Political correctness is tough and I fear incurable. Once it sets in.
OP you have my bookah-sword.
Sometimes I ax myself…
Yeah, very.
Though it´s a pretty safe bet that just as the “theme based” unlimited picks and sickles these skins will be gone too.
Which of course would be completely ridiculous, with the amount of time that it took to make them.
But the last months that didn´t stop ANet from deleting their content either, right?
Sorry to break it to you but you bought into the anti-hype line and sinker
http://www.gamerzines.com/pc/arenanet-planning-fortnightly.html
“Anti-hype” wat .. that doesn´t even make sense.
But thanks anyway for pointing out that article.
Horrible news!
At least now I don´t have to get so aggravated at the constant content-murder.
I´ll just lean back and watch the car-wreck develop in slow-mo.
:(
New dungeons, New jumping puzzles, WVW map updates, UI improvements, Landscape change with some RP story.
Heh, we had all of that, but it got deleted.!
I think it´s reasonable to presume that we´re out of luck on this one.
As it´s the middle of this story line and ANet is using achievements as markers for your storyline progress.
Though on the last story I only did the solo Canach but left out the annoying Noll encounter “Dungeon” and still got to see the ship blow up.
Who knows which achievement will count this time.
So best idea would to keep the content it. That still gives the feeling of an always changing world but also means there will be more content for people to play.
Well see that´s exactly the problem with a “genius” idea like a living story. They simply can´t as it wouldn´t be a story anymore.
At least the static&frozen way ANet is currently handling the Map instances/servers.
Living content gets patched in, map instance gets unfrozen updated to the new content, refrozen. Repeat on the next step only the old stuff is getting deleted first.
It cannot work another way and that is why it fails.
Basic player psychology 101:
D O N ´T
T A K E
A W A Y
O U R
S T U F F
!ONE!!ELEVEN!!
Granted, after the first viewing pretty much everybody could care less for the cutscenes. THAT you can add and delete at your hearts content.
But adding then taking away complex content like a truly working and fun Dungeon is very well serious internet business!
Colin did promise that Living Story is still in a ‘testing the waters’ phase, so I’m hopeful that things will go better as we head towards Christmas.
Holiday events seem to have an excuse
Yeah, Colin promises a lot.
In hindsight what kittentinkles me off the most was how early they started with the temporary content(Halloween) instead of bugfixing and Dungeon fixing, making good on promises from before launch like Polymock. Or the DR Bar Brawl, without which ALL the alcohol in the game has become useless as it was supposed to give boosts during that minigame!
Although I´m even somewhat sympathetic towards the need for Holiday events, as basically every other MMO has them, Halloween clearly was the first step in the wrong direction that GW2 is headed now for the last 8 months.
Reporting a bot is joke in this game.
At least it was when I last tried, sometime last year.
What happened to it?
Ok, let´s see if I can put down the list from memory..
- Halloween Event(gets deleted)
- Southsun Cove Karka Invasion(leaves an empty island)
- Winters Day(gets deleted)
- Fractal Dungeons(grind till the cows come home)
- Living story starts (new content comes in, gets deleted and comes in, gets deleted and comes in, gets deleted ..)
- Moto Dungeon(gets deleted)
- Dragon Bash(soon to be deleted)
I think that about sums it up, right?

Anet basically promised the next living story “episode” to revamp a dungeon.
I suggest CoF.
Sorry but some vague fora rumors aren´t going to make me sweat anymore.
Colin is going to release a statement soonish, and that is already rumorish enough (see the discarded manifesto vid).
After basically spending my time daily in this game since launch and now almost envying the OP for taking a break, there better be some good stuff in that speech from Colin.
It gives the world the sense of living, thats what ArenaNet claimed before they released the game, they want to make this game world living and breathing. Thats why They introduced the living story feature. .
Sorry to break it to you, but you bought that hype hook line and sinker.
Temporary content is a phenomenally bad idea in a MMO that´s supposedly taking itself seriously.
It works great in casual games, but GW2 is everything but.
It placates the bean-counters as they see numbers rise on introduction. And the quick buck these player numbers promise is all these types care about.
The ONLY thing that´s making a MMO live & breathe are the players, not some temporary ride in the Themepark.
Corrrrect.
Ok, some of these had “free” skins, but apart from that it´s pretty much a big waste of time.
Dev-development hours (thus money) and our own time, for willingly grinding our kitten-hineys of for some ridiculous “Achievements”.
The writing on these has been very hit and miss too, as to be expected with unpolished and rushed content.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
They did? Great!
No more math for the Ascended ones.
Well suit yourselves then.
As long as people keep buying trench coats and skirts ANet will make them gladly for you.
Very much interested in the answer too.
Nothing about this Dungeons interests me and what I read of the shenanigans by Achievement fanatics during random PUGs is downright of putting.
