The Dragons are an ancient, powerful, and proud race. One of the “unknown” dragons has been intentionally hidden from us by his kin, because he is named simply “Spot”, and they don’t want their image to suffer.

Is it a coincidence that we are now up against the

I think perhaps not!

I’m not saying they won’t experience any minor nerfs in the future, but Warrior and Elementalist are perhaps the more “fundamental” character types in the game, and thus are less likely to be messed with on a large scale. (Sorry… I am still very bitter about the total makeover they did to the Dervish in GW1. It completely destroyed a character I had invested a lot time and effort perfecting, and really enjoyed. Try as I might, I could never come close to recapturing the ability, power, and versatility of the original.)

And as “fundamental” character types they are also a little easier to play, perhaps, and aren’t as likely to be excluded from groups by snotty players based solely on their Profession.

Do Thieves do any Thieving?

in Thief

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

I know thieves can “rob” opponents to gain temporary use of an item/skill that can be used against their opponents. But do people really do this regularly, and to any effect? Can you “rob” a player in PvP or WvW? Personally, I think it would be a pain to shadowstep in, take something, and then have to quickly study what you have to know what it does and how you can deploy it.

I never hear anything about Thieves doing any thieving. All I hear is Glass Cannon this. Permanent stealth that. Fastest. Biggest spike. Etc.

Is the “thieving” aspect a wasted ability? Should they be renamed “Assassin”?

World Completion?

Once I decided to go for 100% map completion I waited 4 months and never got a shot at finishing the WvW maps. (I’m looking at you, Stonemist Castle!). We were ALWAYS fighting the same opponents and ALWAYS getting the same results. Two weeks after they announced they would begin rotation, they finally did so with my server. 2 weeks later I got world completion on 2 characters.

Post your server name here. Maybe the GW2 team will see it and say “Uh, guys… did we forget about this server?”

GUILD Bound

in Suggestions

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

I like this idea except for the concept that the item would pop back to the guild vault if you represent another guild. While these days I stick with just one guild, I still might want to hop to another of my four to ask for dungeon runs etc. The guild system is meant for quick changes in representation, and a gift should be a gift, not a loan only while active.

Perhaps guild binding could be used for initial transfer, but once the person uses it it goes account/soulbound and thus reverts to the current system. That would let you give something to someone, and let them keep it, but not let it keep on going to yet more people.

I picture Guild Bound items as consumables mostly, so a Guild Bound item remains Guild Bound until it is used. Then it is gone. If they were to make non-consumable Guild Bound items, then they would become Account Bound or Soulbound when used.

As far as I know, the Guild Vault cool-down period does not require that you need to be representing that whole time, and this shouldn’t either. I’m just saying someone needs to be “officially” indoctrinated into a guild by waiting 72 hours after joining before they can trade Guild Bound items. There is nothing to “pop back into the vault” because nothing can be swapped until the waiting period has elapsed. (Besides, the vault may be full). After the swap, a player can take any Guild Bound items on his person and leave the Guild with them.

I am not trying to create a roundabout way of swapping Soulbound or Account Bound items. I want to give things to current friends, and am only making this suggestion of a cool-down period to make it less attractive for people who want to misuse it for some sort of personal gain.

One thing I liked about GW1 was being able to go out and pluck a dozen Red Iris Flowers for the female players in my guild on Valentines Day, Mother’s Day, birthdays, etc. Everything you find lying loose in GW2 is Soulbound because it’s part of some gathering event.

GUILD Bound

in Suggestions

Hamfast.8719

Here’s an idea that could use a little work – what about making some items Guild Bound?

I want to be able to share with my friends, and vice-versa. Or give them gifts on special occasions that they might not normally be able to get for themselves because the gods of RNG weren’t kind to them.

I am thinking here mostly of consumables that are available for a limited time, such as festival rewards. Many game festivals correspond with real-life holidays, and players with a LIFE might not be able to attend every in-game event. Also, (as mentioned), some players may be LUCKIER than other players with the RNG. If I get 3 tickets for weapon skins and don’t want them all, what would it hurt to be able to give some to my friends who have been killing themselves daily and getting nothing? Even the soulbound festival hats should be tradeable so that players with more than one warrior can get more than one heavy helm. (Having a helm would NOT trigger the achievement that earned it.)

