Yes. It becomes really irritating when you also have a new hairstyle to go along with it that is as stiff as a helmet.
No contest: my Dragon Emblem T-Shirt won as a prize during Pink Day in LA. (An in-game item that is a T-Shirt with the GW2 Dragon Logo on it). It garnered more attention than a Legendary Weapon, and was far more rare. Now it is a horribly matched full set of clothing in TONIC form that embarrasses me to wear (it has been paired with bright red boots now). If they would at least turn those Tonics into Outfits, then I could salvage something of it with a little dye.
Your toons are so ugly…. ew!
Troll much? Give the keyboard back to Mommy. It’s time for bed.
Have you switched to a full DPs setup lately? Are your Illusions traited for more health and/or running Signet of Illusions?
I haven’t made ANY changes, so presumably nothing should be different. Hadn’t used her much since Patch #2. Yet there are times now when my clones are totally ignored and I get swarmed like a department store on the day after Thanksgiving.
EDIT: Everything is fine again today. Maybe this is an odd day/even day sort of thing. I will have to be extra careful after reset!

The Guardian trait Renewed Justice is supposed to recharge my Virtue of Justice with every kill.
It has never worked when I’ve been in The Battle of Claw Island, and I noticed it wasn’t working for me the other day in The Source of Orr either. I can’t recall issues outside of some Personal Stories.
I refer you to this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Do-Clones-have-an-Odor/first#post4442645
(Please note, I am using the word “clones” to represent clones, phantasms, illusions, and whatever else the game calls the various duplicates a Mesmer can make.)
I have a level 80 Mesmer, so I’ve been playing her long enough to know how my clones work. I am accustomed to my clones getting pretty much equal attention from my enemies. Sometimes they get attacked, sometimes I get attacked.
Lately, I have logged in to a couple sessions where my clones aren’t getting noticed in the slightest. I even did an experiment where I set two clones upon a bad guy and did NOT attack him myself. For over a full minute I did nothing but run away, and try to interpose my clones between myself and the bad guy. The entire time he TOTALLY ignored my clones who were attacking, and just kept coming relentlessly after me who was doing nothing.
For the most part, my clones do minimal damage. I use them primarily as decoys so I can be relatively unhindered while I cast “the good stuff”. Now they aren’t even doing that anymore.
Please tell me this is a bug and not the new “working as intended” state of clones. I noticed this first a couple days ago, then the next day everything seemed fine, and now it’s back.
Nope. Busted again.
I went back again this evening. Everyone was totally ignoring my clones/phantasms/etc.
I experimented a little. I had two clones out fighting a guy, and I wasn’t attacking at all. I was running away. The bad guy religiously followed me for well over a full minute (before I put a stop to it), completely ignoring any clones that got in between us. This one is going to the Bugs forum.
If you don’t find what you want here, then perhaps these aren’t the droids you’re looking for.
It’s specific to Risen (and some other types of enemies). I see this all the time on my Mesmer and MM Necro. Risen seem programmed to specifically target YOU above all else, ignoring the normal threat generated by your illusions and minions.
Okay, I was about to accept this as semi-reasonable. Undead are often depicted as being able to “sense” or “smell” life. I was going to ask how they responded to a Necromancer’s minions (iffy targets) and a Ranger’s pet (probable target).
But then I went back to where I had my problem. Same spot, same monsters. (I had logged out there from last time). Today the bad guys were treating me normally. That is to say, I seemed to have about as much chance of being their target as my clones. No target on just my head. So the problem was either something temporary on my end, or something that got fixed in a new build.
I’m happy. That was a bit disturbing. I’m used to being prime target numero uno in a Personal Story episode, but not in the “real” world. I wouldn’t enjoy seeing that become a trend. (Plus my Warrior sometimes-main character has been taken out of action thanks to the 9/9 Adrenaline nerf. I really didn’t need TWO characters on the sidelines.)
A lot of the new hairstyles have been like this. They’re getting sloppy – I’ve learned to rapidly rotate my character in the preview window to look for this. The only advantage I’ve seen so far is that “frozen” long hair doesn’t clip through your back item/shield when you run since it doesn’t flow outwards anymore. But it is very disconcerting to see nevertheless.
