Post April 15: How to get me Spending Again

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hamfast.8719

Pre April 15th, I spent a lot of real money in the Gem Store. A lot. I mean, several of their employees can probably thank me for their plane trip to China. I liked the occasional toys (the Sonic Tunneling Tool, and the Boxing gloves, etc., may they rest in peace), but mostly it was Town Clothing. I bought lots of individual pieces, and full outfits from which I used individual pieces.

Post April 15th, I’ve been spending next to nothing. I have a huge pile of Gems from my Town Clothing refunds that sits untouched. Mix ‘n’ Match is gone, and Outfits are here. (Supposedly easier and faster to make, but the very first one they released clips with itself on my character. The skirt shows through the sash on her booty). I am not impressed with one-size-fits-all fashion. And I am especially unimpressed when their first offering had issues that have had no sign of being addressed.

If ANet insists on continuing ahead with the “outfit” system, then there is a simple way for them to recover some RP love and start freeing up my wallet again. Give us outfits made up of the old TOWN CLOTHES individual pieces and parts.

The artwork is already there. You play “Mix ‘n’ Match” for us, ANet! You can easily take all of those old already-existing individual pieces, and put them together into hundreds of different combinations for sale cheap. It could easily be a whole new section in the Gem Store. (Like Pokemon, or rabid minipet collectors, there will be people who want to “collect ’em all”!)

And PLEASE go back to giving every character a free “basic” Town Clothes outfit upon character creation. OUTFIT, not tonic! I still pray for the day when all of those clothing tonics you saddled us with become Outfits.

Outfits and the future of Armor.

The Town Clothes system was changed because of the occasional thread in the forums asking to let us wear them into combat. But almost NONE of the old Town Clothes pieces can now be worn in combat. Mostly just hats (because they don’t do much clipping). The vast majority of pieces became Outfits (a pale shadow of Town Clothing), or even worse: Tonics. Where are the people who wanted to wear Town Clothes into combat? Why aren’t they complaining? Are they seriously happy with ANet’s answer to their wishes?

I personally don’t care a whole lot for either of the 2 Outfits that they’ve released since they did away with Town Clothes, although I won the Ancestral Outfit in a contest. It clips with ITSELF. The skirt shows right through the sash on my derrière. I posted the issue in the Graphics Bugs forum and one or two other forums, but nothing was ever done about it.

I’m sorry, but that kind of quality disgusts me. They took away something I loved, and replaced it with something that doesn’t work.

Every Halloween and every Wintersday, LA is completely changed overnight. Magic.

Scuttlebutt – I dunno how true – is that after Dragon’s Reach Part 2, they’re taking a little break from the Living Story. The little pastry shop down the street

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

On April 15th they stopped making my Town Clothing pastries. They gave me store credit, but haven’t come out with any good yummies that I can use it on yet. So what good is store credit?

To make matters worse, my little pastry shop is now swarming to the gills with customers. At one time, there were lots of these little pastry shops of varying sizes. I chose to frequent one of the smaller, cozier outlets. But then they closed most of them and crammed all of us into fewer shops. Service is naturally slower, and sometimes I even get jostled out the door.

Ever since that awful date, I have tried to contact the shop owners to find out what their plans were. Were they going to help their loyal old customers? Or did they have a completely new audience in mind? The usually helpful and responsive owners never answered my letters, so I have no idea in what direction this shop plans to head.

I’m torn on mega server for this posts sake. I think it was a nice idea in order to ‘fix’ low-pop servers w/o just destroying entire server communities. However, at the same time, they broke some things and destroyed some server communities. O.o It’s easy to see why this is a hot topic.

Why did they have to “fix” low-pop servers? There was nothing at all wrong with them. I like a low population server. That’s why I chose the one I did at the beginning. Now no matter where I go, I’m on an ultra-high population server, and it really annoys me.

