I turned up at Southsun expecting Karkas to be the toughest mobs around, only to find my party wiped a couple of time by the amazing Drake horde straight from Nothingness during the patrol event.
Simply solution would be to give us a male and female version of those Drakes. With only the females doing the confusion, very fittingly.
So that the difficulty could be a bit easier to finetune.
Anybodies guess.
But I think after this special event month is over and the permanently changed Southsun cove is introduced, is a pretty safe bet.
They have to replace the constant riot events with something, after all.
And just today I witnessed that Lionguard “Sheriff-Lady” turn up at the barricade and have a convo with an NPC about some “arrogant Sylvari”.
Can´t remember the name now but it was from one of the missing achievements.

It´s completely irrelevant how-the-kitten-ever unique is defined in a game.
This is exclusively the fault of a shoddy programmed UI, that leaves the user alone at key decisions during the game.
OP has every right to rage and if only more would, then the UI team would finally “feel the whip”, so that this type of superfluous error would stop diverting valuable GM resources.
Fanboism and RTFM posts excusing and actually blaming the user on this are so counterproductive, it´s past ridiculous.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
I disagree (having only read the Tl;Dr, I got kittendropings to do man!)
All themepark content will be gobbled up in the fraction of the time it took to create.
I was hoping ANet actually wanted to be different and uhm, LEARN from this cardinal mistake in the MMO industry.
If you want true longevity you need to let the player create their own content.
Eve Online is the only current somewhat successful example of this I know of.
And yes Mr. Don´t-speedrun-UR-A-Breaking-The-Game.
THAT is player created content! Namely players deciding they can´t be “asked” to deal with boring, tedious, repetitive game mechanics.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Exchange “Consortium” with “NC Soft” and suddenly it all makes sense.
/conspiracy
Yeah, I´ll still ignore anything crab. I´m weird like that.
And I´m nowhere near to upgrading the backpack to ascended levels anyway.
Pretty sure Devs stated multiple times that MF doesn´t work on chests or even Vet/Champ+ Mobs. Just normal lootdrops where it is definitely noticeable.
Frankly at this point I could care less about anything Biowarez.
What is bugging me though is that I´m still unsure what the heck happened with this “meltdown” Alliance.
And yes I have all the achievements, watched all convos and usually love MMO/CRPG lore, but this whole “arc” simply evaporated over these last 4 months.
The only thing I now remember it for is, that it was conceptually needed by ANet´s content crew to trap the refugees in the Consortium´s pyramid scheme on Southsun Cove.
Meh.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Thanks!
I won´t bother with anything crabtossy and am stuck at exactly 24 achievements.
So there is still hope to get some tentacle action next month then.
LOL, the auth. servers have just gone online now!
Well done ANet.
May as well close the thread.
Judging from gw2status.de it´s only the authentication servers that are down.
Pretty much the whole rest is up.
This could very well be a DDOS attack, not very unlikely with the slew of similar attacks plaguing the Internet lately.
A short message from the Devs would be nice, as in the mean time all we can do is just wait and rumormonger.
BTW, what about other NC Soft games?
Anybody knows if they are still working?
If I were Korean-Boss-Dude I´d be thanking my ancestors on my knees, daily, that people are still willing and ABLE to spend cash on Internet pixels instead of, for instance FOOD.
I just hope the majority of those don’t work in the financial market
Did you actually see the insanity that lately dares calling itself “financial market”?
The quality of posts in this thread here are miles above that worldwide casino and its dealings with fantasy monies.
Pretty much on par with Korean-Boss-Dude, who seems to think he can order good MMO content in some Chinese sweatshops or something.
Well, I “upgraded” my System from AMD to Intel and did a fresh install of Win7.
Very happy with it as the FPS has improved greatly and the Win7 WHQL13.4 drivers seem to work better too.
The annoying lines are finally gone.
As an event that took about 2-3 moths too long and yet again squandered precious dev work-time desperately needed for polishing/repairing existing content.
