Jumping puzzles should give at least a rare

POSSIBLE SOLUTION: For the Jumping Puzzles considered to be long and/or difficult, then perhaps they could put an NPC at the start who asks players to take on a little gathering quest for them. Their task would be to collect several materials that can be found easily enough along the course of the JP. Opening the chest at the end with all of the collected materials in their inventory rewards them with a guaranteed Rare item in addition to the normal payout, and the materials are automatically removed from Inventory.

The collected materials would naturally be Soulbound, and only one of each can be carried at a time. (If you tried to collect a second one, you’d get a “Sorry… you already have that material” error.) As with any other chest reward, the guaranteed Rare would be a once-per-day proposition.

I hope so. The best minis are the golems.

I love my golems too, except… the sound!

They lost their sound F/X waaaaaaay back when. I’ve reported many times and never had any acknowledgement. Only my TOY Golem still makes beeps and boops. I want to HEAR my other golems again, especially their clanking footsteps as they run to catch up with you.

Totally silent metal constructs are just… spooky. Can we get some support here for repairing the busted Golem noises?

Crafting to 400 in Cooking as a Chef gives you what? 7 or so levels? How can you get (mostly) to Level 80 by leveling up in Cooking?

Maybe I’ve been missing something all along….

I know it’s lots less these days. Like I said, I don’t craft and I’m not up-to-date on how much you gain anymore now. I know you don’t get all the way to 80 from one craft (and can’t get entirely to 80 just crafting at all anymore, I believe?).

Anyhoo… that’s not the point of the thread. We non-crafters are just raising our pitifully ignored voices again. The grass is much greener on your side of the fence, but we find that your fertilizer stinks. We want a nice lawn without having to put up with that. Maybe I can get a truckload of those pre-grown grass squares?

Sorry… I feel like I’m getting the thread off of the point, which is we would like some ways OTHER than crafting to attain the Ascended gear we want. Please don’t try to tell me “RNG” is the answer. I’m lucky to get one Exotic drop every other month. I’d hate to calculate how many centuries it would take to get a full set of Ascended gear that way in the stats that I want.

I appreciate that we can get the new armor sets as in-game rewards for playing. I’d love to see something like that to attain ascended gear more than any other way. A good reward for a good challenge.

Alternately, put a “Gear Booster” or “Ascension Crystal” in the Gem Store that bumps an exotic item up to ascended level (there go the dollar signs in ANet’s eyes! – Dear, Lord… what have I done?)

Or just plain let people SELL the ascended gear they make.

Realistically, it is actually very possible (and practical) to gain a majority of fighting experience from a professional trade such as crafting. If someone were to spend a lot of time making weapons, surely they would know how to use said weapons once they become an expert—or lv400-500. If someone where to spend a lot of time dealing with magical trinkets or enchanted clothing like the tailors do, an expert would surely be able to hold his/her own in a fight with their magical experience.

Nice try, but I don’t buy it. To get to 80 just playing takes me several weeks of fighting monsters. My Guildie can get to 80 in a day with the aid of crafting. You think that if you went out and spent several weeks in actual combat with your sword, it would be just as instructional as spending an afternoon making swords?

Does a race car mechanic who has spent a day putting together a vehicle know how to win a race just as well as a driver who has had several weeks of firsthand experience?

…Besides, it kinda falls apart when you consider that you can craft your way (mostly) to a level 80 adventurer in something like CHEF, which has very little to do with adventuring.

For two years “Nearest Enemy” has been selecting someone in front of us (for the most part. Targeting has always been a little problematic in this game). Now it is working MUCH differently. That alone is cause enough for outcry.

(Though despite numerous threads decrying the targeting problems here, in the Bugs forum, and elsewhere, I have yet to see ANet acknowledge us in any manner.)

THANK YOU!

My sentiments exactly. Everything is crafting, crafting, and more crafting. Crafting even lets you level your character faster than playing. Why should I go out and fight monsters for a few weeks to get to level 80 while a guy can sit behind a crafting table and get there in less than a day? How does crafting teach someone how to fight? That just isn’t right if you ask me.

I can live with the faster leveling. (I have all but one of the Professions to 80 already). It seems pretty unfair and unrealistic, but I can live with it since I don’t need to level anymore for the most part.

As far as Ascended Gear goes though, I wish to heck they’d make it sellable. The crafters could rake in a lot of money (another advantage to crafters) and the non-crafters could finally have a source to get “the good stuff”.

