There is a little change I’d like to see to the hero window and that is to add three tabs for equipment, wardrobe and dyes instead of what we currently have.

It will be much faster if we had tabs when mixing and matching different armor pieces and dyes.

Ya beat me to it, Weir! (I even had an edited picture half finished myself).

Yes you can hide the gloves and head of a costume, just like you used to. Uncheck the costume slot, turn off gloves and helm, recheck the costume slot and you’ll have no gloves and no helm.

I didn’t know you could hide the GLOVES too. I’ve only seen mention that the HAT is removable. Good to know! Thanks!

What PoorTramp wants, is to be able to hide the OUTFIT hat and gloves, but still see the ARMOR SKIN underneath.

The reason town clothes were discontinued in the first place is because they aren’t compatible, seam-wise, with everything else. The meshes don’t mesh for lack of a simpler explanation. The time involved in remaking those clothes to make them work on five different races would be prohibitive.

Town Clothes “seams” weren’t compatible with current ARMOR SKINS. We know from the Flame-Kissed skin debacle that a full six-piece set of armor takes about a month to make. SIX SKIN PIECES for ONE weight class per month. So couldn’t they then make two individual pieces per month for each of the three weight classes? (Roughly).

This time frame is fine with me. Heck, ONE per month is awesome if we can dispense with this “Tonics” foolishness. I will be happy to wait.

The upside is now, when new stuff is released, it will be wearable whenever you want. Yes, it sucks…but in the future, it’ll open more possibilities. Sometimes you have to take the long view.

They will be releasing OUTFITS more than SKINS, since one size fits all. But they will have to be some mighty nice looking ones to entice me into buying something that won’t even retain your dye settings.

As far as SKINS, they don’t like to do TORSO and LEGGINGS much, due to those particular pieces clipping with other armor skins more than the ones clear out on your toon’s extremities. That’s why you see them releasing mostly “easy” skins as individual pieces, like Hats, Shoulders, Gloves, and Boots. But they also recognize that people often don’t want to see Hats or Gloves, hence the ability to toggle them off. Most of our individual Town Clothing pieces were those difficult Shirts and Pants, so they took a shortcut and instituted the tonics to save themselves time and effort. They need to take the time and do it right. We will wait.

Megaservers and RP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

I would like to see the Megaserver everyplace except in the towns. The towns should be every server for itself. I think it’s overall a good idea with some tweaking, but there’s no need for “balancing” the population in town. It isn’t as if there are events in town that can’t be done unless the population is adjusted.

I had to turn off my Player Names because they filled the screen. I literally couldn’t see the merchants and bankers and other NPCs. Lack of the Megaserver in towns would also provide a Mecca for Role Players where there was some constancy. It’s also nice to get away from people and enjoy some peace and quiet once in awhile. …Or are Guild Halls right around the corner?

The School Uniform [&AgHFpwAA], will that be added soon? (I prefer it’s individual pieces though, that outfit is one of the highest quality items in the game because of the detail in each piece and it’s potential to mix and match)

Do you have screen caps you can post? Preview doesn’t work on that anymore. (Which probably doesn’t bode well for our ever getting it). But I would love to see it anyway if you took some pictures when you had the chance.

Also, you missed one. If they insist on Outfits for the future, they need to retain their dye colors. Right now if you switch Outfits, it loses the dye scheme you applied and goes back to the default colors. If Rangers don’t rename their pets anymore from the default “Juvenile” because of the hassle, people sure as heck aren’t going to re-dye their Outfits every time either. That non-functionality alone will keep them from selling many Outfits.

To clarify, I was looking through all the “official” threads that CC started that are always on the first two or three pages here in the Guild Wars 2 Discussion forum.

I follow the forums (certain areas) quite a bit. For the past two weeks the areas I follow have been dead silent despite thousands of player posts. This is not normal. I typically see several Dev posts a day. It could very well be that this particular forum has it’s Devs allocated elsewhere right now, while other forums are still at capacity. I dunno. But it has definitely been unnaturally silent here.

Even though the Devs aren’t currently answering, I trust that the Mods are keeping them informed of the sheer amount of concern in a lot of areas. Even if they don’t say anything one way or the other about any issues, it would be nice if somebody would pop into a few of the official threads here and at least say “Hi… I’m here. I’m listening”. Although I don’t expect anything over the weekend.

