No. It is designed to be flexible in regards to the player’s choice. It is designed to allow the player to choose and not choose for the player.
With the personal story being as easymode as it is, even for a dumbcluck such as myself, I was shocked at how had dungeons were.
I now consider the story mode to be the tutorial for dungeons. And believe me, if people struggle to be able to comprehend ranged vs melee combat in the tutorial, they’re not going to have it easy at all in dungeons or Fractals.
To me, it seems obvious that the three orders represent the three classes of GW2. Priory for the scholars, Whispers for adventurers, Vigil for the warriors. I decided to buck the system by putting my thief in Priory. I couldn’t really envisage a scholar class in the Vigil though I am sure someone has done this.
Lots of people to whine, only one other person willing to help out others?
+1 JaironKalach, thank you for coming forwards.
If only my motorbike had floats…
And a 5236 km tank range…
Check the top right of the screen. There should be a text in green. That is your personal story’s next stage. If there is no green text, there is a problem!
You weren’t level 8.
Yes, Sir. I was.
All my ranger had done to that point was all the Lion’s Arch POI/Vistas, all the home zones and all of the Ebonhawke ones other than the SP where you battle a lvl 40 Ebon Vanguard. Got one shotted by Lvl40 separatists a couple of times.
Then I went to WvWvW and finished that (with a few deaths and lots of narrow squeaks!).
Oh, actually I did the same with a level 5 back then. Am I not awesome!!!!
I’m jelly
(edited by GuzziHero.2467)
I took an lvl 8 into wvwvw and got all the POI/vistas/SPs (did get help on the Skritt SP in fairness, from a rival server player!) and came out lvl 11.
Yes, its a challenge. Games are intended to be a challenge.
I have had an idea. Why not make a thread for people to post in if they are willing to take the time to help others with the personal story? It is probably easy for someone like myself who has 2 maxed characters to say it is too easy, and not understand why others are struggling… I am not in their shoes.

Phew. Sorry about the misunderstanding. Now I get it. I thought you meant it had physically uplevelled!
Sorry if it felt like I was doubting or criticising you.
If you happen to be on Dragonbrand, I would be more than willing to help you (or anyone) through any PS missions.
But Guardians can take on all the mobs and come out just peachy. Seems a little unfair that it is ok for one class, but not ok for another class for some inadequately explained reason other than simply stating up front that the mobs are unrealistically strong and your character unrealistically weak.
These are undead we are talking about. Undead have extremely weak bodies because they are undergoing decay. A shamble is probably more than an undead should be able to handle, never mind swinging a sword that would cause the undead’s arms to fall off.
Well since they were all sunk in saltwater for some time, most of them would be little more than scattered bones but… dragon magic glue. Don’t even ask where Zhaitan’s dragon magic glue comes from…
I would deeply love an opening screen that showed all my characters in a group, clickable to choose which I wanted to use. A little like the new character generation screen where you choose race.
You misunderstood my response, my fault Guzzi for not explaining myself more clearly.

I tried to do the mission at it’s correct lvl – I was at the same level – in this case lvl 14, I failed miserably, probably because I’m not very good I thought . In order to complete it I followed the advice to wait for a couple of levels then go back and try again. I was distracted for 10 levels then went back to try again. I found that the mission which was level 14 the last time I did it had upped to lvl 23, I was 24 at this time, so all I had gained by waiting was one level. I still could not do it – so the advice to wait a few levels didn’t help at all. Even though my powers, armour and weapons were bang up-to-date. At this point I accepted defeat and gave up.
Ah, I see.
How very odd, story missions should not up-level themselves! I don’t suppose you know the name of the story or what it was about? I wouldn’t mind looking into this a little deeper.
Man At Arms were skilled weapon users, but also noblemen. They were cavalry, with troops to do most of their work. Cavalry are support, as in that they support foot troops.
Even in the modern terminology, Air Cavalry are mounted soldiers to support ground forces.
What is lol-able about such terminology?
I had the idea of a 9th Class, but calling it Man-At-Arms. Men At Arms were generally professional soldiers, as opposed to the commoner jack wearers.
The concept would be mainly support, summoning weapons for others in the team to use, quick rallying and healing for self and others (as if he was inspiring his troops) and summoning minions for attack and defence.
After all, rangers have pets and thieves have Theifs Guild/Ambush, necros have minions and summonings… this would give Heavy a summoning/distraction class to match.
Your class related skill would be ‘Battle Orders’. F1 for Assault (more power, less vitality), F2 for Defence (less power, more vitality), F3 for Arquebsuiers (ranged attack, weakish defence) and F4 for Field Medics (guess what…). These would control what your summoned troops would be best at.
Say you are on F3 Battle Order and you use, probably, an elite skill. The skill would drop 3 rifles for your team mates to use, to allow them ranged skills where they might not have them. If on F2, they would get a temporary vit boost… etc. See where I’m going?

Make sure your gear (weapons, armor, jewellery if poss) are somewhere close to the story mission level.