Oddly enough, the new “Wreath of Cooperation” (a Gem Store crown of laurel leaves) flops around a fair bit. It’s really disturbing to preview hairstyles and rotate the character only to have the hair remain static and the headgear stretch out of shape.
I was thinking more “Eau de Cologne”/“Odour clone”.
I like that one. People think I’m crazy, but I can appreciate a good pun.
The trick is have ur illusions hit the monter first then attack.
I’m level 80. I figured that out long ago, thanks. Never had this problem until tonight. Seriously? Nobody else has this issue? Maybe I’ll give her another try after restarting the game. Maybe I had a temporary glitch. But I tell you not ONE of my duplicates so much as made a single monster turn it’s head. Very disturbing.
There’s a pun in here somewhere…
Maybe, but if so it probably stinks. I’m totally serious, though. Do clones no longer attract the attention of enemies? ‘Cause they sure weren’t doing their job in Orr tonight.
I jumped on my Mesmer for the first time since 9/9, and went to Orr to zap out my Daily Orrian Slayer achievement.
It is NOT my imagination; I stuck around for at least a dozen kills, and every single time the monsters totally ignored my illusions/phantasms/clones and came straight at me. I even attempted to position myself so that the clones were between my enemy and myself, but it made no difference. Every time without fail they pushed past my clone and came right at me.
Don’t my illusions project an odor? Is that how the monsters know who the real Mesmer is? They’re smelling me?
This is REAL annoying. I thought part of the purpose of a clone was to help divert the enemy. Do I need to report this as a bug, or is this the new “working as intended” state?
I’ve never been to the Profession Forums before, but the destruction of Adrenaline brought me here the moment I noticed it. It was so drastic a change, I thought it had to be a bug.
My Warrior used to be one of my mains… now he’s hardly playable. It brings back horrible memories of GW1 when they totally changed the Dervish. I worked my tail off to get her back to playable form, but it never really happened. They ruined the Dervish for me.
Now it’s the Warrior. The most basic Profession of all. Every MMORPG features a Warrior. The defining “special” ability of the Warrior in GW2 is the use of Adrenaline. Only now I can’t get it up to maximum before the fight is over, and immediately after the battle it drops away faster than it was built up. Until they revert this huge mistake, I will have lost one of my main characters.
I’m not about to experiment with my Warrior the way I did with my Dervish. It is far too expensive to change builds in this game when it requires a complete armor overhaul. And then I might not be happy with the result. I know I’m not happy now.
Yeah, “go play something else” always struck me as a pretty dumb, trollish response. But the one I really hate is “TL;DR” (Too Long; Didn’t Read) when used by a topic responder. If you didn’t read the post, you’re only proving what an idiot you are by responding to it.
I did an experiment one time… I started a post with the word “Mounts” in the title. The body of my post was very brief, and said nothing pro or con on the subject. All I said was something to the effect of “I wonder how many people will jump into this conversation and scream bloody murder that we don’t need mounts because we already have waypoints”. Sure enough, within a dozen responses, those guys started cropping up, lambasting me and the horse I rode in on. Then when I pointed it out to them, I took a second round of tongue-lashing for “trying to fool them”. But I knew who the fools were.
Whether too long or very brief, there are a ton of people who don’t even try reading something before they feel the need to shove their noses into a conversation. But unfortunately being stupid isn’t a crime, so I’m sure we’ll see more of the TL;DR guys and the mindless “go play something else” folks.
No, NO, NO, N O ! ! !
Footprints and auras and trails are not “impressive”. They are stupid and ugly and totally destroy an otherwise beautiful shield. If you don’t want it, give it to me. I would LOVE to have it exactly as-is. As soon as you muck it up with all those dumb “special effects” it turns into a circus sideshow instead of an impressive piece of equipment.
I am sure many Prophecies owners would pitch a fit if their hard-earned item was changed. They got it because they liked it just the way it was. We need more Legendaries that aren’t from Las Vegas.
Episode 4 has not been released yet. It doesn’t start until November 4th, after the Halloween holiday is over.