"Nearest Enemy" Is Literally Nearest (+more)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hamfast.8719

Seeing as the meaning of “nearest enemy” is quite straight-forward I have expected from the start that selecting the “nearest enemy” meant exactly and literally the nearest enemy. As such I’m glad that’s exactly what it does.

Not quite… RED text targets are defined as enemies. YELLOW text targets are NEUTRALS. As often as not, the first thing I get when I select “Nearest Enemy” is a neutral target. If the keybind were for “Nearest Target”, then it would be working properly.

“NEXT ENEMY” and “PREVIOUS ENEMY” are also misnamed, since they also target Yellow Neutrals. Plus, they are wildly erratic in their selection process. I can’t see any pattern to how they choose “next”. It seems totally random, and your “Next Enemy” can often wind up being something not only offscreen, but out of range as well. VERY broken.

Apparently WvWers are okay with the September changes, but it is making life miserable for PvEers. Stop CHANGING things, and give us OPTIONS instead!

ANet alienates soooooo many players by completely changing things instead of giving us options. They could have added the Outfit system for people who wanted to wear Town Clothes in combat, and kept the old Town Clothes system alongside it for RPers. They could give experienced players the option to NOT use the NPE, and get on with play as normal. They could have 3 sizes of Megaservers (low population, medium population, and high population) to let people play in zones with the crowd sizes that they picked at the start of the game. They could have kept “Server Pride” and a sense of community if they had left the major cities OFF the Megaserver.

Give us OPTIONS! Especially with something as central to the game as targeting!

He didn’t say Glint’s Challenge because that doesn’t exist. He probably said GIANT Challenge. During the escort part of that event Veteran Giants spawn and it’s the easiest way to get the Giant Killer achievement (they are vets not champions). Once the golem is out of the swamp area, no more Giants spawn, so the player asked you to let the golem die quickly to reset the event, so he reset and giant killing can continue.

Possibly.

It’s still a shame that there are places where people minding their own business are unwittingly (or not) interfering with other people. That is the crux of my post.

I logged in to casually do my Dailies. The “Protect the U.N.I.T. Golem” event in Brisban Wildlands rolled by, so I decided to join in for my Daily Events. Someone started shouting at me to let him die so the “Glint’s Challenge” would reset faster. (Part of this season’s Living Story, I assume? I haven’t done much of that yet).

I obliged, since events are a dime a dozen, and I walked away. I didn’t need this particular event for anything. But come on, ANet! Haven’t you learned your lesson yet about giving people incentive to fail events? What happened to that lofty aspiration of yours to make players glad to see other players on the map? Instead, you jam more and more of us together into each zone, and then create situations where we are at cross-purposes.

Please fix whatever “Glint’s Challenge” timing issue is dependent upon the U.N.I.T. dynamic event, and then STOP doing things that force players to be at odds with each other. It’s bad enough that my selection of a lower population world was rendered superfluous by the MegaServer, without also having to walk on eggshells around everyone I see as well.

Scarlet didn’t take a realistic time to build the Breachmaker or the Kessex Flower Tower. So at the very least cleaning up the rubble would not be unrealistic in the face of that precedent. And I am more than ready to go beyond mere cleanup and get on with (gasp!) rebuilding.

their artists can either draw you new maps like silverwastes or they can redraw old maps like la

they dont have enough manpower or budget for both

which do you pick?

Well that’s a bit presumptuous and ridiculous. Have you attended some company manpower and budget meetings? Or are you just saying the first thing that came into your head in order to post something negative?

This company is geared towards releasing new content every two weeks. And despite the fact that they know their work will often be gone in a short time, they have still managed to produce some very nice settings. I have every faith that they can do this, and I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to hear that they already have “New LA” mostly ready to be deployed.

Between the Megaserver and the physical loss of Tyria’s social center, the game is darker and lonelier than ever. We need a bright spot for morale’s sake.

Hamfast.8719

“Tyria” is an old Dwarvish word. It apparently translates into the common tongue as “Scarlet’s Junkyard”.

I fully understand that they are trying to show us that the world physically changes… that it’s not static. They want it to feel “alive”.

So change it again! Clean up the mess! Everything is being destroyed, but nothing is being cleaned up (much less rebuilt). We’ve lived almost half of the game’s existence amongst Scarlet’s rubble. It doesn’t feel like a “living world” when so much of it looks dead.

