The Liadri mini is still the only trophy that I care about in GW2 and my most epic memory of personal triumph in the game to date.

Shhh! Aw, dude… too late! You know your mini is gonna get nerfed now, right? They’ll probably give everyone in the game one for their second birthday present.

I dunno if this is what you mean by doing something hardcore, but when I saw what they did to all my Town Clothes I threw my keyboard in a fit if rage and accidentally broke my monitor. And every day since, the MegaServer gives me new reasons to fear for my replacement monitor as well.

Why is almost EVERY WAYPOINT Contested?

So is this also the reason that I seem to get rerouted to a different WP a lot whenever I try to enter LA? It’s a TOWN… there’s nothing to make a WP contested, yet I don’t always go where I want.

Why is almost EVERY WAYPOINT Contested?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

All I wanted to do was teleport to the Ascalon City Waypoint. They usually have one or two dead bodies lying around for the Daily Reviver. So why am I seeing the vast majority of waypoints in the Plains of Ashford CONTESTED?

I asked on Map chat, and someone said it was a “feature” of the Megaserver. (As if I needed still another reason to dislike it). He said that once I got into the zone, then the Waypoints would become uncontested.

The Megaserver makes it take much longer to load a new area as it is, and now it’s making me go through TWO interminable loading screens?

In what universe is this acceptable? This can’t be how the Megaserver is supposed to function… that’d be completely insane! How is this good? How is this a selling point for the Megaserver? What’s the point of having waypoints if we can’t use them?

Or is this a prelude to introducing mounts?

(I am getting physically SICK of every part of this Patch! Grrrrrr! Where are the answers? Bring at least ONE person back from China already! They’re killing this game for me!)

With that I’d like to suggest armor and weapon skins that you can only get through pvp.

Wow. As if this update hasn’t ground me down enough already. Actual financial loss. Tons of in-game expenses. Fewer options everywhere I turn. Much longer loading times. Crowds, crowds everywhere so I can’t challenge anything without the almighty zerg descending upon the area to wipe everything out like a tornado. Resurgence of gold sellers. Inability to locate my friends without a bit of extra fuss.

I absolutely live for my mix and match armor, and now you want to taunt me with stuff I can’t get? NEVER! I will not PvP. Tried it on numerous occasions. Don’t care for it. I have many dungeon armor pieces I can’t get because I don’t do dungeons either. And now I find out you can get them in PvP as well? You wound me, sir! NO I say! NO! I will surely throw my game out the window, followed rapidly by my teary-eyed carcass!

Flameseeker Prophecies footfall?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

Don’t you DARE add cheesy footprints (some sort of liquid is leaking down my pants leg!) or dirty clouds of smog to the ONE Legendary that has some class! How less Legendary would it be if it were suddenly just like all the others? More Legendaries need the Flameseeker Prophecies’ brilliant sheen (for the “good guys”) and we need some really wicked-looking ones for the less-than-nice guys. Enough of the “silly” weapons and Vegas light shows, already.

ANet desperately needs to use some IMAGINATION on future Legendaries so that they do NOT all have the same old effects. Special SOUNDS when first drawn could be cool effects that announce the presence of a Legendary weapon (rumbling thunder, cracks of lightning, beastly tie-fighter-like screeches, a heartbeat, a heavenly chorus, etc.)

Sugestion: Body-blocking

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

As far as Dodging goes, I have dodged into obstacles that have physically prevented me from moving clear out of the red circle, but I still avoided damage because I was Dodging when the spell went off. Of course it wouldn’t keep me from taking subsequent injury if the area is subject to damage over time.

Actually, Body Blocking would be pretty cool everywhere (PvE, Dungeons, etc) except for Towns and Jumping Puzzles. Mist Form would go right through a crowd. I can see that being very popular…

For Jumping Puzzles, if you’re in the area of the JP you could “Flag” yourself for jumping. That would turn off the collision. In the area of the Puzzle only! While flagged you are considered to be in “PvE Mode”; unable to hurt or be hurt by other Players, but you still have to be able to fight monsters. (Your text and every other Player’s text is green). I do not know the JPs in WvW… so this solution might not work as it currently stands. I don’t know if there are any Puzzles in a location that would allow someone to use it as “protection” for spies. If so, the Puzzle in question would probably have to become “Contested”, and the jumper whose World does not control the area would be teleported to the nearest safe Waypoint. Sorry, Charlie.

