These screenshots are fabulous. Keep them coming.
You too! Everyone! Let them know we’re a group they shouldn’t be ignoring!
You thought Noid was a Noid? Don’t mess around in Clawfford’s closet!

Our little Noid adds to his starter Town Clothes with a ball cap and Boxing Gloves. The boxing gloves have really changed since this picture, and Noid is ready to use what’s left of his gloves on anyone who messes with them further. He is really a Noid with what’s happening to mix and matchabilty.
It will be nearly Easter when the changes are set to take place. Will Bubbles Powderpuff still be able to enjoy the Holiday in the attire she purchased to look nice for the occasion?
Head: Bunny Ears
Shirt: Ornate Ruched Shirt

A servant golem acts up while Professor Knowitall is doing field work. Really… Indiana Jones never had to put up with this sort of thing!
Head: Reading Glasses
Shirt: Striped Silk Vest with Shirt
Pants: Riding Pants
Boots: Pirate Captain’s boots
Also not shown (because of the “/kneel” emote) is his Sonic Digging Tool. I seem to recall reading that the use of this will now strip away any tonics (or something like that?) This just keeps getting better and better…
Just make every piece a dyeable tonic with a “show on / off” toggle, just the give us the diversity back. Don’t start to ruin this game plz …
NO!
No tonics! You can only use one at a time. And they disappear when zoning (and have had many other problems in the past). I am not particularly looking forward to the “complimentary clothing” they are going to provide us with the tonics either. Everyone will look the same. There’s no diversity with tonics.
Hamfast Hornswoggle and friend play “Pirates”. This picture will never be duplicated, since the Pirate Costume will be a full one-piece “outfit”. And oh, yeah… this was also taken a long time ago in Lion’s Arch at the Commodore’s Manor. I guess that ship has also sailed.
Valeri The Valkyrie is a true Norn, and revels in a fresh snowfall.
The only modification I felt the starter Town Clothes needed was the gloves from the Cook’s Costume. A perfect match that looked as if they belonged in the first place.
I initially bought the Cook’s Costume just for the armbands, but eventually found it had a nice skirt for my Sylvari, and a nice hat and boots for my Charr. So the Cook’s Costume was indeed a treasure trove of individual pieces for me that are now going the way of the dinosaurs when it becomes a one-piece “outfit”. (Sigh).
Side Note: Have you ever seen anyone in full cooks garb? Did anybody run around in anything except some of the individual pieces?
(edited by Hamfast.8719)
Here’s that crusty old curmudgeon Professor Knowitall. Did I tell you that he won the Snaff Prize? Well he did! It’s a shame ANet will be stripping him of the lab coat he was awarded and all the status it conveys amongst his Krewe.
Head: Reading Glasses
Lab Coat: Cook’s Coat
Everything else is starter Town Clothes.
Here’s Hamfast’s mischievous little sister Miss Alyssa letting her witches’ riding broom get away from her. This is a very light mix ‘n’ match… the shoes are the Pirate Captain’s Boots, since I didn’t care for the looks of the original. In the new system, I believe I will be forced to display the gloves as well, which make my hands look skeletal. She’s a WITCH, not a SKELETON!
Can I still mix and match my town clothes?
Clothing pieces that are converted to armor skins can be mixed and matched with the same restrictions as other armors. Outfits cannot be mixed as each of them now is stored on an account-wide basis as a single unlock. Items related to endless tonics cannot be mixed or dyed.
Thank you, Exosferatu. We are all well aware of that. I am fine with the pieces that can be converted into skins. (Although I’ll really miss being able to set up a hotkey to instantly swap into my town clothes).
But much of what you see in these pictures will NOT be able to be duplicated under the new system, because many pieces come from Town Clothing “sets” that are now being converted into single-piece “outfits”. We will no longer be able to use individual pieces from those outfits, or do anything more with outfits other than to dye them and hide the helmet.
