Alerting downed players help is coming

I have had people waypoint off when I am right there. Sometimes even after I have begun reviving them. With those kinds of people you just gotta scratch your head in confusion, smile, and tell yourself that it’s their loss, since they’ll be paying a waypoint fee in addition to the armor repair.

MY SUGGESTION: In WvW the mini map shows blue dots for friendly players. How about being able to see other players on the map when you are dead, so you know if someone is heading your direction? And give us a MINI MAP when dead too! I can change my armor or dye it, or mess with my Inventory, or sell things on the trading post while dead. Why can’t I have a mini map?

They waited several months to post a fix for the numerous bugs in the Total Makeover Kit, all the while continuing to sell faulty Kits. Some bugs were fixed, but I know of at least 2 new bugs it has now. But since their “mass update” policy invariably causes multiple new problems, the Total Makeover Kit will probably get shoved to the back of the cue again (being an optional kinda thing, and not a bug preventing quest completion or something more immediately important.) And the kits are still on sale.

There are tons of dead NPCs all over Orr. Several beginner areas I can think of as well. There are always dead Hunters outside the Hunting Lodge in Queensdale. And the Fishing Village in Viathan’s Arm (Kessex Hills) has a heart quest that is almost entirely done by reviving folks around town. No need to wait on monsters to kill NPCs there. They respawn pre-deadified for you.

You just need to find a spot you like. Maybe you can suggest one of these prime locales for the people standing around, and tell them it is a lot faster than waiting for someone to die. Then you can be a hero to the onlookers as well as the NPCs wearing wolf-chow undies.

PLEASE give us smaller downloads! Fix a few bugs at a time and let us test the results. Stop making us wait forever to get stuff patched, and then making us sit through 500-1000 MB downloads. A good tech guy will tell you not to make a ton of changes all at once. You’re only asking for more problems.

Fix a couple things. Give us the patch. Make sure it is fixed, then move on to the next thing. When you wait forever in between patches, we get antsy and wonder if you’re doing anything at all. Then when you finally give us that mega-download, you wind up with more new bugs.

Keep it simple. Keep it small. Results will be more certain, and we will have a sense that you are still there helping us perfect the game.

Option to Remove "Overflow" Message

in Suggestions

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

I DO care to know if I’m in the overflow, because you can’t see party members outside of town if you are in overflow. But the message sucks. Better to use a “flash” effect on the word “Overflow” in your mini map. That brings it to your attention without blocking your view and forcing an acknowledgement.

Best cure for the overflow popup: GET RID OF THE OVERFLOW! We understandably had overflow in the early days and during holidays. Then as things settled down we almost never had it. Then the Karka came to town and BAM! Overflow over 90+% of the time ever since, even at odd hours.

Simple solution: move the entrance to Fractals out of town. That should reduce LFGers in town chat too.

All Achievements need optional UI Panels

I do my Dailies, so I like having the Daily Achievements displayed directly on my screen. It is ESPECIALLY nice since it tells you the TOTAL achievements you need for each category, and isn’t divided into “Tiers” like it is in the Hero panel. I mean, what’s the point of Tiers?

But PLEASE, stop CLOSING my detailed breakdown! At random weird points, it minimizes my list and I have to keep re-opening it to see my progress.

Also, I do NOT do monthlies (or at least I won’t be doing them until we get a month that doesn’t require PvP/WvW or Dungeon stuff – I’m a strict PvEer, solo for the most part.) So please let me toggle the Monthly Achievements completely OFF of my screen. (It should work that way for Dailies too, for people who don’t wish to deal with them and don’t care to waste the screen real estate.)

I submitted a ticket first, then came here. Glad to see I’m not the only one with a problem. Sad to see they aren’t refunding. How about a replacement Kit at least? Or can I be restored to my old look?

Sylvari female – no glow after using the Kit.

ALSO … her eyes no longer face the same direction. The character’s left eye appears to be lower and perhaps looking inward a little. (Cross-eyed from some perspectives). Very nasty. Notice in the picture, the black part of the character’s right eye is at the top, while the black part of her left eye is at the bottom. Isn’t THAT worth a refund? She looks like Marty Feldman in the closeups from her storyline cut-scenes.

