Greatswords in this game are for the most part Final Fantasy levels of
“dedrater”(<-begin reading here).
There are just a precious few that don´t break out into the immersion breaking fantasy valley of “ridiculously impossible to actually swing”.
How our toons wield these “fences” is the least part to worry about.

No refuunds!
unknown Asura
Ranger kits are currently bugged and scheduled to be fixed soon.
I actually find orr easier than a level 1 – 15 zone… Funny eh :/
Ugh, not really. Just as I feared.
Was it really THAT overpowered?
I´m a slow leveler and have just managed to get near 80. I´d actually like to finally be “overpowerd” in this game, when I´m max level.
Especially as it´s usually pretty frikken empty and I end up doing stuff alone that´s clearly meant for a number of people.
To me that means even less incentive to risk my expensive gear, or are the loot drops actually working as promised now?
Y E S !
Ha! Take that hivemind!
Actually I would love to have 10 more points to spend in the Traits window.
As for the power-creep problem, we already have it with fractal jewelry and the coming fractal armors.
To mitigate that a bit, new LVL90 runes and sigils etc. should be introduced instead of whole new sets of boosted lvl90 equipment.

Very good, finally a PvE monthly that deserves the name!
Another monthly I can’t complete, because of the reasons given below.
iTroll
Why can’t they add challenging, awesome and fun dailies / monthlies, like “add 10 people to your friend/block list”, “log off 15 times”, “stand idle in Lion’s Arch for 20 mins”, “get 5 grey vendor item trash drops from mobs”, “talk to 2 different Black Lion Trading Post representatives” or “open yet another ’Dailies/Monthlies are horribad QQ -thread” and “QQ about dailies in 5 different threads”.
Heh, nice one. 3 out of 5.
Uninstall again and maybe use that new (win7 only) clean uninstall utility from AMD:
http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/catalyst-uninstall-utility.aspx
Then try the 13.1 again.
There are new WHQL drivers out for ATI.
The 13.1 and even a leaked 13.2 beta, has anybody tried them already?
Please tell us your OS and which card.
Interesting, I have basically written of AMD after they are done with the new XBox contract.
Maybe there will again be a properly performing non-intel x86 platform in the future.
To be more precise, it´s normal for this broken client to randomly underclock all of your hardware instead of running at least one core at full speed.
The 4.3 part of the above link explains nothing about this clear BUG.
Part 4.2-4.3 is explaining CPU bottleneck. If your cores are being underclocked at random then adjust your OS power management settings.
And a again a useless(harmful even) “tip” for what is clearly a BUG of this client.
All this accomplishes is needlessly juice up your hardware while GW2 is still only barely using 50% on all cores.
pure mid evil game.
Dude..
M E D I E V A L
Neither right nor left and surely not MID EVIL!
And it´s Norn!
Boy, hadn´t had such a powerful grammar-nazi attack in ages.
Whew, glad it´s over.
If you have enough people of one server in the underflow, will they just be forced out? But looking to it form the other side of the coin it also would be a good option to play together with people of other servers without using the guesting function.
The guesting feature is IMHO a cop out from implementing the Overflow Server mechanic.
The idea isn´t that trivial to implement for reasons you just mentioned and it basically negates ANet´s design decision of forcing us arbitrarily into servers.
The server divide is forced upon us because of ANet´s hard headed idea of creating a “server loyalty” solely for WovWovWub purposes.
Something I and lots of other people could care less for, but we have to suffer the consequences.
Or rather ANet has to with barely stable log in numbers, or only slightly rising where they could surely climb much higher.
As for the low-level mats problem, that could be remedied with some creative new mystic forge recipes to transmute them to high level mats.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
The steampunk elements are one of the few redeeming qualities of this game.
So much this, I would especially include the magic/alchemy-tech of the Asura.
Some here really need to polish up their history in regard to Leonardo DaVinci.
Even our own medieval times would´ve looked much different without the dark-age causing mini ice-age we´re actually just now getting out of again.
Just ask Al Gore, he knows it very well(muahaha). And is making tons of money with his disinfo.
What´s really missing from this blog is the announcement of the “Underflow Server” for empty maps.
80ies still won´t dabble much in low level maps for the already mentioned gold-sink reasons.
Yet another token cluttering up your bank won´t change a bit about it.
