It´s been said already that the anti-farming code isn´t working as intended.
Obviously this bug still hasn´t been fixed!

Get a move on ANet!
I´m not much inclined to log on when I know I´m wasting my time due to your buggy code stealing my mats!!

DualCores, will they ever be viable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: HawkMeister.4758

HawkMeister.4758

The pentium 2 cores should not be beating 4 core AMD systems by that much considering this game uses more than 2 cores.

Finally a word of sanity in this sea of fanboys&gals.

This is the big problem in a nutshell.

It´s irrelevant how well your aged intels happen run this game or even how awesome some laptop supposedly can do hardcore PvP or something.
Which I call shenanigans on with extreme prejudice BTW.

The tech-support fora was swamped with performance problems from day one and instead of a supportive word we get the proud (and useless) announcement of a mothakittens Mac client.
Guess it´s clear now where all the programming power went.

I´d like to know if it will come back to solving a major problem for good chunk of your current customers or if we´ll get an announcement for the XBOX client next?

Can someone explain these "cap limits" with farming mobs/dungeons ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

HawkMeister.4758

Well I just happened a 3rd time onto one of the events in the Metrica starter area and got a whopping 3 karma, some copper and a bit of XP for it.
Roughly speaking about 10 times less then for the 1st run.

So it´s definitely useless now to join up and help people out if you´ve done that part one or two times.
Made me log of for today. Very annoying.

I expected something like this after maybe the 5th farm run, but at 3 this is making the game into a bunch of daily quests.
Just guessing of course that th counter get´s reseted every day, could be much longer for all I know.

NO.
Performance and bugfix patching phase still. Maybe start worrying next year about that.

DualCores, will they ever be viable?

HawkMeister.4758

You obviously haven’t played a bunch of other “great graphics” MMO’s like Aion (CryEngine) or FFXIV. I find GW2’s performance a lot better in comparison.

And I could care less about the AsiaGrindfests.
This is about GW2.

DualCores, will they ever be viable?

Quotes:
*Our time spent playing Guild Wars 2 before the beta closed was far too brief, unfortunately.

*(Update: Because we tested the game’s beta client in order to get this story ready in time for launch, the Guild Wars 2 lead engine programmer, Chad Taylor, dropped us a line to let us know that the game was updated with performance optimizations in the final build. One key change was putting the renderer in its own thread so that blocking driver calls wouldn’t create stoppages in the main game loop. He mentioned that this change should make a notable difference on machines with four or more CPU execution cores, and that a few of the graphics preset options were also tweaked.

As a result of these changes, we’d like to revisit Guild Wars 2 in the near future to re-benchmark CPU performance and update the driver settings images with examples from the full release. Stay tuned for the update, due in mid-September.)

That´s a pretty badly done test with an outdated version of the client.
I´m not giving it much credibility except as a data point from where the client started of pre-launch.
The point here is not how OMGWTFPWN awesome Intel is, but if we´re going to get a better optimized client at all.

Don´t get the Charr and(judging from the player pop. graph) even the Asura hate.
But then I just came here through this game.

To me the Charr seem like a friendly nod to the Kilrathi, and the cat/lion race isn´t unheard of by far in Fantasy and SciFi.

Tengu would be my choice too. But as awesome as the Kodan are, they´re sadly too close to !##! Pandas. Maybe in the 2nd expansion?

What's the gender breakdown for your characters?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: HawkMeister.4758

HawkMeister.4758

Another one with 2m3f here.
One from each race and 5 classes, as I wanted to experience all starter areas and story lines.
Will eventually buy more slots to see the rest of the classes and even out the “gender balance”.

BTW you Asura and Charr haters really are missing out on some quality voice acting.

HawkMeister.4758

So by now it´s clear that anything under 4 cores can safely forget about stable 30-40+ FPS in this game (especially we cheapkitten AMD users :p).
Be it in “high Zerg encounters” and PVP, or just daring to go for medium shadows or (gasp) reflexions.

I very well understand that this game has just started out and may be improved upon. In fact more content (free even) is already a done deal.
That´s all very awesome and great.

But what about the actual engine code?
Is the current performance all we´re ever gona get or is there at least a sliver of light on the Horizon?