Supasilvafoxy – the only way the mission would level up to one below your own level after gaining ten, is if you were 9 below the requirement in the first place.
EG – lvl 50 trying lvl 59 mission. Your lvl shows as 50. You lvl to 60, suddenly it is one below your level. But your equipment, if not upgraded is still 50 or maybe less…
If you are lower than the recommended level for that mission, you should get a warning banner. You can probably beat a mission 5 above your own, with difficulty, but 9 is a bit much.
Personally, I think the level marker in the bottom left should tell you what area lvl you are in, even if you are below that level. Would stop a lot of complaining about being buttwhupped!
Well personally I got this for about 12 times, remembered ISP each time, and now it never occurs.
Just keep remembering. Sooner or later they’ll go away.
I’m a bit bored of my warrior wearing armour ALL the kitten time. Not much opportunity for town clothes out in the field.
Just once, though, I’d like her to wear something useful that doesn’t look like a knight of the round table!
So many people thinking their own names are the funniest or most creative. So many people being wrong…
Non-Brits mayyyy not get this one, but one name that amused me earlier was Chip McCain.
+1000 to the OP if I could…
I get complained at because I am complaining about the complainers.
You don’t want to grind for exotic/legendary items? You don’t have to.
Don’t want to complete the (easy IMO) personal story? You don’t have to.
Hate doing Fractals? You don’t have to.
Can’t survive Southsun Cove? You don’t have to.
Haven’t been able to complete a jumping puzzle? You don’t have to.
There’s a pattern. You don’t have to do diddly in this game if you don’t want to. Personally, I don’t have the patience to grind for legendaries or even to start crafting. Guess what? I don’t have to.
So much option and scope in this game. You can pick and choose what content you want to participate in. But vice-versa, don’t rush to do it all… then complain there’s nothing left to do!
I really want to know what a flower bucket sounds like.
I had my ear in a large pot of rex begonias and all I got was a lughole full of soil.
Edit:
Dear god, don’t try it with miniature cactii. Ambulance is on the way…
(edited by GuzziHero.2467)
Theyre a quick way to level, and pretty easy too. I don’t see why anyone with all 10 fingers and a brain struggles.
Mind you, I do use a 6-squillion button mouse so I can attack/activate skills while moving.
Dragonbrand, for sure. Lots of friendly and helpful players. I am always typing stuff on map chat and almost always find someone to have a friendly dialogue with.
Why don’t they make bosses that teach you to have a well-rounded character for both ranged and melee combat?
It’s like saying… “There’s a 9ft tall zombie with blades for arms and a bomb strapped to its head. We have a rifle, and a shovel. I bagsie the shovel!”. You don’t want to run up to the Big Bad and kick him in the nuts! You ace that sucker from as long a range as you dare :p
Especially as it was clearly posted with the intent of making me look like a sexist. This was probably intended to direct backlash towards myself and inflating his/her ego when people turned on me.
As an asexual, I don’t care at all about gender roles or ‘tags’. As I am an egalitarian, and anarchist, he/she could not be more wrong.
Might just do that. I’ll report back what happens.
Edit:
Got 25 with one weapon set, switched to the other… nada. Nothing. Nowt. Stayed at 25.
Each kill only netted one even if I swapped weapon mid enemy.
(edited by GuzziHero.2467)
If I have a Bloodlust on, say, sword… and Perception on hammer… can I build 25 bloodlust on one, switch weapon sets, and build 25 perception on the other?
I would honestly kill to see a cheongsam-like town dress…
Hiroki of the Vigil. Or the female thief from Thief’s Guild
I got bored of mesmer at 40 and deleted it. Maybe I should have carried on.
I just didn’t like the animations or concept of using a weapon as a focus, not a whacking stick!
SPOILERS AHEAD
blinkblink ALITD isn’t even difficult if you have any kind of ranged weapon and are prepared to back off rather than facetank.
Hints:
In the large fight, don’t be afraid to back off. Your allies are constantly replenished so the enemies never get chance to heal. Ignore grubs until after the giants and aboms are down.
Next, Eye of Zhaitan. There are 2 conveniently large pillars to hide behind. He starts to give you the death ray glare (UUUUULAAAAAAA!), get behind one.
Last boss… just keep dodging and circle strafing. He goes down easier than the giant/abom fight.
I did this at lvl 50 with lvl 50 green gear/yellow longbow. Just take ranged and it’s a cinch.
Thief is a very close quarters class. The shotbow has bugger all range and feels so weak, I don’t even bother with it.
Ranger sounds the best fit. I was lvl 45 before I touched any weapon other than LB and SB, plus your pet can distract enemies for you. LB #5 runs a cripple condition and Hyena pets have a great combo of cripple and calling ally. Stops your WvWvW enemies running away so quickly.
I’d offer my vocal services for free to Anet, but I wonder if many outside the UK would understand a Potteries accent!
“Ow art, duck? Yart awreet?”
