Rollback on changes ETA?

I’m sure A.Net has noticed all the crying on the forums. There is a good reason they use broad-based metrics and focal groups to evaluate changes; there will always be some subset of players who will complain about anything and those players will always be doing so on the forums.

It’s not even remotely representative of the player base as a whole.

Metrics aren’t the problem, incomplete metrics are. They’ve developed the changes to the leveling system based on metrics dealing with players who’ve left GW2. They’ve completely ignored what the people who are still playing want.

Sword + Axe and GS. Warhorn for passive damage in parties.

Currently the GS is out for for the LB for max dps.

I bet it’s awesome cleave really outdps’ the GS.

Are there any bosses you can cleave (except the tree in TA)?

The camera “fix” was actually suggested by players for norn and charrs.
Looks like ANet still doesn’t know the term “optional”.

I actually habe to remedy my statement. If you go to the option panel, there is a slider which moves your camera to the left or right of your character.
Yay for #OptionalChanges!

Why the current sword needs polishing

Something to keep the people whining about the sword because they suck and can’t be bothered to learn the encounters to anticipate when you need to use a dodge to use something else and leave the sword I like well enough alone.

Please, don’t expect from others to only speak for themselves if you don’t even do that.
I’ve learned all encounters in PvE. Not to that extent that I can solo everything but good enough to not go down in dungeons or fractals.
And I kittening hate the sword AA. Why should I learn all encounters a second time, just to make something broken work?

Reread my post. I was speaking for myself.

And how would you have to relearn the encounters? If you already know them… you already know them. Not sure why you have to learn them a second time. It’s not like their attacks and tells have changed.

You said people whine about the sword because they suck. So you claim to know why others don’t like the AA. The sword plays very differently from all other weapons. You can’t dodge at any time, you have to try to expect the attacks of the enemy way sooner then you would have to with other weapons. Not to mention that you can’t cleave or position yourself properly.

Is not so much their rapid fire, but their stupidly strong autoattack. All long, medium, and short range, they are all too strong. Im not too opposed to keeping the long range damage “similar” to what it was before, but the medium and short range needed no buff. They should have stayed the same or have been nerfed actually.

There is no reason for autoattacks on any class to hit 2-3k on average. Thats broken. Especially for a skill that is an autoattack and fires so fast.

Lololololol… lol… lolololol. LOL.
Did I mention lol?
The AA gets weaker as closer you are to the ranger. Simply run towards him… shouldn’t be that hard. If you are 600 units away from or closer the AA wont even deal half the damage…

The autoattack hits like a truck at every distance, and it shouldn’t.

I die because:
(1) A herd of players runs over me
(2) A good player forces me to use dodges and defensive cooldowns … and then hits me with what he really wanted to hit me with.
(3) I waste dodge/defensive cooldowns and get punished for it when something big hits me.

I don’t die because some player presses #2 while using a Ranger longbow.

This exactly. You die because 5 rangers pewpew you? Suck it up, you would’ve died to 5 players anyway, no matter what professions they use. The only difference is that those 5 players don’t have to run up to you.

Misconceptions regarding Level gating.

HHR LostProphet.4801

EvE works awesome without levels.

But I don’t play EvE Online, and haven’t checked it out so I don’t speak for how it is or is not awesome. I hope you can appreciate that.

The last MMO I played with no levels was Ultima Online, which incidentally is the last game before GW2 where crafting was more fun . . . primarily due to needing it for furnishing that awesome stone tower you bought.

Also, if there were no levels crafting would be much much more awesome, remember before they introduced ascended most mats were worthless? Thats direct impact of levels and tiers, now imagine if whole crafting was based on that principle. Just one of the benefits.

Indeed, I can imagine a lot of things if it were different. Such as if there was a different look to each tier of basic gear you could craft so your appearance could be affected. (They got halfway there and stopped – probably due to the artists not having time or energy to try designing 9-12 different craftable armors for each class in addition to all the others out there.)

