Retain Dye Sorting Preferences!

I have a lot of dyes, and even if I had very few I think sorting by HUE makes the most sense. If I want to find a brown dye, I search under “Browns”. If I want to use a red dye I search under “Reds”.

But every time I restart the game, my dyes get re-sorted by “set” (Common, uncommon, rare).

PLEASE make the game retain my dye sorting preference!

Remove "Overflow" message

Do NOT remove the message. Remove the overflow. I understand overcrowding during special events, but LA has had overflow ever since that dungeon moved in down the street. Take the dungeon entrance out of town, and you will get rid of the overflow.

ALSO – when you are in overflow, you can’t see the dots of party members unless they are also in overflow. So we do need SOME sort of notification that is more attention-grabbing than the text on the mini-map, but less annoying than a popup.

I am all for being immune until you take action. Even with a faster connection, you can often be attacked or even killed before you ever arrive on-screen and take in your surroundings. Shattered & Hall of Monuments Achievements

Hamfast.8719

All I would like to know is. Is there anyway you can get to HOM without an item that is given to you.. I am a GW1 Player who has at least finished Mostly everything.. but Can’t seem to get to HOM in GW2

The most basic requirement for the Hall of Monuments is that you have the GW1 “Eye of the North” expansion. That is where the HoM was introduced. You could finish all the other expansions completely and still not be able to get to your Hall of Monuments because there IS no Hall of Monuments until Eye of the North.

Then you must link your GW1 account with your GW2 account. (You’ll have to dig into that question elsewhere – not sure what the step-by-step procedure is for that if you already have a GW2 account and it is not linked.)

If you have all of that, they give newly created characters a “Hall of Monuments Portal Stone” to teleport there ands claim your rewards. If you lost your stone, there is a Karma Merchant in LA who will give you one for free. (The pirate cave in the NW corner).

I do not know if people can get a stone if they do not have a linked account. It would be cool if ANYONE could go there, even if there were no rewards to be had. The Portal Stone is a great way to pop to a “safe” location if you need to answer the phone or take a quick break, and then pop back to the game where you left off.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Bring back the preview. And ADD preview to the trading post. The preview pane says it’s sponsored by the Black Lion Trading Post, so why doesn’t the TP itself have preview?

I can only guess that they removed it because there were some people who weren’t observant enough to notice the red text telling them they couldn’t wear it. It would be much better to put in a confirmation “This character cannot equip this item. Are you sure you want to buy it?” prompt. Apply that to weapons as well, and anything that has a level requirement too high for the purchaser. But let us preview!

Ranger fix- pets (easy)

in Suggestions

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

The main problem with the pets is still that the text doesn’t change once charmed. This results in running across a field when you spot the pet you want only to discover he already belongs to someone. It also fools the computer momentarily when you arrive at a waypoint where a Ranger is standing with an unnamed pet, and prompts you to press F to Charm it.

ANet, please just automatically change “Juvenile” to “Pet” when charmed. That would cure the confusion.

And fix it so that each different pet can have a unique name. Right now the name seems to be tied to the SLOT you put him in; slot 1 or slot 2. I am told this is the main reason so many Rangers don’t name their pets; because they like to change pets often and the names never stick. After awhile renaming gets to be a hassle.

Move Dungeon out of LA to stop Overflow!

Hamfast.8719

It isn’t the Dungeon. It is the crafters/trading post kings/banker’s. Look at where the players are all huddled around on the Overflow or regular map. I’m on BP as well, and this is how it is. If it was the Dungeon they’d be overflowing the area of the entrance. They aren’t.

Anywho it is a necessary evil, that is more than welcome.

It is most certainly NOT welcome by many people. It IS evil, and it is NOT necessary since it would be so easy to correct.

Also, the crowds in EVERY town are around the banks, trading post, and crafting NATURALLY – those are the primary activities in town. The overflow issue MUST be caused by the dungeon because it only began on “Karka weekend” and has continued ever since. Before that there were no overflow issues (beyond the initial game launch week.)

The other problem with being in the overflow is that you can’t see party members elsewhere in the world. Their dots don’t show up on your map until you can get back into the “real” world. So if they want you to come to where they are, you have to exit town first to get out of the Overflow, THEN you can see them.

Move Dungeon out of LA to stop Overflow!

Hamfast.8719

It’s a PROBLEM. Maybe not a bug, but it’s definitely a PROBLEM. A right royal pain in the Arch.

The overflow is caused by overcrowding. The start of the Overflow issue coincides exactly with the Karka arrival. Perhaps your server isn’t as bad as Borlis Pass. Imagine EVERY TIME you enter town, you have to close a popup that tells you you have been put into the overflow. And then again when I have made it to the front of the queue. EVERY TIME FOR TWO MONTHS! EVEN AT ODD HOURS OF THE DAY!

I think maybe its an ANet conspiracy to get people to leave an overcrowded server and even out WvWvW a little.

Enough already. Move the entrance outside of town.

P.S. – Tell the beggars asking for money to rebuild Lion’s Arch that they’d get more donations if we actually saw some progress. Where’s my Lion Statue? I’m gonna have to ask Toymaker Tixx to bring us a new one for Wintersday.

Reworking of waypoint costs

I have a high-level character. My brother tried out the game during the invite-a-friend weekend. I followed him around through the newbie areas answering questions and helping when he got into trouble.

After a bit of exploration, he was bouncing all around from one waypoint to another thoroughly enjoying the fast travel ability. I on the other hand nearly went broke trying to keep up with him.

The “small fee” they tell you about when you first learn about the waypoints becomes VERY significant before long. Yes, I love exploring. But I want the option to SKIP OVER areas I know like the back of my hand without going broke to do so.

Maybe some “Bus Passes”? Buy a pass for X amount of money, and then waypoint as much as you like for a certain period of time?

Took me MUCH longer. I still don’t manage more than a few levels a day at best, if I’m really working hard at it. And WAY less money. I actually use Waypoints less now than when I was a poor low-level character since they jack up the price as you progress, and the content gets further and further from civilization. I don’t WvW much, but the Devil’s Advocate might say something like:

It would be too easy to see the actual strength of the opposing force, if you could tell how many were real players and how many were (typically weaker) NPCs.

As it stands right now, a player can “hide” amongst NPCs and call for assistance if the enemy shows up in force.

Since you generally have to wait for movement to tell the difference between an NPC and a player, a raiding force might attack what they suspect to be a camp full of NPCs, only to be routed when they discover real human defenders in the mix.

…Or aren’t there THAT many NPCs in WvW? Like I said, I haven’t done much of it.

Allow Seperate Keybind for Picking Up Loot

in Suggestions

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

I am a Warrior. I pick up my loot as it drops, since I am right there. But since we have a universal F-Key command to do almost everything, I am CONSTANTLY talking to nearby NPCs, or reviving downed players and NPCs , or picking up nearby objects by mistake instead.

Having an NPC chat window pop up in front of the action can be disaster. And it is HARD to disengage from reviving! I almost always have to waste a dodge roll to stop. (Is there a better way? I feel like my hand is super-glued to them!) And who doesn’t let out a snort of disgust when they accidentally pick up a cow pie in the middle of a frenzied battle?

If we could bind a separate key to picking up loot, it might help. Or maybe SHIFT-F could be the default? Something. Anything. I’m certainly open to suggestions.

(“Wait until after the battle to collect your loot” isn’t always a solution to this issue either. When you are doing a storyline episode, you often have NPCs shadowing you so close that the “Press F to Talk” is nearly constant. So even AFTER the frenzied encounter is done, they STILL often interrupt you from trying to pick up your loot.)

My opinion of Orr: why I haven't been logging in

in Suggestions

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

No. Uh, uh. I will never believe that the game designers intended to aim us all in this direction so we can grind and farm.

I still believe their intent has always been to make the gameplay fun, with YOU as the central hero. That makes you come back again and again.

Maybe Orr IS a good place to grind and farm, but to make it FUN ANet needs to listen to the overwhelming majority of complaints here – not aimed at being too hard, but being too annoying. Having to constantly fight for every inch of ground to get to your destination is fine. Once. But if you should happen to die, and the nearest waypoint means another half hour of fighting to get back to where you were, many people will give up for the day and go elsewhere. If they give us just a FEW more waypoints that aren’t under constant contention, then more people will stay in Orr, and with more people we can liberate the rest of the waypoints ourselves. It just needs a little balancing.

The "Potty Break" Rule

in Suggestions

Hamfast.8719

Sometimes, you’ve just got to go to the potty.

Or go to the fridge. Or take a quick stretch. Or answer the phone/door. Or otherwise be AFK for a couple quick minutes, where logging out and then back in again would be a hassle.

It can be HARD sometimes in this game to find a “safe” spot. Even in a seemingly quiet area, some joker can run by with a trail monsters following. Just like that, you’re dead when you return to your keyboard.

How about an /AFK emote? (different from setting your status to “Away” in the contacts menu.)

When you go /AFK your toon would sit down. As soon as you move them, they are no longer AFK. While AFK you are immune and do not draw aggro. When you leave the AFK state, monsters within your attack range are immune for a few seconds. While AFK you could manage your inventory, dye your armor, use the Trading Post, or anything else that doesn’t require movement… just like you can do now while in the “defeated” state.

You obviously can’t go AFK while in a fight. And shouldn’t be able to go AFK in WvWvW either… at least not in a keep / fort / tower etc. that could be captured.

Give PURPOSE to the In-City Racial Music

in Suggestions

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

Every so often in one of the 6 main cities (Lion’s Arch, plus the 5 capital cities for the player races) you hear a tune in the background. The tune is the “Theme” for that particular race. The Norn theme sounds like a Swiss Alps horn, the Charr theme sounds militaristic, the Sylvari have tranquil bells, etc. This is cool, but I know how to make it USEFUL too!

In GW1, the chat window would give you a “nag” message every so often. (You have been playing for 4 hours. Please take a break.) What if the racial theme tunes chimed every hour on the hour? It would MEAN something then, and get people to glance at their clocks. (OMG! It’s TUESDAY already? What happened to Monday?)

It would also come in handy should any festivals or events be scheduled to fall on a certain hour. You could even “flash” the on-screen clock (if being displayed) in a fashion similar to the way your Personal Storyline star flashes on the mini-map when you mouseover the quest details.

Rotating Mini Map MUST have all 4 Directions!

in Suggestions

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

In the early betas, there was a compass, but no mini-map. People complained that they were constantly having to open their large map to tell where they were. So the designers took out the compass in favor of the mini-map.

But I prefer the rotating compass-style display, so I STILL have that issue.

Easy fix! PLEASE give us ALL FOUR compass directions! The single tiny “N” does not stand out, and is often concealed behind green Personal Story stars, nearby event icons, blue Commander symbols, etc. And what good is a compass when you don’t have a direction indicator?

Most other games I have played use a rotating compass, and so does my car GPS. I have tried, but just can not get used to the “static” map.

Adding indicators for East, South, and West would be an extremely simple modification, and would accomplish for me what the mini-map was supposed to cure in the first place; the necessity of having to continually open my big map to figure out where I am.

Easy fix. Huge help. Many thanks!