I am sure some people would try to “exploit” this, so for starters Guild Bound items would have the same “cool-down” time as the Guild Vault. People would actually have to be a full representing guild member for 72 hours before they could swap Guild Bound items. (Some guilds would have no problem letting people join up for 3 days just to SELL them a Guild Bound item. The player would then have to USE the item before leaving the Guild, or lose it.)

GW2 would have control over what kind of items are Guild Bound, so they can simply change an item back to “Account Bound” or “Soulbound” if they feel that unfair exploitation is taking place.

My main goal is to be able to give nice, thoughtful things my friends. All of this “account bound” and “soulbound” junk is intended to keep certain items from being sold on the TP and messing with the economy. It is also intended to encourage each player to earn goodies for themselves. That’s fine. But it also clamps down on players helping players, which isn’t very community-oriented.

I imagine this is full of holes as it stands, but that is why I’m putting the idea out there – to get the holes identified and plugged. So please, if you see a hole don’t just point it out; try to offer a solution (the simpler the better).

Maybe the entire idea stinks. In that case, please give me a cleaner solution to being able to give stuff away to friends when everything is Account Bound or Soulbound. (Is that the solution right there? Make items “Soulbound on use. Not sellable on the Trading Post”. Then we could give them away but not sell them.)

Give GW2 your phone number, and next time they’ll call you to come online. They gave plenty of warning. Your fault, not theirs. I have a feeling that that is mostly why you are upset (if I may play junior psychiatrist).

The hats are no biggie. You’ll live fine without one. Like all gear, it’s a matter of taste. Some love it, some hate it, some don’t care one way or the other. And it MIGHT be back next year.

If you are working on getting your wings, by now you probably realize you don’t need to get the Fireworks achievement. (They reduced the Dragon Bash Experience total from ten to eight).

If you just wanted to see the show, then I am on your side. I was there for several showings and could barely ever get my camera to be able to see them past my toon. And they came as the sun was coming up, not when it was nice and dark. (At least on my server.) It was difficult to actually tell they were really going off.

POSSIBLITY: Give the music-makers a forum. Create lots of pretty BANDSTANDS across the world, both in and out of towns. (Preferably AWAY from the banks and TP and crafting.) Musical instruments can only be heard within a certain limited range of the bandstand. Anyone who doesn’t like the instruments need not go near. Serious artists can jam to their hearts content. How do YOU enter an asura gate?

I also went right through one of the LA gates during beta and fell over the cliff on the other side.

Normally though, I jump through. (If you’re familiar with the original Star Trek, I often picture Kirk and Spock jumping through the Guardian of Forever in semi-slow motion. Most of my toons jump in a similar fashion.)

When I’m not in a hurry and want to have a little fun, I have a couple alternates:

Elementalist: Staff Fire skill #4 “Burning Retreat”. Face away from gate, and roll through backwards leaving a trail of fire behind (picture the Delorean fiery tire tracks in “Back to the Future”).

Engineer: Rifle skill #5 “Jump Shot” through the gate. (Can also use the EXPERIMENTAL RIFLE for any other character in the same manner).

We had this suggestion on the Suggestions forum. I imagine your thread will be merged over there.

I agree it is “clutter” for many people, especially in PvE. But sometimes people follow commanders even in PvE. Even in town. (I know… I don’t get it either. The very few I ever bothered to follow didn’t seem to know their head from a hill of beans. And I guess I’m just not the follower type.)

Anyway, the better solution would be the ability to toggle it completely off as an OPTION. Or “Toggle off in PvE”. Or both. I only have one tiny “N” telling me my direction on the map, and it gets covered up enough by nearby event notifications and storyline stars. I don’t need all those useless blue arrows hiding it as well.

If you use shorthand to save time, you risk not being understood. You need to decide what is more important in the situation; getting the message out quickly, or getting the message out to as many people as possible.