Why do you even care?
Apart from the somewhat cool female heavy, it´s an amalgamation of the usual skirt and trench-coat motifs with increasingly more ridiculous cogs bolted on to the stupidest and outright deadliest(for the wearer) places.
Quite frankly I haven´t got the slightest inclination to even try it with my guild.
I could care less for the “achievements”.
What I read in the guide sounds like being a cat in a room full of rocking chairs and on top of it, learning this dungeon is virtually useless when it´s again gone for good next week or so.
But maybe I´m a bit burned out on GW2.
I got my heavy P/T/V gear in Orr, well except for the Helm. Which I bought from Ascalon and it´s so butt-ugly I used up a lvl80 stone just to be able to wear it.
But OP´s message is encouraging, I still need two superior monk runes.
lol
OP is very much right.
This legendary just seem unfinished compared to others like Twilight or the Unicorn shooting bow.
Very saddening as the basic concept is very cool and could go so many ways to make it actually legendary.
Bottom line, I just don’t want to repeat BORING AS HELL CONTENT.
Then kitten DON´T!
Your idea is terrible and you should feel terrible.you’re a bad person and should feel terrible!!!
/sarcasmAmazing….
First of all mister, don´t put words in my mouth!
I didn´t attack Nooka personally, but his post and his idea that ANet is somehow responsible for him “touching the stove and getting burnt”.
This thread exists because Nooka chose to make all crafting tiers and world completion on one character and now somehow demands that an alt has to get everything for free again.
Something that´s unheard of in any other MMO, but please correct me if I´m wrong.
I´m very much an altoholic too, but the entitlement just really rubbed me the wrong way.
Not really.
We simply cannot say as we don´t have any idea how the patcher will work for you. Or what it downloads.
For instance there has been a very nice dungeon that isn´t now in the game anymore. Will the patcher add it to your batch? We don´t really now.
Just start the thing and you will see.
BTW, keep us posted. This is actually a quite interesting topic.
P.S. my .dat is 19.1gigs, but about 1.5(I think?!) of that are the German soundfiles.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Champions should drop mandatory greens and the harder ones (I´m looking at you Monster thingy at Dragonblest Hold, Wayfarer Foothills) a daily chest.
It´s downright insulting our intelligence to battle some of these.
I understand well that a balance has to be found between “inundating” the player with items and cash and keeping things frugal to battle inflation. Especially in a game that basically finances itself through a virtual currency that can be bought instead with actual in game Gold.
But the current balance is much too askew, hampering player satisfaction.
Which is the real currency in any MMO.
Bottom line, I just don’t want to repeat BORING AS HELL CONTENT.
Then kitten DON´T!
Your idea is terrible and you should feel terrible.
Apart from the minor inconvenience to refresh your waypoint network, NONE of the things you whined about are necessary to have on an alt.
So you already can craft everything and you have your map completion on one character. Super.
Now you´re basically complaining that you can level that alt to full level by sitting
in front of the crafting stations.
That is what the esteemed poster you quoted tried to infer.
Woosh..
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Logans disdain for the Liongard probably stems from his time as a slave Gladiator in LA, see Destinies Edge.
Love the Elminster nod, totally didn´t occur to me!
Actually so far that´s the most interesting part of this whole Personal/Living Story arc.
Wonder when we´ll hear from E again.
Well, technically she didn´t heal but pretended to raise him.
A gal like Mai can raise me anytime.
I can confirm(albeit 2nd hand) they drop from normal mobs too.
A random guy I puged with in the Charr starter map suddenly exclaimed he got a wing from some devourer.
we’ve seen folks feedback and are adjusting that strategy to include a much larger mix of permanent updates going forward.
Dungeons will be part of this strategy, living world teams will be doing work on our permanent dungeons rather than them being ignored,
This is the best news I heard since launch.
Polish > Hype.
And while I might have your ear:
Bring back the Molten Dungeon and keep the new Aether-thingy!
Just make the kitten things part of the Fractal rotation and let the Asura in there make up some technobabble so it fits.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
What do I have to do to get a decent NON trench-coat/skirt armor in this game?
Obviously just paying with real money doesn´t help much.
I also know arenanets total staff number has grown – and is still growing.
I really hope this is not just some internet rumor.
As seeing those pitiful Dev-numbers on the Glassdoor page just makes me sad.
Most of those need to be doubled, tripled even.
And then the content they awesomely manage to create gets discarded like a used bottle. Like the molten dungeon and surely the upcoming Aetherblade one too.
Most infuriating as they would be great additions to the (now) stale Fractals rotation.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Bunch of slack-jawed (necroing)sourpusses around here, GW2 storytelling will make you a god d-man lorelovin´ Tyrannosaurus.
Just like me.
