"Fixed" Monk Outfit - Updated July 28th

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

Yes, my female human looks pretty “hippy” now.

It’s strange… the Ancestral Outfit (the very first outfit introduced after they killed Town Clothes) still clips with my body style to this day. It has never been addressed, and the dress clips through the sash at the hips. But I never noticed any clipping on my body style with the new Monk Outfit. I was happy with it until the “fix”.

This is the first and only Outfit I have ever purchased since the removal of Town Clothes from the game, and now it looks as if they’re going to make me ask for a refund. Thpppt!

White Feather Wings Backpack

It’s amusing that people are complaining about wing animations on a single back item when there are basic player animations that have been broken for 7-8 months that they refuse to address.

Yeah. I used to champion that cause. But I am rapidly getting to the point where I just don’t care about this game anymore. Guild Wars has been a large part of my recreation time since the Prophecies Betas, but with GW2 they have pretty consistently been making things worse with every patch (in my humble opinion), and apathy has set in.

I am gradually finding other things to do, and am weaning myself off of this game. I don’t see them going in a direction that would encourage me to hang in there. We’ll see. Maybe they’ll surprise me and give us something I really like. But I’m not holding my breath. (It’s kinda like Game of Thrones around here… the things you like the most are the ones most likely to be killed off).

I previewed them and I also noticed the weird floppiness before I saw your post. I would likewise be upset if I owned the black ones and logged in to see what had been done to them.

Fortunately for me, I don’t care for either set. While I would like to see a nice pair of wings in the game, the black (and now white) ones look “mussed” or “ragged”. Like a bird that had just been in a fight and it’s feathers were all askew.

For the sake of those of you who owned the black ones already, I hope they listen and do a hotfix for you to stiffen them up again.

Want to pay less for Heart of Thorns?

Then simply wait!

The price will come down. It always does. Then the people who paid the full original asking price will be here on the forums complaining that they wouldn’t have paid so much if they had realized the price was going to drop.

Or you could ask for the expansion for your birthday, or a Holiday gift. Then it’ll cost you ZERO.

But the BEST part of this idea? Let the OTHER guys deal with all the bugs! Maybe it will be halfway playable by the time you finally get it!

Alternate Ways To Get Ascended.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

I’m not talking about me burning out since I straight up I refuse to craft. It is boring to me and just like there are people who won’t step foot into a PvP arena; I will not craft. I tried it and I hated it.

I’m just saying there should be other ways of getting the gear. If there were I’d be logged on right now doing it to get ready for HoT. Since there is not I wear exotic armor and use exotic weapons only logging in to RP with my guild while I wait for the expansion. If for any reason A-Net forces ascended gear on me without another way of obtaining it I will move on to other games.

It just really seems silly that crafting is the only way to get BiS gear. One way of getting sure? The easiest way of getting it? Awesome. But the only way? dumb.

I’m in 100% agreement, Banono. I also despise crafting, but would dearly love that “not really necessary” Ascended bonus. It should be able to be sold on the TP. That way crafters can earn money from non-crafters, and non-crafters can finally have Ascended armor and weapons.

Ascended Gear: A modest proposal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hamfast.8719

I have too many Alts and too many sets of armor for an increased gap between Exotics and Ascendeds. (Plus I don’t craft, and that’s the only feasible way to get Ascended armor and weapons at the moment). So I would be all for something like the OP suggests. That, or reduce the expense and time-gating restrictions on Ascended stuff, and let people sell them on the TP. The Crafters could get money from the non-Crafters, who would be delighted in turn to finally have a source for Ascended armor and weapons.

We don’t want you to lose your ghost sounds or any others. In fact, we want them all RESTORED to their original specs.

What we want is to not have to hear OTHER PEOPLES’ minis.

And yes, I am still astonished about what creatures can and can’t swim in this world. Felines rival Jaques Cousteau, but canines can’t even dog paddle.

Suggestion: Royal Terrace & Airship Kick-out

A similar request would apply to the Captain’s Airship, although the kick out is not quite as irritating as for the Royal Terrace.

No, the Airship pass is even MORE irritating, because you have to endure an entire additional loading screen: one for initially logging in, and then ANOTHER to send you down to Gendarran Fields the instant you appear on the airship.

Being swept out onto my backside by the Royal Terrace bouncer might become less amusing over time, but at least it’s all over in a second or two.

These 2 minis are the worst though and i wish, really really wish the audio team would take note and try to imagine hearing those minis all day long.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mini_Super_Banana

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mini_Spooky_Ghost

They already nerfed the Spooky Ghost. He makes his sounds way less often than he used to.

I like the noises my Princess Doll makes.

I love mine too… which is why it upset me so much when they removed some of her sounds too. (The plaintive scream when you jump off a cliff or otherwise leave her behind).