And neither will some new event-chains.
See them once, seen it last. Back to Fractals.
The idea behind the legendary was, if you play the game very well, all over the place and for a long time,
And the idea has failed on all these accounts.
Totally unexpected it seems.
Like people grinding in MMO´s was completely unheard of a concept for the ones at ANet coming up with Legendary requirements.
But fanbois will always white-knight for ANet, even if the Devs themselves have (very much to their credit) acknowledged these deficiencies and promised to mitigate them.
- Reduce resouce grind
- Add more Achievement requirements (All dungeon paths, all jumping puzzles, all mini-dungeons, all meta events ect) so that the Resource / Achievement ratio is about 50:50.
- Add story elements during the creation process (i.e. The only person that can forge the Gift of whatever is hidden deep in the Flame Temple Tombs, the Gift of whatever can only be forged in Mount Maelstrom) and then a final ‘quest’ to add the ‘power’ to it (i.e. You ned to go to Balthazar’s temple, pray, and then defeat the spirit of Vinnie Jones).
- Add lore to it (i.e. Juggernaut was the hammer of Balthazar and contains a drop of Vinnie Jone’s soul).
That´s a great start!
I would actually add general “time achievements” into the whole equation too.
Something like making 3, 6 (9 even) monthly achievements and a number of Dailies, say a 100(200?).
So it´s basically a reward for playing the frikken game, not buying yourself into it with stupid levels of grind or actual “cheating” by buying Gems and through AH shenanigans.
All of the above and disable double-tapping, then put the dodge command on a separate key.
I chose the middle mouse button and can only recommend it.
Now all those accidental dodges and wasting of your “dodge-pool” are a thing of the past.
I´ll make it simple.
The only thing you “expert” players or ANet can force me to is STOP PLAYING the kitten game!
Right now we have gotten an unplanned (like all good things) difficulty progression:
World PvE -> Dungeon Explo. -> Fractals
Dungeon Story should be in there too, but ANet managed to make it completely useless.
As they can´t decide if it should be an interactive movie or the intro to Dungeon play, thus it abysmally fails at both. Including actual rewards for going through it.
If you PvE experts are so super, then go into PvP and actually prove yourself there.
And it would be really super too if you Devs could actually learn to listen to the guys paying for your lunch, instead of trying to force your wild ideas down our throats.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
You kinda missed my point, sorry forgot the sarcasm font.
The day I have to do this is the day I´ll uninstall this game and never look back.
Watching guides may work in that other game, but here it´s next to useless as you simply need actual playtime to learn what the bosses are up to so one can apply the dodges right.
Getting one-shoted then not able to do anything but watch your group zerg on is definitely “hit X in upper right corner” time.
Another big reason why I don´t bother with Fractals.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
So I’m basically have to post something like “lfg xxx, no first timer now”?
Basically yes, that´s what this poorly thought through idea boils down to.
We´re being told to L2P.
Problem is, we´re not being told to where we should actually accomplish that.
I guess watching guides on Youtube all day?
Pity you didn´t make screenshots.
Can you remember from where exactly you jumped and reproduce the bug?
If so then screenshoot that too and write a bug report.
The “r-word” amount of grind is just a weak design idea to try making these items rare.
It doesn´t speak for the ones coming up with this “gameplay”(HAH!) nor frankly the ones who voluntarily suffer through it.
To be honest, if I actually see somebody with a legendary I mainly “pity the foo”.
Though Dontain is still the man.
To be more precise, it´s normal for this broken client to randomly underclock all of your hardware instead of running at least one core at full speed.
The 4.3 part of the above link explains nothing about this clear BUG.
This game has a severe and very hard to pinpoint performance bug on processors with 3+ cores.
You can safely ignore all the “computer is bad” and “get intel” comments. This bug is universal and one simply cannot know if one is going to fall victim to it.
As ANet is currently rewriting a major part of their game(culling) don´t expect this problem to change very soon.
Either get a refund or come back in a couple of months. Or suffer the low FPS.
I myself experienced this phenomenon when going from a PhenomII dualcore to a PhII higher clocked quadcore and noticeably losing performance.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Considering how most items require more than one stack. It’s a drop in a bucket.
Oh Cheezus yes.
The frikken “8bit” stacks!