To be honest, the voice acting doesn’t bother me at all. Younger players (aka kids) are likely to play this and I expected slow dialogues to make it easier for them (and to read the texts).
Right, I think I will have a try at this. Human street rat story, level about 9 isn’t it?
Largos
Centaur
Fuchikoma… I mean Karka.
I think my favourite dialogue is between the Sylvari and Asura by the LA gate in The Grove.
Sylvari: Your golem is strange… was strange.
Asura: You drove it away, you know that!? I’ve never seen a golem run that fast.
Sylvari: I just wanted to ask it a few questions.
Asura: Yeah I know. you guys are full of them.
Sylvari: Oh, yes. What’s it like to be a golem? Does it dream? Does it have a family?
Asura: That was the last straw, you know. After that question about turtles in the desert you asked it about its mother.
Sylvari: So?
Asura: It doesn’t have a mother. It’s a golem. you crossed its circuits. I don’t know how you did it, but you weirded out MY golem.
Sylvari: So, you are the mother? Or the father?
Asura: What? Well, I… I guess I .. Oh no. you’re not getting in my head. You just stand there and help me monitor the gate.
Asura (to himself): Am I the mother? Blazing braces, this is what I get for working with the tree children.

Anyone who has ever seen Bladerunner should get the reference!
My least fave audio is not for what is said but the repetition…
“No, no no! The Armoury’s the other way”…
I personally maxed a thief first… tried mesmer and got bored of it.
Thief seems to have a lot more versatility, and the clones of the mesmer do not seem to have the durability or the AI of, say, the ranger’s pets. In dungeons, I am indeed very front line, and the thief excels at this as long as one can move about plenty because you are a little squishy.
PVE, the thief is by far the easiest character I have played.
Drat. Solves my query though!
Thanks!
I tried recording with FRAPS (d/l version, not paid for) and I found it would only record between 19-28s at a time. Is this because it’s the free edition? If not, any idea what could be causing it?
I went with full pow/pre/crit dam and ended up dying… constantly.
Switched to Draconic armour with pow/prec/tough and it’s a world apart. I don’t lose any prec and my survivability is ten times what it was (or seems so!). Bad part of this, is that the entire set cost just over 22G.
Also, Superior Runes of the Dolyak on your clothing help a ton.
I think they should have made a ‘heroic last stand’ dialogue so that as you stand by the gate you hear him go down fighting. Similar to Hicks’ death in Aliens…
“Oh you want some a-this do ya? You too? Come get some, I got enough for all of ya…. AIEEEEEE” sort of thing.
Would have made a good moment great.
For the sake of completeness, the OP was attacked, possibly as part of his storyline, and quickly killed. His response was to say he is never playing that particular character again, and had to be persuaded by his partner not to delete it immediately!
If ‘emotional reaction’ is to snatch one’s ball and go home at the first sense of unfairness, maybe the OP isn’t mature enough to handle this game/forum.
I will pay 4000 gems for a Charr warbike…
Holy mother of god.
Someone who will abandon a character because of what is either a game bug or some (admittedly daft) plot action?
How old are you? 12? Did you ever refuse to attend a school because someone stole your marbles? That is the type of infantile whinging that this amounts to.
Grow up.
Oh. I stand (or sit) corrected! Must have mis-read something on the wiki.
I really don’t understand this thread at all.
Done human on both guardian and thief without issues. Granted it was easier on guardian, i mean what isn’t, but everything went pretty smooth on thief as well.
Players need to change their playstyle, build, and/or gear if they’re having issues.
This times 100.
I tried “An Early Parole” which is lvl 53 using an lvl 50 character, lvl 45-46 weapons. Failed twice. Brought my weapons up to lvl 50, walked it.
Then played A Light In The Darkness (lvl 55) using an all lvl 50 character and lvl 50 rare weapons. Walked it.
This thread makes me wonder how bloody awful some of these players must be, seriously. If you have the motor skills and intelligence to post a coherant sentence in this thread, you really shouldn’t have issues with the PS.
(edited by GuzziHero.2467)
Well… that failed. I downloaded FRAPS but for some reason it wouldn’t capture more than 28 seconds at a time. Probably because I haven’t paid for it.
What I wanted to do was tape myself playing a lvl 55 mission (“A Light In The Darkness”) with an lvl 50 character. No particular build, just going for it.
I finished it first time, downed twice but never killed. Got the gate guardian without my ranger pet even dying once.
And I am a self-confessed asperger’s sufferer. No eye hand coord, slow reactions, not very quick witted.
Seriously, if you can’t finish the PS in this game you are doing something SERIOUSLY wrong.
Another reason to dislike Trahearne… in the ‘An Early Parole’ story, all that useless **** does is aggro enemies for you…
I’d multibox them…
You got The Steel Tide if you joined the Vigil.
Otherwise you would have gotten Ships Of The Line (Priory) or Blast From The Past (Whispers) with the same reward.
You must have sold the reward?