At the very beginning of the Personal Story episode “Romke’s Final Voyage”, there is a cut-scene between my character and the ghost of Captain Romke. There was no audio track and no “lip-flap”. After that, and throughout the rest of the episode, I couldn’t get Captain Romke to shut up. Very talkative, that fellow. (After the initial bout of silence).
The hooves are a material component required by my female Elementalist to cast a speed boost spell and say “I can outrun a Centaur!”
As soon as a spell is added that improves hearing, she’ll search out those Inquest ears and say “I can out-listen an Asura!”
Please don’t ask what she would say if she was required to go out and collect a piece of Skritt.
This was fixed briefly, and is now back again.
UPDATE:
I did this PS on another character. Trahearne is the main culprit. He really doesn’t want to follow you unless you go back and stand in front of him. This happens pretty much through the whole episode. If you get a little ahead of him he’ll just stand there.
The ending cut-scene arrived at the proper point this time, after killing all the bad guys plus Risen Havroun Gretchen.
But Trahearne really needs to take a bravery pill or something.
Must have been based on when I purchased the kit as to what was in it.
Hmm… that’s why I said what I said. I almost always have a normal kit (Hairstyle or Total Makeover) in my Inventory/Storage, and they have always updated when they announce new hairstyles. I don’t recall ever having one that didn’t.
They’re getting lazy. The last few hairstyle releases don’t “flow” as you move. They are static. (But I bought the “Wreath of Cooperation” and the leaves on that thing flow all over the place when I move.)
You probably have a VERY small number of people who can answer that question for certain. But if you want to give the Contract to me, I’ll let you know!
I would say yes, it probably updates whenever they add new hairstyles. The normal Hairstyling Kits (and Total Makeover Kits) do. The added-on styles show FIRST in the selections, and have a little STAR in the corner of the thumbnail.
Congrats! My account is probably flagged to never get one of those, because they have stats on how often I buy the regular ones. Cash cow and all that, y’know.
Achievement chests seem so poor now. After April 15th, they removed my chance of an “oddball” weapon or armor piece. (I got a couple dungeon weapons and a good portion of the light “Apostle” armor set that way). That chance always left me eager to reach the next chest. Nowadays they feel like weak Champ Bags, and I get no urge at all to push towards the next one.
I am approaching another Achievement Chest myself. They improved Personal Story rewards… I don’t suppose they’ve done anything to make the Achievement Chests feel like you’re being rewarded again? It would be nice if they restored the chance to get out-of-the-ordinary weapons and armor. Or Black Lion Keys/Weapon Tickets. Or something to bring back the anticipation.
You learn something new every day.
I have always ignored weapon sigils that activate “on weapon swap” for my Elementalist main, since they can’t swap weapons. (I have a level 80 Engineer as well, who I figured was in the same boat. But I don’t play him nearly as often).
Only now, after two years of gameplay, did I stumble across a blurb from someone that indicated my assumption might be all wrong. So I WIKIed “Weapon Swap”, and sure enough:
Right now sigils say “when you swap to this weapon while in combat”. I understand that they probably state it this way for brevity’s sake. But you don’t look at sigil tooltips very often, so couldn’t they more accurately say “when you swap to this weapon while in combat or change attunements/kits”?
Just a suggestion. A super-easy suggestion to impement that would’ve saved me two years of wallowing in ignorance.
I finished the Cathedral of Silence Personal Story episode in Orr. It gave me the same reward selection (shoulder armor) to choose from as it did only a couple of episodes previous. Stronger, I presume, but the same items. This may or may not be a bug, but it’s certainly not very imaginative.
The Personal Storyline episode Against the Corruption is really messed up.
First, Trahearne and the other NPCs didn’t seem to want to follow me. I kept moving forward and wound up fighting solo through most everything. When we got to the entrance, they talked about how there was no way around: we’d just have to fight our way through. But when I attacked, it didn’t take too long for me to realize I was alone again, and I got overwhelmed. I restarted from a waypoint, and saw that the NPCs had stopped shy of the entrance, and gotten themselves wiped out. Some careful luring let me finish off the group that killed my “support”, but for a minute they STILL didn’t want to follow me to the entrance.
Eventually, Trahearne began moving inside with me. (ONLY Trahearne? Was everyone else supposed to stay outside the crypt, or just Gretchen?) Anyhow, the two of us worked our way in to the area where Trahearne would attempt his ritual. I only defended him through a mere FOUR bad guys when the ending cutscene popped up and Trahearne got a “talk to me” star over his head. After the “end” scene, I had to fight a bunch more more bad guys, including a Vet before “Risen Gretchen” came running in along with all the NPCs we had left outside. I killed Gretchen, and THEN talked to Trahearne and selected my next course of action. (He had his “talk to me” star up the whole fight).
In a nutshell: no helper NPCs followed me. Trahearne only reluctantly came along. The ending cutscene fired off before the end. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!
I don’t often need finishers either, but Valeri The Valkyrie would certainly use something along those lines!
Another thread on this same topic said the same thing: ANet buckling under to Chinese influences. They did the same thing in GW1 when they removed the Panda mini (so glad they brought it back here!)
Political correctness is pretty annoying, eh? And I imagine it’ll make for a pretty boring, un-spooky Halloween as well. (Sigh).
Well… I guess for my play style (no WvW or PvP, and little in the way of Dungeon activity) I can see the occasional use as a way to get past trapped hallways. So I have learned a possible use for temporarily equipping a teleport, although I’ve gone 2 years getting past trapped hallways the old-fashioned way. I have very rarely had occasion in combat to wish I had another escape route (I guess I am good at not letting myself get into those situations very often). I guess I was hoping for more of a PvE use, or something that actually helped on Jumping Puzzles maybe.
Honestly they are useful for anything including PvE if you know how to use it.
Yeah, that’s what I’m asking. How can I use teleportation to good effect as either a combat or utility skill? Got a more concrete example than “anything”?
They are extremely good for closing or creating gaps in PvP, and also a good escape mechanism in WvW.
Okay… I suppose I should have specified PvE, sorry. Any reason I should ever equip a teleport skill in PvE?
What use are the various teleport skills? (Elementalist Lightning Flash. Mesmer Blink. Necromancer Necrotic Traversal. Thief Shadowstep. etc.)
As utility skills, they wont allow you to teleport to anyplace that you can’t normally access on foot without jumping or swimming. So they are no good for assisting on Jumping Puzzles or otherwise getting to difficult spots. More often than not, I don’t move an inch and that skill slot is useless until the teleport recharges.
As combat skills, they do very little for getting you out of a bind that dodging doesn’t already do. My Guardian’s #2 sword skill teleports her to her foe (from a whopping aggro range of 600), but the only advantage I can see is that it blinds her enemy. Only in rare instances can she use it to avoid an AoE. More often, I’ll lose track of what direction I’m facing when the camera shifts, and on occasion I’ll get stuck inside a piece of scenery (I’ve learned to be very careful where I use it).
So I ask you: what are teleports good for? Does anyone use them to an advantage in some way? Why should I ever equip one of these skills? Teleporting sounds cool, but I have rarely found a use for it in this game due to the (usually) limited range and the (always) restrictive rules about where I can teleport.
I am Clawfford, a mighty Charr warrior! Quite naturally, I smell like raw meat.
In response to your other questions:
It’s actually called “Nearest Enemy” in the control options. That should mean that only RED opponents are selected since yellow targets are considered neutral.
If they followed their own terminology, we would have to actively click on a yellow object to target it. Fine by me!
Edit: This was in response to Odyssey’s previous post. Couple people made it in while I was writing.
That’s fair. No matter how they’re told that _ is a major problem, if it’s not affecting them directly, they’re never going to be happy giving something up to fix someone else’s problem.
It’s basically how I feel about Town Clothes, for an example from another situation. I was perfectly happy with how they were, but I lost out on that one because other people weren’t.
You can give people something and then take it away. You might even have a good reason for it. But those people are rarely going to be happy about it, and they have a right not to be.
THANK YOU! I was about to say that myself. I’m still sore over that, and they don’t seem inclined to even do anything as simple as turning the Clothing Tonics into Clothing Outfits. I still haven’t purchased any new gems since I got my TC refund. So while I was once a big monetary contributor to the game, their shortsightedness has made me a no-contributor for 5 months now.