Then there are the items that will me made into tonics, an idea that utterly disgusts me. Tonics have a bad rep in this game to begin with, and I sure as heck don’t look forward to having to reapply them whenever I zone. Not to mention the fact that you can not use more than one at a time. I see NO reasoning behind making these items tonics instead of skins.
Now back to the pictures!
Ranger Breanna Banana and her two pets roam the Grove soaking up it’s aura of serenity.
Shirt: Cherry Blossom Shirt
Skirt: Cook’s Leggings
Shoes: Starter Boots
Alas, this is another combo that will not be able to be duplicated, since the Cook’s Costume has already been confirmed as becoming a whole “outfit”. The Sylvari have the most distinctive Cultural clothing, but so few choices along those lines.
Young Hamfast Hornswoggle is rushing to join his friends at the baseball diamond after school for a real Daily Activity. The only non-standard item here is the GW2 Logo ball cap, so I might be able to keep this combo. Let’s just pray the cap doesn’t become one of those God-forsaken tonics!
Loyal Vigil soldier Clawfford takes a break for some chow while he’s off-duty.
Head: First Halloween Devil Horns
Shirt: None! (Will this be possible in the new system, or will some other piece I’m wearing force me into a full “outfit”?)
Arms: None!
Legs: Riding Pants (these make GREAT military fatigues on a Charr!)
Boots: Starter shoes… I normally wear Executioner Boots, but forgot to change into them before taking the screen cap. Doh!
Later, as the sun sets and the air takes on a bit of a chill, our hero slips into his regulation military …leather hoodie?
What will happen if I’m attacked under the new system while holding a Costume Brawl weapon? Will I be unable to equip a REAL weapon since I’m now in combat? Has this been taken into account?
Ever the smart blonde, Bubbles Powderpuff is looking into new employment opportunities just in case. Here she tries out for the role of the new T-Mobile girl.
Head: Aviator Sunglasses
Outfit: Pirate Costume
Boots: Starter Town Clothes
There has been mention that “Hide Headgear” will be an option for the new “Outfits”, but no word that I’ve seen about “Hide Gloves”. Under the new system this look will then include gloves, and the big clod-hopper pirate boots (which will do nothing to help Bubbles get the part!). I’m not sure if the Aviators will be usable in conjunction.

We are apparently about to lose our ability to mix and match town clothes. Let’s show ANet how much we will miss this by showing what creative ideas we’ve come up with and enjoyed for our “down-time” clothing.
It is possible that some of these WILL be able to be replicated under the new system. Most will probably be gone forever. Even if our pleas against this change fall upon deaf ears, then this thread may serve as a fond scrapbook memory of the good old days gone by.
Allow me to begin with poor Bubbles Powderpuff. She will likely be forced to quit her waitressing job at Two-Ters restaurant if she can no longer adhere to the dress code.
Shirt: Dragon Emblem T-Shirt (Becoming a tonic? Noooooo!)
Pants: Khaki Cargo Shorts
Boots: Starter Town Clothing
Are you saying that the Wardrobe is an Account-wide thing? That what one character unlocks will be unlocked for all my other characters?
It’s been 24 hours since I heard about the proposed changes to the Town Clothes system and posted my bitter disappointment. I had hoped that I would have cooled off with time, but I’m still simmering.
I keep harkening back to Guild Wars 1, when I spent a ton of time, effort, and money perfecting my Dervish. Great character! Lots of different strengths! And then one day they completely rewrote the Profession.
All of my time, effort, and money were completely thrown out the window. I (and many others) were livid. I poured more time and effort and money into my Dervish in an attempt to adapt to the new version, but could never regain the flexibility or strength of the original. I eventually stopped playing that character altogether.
In real life, I have had my house burglarized. The theft of all the time, effort, and money I put into my Dervish gave me the same feeling of having been violated that I had when I returned from work to a ransacked home. I still count the Dervish overhaul as the most unfair, painful moment in all my years of gaming.
This change in the town clothing system – even though it hasn’t been instituted yet – already has me feeling much the same way. It’s anger, plain and simple. I hate feeling this way, but once again all of my time, effort, and money is being stolen from me.