It would be helpful even if your need is simple. I’ve heard some people express an interest in out-of-combat weapon swapping (primarily for Elementalists, who can’t swap during combat). They don’t want to have to open their Inventory and shuffle weapons around between fights. This could do that easily by assigning a keybind and locking everything except the weapons from swapping.

Regarding Events and Credit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hamfast.8719

Ever since the patch, I’ve noticed weird results on occasion. A couple times I was the only person doing an event and only got a Bronze or Silver reward. I’m afraid I just shrugged it off with a little scowl, and didn’t report it or take note of circumstances. I know I have joined in late sometimes on Champs (1/2 to 1/4 health left) and gotten no reward whatsoever, even though I know I dealt significant damage. So yeah, I’ve noticed some strange stuff going on myself here and there.

I suppose they may have lowered rewards if we’re being downscaled, fighting bad guys who aren’t really much challenge.

You should be able to right-click his icon on your mini-map, and choose to either send him a quick generic message to the effect of “A noble soul is coming to your rescue!” or to initiate a Whisper.

On HIS mini map, he should then be able to see a DOT indicating your position. Amongst other things, this helps the downed player see whether or not it is a serious rescue attempt, or just somebody tolling to see how long he’ll lie there quietly awaiting a rescue that never comes.

PROPOSAL

Create a key-bindable function to instantly toggle between TWO FULL SETS of gear while out of combat.

Why?

  • Save time if you have different armor sets for different activities (PvE/WvW/PvE etc.) Since stats are tied to gear instead of the character, this would streamline things immensely.
  • Restore the lost functionality of Town Clothes somewhat. With one click, you could switch from full combat gear to whatever “in-town” look you have created.

Little Details

  • As mentioned, this would be out-of-combat only.
  • You can swap ANY gear from the Hero screen; Armor, Weapons, Accessories, Harvesting Tools, and Underwater Weapons).
  • Gear does not swap in and out of your standard Inventory. When inactive, a gear set is stored in its own little space, just like the Town Clothes used to be. Otherwise there could be issues if for some reason a piece was removed from Inventory, or if your Inventory would become over-filled by swapping.
  • Some people won’t want to swap out every single piece of equipment. That would mean having to buy two of everything. You would be able to Right-Click each gear icon in your Hero Menu and toggle “SWAP LOCK” on and off. When locked, a particular piece of gear will NOT be changed when using the Equipment Toggle.

Please examine the sample pictures below. This can be done without massive changes to the familiar interface. Imagine how helpful this would be if we ever get the ability to save and reload different TRAIT setups!

If you don’t have any GW1 Hall of Monuments rewards, a Portal Stone can STILL be very handy to have. You use the Stone to teleport to the Hall of Monuments. When you leave the Hall, you are returned to the spot where you left.

So if the phone rings, or the pizza delivery guy rings the doorbell, or if nature calls and you can’t hold it in any longer, the Hall of Monuments can be your “AFK Safe House”. A way to “pause the game” without logging out. Of course there is always the possibility that your return location will be under attack when you leave the Hall, but that’s better than being attacked while you’re AFK.

And my Sonic Tunneling Tool is always out and running. I can’t stow it on my back anymore. Thpppt!

It used to be open inventory, one click…now open inventory, double-click..

I never even opened my Inventory before. I used the hotkey so a single mouse button click and I was in my Town Clothes with Brawl Weapon at my side ready to go. To do the same thing now (having created a semi-passable “Town Clothes” look out of armor pieces), I need to open my Inventory, double-click all 6 armor pieces, double-click the Brawl Weapon, and close my Inventory again. And I’m still stuck in the silly “ready to fight” stance. Massive inconvenience, going from one mouse click to 16. (Yes, only 4 clicks total if I neglect changing armor). Messes with my digestion as well.