There’s tons and tons of raw materials free for the taking in Kessex Hills and Lion’s Arch to build some fantastic cities. Make the world feel like a place we’d fight to protect.

For those of you who point to “realism”, and say “give them time”, I say phooey on you! Was it realistic that Scarlet built all of those monstrous structures in almost no time at all? Without the backing of several cities worth of people that the good guys have? …in total secrecy?

There have been lots of changes to this game since the beginning. Many of those have been hugely controversial. But the beauty and realism of the artwork are amongst the most unanimously positive aspects of the game. Stop destroying the one characteristic that almost everyone agrees is done right.

Wintersday is almost upon us. The most magical season of all is coming. Give us back the gift of our beautiful world. Please. Then perhaps the Durmand Priory scholars can reassess their translation of the word “Tyria”.

forced to change name before playing

As reported by GM Talon in the Account Issues Support sub-forum:

The primary reason behind this is to eliminate the potential for impersonation of these characters and/or an ArenaNet employee. Some of the more pronounced character names were already in our naming filter for this reason (such as Ogden, Kormir, Vizier Khilbron, etc.), but other character names that we thought were in the filter actually were not. This action was set in motion to create that consistency across all prominent NPCs from both Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2.

A few rotten apples are using these names to pass themselves off to the gullible as ArenaNet employees for their own nefarious ends. Isn’t that always the way of things? A few unscrupulous idiots ruining the fun for everyone.

Spellcasters especially would benefit from older-looking faces. Wizards and Witches are often thought of as older, due to the length of time it takes for them to polish their craft. Although the occasional older warrior makes a nice addition as well, giving them a “veteran” or “old army General” look.

Perhaps hair highlights? The possibility of gray coming in around the temples? (The younger crowd would probably get a kick out of crazy bright colored streaks in their hair as well). Beards could use some attention as well. Most of them look very artificial.

This is a mystery that extends back to the first year of Guild Wars 1 Prophecies when our Halloween witches hats made us bald. Many, many players have suggested they give us dyable hair sticking out from underneath, but our pleas have always fallen upon deaf ears. I’m pretty sure Lex Luthor is the CEO of ANet.

EDIT: Then again, my male Asura who owns the top hat is already bald, so giving us artificial hair would bite him in the caboose. They would need to make the headgear recognize what hairstyle we chose, or give us several top hats/whatnot to select from. (My Charr wouldn’t care much for forced sideburns either.)

Gaming mouse for GW2?

Hamfast.8719

I don’t understand how people need expensive “gaming” this and that. I’m using a TrackPoint to play this game. If you don’t know what that is, it’s the little dot in the middle of the keyboard on business laptops.

You can play sports in your backyard (gaming) and have lots of fun. But the more dedicated you are, the more “professional” equipment you need to get that little extra edge. Would you play organized football without padding? Would you professionally race cars in a VW Beetle? (Herbie doesn’t count! ) Would you run the Ironman in your work shoes? It can be done, but you won’t be as likely to win, and it will be a struggle in the long run just to keep up.

For me, marathon gaming sessions have led to better mice, better keyboards, better chairs, better headphones, and better gaming computer components. It all depends on how serious you take your gaming. Nothing hard to understand about that at all.

Here’s what I suggested they do. Easy fix!

So the main issue is that you don’t want unscrupulous players passing themselves off as official ANet employees?

Simple solution:

Add a new NPC to each major city near the bank. His nametag will display Safe Otto [Safety Commissioner]. It will also display the ANet logo just like an actual employee of ArenaNet.

When you talk to him, his dialogue will point out the logo, and explain that anyone without this logo is not an official representative of the company.

Simple! (And if anyone already has the name “Safe Otto”, they will be okay to keep it since the restriction against using NPC names can now be lifted).

You’re welcome.

EDIT: You could also make ANet employees much more visible. I have never seen anyone flying the logo. REQUIRE your employees to fly the logo while on the clock, and encourage them to do so while playing at home. (Give them an auto-block ability for whispers from anyone not on their friends list, along with a polite message informing the whisperer that his message didn’t go through). If they were commonplace, then the logo tipoff would be obvious, and they’d be harder to impersonate.

…And yes, I had a GW1 Monk named “Safe Otto”

Gaming mouse for GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hated the Naga. Didn’t feel right, and there were too many buttons in one place. I wound up disabling many or giving duplicate functions to buttons. I used to like Razer, and they make a quality-feeling product. But they burn out fast. I went through a ton before I gave up on the company.