@Chemiclord: I’m gonna keep trying on the Town Clothes issue if you don’t mind. As I posted/predicted before the Patch, I have tons more support for my position, since people who don’t usually attend the forums feel the need to be heard now. And I ain’t heard no fat lady singin’.

EDIT: @DusK … Wow! I never knew “My Little Pony” was headbangin’ material! LOL! Some of the best Computer Game music straight out of the box:

I haven’t seen a Dev response on any post for 2 weeks. I’m betting they’re all away from home handling the China rollout. All we have is poor, overworked CC trying to keep things grouped into “official” threads so that they can be sorted through when the Devs get home.

I hope they only get 2 weeks vacation, and are back Monday. They have a lot of work ahead of them.

Am I wrong? Are they just ignoring us?

Side Note: This latest patch should be a lesson to the ANet team. Anyone who has had even a tiny bit of programming experience knows that instituting a lot of changes all at once is a recipe for disaster. They need to keep up with their 50MB here, 50MB there schedule. Keep It Simple. No more “Mega-Patches”. Regular tiny band-aids instead of occasional major surgeries. One thing at a time.

Rich Node 10 to 8?

I have always gotten 10 on rich nodes. Now I’ll have to go see if it’s changed on Borlis Pass. I know that getting EXTRAS with my everlasting tools has dropped considerably in the last several months. (On regular nodes. Used to get extras fairly often, and now it’s a rare occurence. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten extra goodies from a Rich node.)

Maybe they just found a new segment of the population that they haven’t ticked off yet?

Suggestions

If it’s possible it would be great if we could zoom in on our character in the Wardrobe panel, so that we can see the details of masks and other items.

Also, it would be great if we could see our weapons drawn, like in the preview window, so we can see any particle effects.

You are daydreaming, my friend.

He is ASKING. You don’t know what’s possible and what isn’t. Those features are both available elsewhere (Zooming – Character Creation & Makeovers, Weapons Drawn – any Item Preview). So why not in the Hero pane as well? So negative!

Now they have hats. That is about the only thing that got turned into armor skins. I’m sure they are as happy with the results as the rest of us.

I liked my town clothes.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I didn’t really use town clothes ever but I had a Celebration Hat from the beginning.

I didn’t get any kind of tonic or anything and Black Lion traders have nothing for me. I don’t know where my hat is and it isn’t in my transaction history anymore.

I find the whole change really ridiculous… but I do kinda want my hat back.

Talk to a Black Lion ARMORSMITH. He will change your Town Clothes into the new system. (Your hat should reappear). You are LUCKY with your hat… they became SKINS. You can apply it to ARMOR now and wear it all the time if you like. Your other town clothes will be an unchangeable, undyable tonic now, that lasts a whole 15 minutes.

Just looked into the Outfits again. Sure, they can be dyed. But if you change outfits, it forgets what dyes you used, and reverts to the default! I will never buy an Outfit, and I wish I could remove the ones in my Wardrobe now.

I would grudgingly live with this disaster as it is now for as long as it takes, if they will only tell us that it IS going to be repaired! But I am sick of the silent treatment.

I don’t think we’re being heard. I think all of the Devs are in China for the rollout, and the Mods are minding the house while they’re gone. With strict instructions not to say anything.

Somebody needs to call the Devs and tell them to send somebody back. Their house is on fire.

Will you be making armor skins that look like CLOTHING? Ordinary, sitting around town, non-combat type clothing? This is the only way I can see to remedy the current Town Clothes fiasco.

Some people wanted to wear their Town Clothing into battle, so you took the rollout of the Wardrobe as an opportunity to please this portion of your player base. Well even those people are disappointed with your implementation. Various pieces of oddball headgear seem to be about the only Town Clothing that made the transition into armor skins. This is obviously not what people wanted when they asked to wear their Town Clothes into Battle. Not just hats.

Curtis Johnson assured us that “people will be surprised by how many pieces have become armor compatible”. He was right. I was very surprised, and even more appalled. The vast majority of my Town Clothes are now Tonics. Tonics can NOT be used in battle. Tonics can barely be used as Town Clothes. Nobody wins with this implementation. I will not rehash everything that is wrong with Tonics, because it has been discussed ad nauseum already in thousands of other posts dating back to before the Patch. I have yet to see anyone who thinks this was a good idea. Suffice it to say:

Tonics Don’t Work!

