When I LF I LFN (LFnobodey).
Yeah..
Deal with it.
;)
Oh and also no need to kill the runes in your current set.
Just buy yourself another inventory slot and get to work on a new armor-set with different stats and runes.
The Power/Toughness/Vitality karma-store gear from the Orrian Temples is always a good backup set to have.
You´re also believing the hype much too much.
In the usual open world Zergs and at times even in WvW conditions do get capped and unless you provide some arcane ones that part IS useless.
Well though luck for everybody else and you may end up with silver or bronze from time to time. So what.
But this game has much more to offer than the boring Zerg and conditions then become very viable and worthwhile again.
Don´t get too disheartened by the min-maxer – OMG! N00b Zerker>all! – crowd.
Just do your thing and experiment, with different classes even.
To me this diversity outside of the boring Tanker/Healer/DPS gameplay IS the main plus of this game.

Not a big fan of these universal weapons either, but this torch really could´ve used at least one of the features of that torch used in the jumping puzzle of the north-western Dredghaunt Cliffs.
Here´s the proof ANet, we need a daily living story rotation.
Hire 26 more teams.
Yeah, at least now you have more place in the bank to hoard these festival currencies.
Of course ANet could actually wisen up and create a general festival currency like after a couple of years they did in LotRO.
But of course that´s out of the question.
And the diva-nature of this half broken client rears its ugly head again.
Thankfully I can´t report these problems, though frankly I´m not noticing much effects culling during these Zergs either.
Who the hell salvages their blues&greens?
Blues get vendor´ed and greens toilet´ed, thought everybody does that.
Yeah me too, but I also was alone in that instance.
Who cares about some obscure enemy from GW1?
Bandits are perfect and actually the most formidable enemy of all as they can easily infiltrate inside human society.
Traitors have always been an empires true downfall.
And the poor suffering artist gets forgotten again under some bridge.
O tempora! O mores!
Still the Gauntlet would´ve been perfect as the first one of actually meaningful upgrades to the deserted cities.
Oh well. I won´t miss what I have never seen.
However, I also understand that making content recurring does two important things:
1. Keeps us from getting burnt out on the content.
2. Creates an incentive to keep playing year after year.
Oh sure, totally agree.
But there have been numerous threads almost form launch that cities NEED content too.
What I have seen on twitch.tv of the Gauntlet looked very promising and a great way to hone your playing skills and builds. Or just have some solo fun.
In other words the perfect permanent addition and a non-stupid mini-game to boot.
Finally you created an interesting activity in a city and you´re gona kill it.
RECURRING.
As in: Here now. Gone Later. Back Again.
Ok, after rereading Collin´s somewhat wordy statement I finally noticed that little well hidden sentence.
And I personally have no problem with the Pavilion becoming a recurring festival, too big of a farming spot anyway.
Still the Gauntlet would´ve been perfect as the first one of actually meaningful upgrades to the deserted cities.

Finally you created an interesting activity in a city and you´re gona kill it.
I´m actually not even surprised anymore.
Could start arguing about at least leaving the Gauntlet in.
But frankly I stopped caring as I won´t even bother with it(just like I didn´t with the Aether Stuff) due to it´s temporary nature AND increased difficulty.
You seem to really like alienating your playerbase.
Jeez, how about you actually play this game you keep defending like the proverbial damsel in distress, instead of constantly fighting ever imagined slight against it?
Is this another thread in the everlasting Saga of Vayne; Chapter Titles 1-all: ANet can do no wrong?
For many the Manifesto very well was the main basis for choosing this game and there was no reason to disbelieve the main message, like the know it-alls and hindsight smart-a.. in here do.
“Marketingz lol”. /rolls eyes
Thankfully there´s Everquest Next on the horizon that actually has a real chance to deliver on ANet´s window dressing.
Actually today is the next to last day and you did miss permanent content.
Namely the permanent addition of a quartz crystal node to your home instance.
Theoretically you could still get that node, especially if you like jumping puzzles.
But it´s highly unlikely.

OP is absolutely right, something the die hard ANet apologists just can´t allow themselves to admit.
Loot is horrible because ANet is horrible at policing the gold farmers.
Another reason is simply the fact that rich players don´t need to buy Gems for real money anymore.
So they are a net-loss by using up valuable sever resources without paying a dime for it.
At least for the shortsighted bean-counters.
The simple fact that empty servers are even worse than rich players somehow seems to be hard to grasp in an accounting spreadsheet.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
our team took that as a challenge to implement a festival that plays much differently than the others. I think we accomplished that.
The account wallet pretty much makes me want to forgive ANet everything ATM.
Cautiously looking forward to yet another festival mini-games-poolooza.