Levels just arbitrairly gate some things, and if you absolutely want to gate some things it can be done in so many different ways. Levels are just 1 and far from best (unless you presume players have been conditioned to having to see bigger and bigger numbers for sake of bigger numbers)

Levels . . . hmm. I’m sorry, I can’t agree with this. Once you decide you want levels, there is a certain amount of stress which gets removed about how to structure things. There is not always anything “arbitrary” about how it gets structured.

In addition to that, the exsistence of traiding is ruining any non-level approach.
You could simply buy the strongest armor from the get-go.
Not to say that I’m against the idea, it’s just not possible in GW2.

Ranger Rapid Fire is OP . . why. . .

in Profession Balance

Posted by: HHR LostProphet.4801

HHR LostProphet.4801

I will say this very simple . . .

It feels OP because it has range.

Backstab, 100b, Ranger 2hW, and other melee skills (that could compete with rapid fire damage) when used, you expose your self in the middle of the battle and take a lot of damage from all the AOE and kitten in the moment.

With Rapid Fire you can just stay out of the fight kill fast and move away to be safe.

I see a lot of rangers trying to defend the buff saying that you can evade . . . come on guys in the middle of a fight evades are very limited . . . you are telling me that i should save all my evades waiting for a ranger to attack me?

You know why it’s not OP? Because it has range. Everytime a ranger uses RF from afar you have time to notice that and evade. You have no warning before you get hit by a backstab.

Proposal Overview
Achievements and Monthlies for Guilds

Goal of Proposal
Encourage playing with guildmates and give guilds a reason to exsist outsite of guild missions.

Proposal Functionality
There should be achievements and monthlies that can be done by guilds.
Those should not require guild missions and shouldn’t favor large guilds too much.
There should be however a minial number of people required participating (5 maybe) to complete the quests. The size of each quest should be larger based on the number of active guildmembers.
Examples
“complete X eventchains”, “secure X area (do all events in that area atleast once)”, “press X buttons on different places simultaneously (not as hard as guild trek)”, “capture and claim X objectives in WvW/EotM”, “hold X objective atleast for Y hours in WvW/EotM”, “win atleast one GvG”, “perform an epic dance battle vs. another guild”, “commit mass suicide (all have to jump off a cliff because… why not?)

Associated Risks
Errr… Some achievement grinder will be sad probably.

Rollback on changes ETA?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: HHR LostProphet.4801

HHR LostProphet.4801

LOL at those that think a rollback is even something they would consider….I note how successful the #SABorRIOT movement was….. GG.

They did this to consolidate code between versions of the game….they are NOT going back on that main goal (as imperfect as the results may be).

ANet already knows when the SAB comes back and what will be new then. They wont throw everything overboard just to please the players. Not to mention that there were misinterpretations on the players part.
This change however was not meant to hinder the old players so much than it actaully does and they certainly haven’t expected that backclash.
ANet has to ask the question wherever they want to lose players that already played the game but got annoyed by the changes or if they want to lose potential players that don’t get the way GW2 plays.

You know how we can better discuss the patch? By people being more engaging about what they don’t like and how they feel it doesn’t work rather than parroting “it sucks, fix it”. Or trying to solidify the forum meme of “I could X but I haven’t unlocked it yet”.

It’s incredibly more useful to developers to see someone putting the time to explain why rather than just “i’m dissatisfied”.

Ok, I’ll give it a shot:

Personal Story
One thing I always hated about the Living Story was that it feels like timewarping every two weeks. The Personal Story on the other hand was able to win me over because I could decide when I want to drive my story forward. Now that is gone, now the story comes streamlined and packaged in small bits every time I level 10 levels.
The biggest gripe I have with the new system was that the old system was almost perfectly fine and could’ve been made perfect with just small changes. There is no need to “protect” the player from the story.
And if the rumors are correct, then they’ve cutted out part of the story and rearanged other parts, so they don’t even make sense anymore…

Weapon skills
Same as the Personal Story, I think that the old system was perfectly fine. You unlocked the skills by using the weapon, not by leveling your character.
The old system made more sense, was intuitive and gave us the possibility to use more skills quicker.