Oh yeah , and yet another nice Dungeon that has vanished(see wasted Dev-hours) instead of becoming a permanent expansion of the game.
Like uhm, maybe another Fractal Instance?
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
GW2 could care less about your GFX card, a semi recent one like yours is completely adequate.
But it hates AMD.
You´ll need a new Intel motheboard and processor. Get an i5 3xxx.
Anet wants you to be an Achiever!
So deal with it.
Actually no kidding.
Apparently it´s super complicated to rewrite the UI so it doesn´t annoy you.
Only need to buy it once and never again spend money on it.
And the fools mostly believe me.
U R wrong!
NOCAPES!!! [/edna]
Clipping is already bad enough without introducing mandatory clipping nightmares.
Gauntlets of Burning Doom!
Yahhahah /cough Sorry. ;P
I´m not getting it, what´s so funny?
I like it, finally those kitten achievements are actually good for something!
So where´s the Legendary torch?
Kidding!
Bolt looks indeed awesome, but what is your off-hand weapon?
Can´t make it out.
Patch today is implementing the “Custom Arena” feature, which will allow 1v1 against anyone, its in the Mists only
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-custom-pvp-arenas-and-spectator-mode-beta/
Yeah, but that´s all just too complicated! Yet another feature that funnels players away from each other into more instances. And keeps the cities useless empty shells.
all players will be able to purchase custom arena kits from the gem store!
But of course generates income.
Got it!
Correct me if I´m wrong, but you can´t hurt people from your own server while in the Mists?
Duels are more than just ekitten contests(though there´s that too). It could be a much needed quick and dirty way to test out builds and actual real-life DPS.
Just make “Charricus Maximus” a separate free for all quasi intra PvP arena.
You don´t want duels? Don´t go there.
You have something to say about my mother? Lets meet in the Charricus, kitten!
Yes, in one place and one place only.
The Charr Arena!
Charricus Maximus 4tw!
The thing is already an instance, so with the added spectator mode functionality ANet could get creative.
That’s the type of area I wouldn’t mind in the Hall of Mists. A race inspired dueling arena.
Charr could have the Arena.
Humans could have a Brawling Pit.
Sylvari could have a Dueling Circle.
Norn could have a Moot Hall.
Asura could have a Golem Gala or something neat like that.
Oh, nice ideas!
Hadn´t even thought that far. ATM I would be baffled beyond BELIEF if ANet could manage giving us this area as a simple out of the way map for these things.
4 more maps with different layouts sounds like outright decadence to me!
Stop telling him he should transfer!
It´s totally counterproductive and actually costs money if that server is so empty.
And downright useless, as he can easily Guest for PvE grinding purposes but probably has nice access to WvW due to his WvW que not being so overrun like on other more populated servers.
Ingame notice of patch going live in 1-2 hours.
So I guess ANet counts time in “wife/girlfriend” time.
“I´m finished in 5 minutes!”
;)
Yes, in one place and one place only.
The Charr Arena!
Charricus Maximus 4tw!
The thing is already an instance, so with the added spectator mode functionality ANet could get creative.
If they wouldn´t be occupied with all kinds of other “more important” stuff.
Yeah, just tried the Moto Dungeon again and I´m suddenly getting FPS in the tens!
Completely ridiculous.
Definitely didn´t get that low FPS when it was introduced. Oh well.
I’m also pretty sure the devs mentioned somewhere they WILL optimize it for WINE, since a Linux release is not planned.
GW1 is famously one of the most stable WINE games on Linux ever. Why not continue the trend with GW2?
Ok, all for it then, if it means that the standard client´s code gets streamlined and stops behaving so erratically.
Like for example on the character menu full 60 FPS in windowed mode but breaks in to 39 when switched to fullscreen.
AND sometimes it happens like that, other times it doesn´t!