The remaining Town Clothing was transformed into “Outfits”. I guess this is what Curtis was referring to when he said many pieces of our Town Clothing would become armor compatible? The problems with this have also been discussed to death. It is only a slight step up from Tonics. You can wear them into battle, and you can dye them in a limited fashion. But once again, I’m sure this is not what the people who wanted to wear Town Clothes into battle were looking for.

IN CONCLUSION (Or TL;DR if you prefer) the only way I see for you to fix this situation is to make armor skins that look like clothing. You know that is what the people who wanted to wear Town Clothes into battle were asking for in the first place, but you decided to take shortcuts instead.

We know it is a lot more work for you to remake 3 sets of everything for Light, Medium, and Heavy armor, but you made your own bed. Now you’ve got to lie in it. We aren’t unreasonable. We will wait. Perhaps not silently, but we will wait.

And above all, please COMMUNICATE with us. The sooner the better. A wound becomes harder to heal the longer it goes untreated. We have heard very little over the past 2 weeks except “Gem refunds” which is a mollifying gesture, not a solution. Fess up. TELL US you made a mistake. People will forgive you. If you let us simmer in our anger, you will only lose trust and customers. You pretty much sacrificed the Town Clothes aficionados for the people who wanted to wear their Town Clothes into battle, and in the process you have not even given them what they wanted. Let us know that you plan to make things right again.

EDIT: Sorry for re-posting the same thing. My original got deleted and infracted for using large text. I trust they’ll be happy now. It’s a shame the only response we’re getting is scoldings for trivial minutiae, and we haven’t heard a peep from the Devs who tell us to use this thread for our comments. I’ve just about had it with this. Love the game. Hate the lack of communication.

Mine was my pride and joy, but now I wouldn’t be seen dead in it. A stupid tonic that lasts 15 whole minutes. With undyable cargo shorts and bright red boots. [Suggestion] five free Transmutation Charges

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

I’m 100% with you, Angelica… you know that. Some people here just don’t understand. For those of you who don’t think people do much with their Town Clothes, please see this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Share-your-Mix-n-Match-TOWN-CLOTHES

Tonics are a disaster, I think almost everyone agrees with that. But I will wait and see what they look like with the “complimentary clothing pieces” that are being added to them before I decide if I will get a gem refund. Regardless, I will probably hang onto them in the hopes that they’ll get “fixed” someday soon. Some of my favorite pieces are slated to become tonics, and it is killing me.

Outfits – the intended replacement for many of the town clothes – are totally unacceptable to the people who liked town clothes in the first place. Thanks for trying ANet, but I have serious doubts that I will buy any Outfits.

Costumes that have been turned into Outfits are supposedly not eligible for refunds, but we may still petition for one on a case-by-case basis. This is mostly for people who purchased multiple sets I believe. But therein lies another problem for me. Sometimes I bought a second Costume because I liked the Brawl Weapon and wanted another. So even if they are forthcoming in giving out refunds, I may have to suck it up in order to keep my “toys”. Thpppt!

I don’t see myself going for many refunds. I still hold out hope that they will find a way to make some of this stuff work with their system, and I want to be ready to get them back. (The most likely scenario though, is that I’m just out a lot of gems and will have useless stuff sitting in my Inventory for years to come).

P.S. – The Topic… 5 Transmutation Charges. Yeah, great. Anything is better than nothing, which is about where I stand right now.

Set your screen resolution to maximum, crank up all your video settings, and then in your GRAPHICS OPTIONS set Render Sampling to Supersample. No specifics are given – only that it renders “at a higher resolution than the screen”. (And as you mention, of course, don’t take screen caps in .JPG). That’s about as good as you can get unless you work for ANet I imagine. Those Beta options were nice, but my graphics card had problems handling water effects sometimes.

Yes. Right. We never read it. Uh-huh. Sure. It’s obvious.

And FYI: A few of those Town Clothes that you so cutely try to claim are Armor, were actually Town Clothes in Beta.

Sorry I was so cute. I never said they were armor. I DID say they looked like they could easily belong to the various armor weights though. YOU stated unequivocally that they were Town Clothes. I participated in the betas too and never saw anyone wearing different Town Clothes. I would still love to see some proof of your claim. No – scratch that. It still makes no difference whatsover to the main concerns of this thread.