Level-up bounty
I really dislike the way they are going with this. They’re locking things we had previously to give them us back later as “reward”. They cut the maps in order to do so and the loot they give for leveling up gives the player a false pretence of how the game is meant to be played. They think that the game centers around getting your character as fast as possible to level 80, when in fact the game should encourage you to explore. Again the old system did this just fine.

Simplified maps
Some key parts about every map gets locked away until you reach a certain level. Skill point challenges, vistas, gathering nodes and goods the heart vendors have to offer.
This again gives the player a false pretence about how the game is meant to be played.

Learning curve
All this changes where introduced to flatten out the learning curve. Someone obviously thinks that a new player is most likely overwhelmed by the game if he first starts. There would be a sight better way to introduce new players to the game:
Tooltips. Lots of them. As example, the downstate shouldn’t be locked until level 5 but should be explained before the player can be downed the first time. There should be a tooltip what the downstate is and what the 4 skills do. The evade mechanic should be explained with tooltips, the map completion should be explained with tooltips, the gathering should be explained with tooltips, everything should be explained with tooltips. And the best part about tooltips: They would be optional.

The reason for all these changes?
In my opinion, ANet aims for getting this game eC or E rated to attract new players.
This would also explain why new Sylvari aren’t naked anymore when they leave the Dream. Young children could obviously get the wrong message…

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: HHR LostProphet.4801

HHR LostProphet.4801

Correct me if I’m wrong… But people are saying that you can’t dodge with low level characters anymore. Is this ACTUALLY true?

This is incorrect, you should be able to absolutely dodge at any level.

Thanks!

That shouldn’t be the case, honestly. Just think about a new player that could press 1 and dodge at the same time. He would be going mad considering the decisions he would have to make. The mere thought of this decision the player has to face up to is ridiculous, isn’t (boobs) it?

Edit: lol boobs doesn’t get censored but isn’t – it gets? Like I said, it’s ridiculous.

Learning Curve

HHR LostProphet.4801

I will be testing this out tonight. i will really want to see how fast the 1-15 leveling is now, but I also want to honestly ask these questions of Anet and I want straight forward answers to each bullet point. Not rhetoric or some company line.

1- How does slowing down skill progression thus teach new players about fields and combos?

2- Will there also be tutorials for Necro shroud skills, underwater combat, ranger pets, Engie Toolbelts, Ele conjured weapons, Engie kits? If not, why?

3- Once a new player reaches level 10 (and say only has their first weapons) and they get a new one (with all the skills now unlocked) how does that teach the new player how to suddenly use 5 new skills they never practiced with? Specifically how does this not fly in the face of the very reasons you’ve stated in these forums for that slowed skill progression.

4- How does slowing Utility acquisition until almost half way through the leveling experience benefit a player in areas that less utilities means higher chance of death? Were those higher areas also made easier to accommodate this change?

I honestly would like to know the answers to these questions.

1- Slower progression keeps players longer playing. That’s the plan.
2- Don’t expect something ANet implements to work fluently from the beginning.
3- See 2.
4- See 1.

Of course the forums are an important part of the community’s feelings(I never said it wasn’t) but neither of us can just assume a majority of the players like or dislike the new update.

Yes, there are forum posts and people ingame saying they dislike the update, but unless you have actual numbers, none of us really knows what most people think.

This doesn’t “do anything” to me. I’m not sure why you think it could. Let’s see, a guy with a nice voice, who is dripping with sarcasm tries to make a patch look stupid with opinions. I’m not quite through with it yet, but at least some of it I have to question immediately. Like not being able to die in the tutorial instance. That’s not knew because I’ve known about that for like a year. Except that the video is attributing it to this patch. So, if you don’t have your facts correct to start with, why should I believe the rest of it?

The reason I think they did that is because there are no waypoints in the tutorial, btw.

All this does is show me a guy who doesn’t get it.