Targeting

in Suggestions

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

Seconded…

Targeting needs to be smarter. Prioritizing would help.

Also, when fighting someone who moves behind me, I lose my auto-attack and have to turn around and manually attack again to continue fighting the same guy. But when I “Attack Closest Target” the computer often selects an enemy (“yellow” as often as not) who is off my screen to the side where I can’t see him. “Closest” should also be prioritized to mean “closest target I am facing”. If the computer recognizes when I can’t “see” someone, and stops me from attacking him until I turn to face them, then it shouldn’t target someone I can’t see off to my side even though he may be closer than someone in front of me.

Let us change DAILY ACHIEVEMENT reset times

in Suggestions

Hamfast.8719

Somehow or other, my Daily Achievements have been set up to reset to zero sometime between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM in my time zone. Different goals reset at different times.

This is a ROTTEN time for me. I would like to be able to get home from work, and start on my Daily Achievements. Then I can have time to play with my friends as they begin to log in later. Right now I have to wait around a few hours until I can begin my Dailies, and then there is not much time left in the day for other activity.

I would love to be able to set my Daily Achievement timer so that it resets to zero sometime in the wee hours of the morning while I am asleep. Other people with other schedules may want to have something different as well.

Some people will probably try to “cheat the system” (moving their times forward to get extra Achievement rewards). So it will need to be set up to make sure nobody gets more than one Daily Achievement reward in a 24 hour period.

I know there is a change coming soon in the Daily Achievements (different tasks required every day). But that would not change my desire to have them reset to zero sometime during my real-life sleep period instead of midway through my normal play period.

Yes, disabling previews for stuff you can’t use is only TEMPORARILY down. It will be restored. I don’t have any for-certain info on TP previews, but everyone wants it. I’m sure they’ll eventually respond. Did you notice that they ORDERED results now? Things aren’t as scrambled.

We KNOW that they can filter out our ability to preview items that we can’t use. Now they need to use that in the TP (as an OPTIONAL filter) and let us filter out results of stuff we can’t use. Allow Normal Skills in Elite Slot

in Suggestions

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

There comes a whole new aspect of balance if we were allowed 4 utility skills. As for the OP, those are racial elite skills not profession elite skills. Racial elite skills are supposed to not be as attractive so in no way are races better than profession. I do believe, however, that some racial skills need to be looked at since they simply lack the “boom” most people are looking for from choosing that race.

Sorry… the Norn Elites were just what popped into my head as pretty obvious. I know that the racial skills are intended to be a little less powerful than the Elites available to all.

It’s just that the Elites available to all tend to be pretty unhelpful. I have characters of all 8 Professions, and less than half have Elites that I actually make use of. It’s a wasted slot.

I have no wacky new builds in mind, DreamOfACure. I am just dreaming of a cure for that 0 key one way or the other. Fixing the Elites to make them worthwhile WOULD be the better way to go, probably.

But if they DID allow normal skills to occupy the Elite slot, nobody is better equipped than the Guild Wars team to keep things in balance. They did it for years in GW1 with far more skills than we have now. Maybe just give a normal skill equipped in the Elite slot an extra 5 second cooldown, or something like that.

Make Teleportation Useful

in Suggestions

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

Teleportation kinda sucks. You can only go line of sight, I understand and support that. No popping through closed doors, etc. But it doesn’t work across even shallow gullies. It only works over unbroken terrain, and only for pretty short distances (900 or less) that you can easily run in 2 seconds. If you have to jump to get there, teleportation doesn’t work.

The Engineer skill to “shoot” themselves is awesome! It helps us folk who are bad at jumping puzzles, or to get across chasms too far to jump otherwise. Warriors also have a leaping ability available to them to span greater than normal jumping distances. Teleportation should do the same thing.

