I will always support these AP Chest improvement threads when they come around. They flat suck rocks right now. I really miss the chance at weapons and armors (such as various Dungeon pieces, or the Stalwart armor, etc.)

Please don’t bother making it retroactive; missing a few from the past isn’t going to kill anyone. That would probably be a pain in the butt for you, and I want you to want to do this for us as soon as possible. So let’s just keep it simple and change the contents of future AP chests. (Perhaps do like at the end of a Personal Story quest – give us a CHOICE of items, so the PvEers and PvPers, and WvWers can select what fits their desires best).

It’s a Reward Chest. Make us feel like we’ve been REWARDED!

Is the maize balm rat farm an exploit?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The BBB would take the complaint and likely use it as a means of encouraging Anet to pay to become a member.

As an example,

I used to manage a clothing store. A customer attempted to, “return,” a car tire that she had been using for several years. The store never carried car tires. Ever. Clothing store. Even if we had, the customer admitted that she had been driving on the tire for close to a decade until it had recently blown out.

We did not accept the tire as a return.

The customer went to the BBB. They contacted us. We explained the situation. They went back and forth between us and the customer, suggesting in increasingly stronger terms that this situation might just disappear if we were members of the BBB. In the end the customer would not retract her complaint and so, despite every bit of proof that our clothing store, which had not existed at the time she claimed to have purchased the tire there, had not sold her the car tire the complaint was counted against us.

My final contact with the BBB rep was a reminder about how much more “smoothly” the situation could have gone if we had opted to pay for membership.

Nope. Sorry. I don’t buy that. The BBB is not some sort of underworld protection racket as you seem to want us to believe. If the BBB gave black marks to companies for obviously improper reasons such as that, they would have NO credibility. It would be super-easy for competing companies to give each other negative reports.

Your little fiction aside, I’m done here. I wasn’t interested in the topic when I first posted. Only curious why it had gone on so long. Some of you have taken this into the realm of the absurd, and I’m beginning to feel like I’m arguing with a drunk. Get mad at me if you want, but I don’t plan to return to this thread. And I’m not gonna lock horns over something that doesn’t matter to me. I was just giving you one outsider’s opinion of your issue, but I should probably never have done that. I’m blowing this turkey stand. Peace.

This makes people that don’t have the instance buy a new account to farm.

You’re joking, right? You really think people are buying new accounts just to farm this one spot for 2 weeks?

Since this brings double standards to issues that might resolve in your account being blocked and gives an unfair advantage to a sub set of the player base May be its time to take it off Anets hand and submit your comments To the BBB, under terms or quality of service issues.
http://www.bbb.org/western-washington/business-reviews/computer-software-publishers-and-developers/arenanet-in-bellevue-wa-22017235

Double standards? Better Business Bureau? You want to report this to the BBB? You can’t use the Maize Balm anyplace else in Tyria? You can only use it on the rats in that one place?

Bringing this to the BBB would be akin to calling 911 because your dog got lost. Your complaint would be scrapped, and your ears would burn from all the laughter behind your back.

Maybe this one farming spot is pretty easy/quick. But there’s nothing at all preventing you from finding another spot. (I’m sure some people have already staked out places with tightly-packed Ambient creatures that they haven’t announced for fear of nerfing.)

I’m the first to admit that ANet makes a lot of moves that I don’t like. They’ve totally destroyed some of my favorite things in both GW1 and GW2. But you guys are starting to get WAY out of touch with reality when you talk like this. Your Maize Balm works as advertised. The Halloween event works the same way for everybody. Just because some enterprising fellow put two and two together AFTER you already did the Halloween event and came up with a good farm doesn’t mean ANet is screwing you over.

The 10th response to the OPs question (9 days ago!) was from ANet, who said in no uncertain terms that this is not an exploit.

So how come this thread keeps getting shuffled to the top?

Hamfast, you disappoint me. You’re usually so reasonable.

It’s a serious gap in equality as far as money-making goes for this event. But if you really think that part of the player base being locked out of the farm is perfectly reasonable and not worth questioning, then that’s your right. The thread is being bumped because creating a new thread to discuss the repercussions of this decision would likely get merged into this one. We know the OP’s question has been answered. We know that the farm will end on Tuesday, and the time to do something about it has long since passed. But it’s certainly an interesting precedent.