I don’t want a refund. When they burglarized my house, I didn’t want the replacement junk that the insurance paid for. I wanted the original things that I’d spent years getting just right.
Salvage this. There is still time. We can still have the town clothes we currently have if you let us turn all of our individual pieces of Town Clothing into armor skins. That gives us our dyability and flexibility to mix and match. It’s not a perfect solution, because there’s bound to be clipping complaints when people mix their town clothes and armors. And I will especially miss the ability to switch over to my town clothes instantaneously.
But those of us who value town clothes bought them because they AREN’T armors. They are down-time clothes. We will be matching them with other pieces that make them look like down-time clothes.
Despite the apologies, I’m not feeling much sincerity. If they truly understood the feelings here, there would at least be a “we understand the pain you feel and are looking for a compromise”. Instead, I feel like we’re being squashed underfoot while they say “Oops! I didn’t see you there!”
Believe me, it is a special kind of hurt when something you put a lot into is taken away.
(edited by Hamfast.8719)
Couldn’t you just make ALL current Town Clothes into armor skins?
FORGET the “costume” junk that has no mix ‘n’ match flexibility.
FORGET the “tonics” that will need to be reapplied every time we zone.
If it takes a little while to “separate” things like the Pirate Costume into individual parts, that’s okay! We’ll wait!
Is there any reason you can’t meet us halfway? Go ahead and combine the Town Clothes with the Armors if you feel you must for some reason. But make it SIMPLER than “costumes” and “Tonics”. Make EVERYTHING an individual armor skin.
As always we ask you to try out the new system of customization and see what’s available to you.
So mix ‘n’ match is out. …For now. I will give it a try; I’m not unreasonable. I’m going to be losing a LOT of stuff I paid you for though, and it doesn’t exactly make me a happy customer.
I think many people will be surprised by how many pieces have become armor compatible.
I understand that the Pirate Costume, for example, is mostly one piece. Is there no chance at all of separating such Costumes into individual head/shoulders/chest/arms/legging/boot pieces and letting us use them as skins like the other town clothing? I just don’t understand the reasoning here.
And PLEASE, for the love of all that is Good and Holy! Don’t use a TONIC system for my Dragon Emblem T-Shirt! Not unless you can promise me that zoning won’t remove it. I truly don’t like the way tonics work lately.
If given a choice, better to delay giving you something you never had than to strip something from us that we already have and paid real money for.
Dumb Idea:
Keep Town Clothes as-is. Add an item to the Gem Store (money, guys!) that will turn one piece of town clothing into an armor skin. Maybe even add a reversal item, to restore it to Town Clothing status if desired.
Everybody wins, right? ANet makes money in the Gem Store. People who want to use Town Clothes as armor can do so. People who want the status quo with their Town Clothes don’t have to make a sacrifice.
Thoughts? Do I win a cookie?
Curtius Johnson posed it as an alternatum, “did come with some trades offs”.
Ultimatum, schmultimatum.
17 pages worth of concerned players in two days’ time with multiple devs contributing to the discussion should be enough to get them to rethink this proposed change a little since nothing has been done to the system yet. It’s not a done deal, and that is what the forums are for. I think our voices are being heard, and I believe they will try to do something to keep from alienating such a sizable portion of their player base.
They can see that a lot of people share the same concerns, so no matter what one dev said earlier, I believe they will hotfix a working solution for us. (Remember how quickly and well they responded to the Consortium Harvesting Sickle fiasco?)
There have been dozens of threads, pages and pages long, about the desire for a wardrobe and the ability to use Town Clothes in combat. You’re comparing all that to one or two threads about the inability to Mix-and-Match and claiming to be in the majority? That’s not how it works.
There reason that there are very few threads (up until now) about the inability to mix ‘n’ match town clothes, is because you CAN mix ‘n’ match town clothes (for the moment). Duh!
And check out the size of the “Show your armor only if it’s mix & match” thread that constantly returns to the front page.
People love to mix and match.
I’d go so far as to pay $100 for my one set of town clothes on my thief to be usable in combat because I love it that much more than any medium armor set.
Think I’m lying? Try me.
When you explained that you wear MEDIUM armor, I understood your point of view completely! But now we’re getting back to the old “thousands-of-trenchcoats-and-nothing-else-to-wear” issue…
Town clothes are part of each of my characters’ identities. I purchased many sets (and I assume I get no kind of “credit” for having duplicate sets?). I also bought a lot of individual pieces. Many times I paid for a whole set just to get a single piece I liked from it. I LOVE to mix and match parts. I even have the fairly rare GW2 Logo T-Shirt.
I have a button on my mouse dedicated to fast-switching between my town clothes and armor. I want to be able to have both a combat look and a town look that I can swap between instantly.
It sounds as if all of that is about to be ruined.
No more mixing and matching? I checked… ALL EIGHT of my characters’ in-town looks are composed of items from multiple sources. Some of my combo looks are very fun and creative. I don’t want to be wearing the same stuff everyone else is wearing! “Sets” are the bane of RPers.
Tonics? Are you kidding me? You guys are going tonic-happy lately. Now whenever I switch zones I have to open up my Inventory and re-drink a bunch of tonics? (Not to mention that they’ll be taking up valuable slots in my Inventory now.) This is extremely inconvenient!
I understand that some people wanted to be able to wear their Town Clothes in combat, but please understand that you’re DESTROYING a major Role-Playing resource in the way this is being implemented.
I BEG OF YOU, ANET… think of something else! I can’t see that I’ll wear ANY town clothes anymore if I am forced to wear full SETS and/or mess with inconvenient tonics. Please hold off instituting this change until you can come up with a better idea.
Please?
Thanks… I’ll do that right now!

I acquired the EFFIGY FRAGMENT:
http://dulfy.net/2013/01/16/gw2-useful-and-fun-consumables-guide/
It seems MARGINALLY better than the flames of Kryta, but I could be deluding myself. (See samples below. Neither one reveals the next ledge. If I ease up to where I am about to fall off, I occasionally swing the light around enough to glimpse it.)
Gamma here is normal (1.00). Gamma adjustment doesn’t pierce the pitch black on my computer. It lightens places as long as there is already some light, but does nothing when the Cap’n plays his evil tricks.
Why isn’t the flames of kryta enough? You can see the edge of the next platform when you’re standing on the edge of the previous one. How much more help you need?
Most of the time I CAN’T see the edge of the next one with the Flames of Kryta. Like I said, it is pretty dim as light sources go. And I tried turning up my gamma. That helps for the puzzle in general, but not in the pitch dark.
You could have a better video card. You almost certainly have better (younger) eyes. Mine worked nicely back when the epitome of video gaming was PONG. (Yes, I’m that old!)
I was around. Didn’t really care for the giant book on my back, so never bothered to improve it beyond the initial non-burning look. Long gone now. Does it actually give off light? I didn’t know any armor pieces did that, although plenty are “burning”.
Alas, Taku is correct. According to the wiki, and the devs, the races couldn’t have interracial relations that produce offspring.
Are you certain? I saw this guy in town the other day, and was sure he must be of Charr/Asura parentage…
I used to nearly always die jumping down. Then at some point they changed it so that I couldn’t die even if I tried. It is back to it’s old behavior again. (But I DID make it down. Used my Arcane Shield – although I doubt that does anything – and I kept jumping the whole way, so I skipped right off of the cliff edge whenever I touched it. I also have the trait to take less damage from falls).
In addition, there is a graphical bug outside, before you pass through the entrance hidden by vines. There is a large plot of grass floating in midair, high enough to conceal a human sized character underneath. Hard to see in the picture, but go there and you can’t miss it.

Conjure Fiery Greatsword according to this list would probably be your best best, I logged in just to sugest emberglow but apparently that wont work.
Drat! I thought that would be a winner. But to tell the truth I’m not even sure it illuminates my hands as I hold it. It probably needs to be off that list. The Fiery Greatsword is bright, I’ll give you that. But it doesn’t seem to light up anything else around it.
