Uhm no.
If you never even reached 80, didn´t even understand the difference between the standard leveling with hearts and actually experiencing the world by finding EVENTS and were already bored, this game still isn´t for you.

And to be honest they pretty much drove it to a stand still throughout these years.

Oh and the personal story is also pretty much broken after the lvl 60 claw island quest, but the main story head honcho has recently at least acknowledged this and a fix can only be weeks away.

What you actually missed was something that superemely annoyed me but may have been right up your ally.
The Living Story.
Google it or search for vids on the UTub. It´s over/on hiatus right now and was the main reason we´re all waiting for an expansion instead of having one for months.

Chris Whiteside to leave Arenanet?

HawkMeister.4758

I hope they give up with the living story.. and make something fun to PLAY , cause there are a lot of series and movies we can watch if we wanted to read or see storys

That’s the thing, the only problem with living story is that it was very dumbed down and one dimentional.

There’s no reason it shoulnd’t have PVP addition aspects, or WvW, or Fractal/dungeon (which it did have first season).

Yes there is a reason.
Man power and time to code, play test, debug, play test while debugging until it´s gorram almost ready, but hellooo deadline. Guess it´s ready.

The teams that were occupied during the whole LS could´ve comfortably cranked out a whole finely fleshed out expansion that would´ve told a perfectly interesting storyline.
JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL GAME DOES.

Or worked on the China launch, or really revamped PvP, or frikken cured cancer for all we know.

You people defending Living Story have bought the cool aid, plain and simple.

The Megaserver structure cunningly disguised how many people like me simple left the game for more interesting game play.

Bottom line is, the only thing this game has to show for after 3(?) years is two/threeish new maps, some ruins and 3 new fractals that the community had to fight tooth and claw to get added instead of outright deleted again like the rest of the content.

BY NOW we should already have the 2nd expansion, not waiting for the first probably till summer at the earliest.

I wish the guy luck but if he was the main inventor and driving force behind LS then good riddance.

I get what OP complains about.

And frankly he´s right, the PvP guys get rewards for actually gaming the way they like, while us PvE people are gated into a VERY narrow game play window.

Granted, some of the PvE dailies are actually a good idea to breathe a bit of life into certain maps like the champion and event completer.
Others are simply time wasters like the low level fractals or fractals in general.

This current system is just too simplistic and needs to be diversified again. Keep the working ones and improve the broken ones like fractals or the gather types.

Bank space is worse than F2P games

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: HawkMeister.4758

HawkMeister.4758

Honestly, as far as F2P monetization goes this is FAR from the worst out there.

YES it is clearly not enough out of the box.
And YES even with a personal Guild it is a chore.

I bought a couple of extra char-slots so I can have an alt of each profession and a 2nd banktab.
I´m using all the alts as mules mainly for accumulating sets of 4 to gamble away at the Mystic Toilet. So far I haven´t upgraded any personal bag slots but the downtime of switching between alts is getting tedious.

I´m not happy with the bankspace, but I´m aware that good part of my problem is how I choose to handle the space. Will probably end up buying a gemcard soon just for this upgrade, or stop feeding the slotmachine.

And BTW for my “Personal Guild” I maybe spent half a gold at the most, back then I could still make one for free.
Just leveling a character(or more) to 80 and working through the personal story will earn you free letters of recommendation that are perfectly spent on your own guild.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: HawkMeister.4758

HawkMeister.4758

As for the trait system, whatever changes Anet has concocted it’ll definitely *not be locked behind the xpac. Think logically, the trait system is a component of the core game. The xpac is meant to expand the game, not lock what the game currently has to offer.*

I’d be more concern about the change to the skill points/masteries issue. We no longer earn skill points at 80 but instead earn mastery points. Skill points would then be earned in more areas of the game.

This. CHILLAX PEEPS!
Although I´m confused how you´ve come to the conclusion post 80 skill point earning will be gone.
I´ve seen nothing alluding to this.

Makes no sense either unless they want to completely abolish XP earning after max level.

Dec. 10th Balance Preview - Updated Nov 6th.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: HawkMeister.4758

HawkMeister.4758

  • How is the change to symbol of Swiftness any good? So many classes move much faster then Guardians. If you want to nerf this, give us an Adept trait, that gives us flat 25% movement spead, like Warriors have it.

