  • Lion’s Arch was destroyed on February 18th, 2014.
  • One real-life day is equivalent to 12 Tyrian days (2 hours long).
  • It has now been over 8 real-life months since the destruction. That’s 240 real-life days.
  • That’s 2880 in-game days, (or approaching 8 years) for our toons.

Just sayin’… I thought I’d see a little more progress.

Guild leader opened 1.12 million bags and finally got it :P

One million bags is 4000 full stacks. Opening 5 bags every second would take 55 and a half hours (not counting breaks). These fish tales are getting bigger all the time.

I do believe they’ve reverted to their old horrid RNG methods, and that’s all I need to know to avoid even trying to get an incorporeal mutt.

EDIT: I did some quick Googling. Depending on the type of switch used, I found claims of anywhere from less than one million to a manufacturer’s claim of 8 million mouse button clicks before the mechanism dies.

Turn the Outfits into Armor Skins!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

Now, I know why Anet is doing this. It’s because it’s easier and you don’t have to deal with clipping.

Actually, I won the Ancestral Outfit in a contest – the very first Outfit released after they were introduced – and to this day the skirt still clips through the sash. So “no clipping” is not true. And even without previewing, I can tell you for certain that the high collar on the female Human/Norn Noble Count Outfit clips through dozens of hairstyles. So don’t fall for that line of bull.

But I am with you 100%. I spent tons of real life money before April 15th on Town Clothes and other Gems Store goodies. My spending has come to a virtual halt since then. I have never spent one dime on Outfits and I never will. I don’t care how nice it looks, I don’t want to look exactly like everyone else.

As a company, they seem obsessed with attracting new customers (understandable) but totally blind to what their existing customers want. I love the art, and I love the fluid combat (current targeting issues notwithstanding), but they keep taking stuff away from us that we enjoy. I can’t see myself sticking around loyally the way I did in GW1 with this philosophy. Time to stop being cheap. Cutting corners is not the way to keep your customers.

There’s no auto loot? Then what is going on when I kill something and just press ‘t’(personal keybind) or f and everything goes into my inventory automatically?

WHAT SORCERY IS THIS?

I think he wants stuff to go directly into Inventory without pressing anything. The F key is right behind WASD in wearing out early, you know. Gotta protect that keyboard.

Why Is The UI So Bad?

Hamfast.8719

you left off the one that bugs me the most…. UI windows have weird transparency at the top which makes it nearly impossible to grab the title bar for the window you want when multiple windows overlap.

I have ALWAYS hated that transparency. I can never tell which X I am clicking, and often shut the wrong window. It was a “neat-o” art designer’s choice I guess, but has always been a thorn in my paw. Perhaps enough time has elapsed that they’d consider refreshing the basic “look” and give us something more functional and less confusing. (After all, “less confusing” seems to be their big push at the moment).

People love to wait until the last minute.

Barely a week before the Halloween event was set to go live, the forums started to see posts about what people hoped would change/return. Not enough time! It may even be too late for Wintersday already for all I know. But better now than mid-December.

My main suggestion: give us several fun Festival of the Four Winds-like events inside LA to draw the people back. Then on Wintersday Eve (December 31st), Tixx and his helpers will descend from their Airship while we sleep, and perform a little seasonal miracle. Wintersday morning we wake up to find New Lion’s Arch underneath a blanket of fresh snow. All of the Breachmaker dismantled or used for new structures. All holes filled and buildings repaired.

A shining start to the new year, and an upbeat beginning for the new gaming season.

Why do I have to have achievements in only percentages (2/10 10%, or just 2/10)?

SOMETHING had to be the default. They chose percentages instead of fractions. You can hover your mouse pointer over the Achievement in the upper right and it will show the fraction. At one time, we could only see our current completion percentage for the current TIER. But we asked in the forums, and now we can dispay by TOTAL completion as well. It’s worth making a forum suggestion to give us the option to display fractions instead of percentages if desired. (One suggestion per post is the rule/guideline). Go for it!

Why is there an Edit Account button if it only opens a webpage?

Unless I’m mistaken, this is because you can have more than one game from this company, and they will all share the same Account info. When I change my Password there, it changes for both GW2 and GW1. (Your information is literally Account Bound, not Soulbound to GW2).

Why must Black Lion always default to Gemstore?

Make another post and suggest the Black Lion remember where you were the previous session. (The Moderators of the forums want to see one suggestion per post, so your multi-gripe post here isn’t as likely to see action). There are MANY things the game doesn’t remember from one game session to the next: Chat channels. Dye sorting preferences. etc.

Why is there no auto-loot? … Why is there no automatic salvaging (of rarity, can use, etc.)? … Why is there no ‘never pick up junk’ option, or ‘delete all junk’ option?

You could probably create a single thread combining these notions as a suggestion for more advanced loot collection options.