I’m all for more hairstyles. But if you like long hair, I hope you don’t plan on wearing a helm as well. There’s not a single helmet that looks good on a female unless you like your women bald.
She’s a necro, not a thief.
Is she? Never really seen her in “action”. Was going by her daggers (yes, I know Necro uses daggers too), and her armor looks like a Medium set (all trench-coaty).
But Necro is even further evidence she could easily be the one to turn evil (if one of them did).
1000 Sylvari a year is probably way too LOW.
A real tree in the real world develops many more seeds than that each year to make up for the fact that most are destroyed before they have a chance to fall from the parent, find a safe spot of their own, and begin to grow. An intelligent tree with hoards of intelligent offspring to play caretaker has far more potential for successful reproduction.
PLUS, there are hints that the Pale Tree may not be one-of-a-kind.
The Sylvari will not disappear anytime soon, although the Asura are working desperately on the Tyrian version of Agent Orange.
Wow. Guess I’ll have to hurry and guest to another server before the LS goes away forever. I’d really love to be able to participate in that!
(Whatever happened to upscaling/downscaling fights for the number of players involved? I am absolutely hating the way they’ve handled things like Tequatl and the Knights. I shouldn’t have to guest to another server all the time to enjoy a good fight and have a chance at winning.)
MARJORY, obviously!
She already has the black clothes fetish. She’s a thief by profession. She very conveniently avoided direct participation in Scarlet’s death. Breaking Kasmeer’s heart and laughing would stir real anger at her with the players who care about plot. (Dare I suspect murdering Kaz?) Her headquarters is at “The Dead End”… foreshadowing? Not to mention, her voice is just… spooky!
And she has already forced many innocent players to fill a valuable spot in their Inventory with “Marjory’s Journal”, that could otherwise be put to better use. And the journal no longer works!
As Marjory herself would say, case closed.
EDIT – I just looked at the picture a little closer… I had always assumed she was holding a quill pen. But what if that’s a plucked feather? She looks eerily pleased with herself…

Halo, schmalo.
Why are the HORNS floating in midair?
I wasn’t aware I wasn’t supporting your ‘point’. Just asking if you can still choose rotating mini-map. Geez!
Sorry… re-reading my post does sound like I’m pointing a finger at you. Unintended. I’m looking for more support from everyone. Most people use the static map, I guess, and I’ve been trying a long time to get a little attention for this. If I could get the people who aren’t affected by this to say “yeah, that sucks for people who prefer the rotating map! They should do something about that!”, then maybe they would finally do something about it.
The final chapter of Scarlet is nearly over. Only one day remains, and my server has never managed to defeat all 3 Assault Knights whenever I’ve been able to participate. I have, of course, gone through to the final “Death of Scarlet” scenario through the “back door”. But it leaves me with questions:
1) I have never heard anything about a big battle with Scarlet herself… do we actually get to fight her if we defeat the Assault Knights? I hate to miss out on content just because I’m on a server that doesn’t coordinate random zergs well. (Wasn’t there a dragon down in Sparkfly Fen at one time?)
2) Why is Kasmeer hiccuping? Too much miasma? Or did she swallow a feather?
3) It still isn’t quite clear: why did Scarlet do everything she did? Apparently she needed to tap powerful magic ley-lines to awaken another Elder Dragon. But why she wants to do this is still not explained. …Is it?
Did I miss some stuff? Any important fights? Any new plot twists?
Just a few posts away… I saw this a couple hours ago:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Jumping-Puzzle-Porting
Watch YouTube videos for what DIRECTION to jump off! Apparently there’s a very small hole you have to hit, that you can’t even see from above.
They were put in dailies because of the fact that there’s no reason to play them other than the dailies.
I’m not asking to remove them from the Dailies.
I’m asking to let us have a choice which mini-game to play!
If they made it for all activities, people would float to the easiest one; say if no one else liked keg brawl then you’ll never see anyone play it anymore.
The easiest one for me IS the Crab Toss, because I feel comfortable standing off to the side until the final bell (since it is “every man for himself”).