I can think of no earthly reason to use a teleport skill the way it stands now. All it does is make a 2-second run “instant”. In rare instances where you manage to get yourself completely surrounded, it could help you escape. But I have found that I can tumble “through” enemies just fine.

Obviously, I am looking at teleportation as a utility skill. It is much more integrated into the Thief’s makeup, I assume. I haven’t gotten deeply into them yet, so can’t say if their Shadow Step is hindered as well. But the inability of teleport to actually help you cross difficult gaps like an Engineer’s catapult or a Warrior’s leap makes it pretty useless.

Allow Normal Skills in Elite Slot

Elite skills being lackluster is a reason to improve Elite skills, not to allow other skills be used in the slot.

Yeah, sure. That’d be fine too. Improve the Elite skills. Most could be improved with simple lowered recharge times or extended durations (making them more like… normal slot skills?) But at least give me SOME reason to use the doggone thing. My “0” key is getting rusty.

I dunno about you, but I’m not terribly impressed with many of the Elite skills. It feels like a wasted slot in many instances. (What’s the point of the Norn shape-shifting Elites? It expires almost before you can use each skill one time, and takes what… about 4 minutes to get it back again?)

I would welcome the ability to put a normal non-elite skill into slot 0 if desired.

Hmm… that must be something like what I ran into yesterday north of Yak’s Bend. I saw a Mithril Ore vein on my mini map, and a dead player nearby. Both are usually a reason for me to head over in that direction. As I got closer, I saw TWO dead Players, then three. By the time I got there, I found at least 8 dead, naked players and no serious monsters in the area to account for it.

I killed the monsters, revived one or two of the players (without a “TY” of course – they weren’t even moving at first, so I figured they were AFK.) I did my mining and before I knew it everyone was up and running around (naked), mostly the favored Ranger Profession with pets dashing about.

When it dawned on me that I must’ve awakened some Chinese Gold Farming group I got out of there. I hate being anywhere in the vicinity of them. Anymore, I will not revive any naked players out in the middle of nowhere. I’m sure the majority of toons in that state are bots.

Weaponsmith needs RESIZE WEAPON option

in Suggestions

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

Exactly why would ANet go and make items look inconsistent now?

What’s inconsistent? Keep the size slider from making weapons too comically ridiculous (either larger or smaller). It will open up more options to those of us who put some value in how out characters look.

Aside from Asura weapons looking strangely smaller when out-of-combat, I don’t see the real demand that’s needed to outweigh the concept of aesthetic proportions.

That’s just my point. I am asking for support on an aesthetic level. I like my Asuran Mesmer’s greatsword when sheathed, but it looks ridiculously huge to me when pulled out. MOST weapons in this game tend to look oversized to me, Asuran or not. ANet easily resizes things everyday. The mechanics are there. Let us pay a Weaponsmith as another small money sink to make people happier with the way their toon looks.

And last I checked, there aren’t many games that allow re-sizing. lol

Umm… so?

(With the possible exception of Medium armors – it seems that “Medium” is synonymous with “Trench Coat”. /sarcasm). As the game ages, most everyone will find SOMETHING they like.

What we need is better FITTING armor! Many skirts fit like a window ledge around the hips that you could set a pie on to cool. All the female Norn skirts flare way out in front so that they appear pregnant. (Compare side-by-side with humans in the same armor). And don’t get me started on shoulder armor! Armor designs are nice, but they REALLY need to be resized and re-aligned to the models.

The armor repair fee is important as something more than a money sink (although why we need money sinks is still a mystery to me. I have TONS of stuff I want that I will be forever trying to afford.) The armor repair fee helps you become a better player. Death has a tangible consequence, so you learn that there are times to run, and not just stand in there trading blows until you die, then come running back from a waypoint as if nothing ever happened.

What annoys me is the “one-hit you’re downed, second-hit you’re dead” bad guys. (And that’s my Warrior with Exotic armor, well-runed out and tons of Toughness.) It really burns me to have to pay for those insty-kills that I had no way of defending or dodging.

As far as Waypoints go, I think a fair solution would be to make them free to a character AFTER they have attained 100% Completion for that zone. Make it a little gift from the Tyrian Explorer’s Society in their congratulatory note.

And for repeat offenders I suggest a place all their own. Lump all the three-strikers into one server where they can be the dregs of society to their heart’s content. (Picture the movie “Escape from New York”.) They would be unable to transfer out without permission from ANet). They would be happier amongst their own kind. (And if not, who cares?) Why do PvE players feel like they should be able to get everything from just PvE?

Because we are PvE players. Not PvP players.

Why is the idea of having to go into some PvP for some achievements so difficult for them to grasp?

Why is it so hard to grasp that we JUST DON’T LIKE PvP? Mostly (for me) it’s the lack of direction (don’t get me started on “Commanders” who BUY their rank), and the lack of a need for me to brag about my prowess. I know how good or bad a player I am, and even a good player falls to the almighty Zerg. PvE is more balanced most of the time. I am not “afraid” to battle other players, and have certainly done my share of winning and losing. I just don’t like the atmosphere. It’s not for me. (But that’s my opinion.) Plus I don’t want to feel obliged to name my character “My Mom Ownz U”, or “Deth Comes Hard”, or “Eat This Sucka”.

Do you see WvW players complaining about having to do PvE for their achievements?

Sure. Here and there.

Accept that there are some achievements that will have PvP components, just like PvP player have learned to accept we might have to poke our heads into PvE every now and then.

This is a SUGGESTION forum. If enough people want the change, then ANet might implement it. We do not need to be passive and accept it. We are ALREADY living with it, but I am sure ANet cares about community opinions. Nobody gets everything they want, but there’s no harm in trying. You sound pretty submissive for a PvPer.

If it’s the STATS from Karma gear that you want, you have to be high enough level to use it anyway. Your favorite high-level farmer can’t help your low level characters. If it’s the LOOK that you like, you can always transmute. I see no issue here.

You have a “main” that you like to farm Karma with, which is fine. But keep in mind that the Daily Achievements can be done by ANY level character in about an hour in ANY area (high or low level) to get you 4500 easy account-bound points. Your lower level guys can do that and become higher level guys pretty painlessly.

“Karma” means (more or less) being rewarded for doing good deeds. (You get what you give. Treat others as you would have them treat you, etc.) That is why “Karma Points” only go to the good-deed-doer and not your whole account. If they changed the name to “Reward Points” or something else, THEN maybe they could make ’em account-bound. But I think it is fine as-is.

Most NPC Sylvari wear cultural armor, but there is very little available for players right now. (The other races don’t have as “unique” an armor style, but we could use more skins and furs for Norn, more “futuristic” stuff for Asura, etc.) It would be nice if new Racial Armors could be added to the Karma Vendors in areas “belonging” to the race in question. The snow country Karma guys would also sell new Norn cultrual armor, the areas near the Dragonbrand would have Karma vendors with new Charr stuff, etc.

The medium armor trenchcoat issue has been talked to death. We all know we need more non-trenchcoats available for professions that are supposed to rely on being nimble. Think of famous archers and thieves (Robin Hood, Aragorn & Legolas, Zorro, etc.) How often do you picture any of THEM in a trenchcoat? Save that for the spaghetti westerns.

There’s also a ton of town clothes seen on NPCs that players can’t get. The models are there, give us a vendor!

And what about correct FITMENT? Why do all skirts make my female Norn look pregnant? I am pretty sure she’s been careful in that respect. Compare a female Human and Norn side-by-side in the exact same armor sometime. The Human will look sexy and the Norn will look like she shops at Babies R Us. (Even CULTURAL armors designed SPECIFICALLY for the Norn! Check out that Tier 2 skirt… it looks like she’s standing in a barrel. You could set a dinner plate on the ledge created by her belt.)

“Kitten” is being used as a replacement for naughty words to avoid the censors? I was aware of the problem of underage children accidentally seeing kitty porn online, but I had no idea that innocent words were being use like words overheard in a cat house! What a cat-astrophe! You could hurt someone’s felines talking that way! Let’s ban ALL replacement words… the whole lot! The whole kitten-kaboodle! (I would be lion if I said I didn’t want to see other lynx to this topic.)

Okay… WHY do people have to abbreviate all the time? It is fine if you abbreviate AFTER you say one time what you mean. But PLEASE don’t assume everyone knows your abbreviations. (That would get more people to answer you when looking for groups, or trying to sell things too. Make yourself UNDERSTOOD!)

Now with that said, what is a “RNG box”? I want to know if there’s one chance in a million I will ever own Foostive the Merry.

Guild Emblems "Unrealistic" Looking

I see very few guild emblems displayed on armor / shields / weapons, and when I do they always look … “unrealistic”?

They don’t look painted/sewn on to the item. They look cartoonish. Solid, overly-bright colors that don’t take on the texture of whatever they are on. They seem to pop out like something out of Toon Town.

No wonder I don’t see many. I guess other people think they look like garbage too. I for one have had zero interest in picking out an emblem for my guild after I first saw some poor shmuck’s shoulder armor emblazoned with what looked like tail-lights glowing on them instead of a design painted on.

Wow, what a sense of entitlement. You want Anet to bend over backwards and change something just for you because your wife pwns you and can’t tell the difference between real p0rn and a stretching sound effect stuck on loop.

No…

He’s reporting a bug. Not asking to change a game feature. Should really be moved to that part of the forum and/or reported with the in-game bug report feature.

First, you do not need to play a long time to get decent gear. All you need is to stop playing a team oriented game alone, and actually interact with the community of players around you and join in on dungeons. These can be done from lvl 35 onward to get tokens which can be used to buy end game equipment.
hence, the cost of upgrading a character is negligible, just takes 4 hours a week for a month and you should have a full set of armor and weapon. That is if you can swallow your pride and listen to people directing you, and understand that the game isnt all about you.

secondly, wintersday events scaled you to 80, no matter your level. So your argument is invalid.

lastly, getting to 80 is not that difficult, if you are a poor player, then join a guild, and ask for pointers or ideas about what to do/where to go. To get to 80 can be done in a few days if you play alot, but even if you play a few hours a week (ie 4-5) you can easily do it in a month.

if you really dont have 4-5 hours a week to play a game, then perhaps you shouldnt be playing it and should stick to facebook games. where reward is given for clicking a few buttons, and no effort is needed.

Part of the reason behind getting rid of the “Holy Trinity” was that you DON’T HAVE TO play as a team all the time – characters can be tailored to heal and fend for themselves, so GW2 is NOT just a"team oriented game". It is by far one of the most flexible games ever made as far as what you can do and how you can play.

Granted, doing things together makes it easier most of the time, but he is either uncomfortable playing that way, or his real life circumstances interfere with being able to find many people around when he plays. Perhaps he is just jaded by having teamed up with so many idiots in the past. Whatever the reason, the man prefers to play solo, so your suggestion is to join a guild and team up with other people? How about some helpful suggestions instead of just bashing his perfectly valid way of playing?

am i the only one who saw the OP and wondered why on earth is he playing an MMO when all he seems to want is a single player experiance.

I have to rant a little here, for what part of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game alludes some of you? It simply means, many players in a shared instance.

Absolutely, KyleQuest! In real life I happen to live in a world with a whole BUNCH of people. That doesn’t mean I have to do everything with them as a team. I am quite capable of doing stuff on my own, and PREFER to sometimes. That doesn’t mean I want to live in the world by myself though.

Lutharr, your “It’s an MMORPG” argument is as dumb as it is old. Are you ignoring the “RP” part of MMORPG? Most people aren’t Role-Playing either. If you aren’t Role-Playing, do you want me to tell you to get out of our game?

My vote is to downscale dungeons when there are fewer than 5 players, in the same manner that Personal Story episodes seem to adjust to the number of players involved (and that monsters upscale their abilities against larger groups of players.)

It would also reduce all the waiting around LFGing – something that removing the “Holy Trinity” was supposed to have done.

White Flag?