Know your audience. It is NOT everyone else’s responsibility to figure out what you are trying to say. It is YOUR responsibility to make yourself clear. Once you feel that everyone understands what you mean, go ahead and abbreviate. But we aren’t going to waste our time Googling your secret code. We’re just going to ignore you. Easiest Jumping Puzzles?

Hamfast.8719

I don’t know it’s name, but there’s one in SE Gendarran Fields that isn’t about jumping as much as it is doing little fights and getting a secret underwater passage opened up. Definitely need to watch a YouTube vid though, to find out what to do and where to look.

If you are high enough level to get there, go to Orr and acquire the EXPERIMENTAL RIFLE: http://dulfy.net/2013/01/16/gw2-useful-and-fun-consumables-guide/#3b

It allows you to make jumps like the Engineer’s Rifle skill “Jump Shot”. I find it very handy. I bought 50 to begin with (they are SOULBOUND and last about 5 minutes or until you try to make an “impossible” shot.) With the Jumping Puzzles as a Monthly Achievement, I decided to go back and make it a whole stack of 250. (You’ve gotta complete 3 events before the Vendor will sell them to you. And she only sticks around for about 5 minutes. So I figured I may as well stock up instead of having to go through all that again.)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The original Dervish was very fun and extremely versatile. Then they completely changed it, and that totally destroyed the Profession for me. It took awhile for me to make the “new Dervish” playable/survivable at all, and I eventually wound up benching him. I have rarely ever been as disgusted with something as I was with them totally wiping out all my hard work in creating the “perfect” skill bar, and replacing it with something I could hardly keep alive.

Rant aside, you do know that a GW2 Dervish would have almost nothing in common with a GW1 Dervish, right? (Other than wardrobe, perhaps).

The excessive particle effects – especially the silly footprints – are a bigger reason for me not to work on a Legendary than the money and grind involved. Most Legendaries just look bad, and the overdone “special effects” make them look worse.

Just my opinion of course. Everyones tastes are different. But there are darned few that don’t have the special effects that mark them as a “Legendary”. Perhaps a particle effects on/off toggle? Or multiple toggles if (for example) someone likes the glowing trail, but not the footprints effect.

I’ve been asking to get it back since they killed my beautiful compass during the betas in favor of the mini map:

Give me back ALL FOUR COMPASS POINTS for the rotating version of the map!

The tiny little N needs 3 companions. They need to be about 100% bigger. And they need to stay on top of all the other edge-of-the-map icons.

This would be BEYOND huge for me. A compass without direction indicators is… nothing. I have been getting lost since day one, when normally I have a very good sense of direction. I am continually opening up the full-screen map, which is precisely what they were trying to cure by going with the mini map.

(And this would be so easy to implement!)

(Please; no comments about trying the static map. Believe me I have tried, but I will never get used to it. Every game I’ve ever played used a rotating compass, and my car GPS rotates as well.)

Time to fix GAME TIME

I just noted this on WIKI:

A day/night cycle is present in the game. Day lasts for 70 minutes, night for 40 minutes and the transitions between the two take 5 minutes each, comprising a 2-hour cycle. A number of mechanics can be linked to this cycle, including events, NPCs, and equipment effects.

I never realized night was shorter. That kind of messes with my proposed time period names. Perhaps this would work:

5 minutes of DAWN
20 minutes of MORNING
30 minutes of AFTERNOON
20 minutes of EVENING
5 minutes of DUSK
40 minutes of NIGHT

I agree with consistent time zones, though I think the music is fine as it is.

Once again, this is NOT the background music! I love the background music! I am talking about the FIRST FEW NOTES of the song played every once in awhile as a sound effect. You’ve never been in town long enough to hear it? I wish I could find a proper link for you. I just think it would be nice if it signified something rather than be mere random background noise. Calling attention to the time of day seems a natural, useful function for it.

Just went to my Home District in Divinity’s Reach… it was night time while the rest of the city was in full daylight.

Oop! Ack! Thpppt!

To be fair, a lot of the personal story instances have to happen at a certain time of day or night.