The main thing for you to take away from here is not to post a ton of unrelated things in a single thread. It is too hard to respond to, and is therefor less likely to get the results you want. The Mods may even have an internal policy (since there is so much for them to monitor) to skip over threads that don’t conform to their guidelines (in the interest of efficiency). More work for you, but better odds of a favorable result.

PLEASE Fix Targeting! Broken since 9/9 Patch

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Hamfast.8719

Hamfast.8719

Targeting was re-broken on 9/9. There are numerous other Game Bugs Forum threads to this effect, and nothing has been acknowledged or fixed. Specifically, pressing the key to target “Closest Enemy” is completely busted, and trying to TAB to select the next or previous desired enemy is also working poorly.

  • Almost without fail, targeting the “Closest Enemy” selects someone or something off screen. Almost. Every. Single. Time.
  • More often than not, this target is not even an enemy. (YELLOW text targets are NEUTRAL. GW2 has always been like this, but it’s been even worse lately).
  • Very often, “closest” is not selected. I often wind up aiming at something out of range before the guy right in front of me. (TABBING is all over the place range-wise. I see no clear pattern as to what constitutes the “next” enemy. It seems to be just any targetable thing at any range.)

Yellow targets should never be selected. (Closest Enemy/Next Enemy/Previous Enemy… do you see the commonality here? Enemies!)

Targeting should preference enemies in your field of vision first.

Target Next should go to the next furthest enemy, and keep stepping outwards as you press Tab.

This was all so functional in GW1. Never a problem. Since 9/9 I’m having to go real slow and deliberate in combat just to make sure I’m targeting the guy who’s attacking me and not aggroing a monster offscreen. Not cool.

Should dye channels save per outfit?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If you change Outfits, they revert to their default colors. “Working as intended” as far as the game is concerned, but not working as desired by anyone I know of. So if you like switching Outfits a lot, be prepared to do more dying than a Quaggan at a Krait convention.

Come on do you really wanna customise that ? It looks great as is and no customization needed and you dont need charges every time. Win win if you ask me

It looks nice, and is easy to use. But yes, I very much want to customize that. The high collar on the female Outfit clips through a lot of hairstyles. I also prefer no gloves. And more than anything else, I want 1-4 dyes channels per piece, not per entire costume.

I don’t want to come to the party wearing the same dress as everyone else, no matter how pretty it is. For me, customization is always needed. I want to express my own personal style and creativity, not be a cookie cutter copy of everyone around me. With Outfits, you may as well be wearing a neutral gray jumpsuit. I will not be buying any until they give me a lobotomy to remove my individual personality.

I’ve been waiting forever for them to restore sound to my Golem minis. The clomping of their march and the chirps and pings of their mechanisms were a major part of their charm. They disappeared way BEFORE being added to the wardrobe.

The Toy Golem from Wintersday has sounds. I hear the footsteps of the various watchwork robots and steam creatures belonging to other players. But I want to hear them again on my Miniature Servitor Golem, my Mini PK 632 Z, my Mini Mark I Assault Golem, and my Mini Mr. Sparkles.

Their clamor and clank have been sorely missed for well over a year since my first bug post on the subject. The silence is deafening.

I would also appreciate it if my Witch’s Broomstick didn’t fade away into complete and utter silence either. The absolute hush while riding across the countryside is very immersion breaking (there’s that term again). If the jet engine sound effect MUST get quieter for other player’s peace of mind, at least let it be PARTLY audible and not completely missing.

PS – I never had any “steep learning curve” with Elementalist. But then again wizard-types have always been a personal favorite in most games.

Noble Count Outfit flaw

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hamfast.8719

Are folks finally understanding how important mix ‘n’ match is to people? %#@*&~! Outfits!

Its not that its NOT important to people. I believe they know it is. The problem is a technical limitation that prevents them from doing it. Outfits replace parts of your model so you can wear them in combat as a set.

Yeah, yeah. Blah, blah technical blah. I’m so sick and tired of people defending them on those grounds.

TIME was the only issue with not being able to do it. Not technology. They thought they were appeasing the “I want to wear Town Clothes in combat” crowd, and didn’t have the time and/or manpower (or inclination) to properly incorporate it into the Wardrobe before the release deadline. So they took a lot of shortcuts, and continue to throw Outfits at us in rapid succession hoping we’ll be satisfied with a big selection of those.

And look! NOBODY can wear their Town Clothes in combat now! (Unless they like a “set” as a whole).

We had mix ‘n’ match since the start with our Town Clothes. Clipping was no bigger an issue there than with any other armor pieces. Fighting animations worked as well, since we could Costume Brawl in them. Another window could be added to the Hero Panel and Town Clothes restored exactly as before – non-combat – and people would love it. Then I can kick the tar out of that NPC who turned all of mine into useless tonics.

Dang it, you got me all riled up again. Town Clothes is my hot-button issue. I really didn’t want to rage against ANet on the first day of the Halloween Festival. Please don’t say anything about the %#@*&~! Megaserver.