I´d actually pay money to get “16 bit” stacks of 65k+.
How´s that for monetization, ANet?
One word: Risen.
The most annoying mobs I ever encountered in a decade or two of gaming.
And Fractals grind of course.
You mean they will go into the “crafting box”?
Actually not really, there´s still the issue of left over tokens after you bought something.
And you still endlessly repeat(aka GRIND) the same 3 dungeon paths instead of actually having fun and running some other dungeon or fractal for a change.
So we´re heading now for what, 11 different token currencies?
Not even counting the current and future event tokens. You need to buy a gorram bank slot to manage the kitten things! Especially with the max 250 limit.
Please ANet don´t do the same stupid error as every other MMO.
That then had to backtrack embarrassed to unify the ridiculously unwieldy number of currencies.
I suggest making this new “Open World” Token the new “joker” token for ALL dungeons/fractals and either introduce a two-way exchange option or make the coming “Open World” tokens the general dungeon currency.
Yes, this will lead to people flocking to certain dungeons for speed-running.
GOOD !
The easier for ANet to see what Dungeon needs some love/boost/nerf.
You lured as ALL in with the promise of “NO GRIND!”, yet we grind at EVERYTHING. Just like in any other MMO.
What would be so bad at running different dungeons then buying a specific set maybe of a Dungeon you didn´t even grind?
Right now we have to repeat the same 3 paths
O V E R
and OVER
and over again for the weapon/armor set of our dreams.
BTW I won´t even go for the Karma-Token discussion.
There´s already a thread going on about it and I also don´t understand why you even started using these frikken Dungeon tokens, when there´s already a perfectly good non-gold currency.
Be smart – Shop K-Mart!

And another (42:6:3:2158) one from the Gunnar´s Hold Server(EU).
Looks like that´s it with GW2 this evening.
On the other hand … good luck going back to Lotro… standing still to cast, no dodge, no weapon swaps …. The most stale combat possible exists only in MMO-type games. So fun for GW2 to shake up things.
NOT quite, one can very well have a more dynamic fighting style in LotrO as it also incorporates flanking.
What really is a deal breaker for going back is GW2´s awesome Art style and the incredibly dated LotrO engine, at least for me.
They tried to blanket-balance the skills for many game modes. They are slowly finding out that it isn’t working out and is contributing to an even less balanced meta. (Noted by the Guardian utility split skill implementation).
So MUCH this.
Although I´m not seeing anywhere that they are slowly finding out anything.
The Firefall Devs for example noticed this same problem right now in closed beta and are rectifying it by splitting PvE from PvP gear.
Frankly they should just make the Elite optional, another utility skill would be immensely more useful in PvE.
I have more fun with a warrior swinging a 2hd GS and yet when 3 or more are on me I cannot even back off or escape without dying.
This seems to be the key in all this whine.
This game is NOT one where you can aggro mobs to your hearts content or even HAVE to, to “tag” them.
Again, L2P.
The above Youtube guide is actually the BEST introduction to this game you can find.
Ditch keyboard turning and learn to somewhat circlestrafe. And that dodge isn´t your default escape, but the way to avoid a “finishing move” from your enemy.
These ALWAYS have tells. Learn to recognize them.
But really, don´t ever fight more than 2 mobs at the same time as a noob.
If you can´t do this or it isn´t fun for you, then you have indeed wasted 60$.
So about the equivalent of watching 2-3 crappy movies, tough.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
I think the crux of the OP’s question is, ‘why is your choice of Order tied to your choice of action in that last mission.’
…
It’s also entirely plausible for a character to, for example, intend to join the Priory but think the Vigil or the Order of Whispers has the better plan for the specific situation
VERY much this.
And I really hope Anet will take heed of this glaring dilemma and allow us to do just that during the next expansion.
It was OK and made even sense to get only order specific quest while making your way up the “ladder”. But now that we are “the Chosen Ones and Zaitanslayers” it would actually make more sense to get the option to help other orders out.
It´ll be quite the undertaking to interweave not 3 but 9 different story paths, but it would help replayability immensely.
Yeah http://gw2lfg.com/
don´t leave home without it. Essential just like Spidey and the GW2DB.
You can come up with a world of things and they wouldn’t have to change the skill bar at all. And give us some more depth at the same time.