Most of my Golems have lost their sound effects as well. They used to have nice “clunk-clunk!” footstep sounds, and made beeping and booping noises. Now they are all but silent.

The only FAIR way to deal with mini pet sounds is to have options:

  • Hear all mini pet sounds
  • Hear only your own mini pet sounds
  • Hear no mini pet sounds

Please institute this, and then restore all the sound effects that have been taken away!

Next step: do something about that SUPER ANNOYING golem backpack!

I can't believe Tequatl can fly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

I saw this on an old “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” when I was a kid. Marlin Perkins discussed it in detail. It is quite simple, and believable.

Tequatl MOSTLY swims. She has no “true” flight. Her ability to go briefly airborne results primarily through the consumption of floating rocks such as those found at Morgan’s Spiral. The tattered wings serve well enough for guidance. The Vigil Megalaser does not damage Tequatl, but it temporarily negates the effects of the rocks, bringing her down.

Ahh, the magic of nature!

NPCs calling Divinity's Reach "DR"...

Despite the discussion about the use of DR. I seem to be bothered by the use of the term “repetitive” in the caption. For the life of me, I can’t see what’s repetitive. Anyone care to enlighten?

If you actually go there, he is repetitive. The NPC spouts this phrase pretty often. Or maybe it just SEEMS often, since you are usually standing there at the Bank for an extended period. It’s just as if you are standing at the bank in DR/Divinity’s Reach and hear the NPC say “I’m rich, you know” multiple times. But if the audio clip is something that grates on your nerves, it is going to seem even more repetitive.

Do you have any idea how many people who live in NYC have never been to the Statue of Liberty? They don’t think about NY as being the melting pot, or the gateway to America, they think about the fact that rents are too high and they work too many hours.

Ahh! I know it isn’t the point you are making, but “NYC” and “NY” are a couple of good examples. You see them in print like that all the time, but I can’t recall ever hearing anyone saying “NY” or “NYC” aloud. It’s always “New York” and “New York City”.

Fix the Installer before HoT!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

For many people, game updates have been on the verge of impossible for a long time now. (Since around the time of the Halloween update for me. I never had an issue before then). Downloads get slower and slower and slower until eventually they stop. Sometimes they start up again on their own, other times not.

The best workaround I have been able to manage is to use my Task Manager to close the frozen program, and restart again after a minute or two of “rest”. This generally eeks out another few KB. Often, I just say to Hell with it, and let it sit overnight or while I’m at work.

There is absolutely NO WAY I will purchase a download version of HoT unless they fix this first. It would never finish downloading. It had better be available on a DvD in stores.

Please do not try to diagnose the problem as if it is on my end. It is not. Many other players have the same or similar experiences. I have no connection or downloading issues with anything except GW2 updates. The problem is on their end, and it needs to be resolved.

(Sigh… it looks like I missed Tequatl again tonight waiting on this most recent little update. 45 minutes and counting so far).

An enterprising poster found this for me:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lwd/Default-Character-Animations-Spoil-It-All/first#post4402717

It is supposedly the original thread that resulted in removal of the “fidget” animations from all the human females.

The thread has 34 entries. By my count, only FOUR people outright said the animations were “jarring” or “immersion breaking”. Much of the other talk covers other actions that seem inappropriate at certain times (i.e. a cheery “Hello!” or something like that if you speak with NPCs at a tragic scene. You toon saying “You can never have too much treasure” when you collect your reward at a time when you’re supposed to be crying your eyes out.) Overall, the complaints are mostly about the NPCs, not the players toons.

Even the OP didn’t call for outright removal of the animations from all characters. He suggested the addition of some “neutral” animations that could be used instead during those situations.

So there ya go. A thread with 34 posts vs. all the threads that want the animations restored. (Including the topic in the BUGS forum which at this time is up to 301 posts).

A small post, with a minor issue taken way out of context. PLEASE, ANet. Restoration is long overdue.

As my altered subject line states; could someone PLEASE address this situation and let us know what is going on?

Bring back the animations! ’Nuff said.

I think the true reason was that some people saw the animations as “sensuous” (because of course a woman cannot stretch her arms without having the goal to show off her breasts, no, we need all women to keep her arms below the waist at all times), and so ArenaNet removed them in order to cater to the overly conservative and misogynist players.

It’s a shame, but isn’t the first time ArenaNet makes the game worse in order to cater to the lowest denominator.

Guild Wars 2 was given a T for “Teen” rating from the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB). This means “content is generally suitable for ages 13 and up. May contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling and/or infrequent use of strong language.”

Sensuality of this nature is well within their game age rating. Nothing wrong with it being included here.

Of course they may be trying to expand their player base by getting the rating lowered. The “dumbing down” of the game will soon make it suitable for an EC rating (Early Childhood).