[Suggestion] More Options

Here’s an option that I wanted to suggest in it’s own thread, but will do just fine here:

The Skill Bar Tooltips are totally out of control. They block everything I want to see anymore. (Especially the Elementalist Elite skill Glyph of Elementals, which has so much information it disappears off the top and bottom of the screen). Yes, some people are still mouse-clickers.

I suggest a checkbox to disable skill bar tooltips on mouseover UNLESS a specific (bindable) key is being pressed. If said key is not being pressed when you mouseover a skill, then a mini tooltip should appear showing only the skill name, cooldown and casting times – just the most basic info – plus a note at the bottom that says “Hold down the [X] key to view full skill info”.

And I’m still looking for some toggles:

I imagine “NPE Off” would only be available after leveling at least one character to 80. I am fortunate that I only have one sub-80 character left of each of the 8 Professions. As far as the mechanics of both the Terrace AND the Airship, my best guess is that someone at ANet decided (for whatever reason) they just didn’t want people logging in and out from those places (even though they aren’t instanced). Maybe they figured that these are small areas and they would get too crowded or something, I dunno.

But although the Airship has an Activity NPC and the Terrace does not, I never use her because of the added pain of a double loading screen when I exit the Activity. (One loading screen to bring me to the Airship from the Activity, then it immediately goes into a second loading screen to send me back down to the ground in Gendarran Fields. And if I earned rewards in the Activity that I want to deposit in my Bank, I must endure a third loading screen to get back to the Airship where I just was!)

It’d be great if you asked around about this when you get back to work on Monday, Gaile! They are right – having a pass on my person should allow me to keep from getting booted out. And nobody would have to come to harm from Quaggans falling out of the sky onto their heads.

Now, shoo! Get back to enjoying your weekend!

A vulture might be nice. A vampire bat for Halloween. A penguin on ice skates for Wintersday.

But I really want a grouchy old Asura dressed in a mailman’s costume who will pop in, disgustedly rip up my mail tossing pieces all over, and pop out again with an angry grumble under his breath.

Hamfast, that’s a tough one, no doubt. Some kind of horrible, centuries-long arboreal arrested development comes to mind. But I know who can have our answer. Those Veteran Hatchlings. Those things have seen some kitten in their suspiciously quick careers.

And Uncle Bill certainly was right. Regarding this and a few other things.

I will have to find those Veteran Hatchlings and see if they know the answer to the age old question: why do women have a pair of panties, but only one bra? Getting that solved would be a Halloween treat as important as rebuilding LA.

Maybe they don’t have enough Bloodstone Dust?

Is that even possible?

An elder wood sink… sigh

On the topic of elder wood, what the heck is an “Ancient Sapling”? A sapling is a young tree. What is an ancient young tree? Is it related to “jumbo shrimp”? Or “boneless ribs”?

I tend to believe your signature line quote is correct.

…But I digress from the topic at hand. What a dirty trick!

A way to hide miniatures?

Most of my characters display minipets (generally quite appropriate to the character and/or setting). But I have zero objection to letting you not see them.

…as long as you support my campaign to give me a similar check box to not display Legendary weapon swooshes and footprints and glows.

They’re a cosmetic thing. They matter for the person who has them equipped but then again I’d rather my epic fights and encounters were fought without Unicorns flying over the battlefield and flower gardens popping up all over the place next to oil puddles.

Increasing the rate of rebuilding of LA would be a treat… I hate doing Claw Island in order to save a bunch of ruins from being destroyed.

Assisting Downed Players (suggestion)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

This exact thing has been suggested several times before, mostly to good player response. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen ANet say anything about it.

Regarding trolling – someone saying they’re on the way to help, and not coming – if the downed player was able to have his MINI-MAP up, and see a LOCATION DOT for the would-be rescuer, it would help to tell if the intent to save is genuine or not.

EDIT: The downed player should likewise be able to send a one-click reply “Thanks! I’ll wait!” or “I’ll be fine… thank you anyway”.

Medium armor is pretty bland in general, personally.

SUGGESTION: Medium Armor Masks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’s probably too late for these masks to be introduced for Halloween – the most appropriate time. But we still have New Years (Wintersday)!

I’m talking some serious mask styles here… not something from one of Marie Antionette’s costume balls. (It would be nice to have some for all armor weights). Masks alone. Masks with a bandana like picture #3 above (although I cringe at the idea of the “bald” look again). Masks with cat-ears. “Shaped” masks that curve around the nose. “Straight” masks that wrap around the head like a blindfold (picture #3 is close, without the bandana, or Donari’s picture without the hat).

Use your imagination, ANet, so that we can use ours. The Norn with the huge curly mustache is just dying for a mask to complete his evil villain look!

Mantra Charges

I don’t play my Mesmer too often, so wasn’t certain. But sometimes I notice that I DO only have 2 charges on some of my Mantras, and not 3. I was putting it down to the possibility that an enemy hit me with some sort of boon removal. Can that happen with Mantras? Can they be removed that way?