Well thought-out notion. I dislike WvW but have nothing against having to “complete” the WvW maps. I just don’t want to participate in the WvW. But it would probably just be easier to make the WvW maps NOT a requirement (for monthly achievements as well). Otherwise those of us who dislike WvW are at a disadvantage.

People would find ways to exploit your suggestion. You can’t have one side invisible to the other because of SKILL POINTS. Often, defeating a monster is required. Everyone should remain visible to everybody else.

And if nobody is invisible, then even if gagged from chat, people would still use Ventrilo to pass on enemy positions.

So simple removal of WvW from the requirement is easiest and best. If it is important enough, you can also change servers for free for a week too, can’t you? You’d be a week without your regular companions, which would be a pain. But perhaps you might discover new friends. And one of you might convince the other to move “permanently” if you prefer the population of one server over another.

Free Waypoint Costs

The whole game is supposed to revolve around exploring, waypoints limit this, and limit the fun… The “fun” part comes from the fact that instead of porting around using Waypoints you move through the map, encountering people and events all the way…. That’s way more fun and than porting in order to farm one event over and over again. Try making your walk more enjoyable instead of just passing by runnign through everything.

The whole game is NOT supposed to revolve around exploring. It is supposed to revolve around YOU and whatever you prefer doing. Exploring, PvE, PvP, WvW, whatever.

If I have the waypoint, then I have ALREADY explored the area. It is NOT fun for me to run through the same area again and again and again (with multiple characters).

Exploring means seeing NEW things, so I want to be able to jump rapidly to the edge of my UNexplored area.

And if I have 100% completion, then believe me I did not just “move through the map”. It has been thoroughly explored.

Come on, Tyrian Explorer’s Society… give us free waypoints for 100% map completion!

Zone around all NPC vendors/agents.

No, Ronah, it is not just “looks”. The main concern is other “useless” NPCs standing close to the useful ones. I am constantly running up to a banker and pressing F only to have a nearby NPC turn to me and say “How do you do?” instead of opening my stash.

The same problem goes with picking up loot on the battlefield. Nearby NPCs, environmental items, mining ore, etc. all use the F key. So I am constantly trying to pick up loot and wind up with an NPC dialogue box in front of my view when I just wanted to pick up my treasure and continue the fight. Or picking up a boulder. Or mining ore. Or Reviving a downed character.

I suggest there be TWO keys to perform actions: the F key for PRIORITY actions, and SHIFT-F for all other actions.

The player should be able to select his preferred PRIORITY action (F-Key) in his OPTIONS for both combat AND non-combat situations. (You have a definite “COMBAT MODE” in which you cannot use waypoints, or change skills or armor, etc. You can tell what mode you are in, because your skills on the skill bar will not have the upwards-pointing arrow in the top right corner if you are in combat.)

For both Combat and Non-Combat modes, you could select from the following to be your Priority (F-Key) action:

“Search” (Loot bodies)
“Talk” (Talk to nearby NPCs – “Useful” NPCs being prioritized unless selected otherwise)
“Use/Interact” (The catch-all for interacting with environmental objects)
“Revive” (Revive downed characters – Players being prioritized over NPCs unless selected otherwise).
“Gather” (Gather plants / chop trees / mine ore)

This would allow players to perform actions that THEY consider to be a priority with the F key. They can still perform lesser-priority actions with SHIFT-F (prioritized by distance from the character unless specifically selected by clicking a target.)

Having a separate key for Priority actions means that if you prioritize SEARCHING, and you are not within range of any loot, you won’t talk to a nearby NPC instead.

The Tyrian Explorer’s Society should make waypoints free in any zone where you have attained 100% completion. That would make their silly little congratulatory note MEAN something.

Prices are out of whack. I used waypoints without a second thought when I was low level and poor. It was an acceptable money sink. Now that I am level 80, I often walk instead of waypointing because I have so many other expensive things I need to save for.

The GW2 creators have continually gone out of their way to state how they want to make the game FUN first and foremost. Well they have effectively removed my ability to get from place to place very quickly now. Not fun.