To be sure not every single change is going to be perfect. I don’t think that the elite needs to be held off until 40, but the truth is, it makes very very little difference in the game to me. Very little.

But all the little things I’m getting while getting up to forty make a quite nice difference in the game for me.

So what made you think that video would affect me at all?

I could render opinions as facts too, if I wanted to…but it doesn’t make them facts. I don’t think the patch is stupid. But that’s just my opinion. You’re entitled to yours.

So, opinions you say…

I’m convinced the sense of progression and it is a sense of progression is better than how it was, and I’m convinced long term it’ll probably be better for most players, even though at the beginning, it definitely won’t feel that way to everyone. Because people get used to A and think they A is how it has to be.

The difference is, there’s no indication that having it brought in would actually affect your play style at all. It would improve the experience of the players who buy it, but not even anet, who has made some questionable decisions, would think that suddenly screwing over the majority of the player base by making it harder for you. They’re not going to introduce restrictions to your 2 year old account.

What play style? You pay only to pay less for other things. This game is regressing, it would be either paying for the stuff they add or “working” until you got enough gold to buy the stuff. That is not playing, that is not fun.

I don’t really understand why people care about it. If you don’t want the perks …. don’t pay for it? I don’t know. If there’s something on the store I don’t care for, I don’t buy it. I don’t complain and say “I’m leaving the game because you introduced optional items that I don’t want!”

I’m not trying to be a jerk or anything. I just really want to know how this affects people so much.

It’s a matter of how you want to support the game. If they would ask me for money to create new content, I would atleast dumb 10€ per month into the game, only asking for them to keep their promises. If they want me to buy something from the gemstore,or even ay for VIP status, then no, I’ll never gonna do that. I’m not supporting such bold strategy to fund their game.

Okay but how does having a VIP status that you don’t want affect you in any way?

It affects them. ArenaNet is already heavily favoring the gem store. There is no update to the game whithout the gem store getting a piece from that pie. I don’t want to support that, I want the opposite. If we compare the skins added to the regular game and the skins added behind a paywall, we all know which has gotten more skins.

It’s a matter of how you want to support the game. If they would ask me for money to create new content, I would atleast dumb 10€ per month into the game, only asking for them to keep their promises. If they want me to buy something from the gemstore, or even pay for VIP status, then no, I’ll never gonna do that. I’m not supporting such bold strategy to fund their game.

@ Vayne:
I’m sorry, but I have to do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-On3Ya0_4Y
That is what you are defending.

(It’s not my video, I just found it on reddit and it might show… some problems with the new system)

Nah, you have to be attacking.

The standard complaints about this game usually involve the open world being way too easy. It’s much easier with everything unlocked. But you can still pretty much 1 your way through everything if that’s what you want to do and you know how to kite.

Breaking News: All weapon skill get removed to make the game more challenging!
Seriously, that’s a stupid answer. Making the game more challenging by cutting the ability of the player to react properly to certain situations?

I don’t like the change. Because of that blueish glow I can’t spot which rarity the items have.

I really don’t get the points you mentioned. Back in the days, levelups gave one traitpoint each, but it was changed. They can give me additional reward, I don’t mind if they do. But locking already existing features only to give tham back later as oh so wonderful stuff is stupid.
And you say that people who try the game during free weekends could get confused?
I for one would not play the game if I have to sacrifice a whole day of this weekend only to get all the basic things the game offers.
I would create a new character and see 5 possible weapon skills but only one that I can use. The whole first instance I’m sitting there pressing 1. That would make me uninstall the game immediately.

Oh... my ... Wow! Great Job Anet!

I just made a new char to check this out. Human. I can say that I am sure this is as the OP says. The scene seems longer, a bit different and not only that they seem to have added scenes to reflect which PS (lvl 10) you have chosen.

I chose the common (key farmers friend :P) and they added an extra scene that I have not seen before. After this guy I’m gonna check all races with all the different PS lvl 10 options just to see all the new scenes – enjoy everyone!

Did you ever watched the cutscene before? Because I did and I’ve seen nothing that I haven’t seen before.