Well my mini pets are still in the cut scenes. Boy, they are really making it hard to stay immersed in the story! If only I could… I dunno, kick a little dirt over them or something? Look away from them up into the sky? Or is that stretching things? No! Noooooo! I’m brushing the hair away from my eyes so I can see the offending minis better!

Seriously… I take a lot of screen caps. Using my Wayback Machine, I looked at the time periods between the Betas and the invasion of Southsun Cove. Even back then, a lot of my pictures are taken at some point during one of those animations. They help “tell the story” in the photos far better than just standing there doing nothing. Can PLEASE we get some word on when these will be restored? I don’t want to enter the Maguuma Jungle without ’em.

ANet has a poor definition of “Living”.

They want us to feel the game is “alive” by showing us that things permanently change. But the only way they seem to know how to do that is to take stuff away from us. That may be “change”, but it is not “living”. Life infers growth, not destruction.

  • Lion’s Arch was destroyed. The cultural hub of Tyria was taken away.
  • Town Clothes were removed and replaced with Outfits. Tell me; why couldn’t Outfits have been simply added? Why did Town Clothes need to be removed?
  • Countless low level “neat” things were removed for the NPE. Why take away the mini Golem Arena? Was it hurting anything?
  • Many minipets have lost their sound effects. Why can’t they just be made so that only the owner hears them?

Why this policy of take-away? If you take stuff away all the time, and never give anything back, is it any wonder people grumble? Is it any wonder the world doesn’t feel as “alive” as you want it to?

Forget all the examples above. What about your “Living World” Season 1? It was all about new content being added. Change! But what happened when that new content was removed? Massive complaints by the player base. You had to restructure your flagship game model to allow the Living World content to be available to players whenever they have the time.

Can’t you see this ANet? Didn’t the lesson of LS1 translate to the other parts of the game? Change is great, but taking stuff away is not a great way to show change. Even the little things matter to people; for it is those things that really make the world come to life.

EDIT: You added the special “Mail Carrier” animations completely on the suggestion of one inventive player on the forums. I applaud you for that. I would probably even buy one myself, except that it always happens behind open windows, so I never get to see it. But it is those little bits and pieces of flavor that have nothing at all to do with “getting ahead” in the game that add the life to your world.

My character can’t believe that this bug is still unacknowledged. See? Her mouth is hanging open in astonishment.

[Suggestion] CULTURAL OUTFITS

As pointed out in other threads, we have now been mourning Town Clothes for one year.

Please, ANet. Do something with Outfits instead of armor look-alikes. Give us some Town Clothing. Give us special event costumes. Give us unique stuff that armor can’t give us. Stop making better-looking armors that can’t be mixed and matched. You’re killing us.

And turn all those Town Clothing Tonics into Outfits. I’m still waiting.

Dear God… nobody has said anything about the Megaserver yet? What’s wrong with you people?

I can’t stand being packed into this world like a sardine. Give me back the lower population server that I elected for in the first place. And get it OUT of the cities!

Still wondering… why TONICS?

Dumbest. Idea. Ever.

Don’t forget that we already have Cultrual Outfits in the game. ANet just saw fit to convert them into crappy tonics.

In the good ol’ days, every starting character received a suit of Cultural clothing upon character creation. They need to un-tonic these, and turn them into dyable Outfits. Then reinstate the policy of giving this one Outfit to every character for free.

It seems to me that the Outfit designers would dearly love to make stuff on a cultural basis. I can imagine the artist putting the finishing touches on a male and female human wedding outfit (yes, we had that in GW1). His supervisor comes to look over his shoulder at the finished product and says “Great! …now make that fit a Charr”.

The artist slumps in his seat.

Please let me know what you people think.

I think you’re full of hooey.

The Norns come nowhere close to the “Aryna race ideal”. They are not racial supremacists. They do not look down on others for not being Norn. They admire individual accomplishments, regardless of race, which is far more enlightened. Yes, there is a bell curve – you’ll hear a Norn in the Great Hall referring to a “whiny Krytan”. But they also have built monuments to the Asura Snaff for his accomplishments.

You can now sleep soundly again in the knowledge that ANet is not trying to subliminally subvert you with their vision of the one true Master Race that should rule the world.

More Cultural Armor ideas:

  • Asura – A radiation/hazmat suit. A lab coat. Surgeon’s scrubs.
  • Sylvari – More “plant” styles!
  • Norn – Furs! And huge furry cloaks and hoods and boots!
  • Human – Simple Town clothes. Peasant. Noble. Street Rat.
  • Charr – Camouflage fatigues. Army pants w/ tank top. Blacksmith (surely important to the Charr!)

Come on, guys! RPers! Imaginative folk! Spit out some ideas! Certainly there are some non-armor looks that you would like to see for Outfits! Something that armor skins can’t necessarily provide.