But given the choice, I would still much rather ENJOY doing my Daily Mini-Game. Each of the other 3 are fun for me most the time. So I’m not convinced that your argument holds water. Just because something is “easier” or “quicker” doesn’t mean it will necessarily be more popular.
Choice between TWO would still be an acceptable compromise in this regard.
Or if all else fails and they insist on dictating the “game of the day”, then PLEASE give each game equal time!
They were put in dailies because of the fact that there’s no reason to play them other than the dailies.
I’m not asking to remove them from the Dailies.
I’m asking to let us have a choice which mini-game to play!
Can’t you toggle the mini-map anymore between rotating and static? I haven’t tried that since the change, but you used to be able to….
Yes, you can. You misunderstand. You get a little teeny-tiny letter N on your mini-map when you choose to use the rotating version. This letter N is constantly covered up by other map-edge symbols leaving the player completely lost about direction.
We need ALL FOUR directional indicators: N S E & W. They need to be always on top of the other map-edge icons. And it wouldn’t hurt to make them a little BIGGER. (Right now, the N is about half the size of any other map-edge icon.)
Check out the example below. (The letter N is actually hidden underneath one of the “gear” icons).
Even if you don’t use the rotating version, can’t you see my point? Can’t you support such a simple fix?
Simplest thing of all to add: We need ALL FOUR DIRECTIONS on the rotating version of the mini-map. Not just North. The direction indicators must be BIGGER and ALWAYS ON TOP. (I.E. more visible!)
Super-easy! Why can’t they add that?
They took away the compass in Beta and replaced it with the mini-map, because people complained of having to constantly open their full-screen map to know where they were. Well you know what? Those of us who prefer a rotating mini-map (compass style) STILL have to constantly open our full-screen maps!
PLEASE! For the love of all that is good and Holy…
Fix the Daily Activity Participation rotation!
I despise Crab Toss. I take the opportunity to stand off to the side and organize my Inventory. Wretched game! And yet it comes up in the Dailies every other bloody day!
I love Keg Brawl. (Closest thing we have to football). And yet it comes up in the rotation only one time a week!
Best solution: Bring them ALL back EVERY DAY! Let us play the games we WANT to play!
Why were the mini-games ever put into a rotation in the first place? Lack of players? If there is a valid reason such as that, then at the very least give us a choice between two games! Otherwise, if somebody just thought a rotation would be a “neat idea”, then tell that person he was wrong, and FIX IT! Don’t you want us to have fun?
EDIT: While you’re at it, please rename it to “Daily Mini-Game Participation”. Pretty much everything we do is an “activity”.
The advantage of the Warrior and the Guardian is their durability. Heavier armor. The Warrior will have more health, and the Guardian will have more healing/protection. Both are advantageous if you are having troubles with dying too often. Add some regeneration when it becomes available to you, and beef up your Healing Power to further “tankify” yourself.
Both are primarily melee, which also forces you to actively pursue your target. This will force you to learn how to DODGE. But when the particle effects start getting out of control, you can have a difficult time seeing both your target AND your own toon. In this case, both Professions offer RANGED options. Not particularly powerful, but easier for you to operate.
I would suggest RIFLE as being easiest for a Warrior, since it doesn’t have all the AoE placement required of the bow. And STAFF or SCEPTER are easy to use for the Guardian. (The staff #1 skill is a cone of damage in front of you that doesn’t even require selecting a target… GREAT for Daily Ambient killing! Just be ready to fight everything in the area, because that cone of damage is wide).
So for easy-of-play (meaning staying ALIVE and little skill required on your end), I would suggest a Warrior or Guardian using ranged weaponry. You won’t take the world by storm, but you’ll be able to stay on your feet and learn the aspects of the game at a more leisurely pace.
EDIT – Race can also make a difference. Charr and Norn have difficulty with some jumping puzzles due to their size. So if JP’s are part of your game, stick with Human and smaller. And if you do any PvP (including WvW), a giant character is also a more obvious target.