I used to walk into a town, click one button on my mouse, and POOF! – I was in my Town Clothes. (Thanks for nothing… but that’s another thread).

I always had my Brawl weapons on hand as part of my Town Clothes look (Witches Broom, Executioner’s Axe, Mad King’s Scepter, Frying Pan, Wooden Pirate’s Sword, etc).

Now I need to go through the hassle of physically opening my Inventory and double-clicking my Brawl Weapon to equip it. (Thanks for nothing… but that’s another thread).

My issue is that I can no longer “stow” my Brawl Weapons. I have a button set up on my mouse to stow/draw weapons, and I do it all the time outside of town. Staying in my “on the alert” pose in town is really dumb-looking. Please restore the functionality of being able to stow our Brawl Weapons.

Of course, the abbreviated Daily Achievements no longer features Costume Brawl, so it has pretty much died out entirely, which is a shame. It has effectively killed this wonderful in-town activity despite the current overcrowding, so maybe my suggestion is moot. (Thanks for nothing… but that’s another thread).

Why we hear nothing but Silence from ANet?

Hamfast.8719

Not that you’ll like this answer, but it’s prioritization. Exploits get fixed first, but after that, it’s a matter of prioritization.

Right now, priorities seem to be on developing new content and dealing with the China release. Other things are still important, they just aren’t as high of a priority.

I don’t buy that. Even if everyone else is in China, or in jail for tax evasion, or hungover from the Patch after-party, some of the MODs are still here. How hard is it for one of them to simply tell us what is going on instead of letting this fester? Even if their current player base is not their “priority” anymore, it is so easy to type a little something to us. Anything. There is no excuse for not doing so. None.

The total and complete lack of communication is super simple to to remedy. But ZERO response in the Guild Wars 2 Discussion forum for very close to a month now is being downright rude to their customers if nothing else.

The Forum says “Be Heard!” right there at the top when you log in. How do we know we are being heard if nobody replies?

Definitely. I’m getting 4-6 every couple of hours on average now. Last night I got tag teamed… two in less than 2 seconds. Most unfortunately, all we can do is /Block and /Report them. Your thread here is against forum policies, and will likely be shut down.

Maybe someone OUTSIDE of ANet’s control needs to publish a LIST to be sent to the Gold Spammers. Anyone who wants can add their account name. The list will consist of people who REPORT them every time. Then maybe, just maybe we’d be helping each other. They’d know who not to bug, so their accounts would last longer. And we wouldn’t be bugged as much.

But then again, spammers are of a completely weird and foreign mentality to me. They would probably just take it to mean “Hey! This guy is confirmed as being active in his account! Let’s spam him!”

It is WAY too crowded! It still needs a LOT of tweaking. It’s like every other event that pops up is squelched in seconds by the zerg which appears out of nowhere. What fun is that? And not every Boss fight is Tequatl. You don’t need 80 people minimum to take down the Shadow Beast. It is a disconnect/lagfest. Cut WAY back! Forget the problems with particle effects… I can no longer see the bad guys telegraphing their attacks due to the crowd.

Cities? WHY? What purpose does the MegaServer serve in cities? There are many much-addressed problems with this. Roleplaying. Guild Recruiting. WvW staging area. I can’t even see the Bankers through the press of flesh. I had to turn off player names on day one.

Cut it WAY back. Take it out of the cities.

In “Scarlet Destroys LA Part 1”, we got better bonuses for getting more people to safety. In “Rebuilding LA part 1”, we could rebuild the place FASTER if more people help out.

Maybe sorta like the Election? The more we do, the more “Rebuilding Tokens” we earn. The more that are turned in, the faster the town gets cleaned up.

No wonder it took so long for the Lion statue to get fixed after King Thorn had his way with it. Everyone in LA is an adventurer. Nobody is a carpenter.