Sorry to disappoint – my attention was only drawn to this subject by this thread popping to the top again and again. (I had never bothered with trying it. I’m not much on farming events). So I YouTubed it out of curiosity (and to find out where to go). The first (and only) video I watched was this one, showing how anyone can get inside even after having done the mission:

(Turn your audio down! Why do people insist on using loud, bad music in their videos?)

I never read through all 4 pages of this thread. I just figured that after so much discussion you guys surely must’ve known that anyone can supposedly get in.

Under the belief that anyone can get in whenever they like, my conclusion was that the difference between this farm and the “failure to complete the event” farms was that some people were getting hurt in those, while this farm doesn’t spoil anything for other players.

My conclusion was based on the information in the video… is it wrong? Doesn’t his method work?

This isn’t so much a goodbye thread, as a well wishing to everyone who is still playing. I hope they finally fix all the havoc they have wrought.

All the best.

Good luck, Guzzi… I’ve felt that way myself way more than I should. Hate to see yet another old-timer go. It’s happened so much lately. Check back in from time to time (especially if you find something comparable but better supported that you’d like to share with us!) I won’t ask for your stuff. That was an old, stale joke the first time anyone said it. Besides, you can always come back (unless you delete your account entirely), and almost anything you have is probably account bound anyway.

Because that response was pretty much completely at odds with how they have previously defined exploits/unintentional advantages and is highly hypocritical.

It is no different from event exploits that were being purposely failed to be farmed, where their response was essentially that events are intended to be completed and shouldn’t reward failure. In fact, I’d say this one is much worse given people who have already completed it no longer have access to it unless they perform some gymnastics. Much like the mental gymnastics you have to come up with to act like this isn’t highly hypocritical on Anet’s part.

“Failing” this doesn’t affect other players though, since it’s instanced content. BIG difference if you ask me. Nobody is getting “hurt” here.

Disabling the animations globally took far less time than re-implementing them individually will require.

Leaving them enabled would have taken even less time. They weren’t hurting gameplay or anything, so I don’t get why they needed to be disabled at all. Can’t they be re-enabled in the meantime while we wait for the fix that keeps them from playing during cut-scenes?

As I mentioned in a previous post, other races have emotes that could be “distracting” if seen at the wrong time in a cut-scene. So this “fix” is going to take longer than expected because it will have to apply to all the races and sexes. Don’t make us wait all that time emote-less! Turn it on again!

PvE and Adrenaline

in Warrior

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

Please keep in mind that I PvE for the most part, and this thread is written with those situations in mind.

My gripe is that Adrenaline starts to disappear way too fast. And seems to disappear way faster than I build it up.

Many times I have been in the middle of a huge fight – enemies on all sides. When I drop my current opponent, my first thought is to find the next most logical opponent. (This is not necessarily the closest opponent.) But before I can do so, my adrenaline starts to go away. Here I am surrounded by bad guys, with every intention of closing with someone else right away. Yet my Adrenaline always seems to reset to zero before I can get to my target of choice, even though I would certainly classify myself as “still in combat”.

It frustrates me partly because many times on my other characters I have left a combat to switch weapons or whatnot, and it tells me I can’t because I am still in combat. I know it’s a game glitch. But I can stand there for many long minutes and still be considered “in combat”, while my Warrior can be surrounded by targets and lose his adrenaline because he hasn’t swung in 2 seconds.

I am asking ANet to consider restoring some idle time before Adrenaline loss begins. Something closer to the GW1 time perhaps.

I don’t know about the other aspects of the game. Maybe PvP and WvW are okay with Adrenaline as it stands; I don’t know. But this change has all but made me retire my Warrior who I loved to play. I have spent a lot of gold and time trying my best to adapt. I’ve tried new skills. New Traits. New Weapons and Armor. Entire new builds. But it has proved fruitless so far and I’m getting to the point of giving up on him entirely.

I don’t think I’m alone when I propose that it would be PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE and probably much easier to balance the game if they treated the different game types differently. GW1 had some skills that worked differently between PvE and PVP, and that worked out great. Maybe that’s the solution?

The relationship of MMO forums to player base has been studied. And in MMOs like this where your forum login is the same as your game login, metrics can be gathered by the developers regarding the type of players that are posting.

Yeah, fine. They can tell what percent of players visit the forums, and what percentage of those post. I’m sure there are other physical stats to be gathered as well.

But they can’t tell (for example) what percentage of the entire gaming community likes the changes brought about by the Megaserver. They can only look at actual posts and hope that they are representative of the whole community. And sorting through that is a manual job, with some posters chiming in multiple times.