In many cases the symbol of swiftness change is actually a buff and not a nerf. Currently it will only apply the initial large portion of swiftness if the target does not currently have any swiftness on them. If they have swiftness on them or after that first pulse it will then add 1 second of swiftness per pulse. This is very awkward and clunky.

The change makes the spell apply a consistent 4 seconds of swiftness per pulse without the strange hidden mechanic. Basically. if you already have swiftness on the people which you using the symbol on or if you take the time to stand in the spell for the full duration then it will just be a buff. =)

Wrong.
NOBODY takes the time to stand around in a swiftness symbol!
The whole point of the kitten thing is to run through it.
Please just leave the symbol alone, it works perfectly as it is right now.

To get a permanent effect it locks any Guardian into a (Staff)2-hand weapon/Boon build. The price we paid to be even remotely able to keep up on roams .
I also routinely casted it infront of my posse so it boosted them too!

This nerf will destroy the main way for Guardians to have fun actually exploring your world on foot, instead of gating from one Champion Zerg to the next.

If I actually would cast this new symbol on roams, then pretty much everybody else that had happened to run through a Mesmer´s swiftness boost earlier will just run away even faster from me.

Simply unacceptable, would be my comment.
And if I´d still play the game I´d actually be outraged, oh well.

HawkMeister.4758

I don’t disagree with what you’re saying. A WvWvW sandbox within the themepark? Sign me up!

There’s a bit of a problem with comparisons with EVE though. CCP happened to be interested in making a space game, and a space game just happens to be much easier to make into a sandbox than, say, a fantasy game like this. I mean, basically, EVE is one of the most heavily instanced MMOs there is (the “boxes”) and all that vast space is totally illusory – they didn’t have to actually make much in the way of assets to realize the illusion apart from a few rocks and space stations.

Not sure why you say heavily instanced as pretty much nothing is really instanced in EVE, it´s the only single shard MMO I know of .
Even the NPC missions that do create what could loosely be called “an instance” can be broken into at any time.
If you mean that each solar system is a singular instance, then this isn´t comparable to standard MMO instances either, as these solar system “maps” are the same for everybody to hang out in.

This trick BTW is the one ANet could´ve used for WvW too.
Instead of giving us 3 tiny separated maps with “static destructibles”(thus negating the very concept), they should´ve made about 30 interconnected maps with destructible player created keeps/towers thus making these “islands in the mists” actually conquerable.
But that would´ve meant a working guild & alliance system and a proper configurable chat, voice-chat even.
Creating 6 Festivals in a year was clearly a bigger priority.

What makes a world "Living"?

in Living World

Posted by: HawkMeister.4758

HawkMeister.4758

I mean, sandboxes, yeah, they have some plus points, but let’s face it, the quality of the “stories” made by the players in EVE Online isn’t terribly entertaining to anyone but the participants themselves, and the big news that bleeds through to the media are usually about “wow, look, scamming in a game lol”. Stories written by people who are good at writing stories are generally more interesting than random kitten that people do to each other.

You´re applying two different meanings to the same expression.

Stories in a Theme Park like GW2 are actually that. A tale told by (more of less) professional writers that is awesome when you first play it.
On the 14th time .. not so much.
Or does anybody still listen to the NPCs in the Dungeon they´re currently grinding?
That´s why the expression “Theme Park” was coined.

Sandboxes have grind too. In the case of EVE, friggen humorously massive huge grind.

The major difference is that the grind itself becomes the story, as in YOUR ACTIONS, the very game-play you´re engaged in becomes actually the tale.

Do I want to play it safe and stay in policed space but only do average profit or take a risk and venture out into more profitable low security space? Lawless even? Now I need to scout the systems ahead, a friend would be handy right now. Or a 2nd account( DING +profit for CCP). ETC…
This is called emergent gameplay and not a single Dev had to get payed to sit down and script any of it.

The only thing barely approaching this in GW2 is WvWvW.
But it actually fails due to the incredibly stale permanence in the pitiful number of unconnected maps. Although the numbers seemingly tell a different tale.
But that is simply because the overwhelming majority of players actually have no idea what a true sandbox feels like. They only notice that after the 50th Zerg up and down the same hills “something isn´t fresh” anymore.

ANet could actually save WvW and make it a true LIVING Sandbox. But I´m afraid they neither have the balls nor the vision for it.