Exactly.
And I´m kinda stumped they didn´t do this.
It´s like they had a great idea to get rid of the GW1 balancing nightmare then “swung a sword again” and forgot to finish it.
BTW this is totally separate from the field-finisher dynamic, although some synergies could be introduced there too to make it more “pro”.
Short answer: NO.
Slightly longer answer: Because of latency we NEED separate servers.
For all your armor needs. Or http://dulfy.net/category/gw2/fashion-gw2/
Pretty much agree with everything you said and you managed to reconcile me again with all that Fractal gear stuff.
I did get kitten-tinklely about it introducing the typical MMO gear grind. But I guess it´s not that big a deal after all, for now. And when you ignore them Fractals, which I do.
As for the low skill problem, agreed. It does get boring, even on the Ele!
Not more skills are needed but actually better combos, more intricate.
Kinda akin to what your typical beat ´em-up is doing with just a couple of buttons, but NOT going quite that far.
By “combos” I´m talking about the different attacks most weapons already have on key 1, but then add more combinations between the other keys.
As a bonus make them unique to the dungeon weapons, with every dungeon having a different combo option.
As super bonus, make them craftable and let us freely assign the “powers”.
Blame Einstein.
That pesky speed of light.
Get proactive! Invent the Subspace Router or the Quantum Switch.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Again, make sure you´ve got the latest GPU-Z version and use that green question mark to test it properly.
Other than that it might be some weird mobo bug, google your mobo on this.

The need is clearly to actually use the hardware you paid for(the full 8GB instead of only 3) and get GW2 running properly. You will get access to GW2´s high-res textures only in 64bit!
If you ask me it´s plain false advertising that GW2 runs on 32bit. It has just too many issues (as you´re experiencing).
And upgrading to Win7 64bit is entirely free for anybody with the 32bit Version!
You just have to download the appropriate ISO from Microsoft, burn and install it(overwriting the old system), then register with the code from your old 32bit copy.
Hope you didn´t loose it.
In the mean time your only option is to decrease the screen resolution you´re playing GW2 in. At least for WvW, it doesn´t seem to be such a big problem in normal PvE.
Switching to low textures isn´t an option IMHO. Game just looks too terrible.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Let there be .. no magic find.
Isn´t it obvious? The new one is much cheaper to render.
Looks like a lot less polygons to take care of (that jewel and cogwheel alone), yet it has now a much more organic and sleeker look.
Frankly I like the new one better, but that´s mainly because I hate those Final Fantasy “Pie-server” swords.
Also, there will be no new race, profession, or new region with these larger Feb/March releases. One of our major goals with these releases is making our existing world as strong as possible, ensuring there are reasons to go to all the locations in the world we’ve already built, and strengthening the core game we’ve provided.
Y E S !
That´s exactly what´s needed right now!
Awesome.
Still hope for implementation of the “Underflow Server” to gather deserted maps from all servers into one, for fun´s sake. Basically the opposite of our current Overflow Servers.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Youtube or it didn´t happen!
Seriously, not even a pic? Aww.
Anyway congratz on having fun.
Don´t count out the Necro´s Staff after a properly executed combo!
HEH, I like it.
Didn´t think the (male reproductive organ)-sword could be replicated.
But after taking a short peek here, I think the Greatsword of the Dragon’s Deep would fit the best?
BTW, even that game has better medium armor than we do. :P
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Are you sure you´ve tested correctly with GPU-Z?
The power-saving of your OS can throttle down this setting. GPU-Z has therefore a special tool in its latest version.
Just click on the question mark next to the businterface and activate the rendertest.
If you still only get “@x1 2.0” then you are severely limiting your hardware. No matter what Far Cry thinks!
And I bet Far Cry will like it too when you finally put your GFX card in the slot it´s supposed to be. Usually right next to the Processor.
And do yourself a favor and upgrade that other 32bit Win7 to 64bit. You can reuse the old code and even download the right ISO from Microsoft for free.
On a final note, a lot of people will read this thread and feel this request is trivial and not worth the time, they might even object to having skimpy armors in the game
Indeed sums this whole “discussion” up pretty well, IMHO.
I could care less which dangly bits are visible or not, but this game has much bigger fish to fry and clipping errors to kill.
Yah, that made me chuckle for quite while too!