I wasn’t entering a personal storyline at the time. I was just visiting my foster family for old times sake, and time jumped. But if a personal story requires it to be night, I understand. I am not so attuned to roleplaying that I want the game to tell me “please come back at night” before I can proceed with my personal story. I am fine with time inexplicably passing for the sake of storylines.

Auto-Targeting Issue

in Suggestions

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

Target Closest Enemy worked beautifully in GW1. They need to take that set of parameters and program it into this game. (GW2 does pick targets very poorly for some reason.) Thank goodness they at least allow you to toggle off right-click targeting now. That reduced my accidental targeting a ton.

And above all: allow us to toggle YELLOW mobs on/off. I rarely want to fight yellow monsters for any reason. I can understand them being accidentally aggroed if I catch them in my AoE, but I rarely have any reason to select them as my primary target.

To complete the targeting repairs, you also need to be able to toggle OFF a “called target”. I periodically call targets by accident if I am doing a quest where I need to depress the CRTL key to find stuff. There’s no way to get rid of it until you destroy the target and everyone involved loots it (easiest just to switch to a white-text target and kill that.)

Random intervals? You have long periods without background music?…

Nonono… this is not the background music.

Every once in awhile in Hoelbrak you hear the opening notes from The Norn Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAOe-WNiQLY) played on bass-sounding horns, kind of like those long Swiss Alphorns. In the Grove you occasionally hear what might be a harp playing the opening notes of a different tune. In Divinity’s Reach it’s a more “Human” instrument and a more “martial” sound if I remember correctly. These tunes play as a game sound effect, not background music. It is almost as if each race had their own form of town church bells ringing out the hour. You can even hear them OUTSIDE of the town if you are nearby.

Anyhoo… I think it would be cool if they actually MEANT something. If not GAME time, then perhaps if they chimed on the REAL hour? Something to make you look at the time periodically. (It beats the GW1 “You have been playing for 3 hours. Please take a break”.)

im so discusted with dragon loot dropping blue crap all the time. Ive gotten blue drops from the chest 5 times in a row and 1 green. This needs to stop, for how long it takes, and the amount of times most people die during the events it should be profitable in some way. The new gold loot once a day is a nice bonus but still, the chest shouldnt drop anything less than green loot. Specialy WVW World Bosses, those need nerfed soo hardcore like yesterday. No one even does them anymore cuz the loot is so crap.

Pew Pew, Don’t QQ (sorry… couldn’t resist the irony).

The comical “opens after you fall to your death” chute sounds awesome! I would buy that! But real automatically-working chutes as part of your everyday armor will lead to more “I want a flying mount!” threads.

BETTER SUGGESTION: Make it a semi-useful item that can be purchased from an NPC, much like the Experimental Rifle or the Effigy Fragment. http://dulfy.net/2013/01/16/gw2-useful-and-fun-consumables-guide/

It would not be very easy to use in combat, as you would have to open your inventory and double-click the consumable item to change your skill bar. You would then have to click the appropriate skill on your skill bar to deploy the chute. But it could be very cool for PLANNED down-jumps like getting into the Troll’s End jumping puzzle entrance. A moderate amount of “steering” would be permitted since you can change directions in midair when you jump normally.

Check out Glint’s Scale (Level 80 Exotic) at the Trading Post. I got it specifically because it is small and not obnoxious. (Sorry… can’t do anything about the purple). I don’t know how small and unnoticeable it is for races other than my Asura. You can always transmute its skin over any other focus if you don’t care for the stats. Cost is comparable with most other “normal” level 80 Exotics.

Time to fix GAME TIME

It’s time to fix GAME TIME.

I am tired of stepping out of LA into Gendarran Fields and going from darkest night to brightest day. Time “zones” in the game need to be more consistent. Please ANet, do your best to organize the various world zones into a coordinated schedule.

Since the sun moves BACKWARDS in Tyria (west to east) the sun would rise in Rata Sum first, then work its way east to the Grove and Divinity’s Reach, then LA, followed by Hoelbrak, then the Black Citadel. (ALL regions should be in sync. I am only using the major cities for an example).