Very much hoping for an actual Dev-answer on this one, but I´ll take the opinions of the unwashed masses too.

What exactly does that mean anyway?
Disabling the whole overdrive or switching it on but leave it on the factory settings?

Also I´m guessing this is again for 64bit OS only.

So is sticking a bunch of feathers in your head screaming “I´m the MOA-man!”.

Still won´t help one bit to run GW2 faster.

Lots of ram only helps when the actual system isn´t crap. Won´t help you one bit either when it is.

HawkMeister.4758

Uhm, no it isn´t outside of your control.
It´s YOU (ArenaNet) who “cunningly” forced us to use the e-mail address as the login name.
An obviously abundant resource to buy from certain elements on the internetz.

I personally have never encountered such a thing.
As well as the authentication system you came up with, that makes it basically unusable for a good chunk of your customers who have an ISP that gives out dynamic IP-Adrs only.

Should I overclock my CPU?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: HawkMeister.4758

HawkMeister.4758

Very wise word from Missus Segovia there.
As I play “only” on a lowly AMD PhenomII x2 555 I had no choice but to overclock to get a “bit” more stable FPS.
On an Intel CPU this should be even more dramatic, if your system doesn´t happen to provoke that weird performance bug.

I definitely wouldn´t have even tried it with the stock boxed cooler though. And do take the researching part serious. Overclocking CAN lead to very nasty crashes and/or sneaking data corruption.

OH and don´t bother with OC´ing that GFX card. The performance is way enough and it just needlessly introduces another potential problem.

Same GFX card, same OS, same issue, only difference 12.6 driver and that CAP is installed too.
And what the heck is a target command switch??

It’s an “argument” that you put in the shortcut of your GW2 icon.

Ah, a command line switch. Nah, using the Dx9single is unacceptable anyway for performance reasons.

And as long people keep making games for DX9, like every single one that is ported from the XBox(oh and GW2 BTW), there is no reason to donate even more money to Micro$oft.
Just for the privilege of a new mouse cursor, desktop skin and a broken native sound-hardware acceleration? Well, it´s your money.

I tried playing around a bit with the texture filter setting in Catalyst, and even the LOD settings in the game, but it´s still the same.

The Vista between the Snow Leopard and Raven Lodges is a prime example for this error. The front of the mountain were the jumping ledges are keeps disappearing.

Low FPS - [merged]

HawkMeister.4758

YES!

Switched of the frikken FPS LIMITER (rather set it to unlimited, was on 60 then 30) and finally I have proper FPS and my Phenom II x2 555 3.2GHz and the HD7750 are running hot like they should.
Also for good measure enabled V-Sync and set the Refreshrate to 60 .

I´m still far away from a steady 60 FPS, as I was expecting with a “lowly” dualcore, but at least I almost doubled my FPS from the paltry 20ies and below I was suffering.

You really need to take a look at your FPS limiter code there ArenaNet!

Setup download stops at 10135 kb

HawkMeister.4758

@zjsilvia welcome to the Thunderdome ArenaNet style.
Two GW2 enter (.EXE & .TMP) one comes out.

I´ve been battling this same problem since launch now and also found the solution to find the GW2.DAT / GW2.EXE / GW2.TMP / LOCAL.DAT in my system´s temporary directory, copy them to their own directory and simple delete the faulty exe, renaming the TMP to EXE and install and run the game this way.

But like all bad solutions this one stays with you, because after every update it starts again.
And as this game gets patched daily (hint: this is OK for beta but NOT for primetime!) I daily face now this behavior:
Start game, watch it download about 1-3MB -> crash.
Start again, watch it download the good old 10145MB -> crash.
THEN I´m only daring to backup the old exe as a precaution and rename the TMP to EXE.

For now I´m lucky enough to be able to see the login screen appear everyday, so that I can gaze suspiciously at the download-bar.

Super.

And yes I´ve made a support ticket which got closed as I stupidly mentioned this workaround. And yes, I´m logged in as Admin(32bit WinXP SP3) my AMD drivers work perfectly well and are reasonably uptodate (12.6 with latest CAP on a HD7750), no connection problems whatsoever.

This is something that would interest me too.

Over here in Germany ISPs generally reset the IP address every day. This and the general buggyness of this game is keeping me from using this service.