MUCH better for me is the Corsair Vengeance M90 mouse:
http://www.corsair.com/en-us/vengeance-m90-performance-mmo-rts-laser-gaming-mouse
Plenty of programmable buttons, but much better organized so that you don’t have to think about what button you’re pushing. The design is plain more efficient and the quality is super high. This is a heavy mouse, but not a huge palm-filling monster. (I am a “fingertip control” mouser… I hate palming the mouse. I lose too much feel that way). Very easy to program. Return your Naga before it breaks down.
______________________________

While you’re at it, I have also gone through a ton of keyboards in my day. It’s every bit as important a part of your game interaction as your mouse. Mechanical switches are the only way to go. The “feel” of the switch is up to you. There are other keyboards and keyboard manufacturers that use the CHERRY mechanical switches (Blue is the “audible click” kind. Brown has a click “feel” but less of an audible effect. Red has no click). I like the audible click, but to each his own.

My current keyboard is the Corsair Gaming K70 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard — Cherry MX Blue
http://www.corsair.com/en-us/corsair-gaming-k70-rgb-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-cherry-mx-blue

I just happen to like this keyboard for the special effects. It is the Legendary Weapon of keyboards. (See video):

You have complete control of lighting and special effects for each and every single key on this board. (two USB 2.0 ports required). It can automatically recognize what program you are using and reset the lighting and effects for each specific one. (I have a “basic” layout, and when I open GW2 it changes to highlight the keys I use the most in the colors that I want).

The K70 RGB is awesome, but the setup is NOT well documented. I finally found a nice video tutorial on YouTube and feel I have fair control over this beast now. The K95 has additional programmable control keys (I didn’t opt for them. I had a previous Corsair model with the same layout, and kept hitting them by accident. You might not. It depends on how you position your hands.)

Like the mouse, this is a super-high quality product. A nice, hefty board. But I like that, personally.

Expensive? Yeah. The mouse and keyboard together with tax will put you out about $300. But in the grand scheme of things, that’s a pittance for how long they’ll last you and how much GOOD QUALITY use you’ll get from them. (I had dinner recently at a fancy restaurant that cost a third of that. And it only lasted a couple hours.)

The only experience I can think of is the opposite one, I’m afraid. The Megaserver sounded good on paper to me at first, and I was eager to see it in action. But in practice it has nearly destroyed the game for me. I would gladly pay a monthly subscription fee to be able to play on a lower population server again, with people that I recognize. The world has become one giant zerg full of strangers. A major disappointment from my initial excitement, and lately it just seems to be getting more and more congested.

[Suggestion] Custom Outfits

I’d rather use my old Town Clothes to make a custom Outfit.

And they still need to reinstate the key-bindable instant-swap into and out of Outfits that we used to have for Town Clothes.

Are you listening ANet? The vast majority here are against particle effects and Las Vegas lights.

Now can we talk about toggles to turn off footsteps and clouds and swooshes and that sort of thing from our Legendary Weapons? (As well as one to toggle off our view of OTHER people’s effects). I’m sure more people would work on making them if we had this option.

Who came up with the "taxi" term?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

The first time I killed a World Boss I was so proud that I asked in Map Chat if there was an NPC in the game who could stuff the body for me so I could put it on display. Unfortunately, I was a pretty poor typist back then, and my shouts for a “taxidermist” were taken as “taxi to the mists”.

It was all just a big misunderstanding.

I could tell you about the “ferry” too, but it’s a politically sensitive topic to bring up.

Don’t think Instanced POIs count, but it doesn’t hurt to get ’em.

Dunno if you’re doing this or not: Don’t simply scroll out and look at the whole world, and place your trust in what hovering your pointer over each zone tells you. Way back when I was doing completion, it LIED about some of the zones I hovered my pointer over. They may still be bugged that way. Make sure you actually go to each zone and look at the stats for them individually one at a time.

Also double check zones like LA and Kessex Hills where there have been changes caused by the Living Story.

And don’t forget WvW!

Perhaps a toggle between ‘consistent feet placement’ and ‘consistent head placement’ would be a good compromise for this?

Seems like the ideal compromise.

Or better yet a SLIDER with about 7 vertical positions to choose from just like the Horizontal camera position slider we already have. (But the game should remember different settings for different characters).

Targeting Still Broken Please Fix It!