The solution might have been to allow occasional free server transfers (say two to four weekends a year maybe?). People could gravitate towards the level of population that they liked until they found a suitable home. And WvW would (hopefully) not be seriously messed up if the free transfers happened infrequently enough.

Everyone gets to play “their way”. The world doesn’t get torn apart.

Well Hamfast, that was the sales pitch.
It was a server merge. Since all were merged they won’t ever have to again.
PR damage control. We will never see the dreaded “GW2 announces Server Mergers” on an MMO website.
They won’t ever roll it back. Too concerned about social media and Image.

It gutted community for me. Seeing a name I know is a shock.

They NEED some PR damage control now, more than ever. The decision to go stone cold silent is the worst thing they could do. Good communications with your customers is the number one most important thing in business if you wish to stay in business. The forums are still open, which is a great tool for them and us, but both sides need to talk in order for there to be meaningful discussion and problem resolution. The Silent treatment is a huge step towards losing customers. PR attracts customers, lack of PR loses them.

Wow. Just… wow!

I stumbled across an old GW2 news article entitled Introducing the Megaserver System and just about choked to death reading the opening lines. It reads:

We’re down to the last major feature to announce in our upcoming April 15 Feature Pack, and it’s a pretty huge one: we’re making it easier to play with your friends on every PvE map, regardless of home world! By restructuring the relationship between players and worlds, we’re changing our server system to connect you with the people who will best benefit your social experience in PvE.

What exactly does that mean? We’ll get to the technical explanation in a moment, but it means that you’re more likely to be placed on a map that has more of your friends and guildmates, people who speak the same language as you, and more people that you regularly see. It means that maps will have more players adventuring in them to provide you with the best possible PvE experience.

From personal experience as well as the (so far) 46 pages of player input, I’d say this is pretty much the opposite of what the Megaserver has done.

Sure, the final sentence is mostly true… maps do have more players adventuring in them. But whether or not that gives us the best possible PVE experience is entirely subjective. For me, I prefer less population. That’s why I chose a lower population server in the first place.

As for the rest of what the Megaserver is supposed to do (place you on a map with more of your friends and Guildmates, and people who speak the same language as you), almost all the comments I see here complain that has been ruined by the Megaserver.

And ask the Role Playing community if the Megaserver allows you to connect “with the people who will best benefit your social experience in PvE”. Or if it makes it “easier to play with your friends on every PvE map”. Does it really make sense to anyone that mixing people together at random will allow us to see “more people that you regularly see” than when we were all on the same map every day?

Guild Wars 2 has a good PR department. The article makes the Megaserver sound like a great idea. Most people want most of the things they said it would bring. But obviously, it hasn’t delivered.

I figure I earned between 13,000 and 14,000 Festival Tokens in the effort to support the restoration of Lion’s Arch. Can they get a few more people working on that as well?

The lackadaisical reconstruction efforts fly in the face of the city pride that Ree Soesbee portrayed in Sea of Sorrows. The place was smashed several times in its history, and the fierce determination of its inhabitants always brought it back stronger than before.

Where are the waste removal teams? The hole-filling squads? The construction crews? The supportive citizenry pitching in? Did Peneloopee and Bloomanoo bum them out and convince everyone to let Lion’s Arch finally rot?

Or did the MegaServer just put all the repair NPCs in a different instance than the rest of us?

The destroyed Tower of Nightmares in Kessex Hills is an eyesore nearly as bad as the remains of Scarlet’s “Breachmaker” in Lion’s Arch. With one major difference: the Tower of Nightmares seems to be made up mostly of wood.

If nobody is planning on salvaging all that lumber for repair efforts, then would you mind terribly if my Elementalist burned it all down? (Similarly, my Engineer is prepared to dismantle all the “Energy Probe” remnants scattered across Tyria.)

Airship helmsman drops you off in LA...

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

We now HAVE the option to be dropped off in LA (hooray!), but selecting Black Citadel still goes to LA as well. This needs to be fixed.

If I may be picky: The Royal Terrace has an Asuran Gate for travel to other cities – so naturally it transports you to other Asuran Gates. The Airship (supposedly) flies you to the edge of the selected town and drops you off there. To remain consistent, the Airship should drop you off at one of the entrances to LA, not at the Asuran Gates. Either Canal Ward Waypoint (by Gendarran Fields) or Bloadcoast Ward Waypoint (by Bloodtide Coast). Not to the Coriolis Plaza Asuran Gate Hub.

EDIT: Wow! I went to Coriolis Plaza the first time, but every time since then I’ve gone to the Trader’s Forum (just south of the waypoint). Either way, it would be more consistent for the Airship to leave us by one of the previously mentioned portals at the north or south edge of Lion’s Arch.

Chairs! More emotes! More dances! (Not the little 2-second move repeated ad nauseum from the “Learn to Dance” thing). Campfires! Fishing! SWIMSUITS should be available as Tonics (the only clothing that should ever be a tonic! Yes, I am still extremely upset about the Town Clothes fiasco and will have that sore spot forever). Above all, even if they’re presented to us as “Outfits”, bring back a big selection of non-combat clothing!

Wardrobe Malfunction: Mask Non-Existent?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

See the picture below.

The mask I currently have equipped does NOT appear in my wardrobe. When I hover over the icon, it does NOT report what the skin is. (It is NOT an Emblazoned Helm. It has been transmuted from an Emblazoned Helm to look like it does now).

I searched the Trading Post, and only found one item that has this appearance. It is called “Bloodsaw Leather Work Mask”. (The skin reports LOCKED for me). The tooltip says the Bloodsaw Leather Work Mask is apparently also called a “Rogue Mask”.

When I search for anything on the TP called “Rogue”, I come up with a full armor set, but NO MASK! It has apparently vanished from existence. I think someone boo-booed, and needs to restore these. (It’s a Rare-level armor set. It should have accompanying headgear).

I bought the Bloodsaw Leather Work Mask, right-clicked the icon, and selected “Unlock Skin” so that I would have this in my Wardrobe before they all disappear. It successfully appears there now under the name “Rogue Mask”. You guys owe me 12 silver. Thpppt!

Unsure, that’s irrelevant, they need to increase the capacity regardless.

Please, no! Give me some way to opt for a lesser-crowded area! It’s why I picked my particular server to begin with, but now nobody can choose to be less crowded. I don’t want to live in Megatropolis. I would love to see the numbers cut AT LEAST in half. And the MegaServer removed completely from the main cities, where it serves no purpose.

Replace fall damage traits

I love taking reduced fall damage – it certainly makes exploring across the countryside quicker and more interesting. I use this on ALL of my toons (one of each Profession). Some of the skills that get activated upon landing are better than others, sure. But it is one of the first Traits I pick up when leveling. To each his own.

For goodness sake, stop with the idea of REMOVING stuff. Adding new stuff is great, but when you start taking stuff away, people get angry. (I’m looking straight at YOU, Town Clothes!) If you don’t like the trait, don’t use the trait. Is that so hard to figure out? Should they remove ALL of the traits that you don’t use?

And it’s annoying as heck to do the Daily Activity from there too. When you leave the Activity, you appear back on the Airship for 1/10th of a second before having to endure a second loading screen as you are kicked off to the ground below. And then you need to endure the loading screen a THIRD time if you want back aboard.

When I created my account, I specifically picked a server with a lower population because I just plain PREFER a less crowded world. I don’t do WvW, and less crowding = less lag on my less-than-stellar Internet connection.

Now I don’t have any choice. Even in towns, which have more reason to NOT be part of the MegaServer. I have had to turn off Player Names because it’s just too crowded to see the Bank NPCs behind all the text. And I rarely attend World Boss fights anymore due to excessive lag. Framerates get all choppy, and I freeze up sometimes to the point of getting disconnected.

How about adding a Micro Server for those of us who don’t care to live in New York, and would rather move out to a farm in Hooterville?

The Zephyrite #3 skill “Lightning Pull” has been messing up this year from time to time in the same way as well. I don’t remember it doing that last year. (Having a speed boost upon you does NOT seem to be the culprit).

Also the Jump Gun that Klagg gives you in LA to get to the Vista near the Eastern Ward Waypoint. And the Experimental Rifle from Agent Livilla in Malchor’s Leap. All occasionally overshoot now. What good is being able to target if you don’t hit your target?

Suggestion: Right-Click remove boon Option

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

I would like to be able to Right-Click the icon for a Boon that is upon my character and elect to REMOVE it.

Why would anybody want to remove a boon?

My reason is for Speed Boosts primarily. Speed Boosts kill my jumping ability. Most of the time I move without a boost. If I get sped up, it messes with my “feel” for jumping distances. If somebody comes along while I’m doing a Jumping Puzzle and I get caught in their Speed Boost Area of Effect, I generally have to stop and wait until it dies out before I feel safe to continue jumping. Sometimes, this can be a pretty long wait.

This is showing up for me big time in the Zephyr Sanctum, where the Dolyak Race “rewards” us with a Speed Boost Boon of something like 10 minutes. And that place is ALL Jumping.

So please consider letting us cancel Boons that we don’t want active.

Not far from the Charged Crystal collector, but south toward the edge of the railing. A Norn “Stranger”. If you talk to him, he brings up the usual Norn greetings in a familiar Norn voice. But then ONE of his lines is “I’m surprised all of Lion’s Arch isn’t here.” This line is done by a different voice actor who does a lot of the Asura.

“Zephyrite” must be a term in Olde Tyrian that translates into “I wish I had big ears”.

250 (game) years ago, our forefathers escorted the Eye of Janthir across the countryside of Tyria. Along the way, it remained in contact with them through a continual bolt of lightning to their backsides. (I suppose this encouraged them not to dawdle).

Today, their ancestors (us) partake in a festive Crystal Collection event that relives those days of magic and getting a bolt of lightning up the wazoo. The Ancestral Outfit is an acknowledgement of those noble deeds of the past.

Using the wrong weapons and skills.

Rangers should be bringing sword mainhand for their weapon, since it’s the only one that does good DPS. They should be bringing spotter and traited frost spirit. And they should be bringing cats and birds and drakes (I think? Not a ranger player myself, so not sure about this) as pets.

Instead we see bearbows, and we cry.

Wow. For someone who doesn’t play Rangers, you sure have a lot of specific ideas about how another person should play theirs. Just sayin’.

Is she a hero? I thought I was a hero, but then I met Trahearne. He’s the true hero of my personal story, apparently.

I remember Magnus losing an eye for the city. I didn’t do all the various events, but I don’t remember seeing Kiel around.

Ellen Kiel a future villain?

GW’s new darling Taimi complains about “that bookah” Ellen Kiel’s handling of the Zephyrite festival activities.

In Lion’s Arch, a couple of merchants complain that they are likely to lose their business to Evon Gnashblade because of Kiel’s actions during the Scarlet crisis.

I doubt seriously that many people really cared much about either candidate personally during the election. I think most people probably voted based on the campaign promises they wanted GW2 to institute in our game. From the NPC complaints about her, it sounds to me as if we’re being prepped for something unsavory to crop up with the Ellen Kiel character. A sinister plot to take over sole control, perhaps? The Captain’s Council must be fragile right now with LA in ruins.

Or is she simply an innocent poster child for incompetent administration?

Or does the “NPC Overheard Conversation Team” for GW2 just prefer to write dialogue for Evon Gnashblade, and let their personal feelings spill out into their writing?

Charr Footprints are Backwards?!?!?!

Yes, graphics errors in general seem to get zero attention in this game. They have a horrible track record in this department. My female human and norn have had visible lines around their waists since day one. There are many armor issues, especially shoulders that keep getting bigger and keep floating higher in midair. Weapons hang crooked, or too far away from the body, or dig into the ground. The brand-spanking new one-piece Ancestral Outfit clips with itself. All duly reported. All similarly ignored. It’s shameful. It’s no surprise that they want to only release one-piece Outfits anymore. And less-“clippy” items like hats. I don’t think they have any manpower in their art department anymore these days.

second b-day gift

Anet must feel like parents of spoiled little kids after reading this thread.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with suggesting what Birthday gifts we’d like to see. Our parents (hopefully) want us to be happy, but they aren’t mind readers.

We can only hope that they put some thought into their gift. (The level 20 scrolls were pretty useless after a year of playing. And multiple untradeable Jennahs? Both are just inventory fillers if they can’t be sold or given to someone that could actually use them.)

Ancestral Outfit and outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If Outfits are easier for them to whip out without clipping being an issue, then why does their very first Outfit post-Patch have clipping issues?

  • GW2 General World artwork: A+ (Excellent. Realistic settings that help create a mood and enhance immersion.)
  • GW2 Armor artwork: D (Almost a failure; Many unaddressed clipping issues, outsized floating shoulders, lack of variety and imagination, disappearing hair, etc.)

If they’re going to take away our Town Clothes, this is NOT a very good start for their replacement. They’ve got to have better quality control than clothing that clips with itself when the toon is just standing there doing nothing.

Dredgehaunt Cliffs are haunting me.

Harathi Hinterlands are horrible.

Now the Fields of Ruin are ruined.

I don’t want to stay in any of these zones anymore thanks to the booming.

PLEASE get rid of it!

A Couple Ancestral Outfit Issues

Honestly, people – this is a one-piece Outfit with no parts that can be concealed. And yet the thing still clips with itself. Please fix this ASAP, and don’t skip the “INSPECTED BY #4” step next time.

ALSO: When I emerged from the water in my Ancestral Outfit, I was still wearing my AQUABREATHER on dry land. I tried toggling the Outfit off, and I still had the Aquabreather on in my normal armor. I couldn’t find any way to fix this other than to zone. (This does NOT happen all the time. So far only the once, so I don’t know if it’s a generic OUTFIT bug or specifically an ANCESTRAL OUTFIT bug.)

Ancestral Outfit on Human Female. As mentioned above, there is a large hole in the hip (picture included below).

I’m just glad it turned out to be the armor repair guy selling his services, and not someone who found something floating in his soup.

Last Wintersday they sold a trio: Mini Fawn, Mini Arctic Fox Kit, and Mini Puppy. They’ve been re-releasing past items on the Trading Post to keep people interested until LS2. It’ll probably resurface eventually.

Thank goodness my ears were playing tricks on me! Near the start of the Flying Dolyak Race, I kept hearing an NPC shouting “That’s pubic hair!” I knew that couldn’t be right! I finally staked out the area for awhile until I heard it again and could read the speech bubble. It turns out that the armor repair NPC is saying “Fast shoe repair!”

I made good use of the prize… I thought everyone might like a peek at what it looks like on all 5 races. (I don’t have both sexes depicted in every race, though, if someone is able to fill in the blanks). I tried to use 4 colors different enough so that you can see what areas each dye channel covers.

Being an outfit, this is one piece. As mentioned above, this one has 4 dye channels. There is no headpiece, and the gloves are not concealable as they are with other Outfits.

Enjoy! (I am! Thank you, Lilith!)

The cutest NPC Asura must the the youngest… That’d be little TIPPI in the bottom level of Rata Sum (Picture #1)

The cutest PLAYER CHARACTER Asura has to be Hamfast Hornswoggle, who desperately needs a new outfit ever since his Little League uniform was wiped out in the Patch (Picture #2)