At the end of the day, almost all they can do is see which wheels are the squeakiest. This particular thread (and it’s sister thread in the Bugs forum) have been squeaky enough to elicit some response. So even though it’s not a game-breaking issue, it’s pretty obvious that it is still important to a lot of forum posters. Your guess is as good as mine as to whether that translates to the community as a whole.

anyone who thinks that just because the majority of people in one thread say something that equals the majority of players in the game is mistaken. It is common knowledge among all MMOs that only a very small percentage of all MMO players participate in the forums.

I said “the majority of the players”. If you inferred it meant the majority of players in the game, and not in the thread, then you are making assumptions.

Another assumption is that the people participating in the forums are not representative of the community as a whole. Sure, we’re a small percentage, but neither you nor I can say whether or not the distribution of opinions here effectively represents the whole of the gaming community. Until they find a way to get every player’s thoughts, then the people who do take time to make their thoughts known are going to be the only resource the Developers have to gauge how the various aspects of their product are received.

In this case, I find it not outside the realm of possibility that a WoodenPotatoes video may have been at least partly influential in getting these emotes removed since he has a larger, more visible audience than the rest of us. Although I’m sure his intent was not to have them entirely removed from the game either.

Even if I agreed that the emotes were criminally out of place in certain cut scenes, why did they have to be completely removed from all aspects of the game until a fix could be made? What about the other various races “bored/killing time” animations? What if an Asura cracks his knuckles during a beloved character’s death scene? Or a Norn smashes his fist into his palm as if itching for a fight? Why weren’t those removed as well?

Complete removal in the first place was a ridiculous response. Given that it will supposedly take awhile for a fix to be implemented, I am asking that they turn the emotes back ON while we wait. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable request.

I don’t pretend to understand how selling dungeon runs equates to less play time and therefor less money in ANet’s pockets. And I’m sure you don’t spend many sleepless nights worrying about the number of scam reports they get everyday.

Which leads me to conclude that your real gripe is that you are seeing more dungeon selling groups in the LFG than groups wanting to actually play the dungeon.

So instead of trying to save us from this terrible, godless capitalism, why don’t you find a Guild that will play dungeons with you? Then you won’t even need to open the LFG tool.

Dungeon Skins? Dungeon Runs?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

I mostly solo PvE because I like to go at my own pace. I have very little dungeon experience, and don’t want to slow a party down or get kicked because of it. I am not against trying one of the “dungeon mentor” groups, but I really don’t feel dungeons are “my thing”. I just don’t like working in a group very much. (Don’t get me started on how I feel zergs are ruining PvE).

My problem is that I have a passion for skins. There are some dungeon skins I’ve wanted a long time. I feel that by the time I’ve “graduated” from Dungeon Mentor school for a particular path, I’ll have enough tokens to get the skin I want, and never need to go back. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time like that either.

Which brings me to “Dungeon Runs”. First off… what exactly is a dungeon run? How exactly does a dungeon run work? Why do people pay for them? Do they get tokens, or treasure chests, or is it just to complete the Dungeon Master achievement? If I can get tokens this way, how many per run? And what can I expect to pay per run? What’s the best advice on how to go about finding a run and avoid being scammed?

Options? What’s my best bet to get a few skins from various Dungeons when I really don’t expect to be doing them after I get what I want? (Although you never know… if I am steered down the path of learning the Dungeons, maybe I’ll find that I like them after all.)

I loved the Plains of Ashford one. When time expired I was underwater surrounded by sharks, but since I was a bad guy by that time they left me alone. When I logged back in to that character for the next Beta Weekend the sharks promptly chewed me to pieces before I even materialized on the screen.

Not sure it was BW1 though… wasn’t the Norn “Great, Laggy, Particle-Effecty Hunt” in lower Wayfarer Foothills #1?

Anyhoo, I never thought to get screen caps until the final Beta Weekend. We were all “Secret Agents” trying to wipe out the other teams. As you can see from the picture, they dressed us in the Pirate Outfit with Aviator Sunglasses (a combination no longer possible since Outfits are extremely limiting) and an Asuran rifle of some sort. Go Red Team!

The timestamp on my pictures say it was after 2:20 AM… I enjoyed every second of those weekends and was listed amongst the walking dead at work on Monday).

Thanks for looking into the female human idle animations, Gaile! Any yet word on whether or not they’re likely to fix the Terrace and the Airship so you aren’t kicked out if you log in there?

Hey, it’s not just the stretching that’s gone (left picture). We also lost the hands-on-hips, kicking the dirt animation (right picture). Is that too sexy/girly for you? I want ’em both back.

We see the Zephyrites getting shot down, and we assume that they somehow discovered or maybe even carried Glint’s offspring.

Don’t be too sure of that. I’m pretty sure my GW1 characters smashed all of Glint’s crystal eggs. (Don’t blame me… it wasn’t my idea make it the Mission Bonus.)

As a concerned parent, I questioned the “Teen” rating of Guild Wars 2 when I first saw the human female stretching animation. The blatant thrusting forth of the bosom, the tightening of fabric as the elbows went above the shoulders, the… oh, nevermind. I’ll come back to this later. My daughter is watching a Disney Princess movie right now and needs to be supervised…

I will see if I can follow up on this. I may not get an answer today, since it’s Friday night, but I will see if there’s any info on this to share.

How’d it go yesterday (Monday), Gaile? Did you find out what the holdup is on addressing this? We would really love to see the animations restored!

Okay, the “argument” about the Greatsword is pretty stupid and useless. If you really want to get technical, it’s Marjory’s sister’s greatsword. But who cares, right? And if you want to get technical, there is no “China” or “Japan” in Tyria, so the weapon is pure Tryian. Not a Midol or Noodle-chi or whatever. But who cares, right? And if you want to get technical, most of the greatswords in GW2 bear a greater resemblance to a surfboard than any blade ever use in real life. But who cares, right?

None of your “obvious” observations matter to the topic at hand, which is things that make GuzziHero demoralized and angry. I am with him on several points, though for different reasons.

I despise the Megaserver, though I am in a Guild that is too small to be able to afford to do Guild Events. My beef is the incredible overpopulation in most areas that cause lag and super-easy boss takedowns. I never feel challenged anymore, and never feel as if my contribution is noticed.

I have only one Profession not at 80 yet, and that character is on permanent hold until the Personal Story is repaired. And I’m willing to give trait unlocks a try, though after 7 other trips without it, it’s a bit annoying to have to do the extra work now. (I might turn out to appreciate that it gives me some goals to shoot for – we’ll see). But please don’t go on about “just buy them”. A great majority of the player base does not have that kind of gold to spend, especially new players.

I don’t, however, believe Chinese issues change the game on Western servers. We’re completely separate, right? They have different armors and even different storylines, and probably a whole lot more. In GW1 the rumor was that they stopped including the mini Panda because it insulted the Chinese in some way. Yet they have it here in GW2. So I don’t buy all of this “It’s China’s fault” stuff either. The only reason we’re seeing the new Chinese witches outfit and some other Chinese themed stuff if obviously that they already have it implemented in China! It’s easier for them to share with us than to make something new. I bet China gets “new” Outfits and armors added to their game that have been with us in the West since day one.

Mini Gray Cat

Yes… a cat would be best. The GW2 “kittens” are horribly deformed and look totally unrealistic looking. And pretty much the same size as a full grown cat anyway. They creep me out.

On the other hand, I imagine GW1 is dirt-cheap, and the mini Orange Tabby is the easiest to acquire in your Hall of Monuments with only 9 points.

Oh, on topic…

Dr. Strange — I’m going to ask about the mechanics. There might be a reason for this, but I’m just not sure. (If someone else comes up with a likely explanation, please feel free to post! Otherwise, I’ll see if I can find out why it’s working as it does, and if it is working as intended.)

We never heard anything back on this, Gaile…

Were you able to find out last week if there’s a technical reason that characters returning to the Terrace and the Airship need to be kicked out if they logged out from there? It can be a real annoyance.

That tacky female stretch was completely immersion breaking every time I saw it, and I hope I never have to see it again.

I can’t tell if you’re trolling or not.

He’s trolling you, but it did bump the thread again. So a big “Thank you!” goes out to Lomopop.

He’s completely immersed in the game; he is “Pete Moss”, Sylvari Ranger extraordinaire! Hmm… there’s a female human over there. She’s standing still… she’s standing still… she’s stand… OH! She’s stretching!

Now where was I? Dang it! I forgot what I was doing! Guess I’ll just have to start over. Stupid game!

If you ask me, that’s a stretch of the imagination.

Nearly 8 Long Years

I guess a Tyrian game-year must be 4380 days then. I wonder if they divide that up into 144 months?

The underlying sentiment remains. I’d like to see some progress. Lion’s Arch was the central social hub. With LA gone, and the Megaserver in charge of the universe, I have felt like a stranger in a strange land.