The “Target Nearest Enemy” function is not a “Target the enemy that’s in front of me” button.

Ok, fine.

Anet, please give us a “Targe Nearest Enemy” function that targets just about anything regardless of where it is just as long as it’s the ‘nearest’ thing to us (essentially what we have now).

And also please give us a “Target the Enemy that’s In Front of Me” function (essentially what we had pre-Sept patch), so when that enemy warrior is coming directly for me during a WvW zerg battle, I can EASILY hit my key bound “Target the Enemy that’s In Front of Me” button and knock him on his behind.

Anet, is that too much to ask? (You already have the code for both functions, just expose them to us in the interface so we can key bind both of them.)

It’s all about having choices.

Thank you!

No, Krypto… thank you!

Well said.

(And it would still be nice if “enemy” meant “enemy”… not “cart”.)

The special effect gives you a “metallic” sheen. That doesn’t mean you glow. It means you reflect. You need light. Chrome trim on a car doesn’t put out any light at night either, but it can be quite blinding under the sun. The stronger the light, the greater the effect.

It’s fine with me if you think Legendary Weapon particle effects are cool. I find them ridiculous and highly annoying for the most part. I support your choice to see all those F/X on your character as long as I can have a toggle to prevent me from seeing them.

Crying about not being able to target the enemy you want because it is not the one closest to you is a l2p issue. You can select creatures easily enough in pve with the mouse.

Crying? Learn to play issue? What an arrogant little troll! If you look at my posting history you’ll see I’ve been more active than you for just as long. Perhaps I’m not the “natural” uber-player that you obviously are, but I’m certainly not an inexperienced noob. So take your belittling attitude someplace else.

If you re-read my post that you responded to, you’ll notice that I have already “learned to play” with the “nearest enemy” targeting change. I am regularly TABBING once or twice after selecting “nearest enemy” in order to select something other than the CART hiding off screen at a range of 1200 to my left. (I swear that thing follows me to every corner of Tyria). But this is an inefficient work-around that leaves me slow to respond to real threats as I work to avoid creating new unnecessary aggro.

Restore the old targeting, at the very least. Take YELLOW objects out of the equation. That CART may be my biggest annoyance, but it is not my enemy.

Here, BlackLeech… you use your mouse to select a target in this mess:

Constant Nagging About Changing Maps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hamfast.8719

It removes all my bloodlust that I have and have to start from zero again on the new map.

You lose the buffs you want, and gain buffs you don’t necessarily want. I personally NEVER want the speed buff, because it messes up my jumping.

Besides, the last thing I want is to leave my nice, lag-free map and go to zergville where everything dies within seconds of spawning and I risk disconnect if I dare join a World Boss fight. I always stay until it forces me out.

Ever since the September Patch, targeting “Nearest Enemy” almost exclusively targets something offscreen. (More often than not, a non-enemy). I have become proficient at immediately TABBING to the next enemy every time in order to select the guy in front of me.

“Nearest Enemy” should be RED, never yellow. (This has never been the case in GW2 unfortunately). It used to select targets in our field of view for the most part. Now, as I already mentioned, it practically never selects a target I can see on my screen. That is the most important thing I want restored to the way it was.

And the people here are right – TAB is very finicky. It does not start close and work its way further out. Very often it will select targets OUT OF RANGE before one a lot closer.

Summary: Restore “Nearest Enemy” targeting so that is selects mostly enemies on our screen instead of off screen. (This just gets us back to where we were before the September Patch. If you want to see me smile, go the extra mile and take yellow targets (neutrals) out of the “Nearest Enemy” and “Next Enemy” rotation. Neutrals are not enemies).

NPE 2 months later - How do you feel?

NPE was completely unnecessary in the first place and a waste of precious ressources. Instead they could have fixed some of the countless bugs which are still haunting this game, but noooo. They had to screw something up which worked perfectly fine.

Don’t fix it if it isn’t broken.

[Suggestion] Create a Skritt Backpack

The Replica Annoy-o-Tron

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hamfast.8719

I was considering the Job-o-Tron for my Asuran Engineer, but unfortunately it continues in the great GW2 tradition of backpacks being woefully teeny-tiny on characters of that race. It looks like he has an ostrich egg on his back. No sale (on any backpacks for my Asuran characters) until such time as I no longer need a magnifying glass to see if he’s wearing it.

And yes, it would be best if Job-o-Tron were only audible to the player wearing it.
