad Player. Expansion ruined it.

HoT was a disaster. Personally, I didn’t have any issues with soloing and the flying is cool. But the overall design and the grind sucks. GW2 before HoT was a much better game.

GW2’s “identity” was always a mixed bag. AT first they did a pretty good job of keeping the most important aspect of GW1 which was being able to play and have fun without the ugly grind most mmo’s have. But the loss of the trinity wasn’t done well imo.

GW2’s story was never as engaging as GW1’s. GW2’s story is long winded and tedious. The boring cut scenes are an invitation to just skip it. I looked forward to GW1’s cut scenes and story.

The search for skills in GW1 was a great way to pass the time. While in GW2 it’s all handed to you and there isn’t any variation or experimentation in skill sets.

And HoT was a disaster. I loved the zones and flying, but they introduced a grind that is mind numbingly boring. I don’t raid in GW2 so don’t really have any opinion on it other than it’s optional and that is a good thing.

GW2 did a lot very well and I played it a ton over the years. So it’s a success. But I always felt GW1 was a better game (before they nerfed the difficulty). And HoT killed a lot of early GW2’s fun factor.

I haven’t tried it since the new reward track and changes came around but leveling in WvW use to be a ton of fun and very easy.

Low level players used to get buffed quite a bit (probably still do), so even if you only have a couple abilities, you can still be competitive. It would slow down a bit after level 60 or so but was still very doable. I leveled a bunch of my tunes with most of their time in WvW.

Stacking a server and then stacking the pin is all WvW is about. Cheesiest game design ever.

WvW as a whole is in it’s worst state ever. Horrible imbalances have created lopsided victory’s for the Dev’s favorite servers. The Dev’s are just incapable of not falling for the shenanigans of players/servers who have no interest in the health of the game.

It is obvious that the Dev’s attempts to create competitive match ups has failed miserably.