Meaning something is really wrong with (probably)the hardware detection, or ANet has found a way to write code dependent on sunspots and/or astrological alignments.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Yeah, most likely doesn´t even work on Pirates. Just view them as the potion for the Dungeon.
This is the Caudecus Dungeon potion, if the mob isn´t in there it doesn´t work on it.
Another example for this is the “Ascalon potion”.
Though a bad one as half the mobs in there aren´t Ghosts. But Ghosts are kinda undead too, but that´s what the Arah dungeon potion is for.
It´s all very thought through.
Actually Krosslite is quite right with this thread.
But what he and ANet just don´t seem to understand is why the heck don´t people follow their nicely laid out yellow brick road?
I´m often the first one to to start of an event chain and quickly find a couple of people joining me, after I watched the kitten yellow asterisk waiting alone for minutes on the map.
So where´s the problem exactly?
the pre launch optimism is so funny now
Wish I´d never seen this vid. Makes me even more depressed about all the wasted Dev hours sunk into the now useless Halloween and Wintersday events.
Oh well, at least the useless alcohol one can buy everywhere makes some sense to me now.
<3
:)
And if the Devs are actually reading this, a short info on the situation with the out-of -house Umbra Occlusion Culling module would be very appreciated.
Are those Icelanders still of the opinion their code is working perfectly but everybody elses is crap, or do they actually help in the troubleshooting?
EditEdit: Please take a look at your FPS Limiter, something just isn´t right there.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
We need them to optimize GW2 for WINE, at least
Uhm, sorry but no.
They are already supporting an Apple client, that has a marginal userbase below their worldwide WinXP 32bit user clientèle.
Adding another marginal userbase to support is not exactly a good idea when their core client is crap.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
I’m still debating on either grabbing a 660ti, or simply buying a new comp. There’s really not much else I can upgrade in mine,
No need to get a completely new rig, your core components are totally adequate. Though a SSD drive to install the OS on and run your main game from is basically mandatory these days.
A new Gfx card is really your best bet, maybe the wifey can get your old one. It´s pretty power efficient, so should run in older computers.
I´d get the new 650ti Boost over the 660ti . Adequate performance but dramatically higher power efficiency.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Did u even consider how useless gear pinging is ? Just annoying really.
You´re completely wrong, it´s very useful!
I immediately know which group I don´t want to belong to.
Let the “elitez” stay among themselves and ping each other their OZOM gears when they finally managed to get “über”.
And then hopefully never return to this game again.
The screams of pain, anguish and frustration when that happens…not to mention the endless I am quiting threads…lol
LMAO! Can´t wait!
Kartzaz up there found the core issue of this specific problem/bug.
GW2 severely underclocks the processor!
I first exchanged my Dualcore Phenom II 555 for a Quadcore PhII 965, and where the 555 ran at constant max speed, 85-95% on both cores, the 965 barely ever touches his max 3400 Ghz on any core. Meaning my FPS got WORSE!
The GPU has always been rather sleepy in this game.
Though my FPS never got this catastrophically low, they still are barely around the 30ies. This is definitely a client bug and it has been known pretty much from the start.
I´m about to upgarde to Intel, but when this bug again shows up, I´m outa here.
Probably for good.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
13.4 still didn´t fix anything for me(HD7750). And yes, I uninstalled old drivers.
Not trying AMD´s new uninstall tool, as it´s for Win7 only and I have WinXP(though not for long anymore).
BTW Wedge, if you still see seams then the bug hasn´t gone for you either. You just found a new version.
Rata Sum screenshots from GForce cards show perfectly even looking textures, no discernible tiles whatsoever. I´m really getting fed up with AMD´s crap.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
So she´s broken on most(all?) US Servers too?
Raids, like content that can only be solved through effective cooperation wearing predominantly non-berserker gear? For example, in special places like Dungeons?
Nah.
Who needs that?
Poo – Tah – Toe !
Do you have a SweetFX that Won’t crash the game I can download?
May be a driver problem. Try to properly uninstall your old drivers 1st. AMD even has a special driver removal tool now(for win7).
Did you use the latest SweetFX Version?
Star Wars the old republic aka Tortanic.
Ooouh! You kids and your newfangled Abrevs..
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
The game is way to new for engine optimization. You want to see bad optimization try Tortanic. You will lol.
Tor_what_?
Never heard of it.
On the other hand everybody heard of GW2, was the talk of the town during the last E3 and didn´t even have a booth.
BTW, you forgot the “little”(as in humongous) player culling problem they optimized. Very important for the couple of peeps in PvP.
Us PvE pleebs (aka. majority of players) are so happy for them. :P
The problem is the game is far from a good state where they have the luxury of temporary content.
..
I am absolutely fine with temporary content as long as the game is in a good place, GW2 isn’t.Class balance is an absolute travesty and probably the worst among any AAA mmo that has ever released.
The combat is shallow and stale.
SPvP is in a dire state and will probably never be an eSport like ANet wanted.
WvW needs some serious reworking. I could go on.
The basic game systems need serious attention, not more temporary content. What makes it even worse is that almost every additional game mechanic they’ve added have had massive issues/design flaws, it does not give one hope that when they finally do rework base systems that they will get it right.
Just had to QFT this great post, as it so perfectly sums up the core problem with all this fluff.
Do I have to remind the unwashed masses, that the reason Ascalon isn´t the easy-peasy cash cow anymore, but now has some pretty interesting Dungeon & Boss mechanics, is because of ONE DEV ( with some minor help? ) and his countless personal working hours ?
I don´t even want to imagine what he could´ve done to the complete Dungeon content by now , with even half of the teams working on all those frikken jumping puzzles for this weird (American only btw) Halloween obsession and the other Christian Holidays Specials.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Pretty sure I read about all ANet said on their GFX tech and DX11 is up there with a PS3 port. So not happening!
As for Lotro, I have a very hard time going back to that game. Even on medium textures GW2´s Art beats the kitten out of that Grampa Engine.
Of the 1500+ DEs in this game most are in Orr and part of a DE web Meta-event chain.
So share with us all these wonderful toys you got for doing this.
Please… please share
What, that you seem to be weirdly in love with one of the most annoying(till lately) “endgame” maps in any MMO I´ve seen or heard of?
I don´t feel like repeating all the points why you are wrong, DiogoSilva´s posts further up pretty much explained that already.
I just want to add for Geotherma´s (and possibly even your´s) enlightenment that, yes that “MMO that shall not be named” usually makes Endgame the standard carrot-on-a-stick Geargrind. But it really was a reason to actually employ special tactics and having to learn how to coordinate.
Up till just very lately the Zerg solved ALL problems in GW2, thus there is no real Endgame.
This is what people crying about the missing endgame mean. A reason to actually wear something else but Berserker gear.
LoL, I´m just trying to dodge my next infraction, prolly useless anyway by now.
Define complexity. GW 2 graphics is already complex.
You character will adapt to graded slopes and a lift a leg higher than another
Dude, she´s frikken floating!
Are you trying to win a fanboy award or something?
Yes they added somewhat less braindead collision detection. But their MAIN graphics optimization isn´t even done in house but by those Icelanders from UMBRA.
And the kitten Occlusion Culling is clearly broken in this game, as the last 8 months in the Tech Support Board has proven.
on FPS, less populated map avrg 115 frames, higher populated map avrg 75-85 fps and in WvW avrg 25-30 fps (after culling is removed)
additional info:when world boss chest loot is only soulbound, on claw of jormag event, 25-35 fps on avrg
Thanks for the heads up. As I´ve gone for an i5 my performance should be slightly(I hope) worse than that.
But at least it seems to be playable, unlike now where I get single digits while in the middle of a Dragon Event(or near a kitten Molten Alliance Portal (what the kittendroppings is up with that ANet?!)).
Haven´t even bothered with PVP yet.