There’s still a problem of minis disappearing when you make a wardrobe change (dying or transmuting armor). The moment you click APPLY, they are removed.
Not minor for me. I’m never satisfied with my colors, so I’m always messing with my dyes. I’ve already mentioned this bug in numerous threads hoping they see at least one of them and get to work on it when they come back to the office Monday morning.
They are mostly back. Still bugged. Any time you make a Dye color change, your mini will disappear the moment you click APPLY.
They also disappear if you get into a big fight with lots of other people around. This is fine, and even sensible given all the confusion from particle effects these days. But they don’t want to come back again when things have calmed down afterwards. I waypointed across the map to a quiet spot, and still had to dig into my Hero Panel to reactivate my mini.
Several hours after my post I saw the game update notes that confirms the addition of these bad boys. I don’t mind the addition of more challenging content, but it has to be scaled to the number of players. When I first saw the Champ behind the wall of Vets, I figured the Zerg must have appeared behind me and elevated the level of the contest. But when I looked back, there were only a couple more people in town beside myself. No sensible scaling was going on here.
I can handle multiple Vets. I can often solo a Champ if I can take away his support. But this tide rolled in unexpectedly and it looked like more waves appearing behind it. Unless the players organize a regular defense, then whenever I see “Nebo Terrace is Under Attack!” I will let it get buried and then re-take it from the occupying forces from now on.
Markis is dead. I killed him. After I killed him I hunted down and destroyed his religious sect. It was glorious.
What are you… a Klingon?
If you dye your armor, they will disappear the moment you click APPLY. If you make little dye changes as often as I do, maybe that’s where you’re losing yours. They also will disappear in a big, crowded Boss fight. Mine didn’t come back. Had to reapply. But still worlds better now.
I was that Warrior, Zera! I thank you for your service, but it pains me to tell you that Guardsman Linro turned out to be quite the unscrupulous character. He waylaid me, and I woke up on a ship bound for Elona where I was pressed into the service of the evil Warmarshal Varesh Ossa. I spent many grueling years there before I managed to go AWOL and return to Cantha.
I managed to locate and capture our old friend Linro. I put him on a transport bound for the undead-beseiged city of Lion’s Arch in Kryta, and that’s the last I ever saw of him. Years later, I heard from a traveler that he had changed his name to Markis, and joined a religious Order. I’m glad he finally appears to have changed his ways and won’t go around deceiving people anymore.
Other than this, the minipet situation seems to have been corrected. I hope I never see that nasty message again.
EDIT: I was doing a Boss event, and my mini disappeared without a message. That’s okay with me as long as he comes back soon after it’s over. I this case, he didn’t. I waypointed to a quiet spot across the map and he was still gone. He was still in my Hero Panel and check-marked as SHOW, but he didn’t reappear until I deselected and then reselected him.
(edited by Hamfast.8719)
I reported this 11 pages ago: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/BUG-Glyph-of-Elementals-1/first#post4394442 Maybe they’ll merge the threads. Maybe they’ll fix the bug.
My resolution is 1920×1080.
It needs to display only the information for your current attunement.
Every time you dye a piece of armor and click the APPLY button, your minipet is removed. To get it back again, it must be manually re-added and the SHOW/HIDE checkbox reselected.
Blonde haired character thumbnails appear white haired in Selection Screen thumbnails ever since 9/9 (see picture below).
I don’t know about other thumbnails in-game, since I can’t see myself. It seems to be okay in chats with NPCs when they show my thumbnail in the corner of the dialogue box.
Everyone can make up statistics. It’s not hard. That’s why intelligent people just ignore people who throw numbers around like they know what they are talking about.
Oh, yeah? Well I know for a fact that six out of seven dwarfs aren’t Happy.
Open your OPTIONS. Click the CONTROL OPTIONS tab on the left side (the little mouse icon). Scroll down to the TARGETING section.
There are 3 key-bindable options there that I use all the time. They are:
What do these three have in common?
ENEMY
Enemies are defined as creatures with RED text overhead. YELLOW text denotes a NEUTRAL target.
When they get the current targeting bug fixed, it would be nice if they obeyed their own definitions and only targeted ENEMIES. I have no animosity towards a cart, especially when a monster is charging me.