;)
Strange. I remember mobs actively getting out and avoiding AoE. This was back in Beta though.
If that really happened then it´s surely a problem with server computing power, now that they have to supply AI for 10000 more instances than in the beta.
Remember not only is every map a server but every dungeon/fractal instance too.
And just yesterday I had quite the noticeable skill lag from time to time in a plain vanilla Brisban map. So I guess the possible “AI´ness” that we have now is as good as it´s gona get, until somebody figures out how to code some serious parallel number crunching GW2-servers.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
with a necromancer for 9 months because of stealth stomping
What happened to your Deathshroud, can´t you hit it quickly enough?
Thought about going WvW with my Necro too, hoping the Shroud would protect me from just that.
Also wrong fora. This belongs in WvW.
Guild Airships!
Now that would be some proper housing.
Queensdale´s Troll has none. But I fear it´s intentional, otherwise the bots would camp this thing 24/7.
Also sometimes ANet is sneaky and you have to stand around a bit for the chest as the event continues afterwards. But people usually explode away when the kill is finished.
To alleviate OP´s problem some time ago we supposedly had a “loot fix”, so champs at least would have something worthwhile on them.
Still getting mainly blues(whites even) from them though.
Quite frankly, just give us a die option.
I´d like to have them glow jade green for my Necro and I´m sure others have their very own preferences too.
With that amount of grind (or gold spent) this should´ve been part of the package.
I got nuttin.
And after going back now I even had to recycle my first white.
And the Queen failed too.
Pure waste of time.
really? you can stun the Moas….ahahahahahaha, is any of the content released with this patch not a bugfest or exploitable?
Anet, hire some QA people please.
I doubt that you could do it any better.
Actually he could, and me and you and about 10000 other players, if ANet would start using a proper testserver.
Like pretty much every other MMO out there.
But they seem so fond of falling flat on their face after pretty much every new content launch, oh well.
100k that´s 400 Stacks!
Where the kitten are we supposed to store all these stacks?!
Edit:OK, just noticed them Jorbreakers. So one only has to deal with 4 stacks.
Still 100k is just too ridiculous for me.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
I believe it does
I get way better drops wearing it in World events than not wearing it..probably bugged.
By now it wouldn´t surprise me one bit.
LOL!
Reminds me of Mitsubishi’s Pajero debacle.
Props to Anet´s Spanish team!
GUILD Wars 2
Notice the bolded word there OP?
Finding a good one should be your number one priority, even higher actually than learning to play well.
Random pugging has always been the kitten´s balls in every MMO ever. Hope you finally have learned that lesson now.
Just going to point this out – there are no MMOs with infinite content. There simply can’t be.
Wrong.
There can be and there is, it´s called EVE Online and the content is created by the players.
That is the only way to create lasting content.
The grind that typical Themepark MMO developers are so fond of, is just a pale facsimile of true player created emergent gameplay.
OP has lots of good points and I definitely +1 them all. But I also think he´s just too jaded ATM because he grinded the kittendropings out of the game these last months.
Or maybe approached the game with much too rose tinted glasses.
But I fear he´s not alone in this. The ANet leadership seems to still believe their own hype too, and that´s the main reason for most of the games problems.
Also the “exploiting” and grind isn´t just some stupid hivemind defect that we “the elite smell-the-pixels players” just can´t abide.
It´s actually a healthy and natural reaction(true emergent gameplay) to overly tedious and outright broken or lazily programmed game mechanics.
Or do YOU have a frikken idea how to kill that one bell in the bound-giant fractal without standing in the one spot free of those ridiculous AOEs while the adds constantly spawn.
Polish > Hype
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
The only updates GW2 needs at the moment are bug fixes and Hrouda getting a proper team to polish up your seemingly half finished/broken Dungeon content.
Guild Missions clearly show that you guys have the talent to build cool, aggravating and thus interesting game mechanics.
But your management (guess that includes you too Colin?) has decided it´s wiser to butter up the userbase with flighty new “TV-episodes” that are devoured in a weekend.
This just won´t work.
The game could do so much better than the current meager increase in players, that actually is just a hair width away from going downhill fast.
Polish > Hype.
Edit: and agreed with the above poster, WvW is your key to actual longevity and a fiercely loyal userbase, not constantly rushed “GW2-soap” content.
See EVE Online or DAoC.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
I will never trust a tl;dr again!
Op what have you done?!
Cryptic basically made this same error in Trek Online with their “Episodes”.
They just couldn´t pull it off properly in the allotted time either.
Eventually noticing that it´s maybe more prudent to provide a big chunk of polished content a few times than lot of desperately hammered together sheds.
We´ll see how long it´ll take ANet to “get it”.
Oh, nice. +1 for this thread.
Made basically the same plea in another thread before noticing this one.