We understand that the current map is NOT the whole world. It won’t be midnight in the Grove while it is Noon in Hoelbrak. Depending on how large the world really is, the whole map may be in one stage or another of NIGHT at the same time. I leave that to the game designers to figure out since they have an idea of the full scope of their world.

ALSO, in addition to the local or server time on our mini maps that is already displayable, it would be nice to have a rough indicator of Game Time that we can see. Suggestion:

Midnight to 3AM game time, display Darkest Night
3AM to 6AM game time display Early Morning
6AM to 9AM game time display Morning
9AM to 12 Noon game time display Late Morning
12 Noon to 3PM game time display Afternoon
3PM to 6PM game time display Late Afternoon
6PM to 9PM game time display Evening
9PM to 12 Midnight game time display Late Evening

At exactly Noon and Midnight we should hear each city play their “theme music” that you hear now at seemingly random intervals. (Or MAYBE even at the beginning of each time period?)

I think this would be a GREAT way to schedule holiday events. You can tell everyone that the Fireworks will begin by the fountain in LA in “Late Evening” and we would be coordinated real-worldwide without having to guess and convert real-life time zones. And with coordinated game time, people in far away zones would have some idea when to hustle back to LA to catch those fireworks!

Some rains have seemed to be getting HARDER lately, which is great. I hardly noticed the light sprinkling we used to get before. But it is still very limited to what region you are in. I would love to see popup rains, full game days of sprinkles, and full blown dark sky thunderstorms complete with lightning strikes for all appropriate regions INCLUDING the cities. (Appropriate, meaning no rain in the frozen snowy areas, etc.)

Does anyone like playing ugly characters?

IMO most people use Charr just so their armor/weapons are extra huge and cool-looking.

Not all Charr armor and weapons are extra huge – THANK GOODNESS!

IMO oversized weapons and huge unrealistic spikes all over are DUMB looking. Far from “cool”.

We both have our opinions. I’m glad the game lets us (mostly) equip our characters the way we want. (The exception of course, being that a medium armored character had better like those nasty ol’ trenchcoats…)

And my Charr is fearsome looking, not ugly. I do however have one of those crotchety-looking Asura, and I love him! Too bad the voice acting in the storyline makes him sound like a young, eager do-gooder.

Focus on the gem-store bad for the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hamfast.8719

Omg what a joke. I already said many times I do not ask for anything. If I would get nothing I would be fine. But the idea that gem-buyers get something for supporting but other suppers don;t is plain wrong. And it shows the wrong way they are going with there focus on the gem-store. It’s kryptonite for the game.

WHY is it wrong for ANet to give a “Thank you gift” to the people who paid them more money above and beyond the basic purchase of the game?

Your only support has been your promise to buy expansions. How does that make you a “supporter”? We ALL bought the game, (yes, I bought the CE) so you can’t argue that you are supporting them above and beyond in that way.

But here’s some news for you… they are in this to make MONEY. Gem buyers gave them money. We are REALLY supporting them, not just promising to support them later if they release expansions. They are giving us virtual toys as a way of saying thank you.

What don’t you get? Gem buyers paid them more, so we got more. Seems pretty simple.

Same here. Borlis Pass, if that makes a difference. I SEEM to have been in bashing range [F] and lost out on it without ever pressing F. More testing to be sure if that’s the case or not. But definitely losing out on goodies.

(I KNOW pinatas are supposed to be broken, but I didn’t think they meant it quite like this.)

What would Gwen have thought of Tyria in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

News flash!

Durmand Priory officials announced today that they have modified Asuran waypoint technology commonly used to restore recently deceased individuals to life. The modifications enable them to revive long-dead people, and the Human hero Gwen was the unanimous choice to bring back first.

From the site of her tomb in Ebonhawke, Gwen was briefed on events and changes since her passing nearly 250 years ago. When asked her opinion of the new Tyria, Gwen is reported to have said, “STILL no mounts?” At which point she gave a lingering scowl at her flat, calloused feet, climbed up to the local Vista, and promptly threw herself over the edge.