Poor design in a very simple form could be partly to blame. The way coins are displayed in the Mail window might lead to errors. Rearranging things a little would reduce the need to be extra-attentive to what type of coin you are submitting.

See the picture example below. For clarity’s sake, something like this should be done anyplace coins are shown in-game.

I hate to think that the game we love is teaching the lesson “don’t be kind”.

I don’t care for SAB personally, but I see no reason why it shouldn’t be persistent. Also the mini-games… why can’t I play Keg Brawl every day if I want to? Or Southsun Survival? We’re still waiting on that 24/7 Bar Brawl. The shooting gallery. Minipet battles. Polymock. The Charr arena. And whatever the Sylvari do for recreation (competitive flower arrangement?)

Much of this is here and working now. Why can’t it be available to us whenever WE are in the mood?

@videoboy

Please let me try get this straight. Your whole position seems to be that NPCs wear Town Clothing into battle, so that means we should be able to wear Town Clothing into battle too.

Let us assume (although there is nothing to prove it) that the NPCs you mention are in garb that would be called “Town Clothing” if it were available to players.

SO WHAT?

What is the argument? If you want to say that those NPCs fight in Town Clothes, fine; those NPCs fight in Town Clothes. You will be able to fight in Town Clothes too after the 15th. We can fight in Town Clothes NOW (Costume Brawl). Peasants will run out of the fields and fight with pitchforks wearing their town clothes. It is very believable that you don’t have to be in armor in order to fight. You are correct! And we have repeatedly stated we are not against wearing Town Clothes into combat.

So what’s your problem? What’s your argument? I really don’t see why you keep yakking about NPCs wearing Town Clothes into combat. What is the point of it all? You are shooting with no target.

We are against the way this is being implemented. It is directly affecting the wallets of many people, which is always a hot-button issue. With time, we may see more cusomizability (mix ‘n’ match) again, but we have already put a lot of time and effort into achieving our goal. All of that is being thrust aside as if it meant nothing. THAT is the big issue in this thread. The way this change is being instituted is hurting people that have invested lots of time and money in the game. NOBODY cares if your precious NPCs are fighting in Town Clothing or not. That has nothing to do with what we are talking about.

They have not stated whether you will be able to use more than one tonic at once, but current tonics do not allow us.

Curtis Johnson’s 2nd entry in this very thread you are now reading states:

“The endless tonic will grant the appearance of the clothing it replaced. (along with some appropriate complimentary pieces so you’re not naked). They are new tonics, not existing ones.

Only one tonic can be used at one time."

So there I was, downstairs at the Durmand Priory (in the personal instance) looking to do a little reading. Then I looked over and noticed that my mini-map said I was under water!

(See First Picture)

When I zoomed my map out, I discovered that I was an entire zone to the east, in the Dredgehaunt Cliffs! I must have fallen through a wormhole somewhere along the line!

(See Second Picture)

This doesn’t usually happen to me unless I cross through a laboratory in Rata Sum.

As it currently stands, all the NPCs I mentioned are wearing items that are currently considered to be Town Clothing. The sole exception to that, might be Anise. Therefore, my argument is completely valid.

“The Lodge Master and his assistant in Queensdale, Countess Anise, Queen Jennah, etc.”

The last time I looked, NONE of these characters you mention wear anything available to the players. So where do you see any labels that call them Town Clothes? To me, the Lodgemaster certainly looks like he might have on another medium armor trenchcoat. His assistant and Countess Anise look to me like they are wearing something very much like GW1 Mesmer armor. To me, Queen Jennah’s outfit could easily be light armor as well. (It reminds me of my GW1 Vabbian armor a bit).

But that’s only my opinion. YOURS is just an opinion too. ANet has never called those NPC outfits anything at all. Not Town Clothes, not armor, not baby diapers. So please tell me WHO says those NPCs “are wearing items that are currently considered to be Town Clothing”?

Feel free to take the last word on this matter, because I’m done. Unless you can show me more than “It sure looks like Town Clothes to me!”, then there’s point in arguing over a question that has no correct answer.

We are not against Town Clothes becoming armor. That is not our point here. You’re getting what you want. The Town Clothes-loving crowd are the ones who are losing out here. Why are you so aggressive? You should be happy as a clam.