  • Step one: Put out the fires. I’m tired of all the soot and ash and ugly skies.
  • Step two: Clear the rubble and fill in the holes.
  • Step three: Rebuild! There is a TON of ready-to-use building material scattered all over Lion’s Arch and Kessex Hills.

I’m told it’s FIREWORKS indicating success of some Guild activity or other. I have yet to actually see any activity OR any fireworks. Just a WAY loud bang that knocks me out of my seat every time. I had heard it only rarely before, and now it is almost constant. Another “benefit” of the MegaServer, I’m sure.

If this is actually what is going on, then it needs to be QUIETER, and/or limited to only the Guild Members involved hearing the noise. Either that, or make it MUCH more localized, so that it is heard only at the end-point of an event, and not map-wide.

Of course it was possible. But it wasn’t worth the investment of time and money.

They could have made ZERO changes to the Town Clothes system, which would have been NO time and money invested. They could have then ADDED the Outfit system as something new and extra. They could have ADDED the ability to change some Town Clothing pieces into armor. But make it OPTIONAL (buy a transmutation stone for Town Clothes or something). There was no reason that they HAD to kill the Town Clothes. They weren’t blocking anybody’s progress.

Ya wanna know what’s neat about the outfit system? It can be done quickly and cheaply.

That’s not my idea of “neat”. They’re turning a fine dining establishment into fast food.

For every person who loved the concept there were twenty who weren’t interested.

Source please? This sounds like the “top of your head” variety of statistic.

Now, with all that said, what is a sound business decision isn’t always the right decision at the end of the day. We’ll see if the twain meets this time.

It is indeed yet to be seen whether or not the removal of Town Clothes was a sound business decision. As you said, people “want to hit stuff and look “cool” doing it”. They wanted to wear Town Clothes into battle. So why can’t you wear Town Clothes into battle? The only things that turned into skins were HATS. And I’d be willing to bet that your figures would stand up to my guess that for every one person who wanted to wear Town Clothes into battle, twenty people didn’t want to wear complete sets, but meant individual pieces of Town Clothing.

Why we hear nothing but Silence from ANet?

The ONLY motions you couldn’t do were the very few exclusive to weapon skills, and swim.

Actually, you could swim with Town Clothes.

When you went into the water, they disappeared. But if you equipped a Brawling Weapon while underwater, POOF! You’re back in your town clothes again! You could swim around, and change pieces, and everything else you could do above the surface. Absolutely no problems with swimming animations and Town Clothes.

ANet is desperately trying to answer us. Unfortunately, they are also in the MegaServer now, and we can’t seem to come together in the same forum.

And even if they do get in, we’ll never recognize them now that everybody looks the same in our one-size-fits-all Town Clothes.

MENDING BOOTS not adding to Wardrobe

I am wearing my Mending Boots. They are Soulbound to me. But they are not appearing in my wardrobe as a skin. (Personal Story reward item, I believe).

Why is zerging so encouraged in this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

We never really had zerging in PvE until Scarlet brought in her Twisted Watchwork minions. Bang! Overnight everyone is “getting zergy wit’ it”. WvW comes to PvE (sigh). Blame Scarlet. And thanks to the Megaserver I can barely take on a yellow-text Moa now without someone jumping in to “help” me defeat the terrible foe.

Heroics are gone. The days of ganging up like bullies in a schoolyard are here. I wish I could replay old Personal Story episodes (not that many of them were really tough) so I could at least feel occasionally like my presence contributes something in a meaningful way.

Dyes on outfits reset

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hamfast.8719

Hmm, doesn’t happen to me. Some armors will have dye slots that others don’t have and when I change to a set with more slots the new slots are undyed.

CharrGirl is talking about Outfits, Bob… not armor pieces. Different thing.

They have yet to fix the issue with remembering the names you give your Ranger Pets. This seems to be a related memory issue. Besides, they have already shown how important non-armors are to their game. I would be surprised if they lifted one finger to address this.

But then they’ve got me pretty jaded right now.

Feature Patch Critique

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hamfast.8719

PeterThomas, I agree with you an almost everything you’ve said. The exception being your statement that the Pros and Cons seem to balance out. Not for me.

The Town Clothes issue has been a point of contention for me since before it was implemented, but they stuck to their guns and told us we’d be surprised how many pieces made the transition into skins. So I waited and I was surprised all right. Pretty much nothing except hats became skins. From my standpoint, “idle time” clothes are completely gone now. For me anyway, this was a substantial blow.

The Megaservers haven’t affected my ability to locate the people I want to play with too much, but it has made things WAY overcrowded. I had to turn off Player Names the very first day, and I still can’t see the Merchant/Bank NPCs in town. World Bosses are indeed a nightmare of lag and disconnects. I can’t find a quiet place to do “dodging” or “interrupt” Dailies without someone coming along and “saving” me from the terrible monster.

These two things, combined with a complete absence of DEV response in the Guild Wars 2 Discussion forum since a week before the Feature Patch, have made me seriously consider the possibility of exploring other games. I have devoted myself to them since the GW1 Betas, and I have paid them far more money than they would have gotten out of me if they were a pay-to-play game. (They have records of my transactions, I’m sure). And in one fell swoop they have not only trashed much of what made the game fun for me, but they aren’t even acknowledging coherent, non-combative threads such as your own. Much less their “official” threads.

If they want to keep this loyal customer coming back with more money, they MUST announce that they will be offering individual pieces of Town Clothes as armor skins. They should be able to release 1-2 per month without much trouble. They MUST remove the Towns from the Megaserver. They MUST do whatever tweaking is necessary to make World Boss events playable again.

And most importantly they MUST talk to us. This more than anything else is infuriating. I thought I was cooling off after my initial outrage, but their seeming indifference is keeping that fire smoldering. If they still aren’t talking next week, then I will assume they don’t care about us anymore, so why should I care about them anymore? I don’t want to leave. But if silence remains the case in the Guild Wars 2 Discussion forum next week, then they are leaving me no option but to explore other options.

I remember another MMO where people were organizing Costume Contests with prizes at the end for the most beautiful costumes in different categories. It was fun, made by the community, and thanks to a large possibility of customization.

Something we lost with this system, for all the reasons quoted in the 15 other pages of this thread.

And Anet is still ignoring, or refuse to reply because they have their feelings hurt. It’s time to move on Anet, being kitten for too long is never good, do something.

I won my Dragon Logo Shirt in such a contest. It was mostly a European item I gather, and I felt great wearing it here in the NA. It was my version of “Legendary Armor”. People asked me where I got it all the time. I never saw another person with one on my server.

Now it’s toast. A lousy tonic paired with Khaki shorts (bearable) and bright red boots that make me feel like “Ted” on How I Met Your Mother. It went from being an item I loved to show off, to something I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing.

I feel like someone stripped me of my Legen… (wait for it)… dary!

The SELF-STYLE HAIR KIT or the TOTAL TRANSFORMATION KIT offer hair styles and hair colors above and beyond what is available during character creation. If all you need to change is hair, then just get the hair kit.

See the picture below. When you open the Kit, the styles with a STAR in the upper left corner are NEW hairstyles, and the colors with a star are new colors.

It has been suggested that the DEVs on this particular forum have been on hiatus, or with the big Chinese rollout effort, or maybe even on Easter vacation, given the lack of input from them lately.

An enterprising cub reporter has tracked one of them to a SPRING BREAK RESORT! This unnamed DEV has been observed whooping it up at all hours of the day and night. Good times he’ll always remember! Good times he can’t remember! Times he’d rather forget!

Anyway, Spring Break is over, and we should be seeing the DEVs home again real soon. Welcome back!

P.S. – Feel free to create your own captions for these pictures!

The outfits dye just fine.

Yes, the Outfits dye just fine (if a bit awkwardly due to the limited channels). As long as you keep wearing the SAME OUTFIT, there will be no problem.

The problem comes when you SWAP outfits for another one. When you return to the original Outfit that you dyed, you will notice that it has gone back to the default colors.

Trust me… I am always dying in this game!