And ANet stays silent again, squandering yet another chance to respond clearly to a vital problem.
they’re all too busy responding spvp section. In that section you get 3+ devs per day, here its one per week or more
Makes sense.
Asia launch is imminent, which means we need constantly new grindy content and a working sPvP environment.
Incidentally the gameplay this client has the least technical problems with.
You have something against happy?
Yes. :p
Anyhoo, back on topic: By how much are we gona miss the 1 mill mark?
Just curious.
At any rate, I’ll applaud anything that I’m enjoying…why shouldn’t I?
Actually have you stopped applauding anything ANet has done in the last 9 months?
Sorry to drag it down to a personnel level again, but by now this has almost become your main reputation on these fora.
Maybe you should rethink your position, as even ANet´s main devlopers are admitting to misjudging past decisions.
Anet current MO is simply to copy the Asian Themepark-MMOs way of bi-/tri-weekly content upgrades.
They claim they have enough teams to still work on the core game.
The next 6 months will show how this pans out.
But if we all just follow your lead and clap constantly so that the fora stay nice and cumbayaaah, then it won´t help ANet one bit either.
I didn’t like it, and would never tell anyone else about this game either, I think they focus way to much on the Living Story in this game and it will ruin it, WvW is where it is and they ignore it and in the end it will bite them on the kitten …
Repetitive zerg-flip-fest as opposed to new, innovative and fresh gameplay?
I’ll take Living Story, thank you very much.
A new bi-weekly mostly repetitive Themepark ride versus (theoretically) player created emergent gameplay?
I´ll take the later, thnx.
True though, at the moment WvW is a repetitive Zergfest.
And THAT is ANet´s biggest failure.
Am I really seeing a flame war go on in here? That’s pathetic.
Nah, just the usual on this board.
What´s actually sad is that it will likely rain infractions on all, thread gets half deleted and everything will looks right as rain.
And ANet stays silent again, squandering yet another chance to respond clearly to a vital problem.
YEAH!
Nerf hills!
tl;dr Gw2 focuses more on aesthetics than graphics. This video will help you understand the difference, so that next time you wont say something dumb. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oK8UTRgvJU
How about not reinforcing your own lack of intelligence by trying to win an internet argument you clearly lost? And are still loosing, badly I might add.
So then put all setting on low. I guess the left over “aesthetics” are still way too graphically extravagant for you?
Heed your own advice and watch the vid again yourself.
Hint: it´s a package deal.
And when for example the gfx engine is so crappy that the whole game crashes because of memory issues, then aesthetics can go take a break.
So now the two candidates even offer the same minigame?
Those kitten hunger games.
What happened?
If I don´t see a minigame for the rest of the year, I think I actually would smile again.
;)
I’m pretty sure they have 0-1 guys working on the clientside currently, determining by the client updates (none) we have got in the last 6 months.
Yeah this!
Pretty safe bet that they only have a hand full, if that.
After they fixed culling for WvW these guys are very likely still hard at work on the open world version.
Biggest problem with these things is that you can´t just hire new guys and they will instantly write better code.
If they had hired the talent at game launch maybe by now we´ll be able to see some core improvements. Who knows, maybe we even will.
Why is this thread still going on?
Because I too hate/boycott Facebook and am curious by how close the 1 mill mark will be missed.
Though I must admit the flamewar you guys are having is funny too.
Thanks for the heads up, I won´t be bothering with this crap at all then.
Bunch of slackjawed double-tappers around here.
Dodge key will make you a goddman sexual Tyrannosaurus!
Just like me.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Ultimately, my point is that graphics are not the defining feature of guild wars 2. Games that focus on the latest and greatest generally lose something to gain that latest and greatest and generally the benefit of nice graphics don’t last longer than a few weeks.
Uhm. Then your point is ultimately moot, because the graphics and art definitely are a major defining factor of this game.
It´s nice that you´re such a fan of good gameplay, I liked playing Nethack too.
But it´s time to move on and ANet simply needs to get cracking with giving us a proper game engine(GFX is only a part).
Especially with their coming move to maybe their key market.
I went for a Charr battle cat and now I seriously consider wiping her to get a Norn fighting chick instead.
That Charr clipping and how much better armor on Norn chicks looks .. kitten .
Because Colin has a much more winning smile?
Dat chiseled chin!
;)
And, some of the stuff in GW2 always seemed weird to me, I just ignored it for a while.. as far as why I think anything in a fantasy-themed computer game is ‘too weird’, I have no idea.
Excelsior!
That´s cool.
If it´s no fun anymore, no need to bother.
I´m still finding new things in here just by playing a different class and so learning a new gameplay style. Heck, I still havn´t even explored everything on my main.
I´m talking about gameplay skills and different builds.
Though if all that interests you is yet another Themepark ride, then you´re going to roam the Earth for a long time.
GW2´s art style/quality and game-play makes is almost impossible for me to go back to the ancient LotRO engine.
Though if things get too crazy in here, I´ll just have to bite the bullet I guess.
Still, can anyone explain why it is that the Dragon Bash organizers constructed holographic machines that create creatures that try to kill DB celebrators?
LOL, that´s actually a good question!
I dimly remember something about malfunctions, but honestly I´m just guessing.
Yet another point.
Though I think OP is being quite a bit more than obtuse(read the kittenin MAIL!) and when it comes to the gasp LORE the general MMO population couldn’t´t find its hiney with both hands, unless it´s an unskippable QT event.
Still this thread is proving nicely how the storytelling of the so called Living Story has failed.
An NO it´s NOT part of good storytelling to read a frikken Wiki, a kitten guide or any other Webpage buried somewhere on the official Website!
This has to be available in game, and we already have this.
It´s called the Personal Story section!
Here´s a hint ANet, add a TAB for the living story.
Just feed it all those web pages of nice(no sarcasm!) short stories you made till now and make a couple of overviews for the different stories so far.
Again, I´m not dissing ANet for their story content(I quite like it actually), just the unprofessional way they tell it.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Oh so much YES!
But I think it´s a pretty safe bet that ANet will just rework the whole trait system.
They already promised new Elites and other traits as part of the coming “vertical-horizontal” character progression.
@Proxy thnx for the facepalm.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
If you string out the plot lines for too long, players will lose interest.
What I’ve gotten from the ‘Living Story’ so far:
Some power hungry Charr …
A walking Cabbage ..
Pirates showed up …
Then some random merchants came on a flying boatI have no idea what is happening in this game. I could talk for hours about the lore and story of GW1 but this new GW2 ‘story’ is just page 6 tabloid filler.
Not to sound rude, but almost nothing of your plot summarise is actually correct. Of course that by itself might just imply that the story is too stretched for the masses to follow.
His summary may or may not be correct but that’s how it feels like, boring storylines with uninteresting characters doing non interesting things.
And that is another major problem!
I would´ve liked to just log in to the game and read up on the story so far, just to make sure what´s going on.
And I cannot!
Instead I have to hunt through a Wiki Encyclopedia (yeah that helps with fun & immersion) or scour the site for some short stories.
Oh and don´t get me started on the constant special item spam.
At least this time they didn´t offload everything to our bank, but I´m not so sure this trend will continue.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
I actually read “Shatner Statue” and was weirdly stuck between, “Awesome” and “R U stooopid?”.
:)
How the hell did this thread catch back up.
You can thank DoctorOver up there.
Seriously, necro is bad MMKAY?
I´m really stumped why this board lets the breach of this age old forum etiquette slip where it´s otherwise policed like a G8 Meeting.
I use doubletap because why not?
Because when it gets hectic one frequently uses up a lifesaving dodge unintentionally.
I put it on my middle-mouse button, the left hand has enough to do as it is.
The only reason I can see that arenanet developed other cities is to give low level players a place to go. Thats about it.
It may not seem like that to you and lots of other people, but this game does have a bit of a lore background to it.
Not just to show us lots of pretty pixel to break up the farming grind, but to actually give us a reason to, you know, play the game.
At least I think that was the initial plan.
But the abandonment of pretty much any meaningful city content and the headshot the home instance idea suffered on launch, actually enforces your and all the other “story-ignorers” standpoint.
As does ANet´s genius idea to base virtually every temporary content injection of the last 9 months soley in L.A.
You’re all correct, Mai isn’t dead. She might as well be though, after she answers to you-know-who.
Good.
I want her rapier.
NAO!
That´s what she said!
Wait .. what? 0_o
As somebody who actually ran this game on a 32bit DX9 system, I can confirm that this client is an absolute joke.
I run this game on 32bit and DX9 and it runs just fine for pretty much everything except WvW zergs.
Congratu-kitten-lations!
I also would´ve liked to get so lucky.
Please do an announcement over on the tech-support board, so that the legion of “32-bit DX9 only” people frequenting it during the last 8 months can be happy for you too.
talking to npcs instead of looting, no i dont want to talk to the kittening npc i want to pick up mah 13w7z.
Yeah, though the area loot button helps.
What´s really annoying though is the talking during a fight!
NO, event NPC. I don´t want to suddenly start chatting with you in the middle of the kitten fight!
Why do you?!
I know you know that I´m in a fighting stance, and I also know during your event scripted convos I suddenly can´t talk to you anymore either.
So why the heck aren´t these states automatically linked?