That’s a horribly weak reply, Sonia. I specifically gave examples of NPCs that actually fight in normal clothing and even use a whole race of fighters to establish a precedent and your response is “they never change clothes.” Really? Could you at least find a straw man a little closer to the actual topic? Even the NPCs in armor don’t change armor.

Those NPCs were clearly designed to participate in actual fighting/adventuring and were placed in Town Clothes, rather than Armor. So, it’s obviously not that unusual in the Lore of the game to fight without armor.

The point is, it’s not fair to try and tell other players that it isn’t “right” for them to fight in everyday clothing, rather than armor just because it doesn’t fit into your (I use that term in the general sense) idea of role play. Other people like to role play in the opposite way and pretend that their character is such a awesome fighter, that they don’t need to wear suits of armor to do so. They have just as much right to be able to play that way, as you do yours.

Sonia said she didn’t care much whether we could use Town Clothes in combat. She didn’t say that you shouldn’t be allowed to. I am happy you are getting something you want, and we are not against that. It can be a good thing for us too. What we are disgusted by is the fact that it is at OUR expense, both figuratively AND literally. We paid for something that is being taken away from us in order for your desire to be implemented. And that’s just wrong.

P.S. – It’s hard to say whether those NPCs are wearing “Town Clothing” or “armor”, since those looks have not entered the game as anything but “NPC gear”. It may look like Town Clothing to you, but some of those could very easily be considered armors as well. So that whole argument is a dead end.

The problem is, no matter what traditionally exists in the genre this game has made some changes. Rangers use melee weapons. I have a double dagger elementalist. My mesmer’s best weapon is a sword. Necros with daggers are pretty powerful right now. That’s all melee range.

So my skimpy armor is protecting me in melee range in this game.

I’m just guessing that the amount of people who would’t touch town clothes because they could only be used in towns is greater than the number of people who mix and match….possibly much greater.

And you know, I sympathize with people who bought stuff and can’t use it as it was purchased. That’s rough.

But that doesn’t mean that it was useful to me.

Picture buying a couple armor skins off of the Trading Post. You really only want the gloves and boots off of one set, which look incredible! And the shirt and helmet look great with it from the other set. Awesome, unique look! Your character really stands out in the crowd, and you didn’t have to forge a Legendary weapon or buy a Commander’s blue taco to do it!

Now GW says that they are changing things. You can only wear the armors you purchased as complete sets, with four whole dye channels for the entire set! No more unique look from combining separate pieces.

Now further imagine that a favorite piece of armor is going to become a TONIC instead. Not only is it becoming one single unchangeable piece, but it is also undyable! (And you need to reapply it every time you zone).

They’re offering gem refunds for your tonic, but you will have to petition them on a case-by-case basis to get refunds on your skins. (That will take forever with all the requests they’re going to get).

Whether you bought your gems with real money, or with hard earned in-game gold, you’re probably feeling pretty cheated. Will you buy from the TP again knowing that they could alter your purchase at any time after the fact into something you don’t desire? But never fear… they say they are going to offer many more one-size-fits-all armors real soon!

Good luck! Unfortunately, I think most town clothing advocates gave up after the disheartening responses from Curtis.

We’ve actually been quite vocal. It is Curtis & Company who haven’t said anything in over a week. We haven’t given up. But they are giving us the silent treatment. So with only one side participating in the discussion, it tends to slow down. Which is probably their plan. (See? They aren’t complaining as much anymore. They must have decided our solution is okay after all!)

Just wait until the 15th and they’ll see a HUGE resurgence of voices when people insist on their gems back for more than just the items that were butchered into tonics.

I’ve put a post up on the GW2 Forum, and suggested Wednesday 9th April at 7pm GMT. I know it probably won’t make a difference, but I can’t think of anything else to do. I just feel like we’re not being listened to

http://www.guildwars2roleplayers.com/home/m/2737230/viewthread/12104598-town-clothes-protest-day/page/1

I would love to participate in a gathering. Unfortunately, that is 2 in the afternoon on a work day for me (EST). And 11 in the morning PST (GW2 server) time. And of course if you are in GMT, you would have to be online at about 3 AM to hit the PST servers in their evening Prime-Time hours.

And might I suggest the traditional RP servers? More support there. People who don’t read the forums could spot us and join in.

Everyone needs to take screen caps of the gathering and post them here:
