One word: CHARR!
There´s you´re “modern day” military right in game. You can’t compare the in game engineer rifles to modern machine guns, and their artillery doesn’t have 1/10th the range or firepower our artillery does.
I thought that was the whole point of this silly thread?
And with the fact that Charr manged to create guns with unlimited ammo, that means our army units would be hilariously outclassed by 4 foot armored roaring Bigcats running at them fullspeed (what 30 MPH?) while they fumblingly try to reload.
Also you vastly overestimate the utility of artillery and air superiority(see US defeats in Vietnam or recently Afghanistan) while underestimating a well machined “steam punk” gun. Our modern infantry guns and rifles are barely more advanced from WW1&2 era weapons. And in the German case even criminally inferior.
As for the Pact side, Asura build the MEGA-lasers for the mega dragons.
They would easily adapt if they had to deal with some silly bookah flying machines that fight by throwing away explosive slugs propelled in tubes farting hot gases out the backside.

One word: CHARR!
There´s you´re “modern day” military right in game. And even much more advanced due to all the Asura and Sylvari augmented technologies blended with Charr-tech, resulting in the Pact´s war machines.
So the answer would be, not a chance.
As the Pact version of the Vietnam defeat shows.
Here´s an idea .. how about NO?
NO I don´t want to beta test.
Just run around in there for you bog standard grinding fix and frikken ignore this whole fracking beta.
Dibs on DARK FIGHTER !
What do I win?
Wow this silly thread is still running (and stupidly I´m bumping it).
Less than 10% of people reading this probably even have a true Dx12 hardware compatible GFX card.
Direct X 12 will be used on Fermi (and beyond) Nvidia GPUs, which includes GeForce 400s first released on April 12, 2010, about 5 years ago. So you are saying that only 10% of players are using more “recent” hardware?
TRUE DX12 HARDWARE.
Only the latest 9xx Nvidias and the latest AMD are that.
EVERYTHING else is the typical Micro$hit compatibility marketing speak.
Designed to dupe people like you into believing their old but perfectly OK hardware will benefit from dumping another wad of cash down the Microsoft toilet for yet another useless OS “upgrade”.
Of course I didn´t read the whole thread.
It´s just another hype train based on arguably impressive benchmarks and demos that are run on ridiculously expensive first adopter latest gen. hardware.
N O P E
Got one of every class and two (male&female) of every race except Asura.
Though I very well understand the “avatar” syndrome.
My first and main is human and I regard it as my avatar in Tyria.
But the others are not, that´s kinda the point of RPGs for me. Trying out different roles and what the game offers in “style & aesthetics”.
Cannot wait for the DARK FIGHTER reveal.
..
Dragon Hunter .. seriously guys. :/
Feel the same.
Even lore wise the Norn´s single minded drive to follow Legends fits greatly with the whole Revenant theme.
I just hope we´ll see more than the two Legends already shown.
Really not digging that Demon thing though the Dwarf is somewhat cool.
Drops are crap, pure & simple.
I still have a couple of day long 100% boost and with them it´s crap.
When they run out I´m seriously stumped on what to do as my normal MF is just 60ish.
Probably do more other games again. :/
You all forget that all this is in an early development stage.
So nothing is set in stone.
Actually it is with Anet.
Once it is officially announced on the website they have NEVER changed anything.
So Duckhunter .. I mean DRAGON Hunter (sorry my bad), it is.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGhQ2BDt4VE
Seriously?
Haven´t you played this game at all?
You must´ve noticed all the glowing diamond thingies. ANY mount would have to obviously have a significant movement boost thus make the the teleporters kinda moot.
People feel like not discussing this anymore because by now most have understood that this game doesn´t have an actual world but just a bunch of “virtually connected” maps.
So in that regard mount would fail massively too as you´d hit the kitten map border every couple of seconds or so.
In other words, THIS IS NOT WOW!
Their most symbolic weapon was the shield,
AND their industrial strength bras!
Seriously, this is pretty much the silliest thread on this whole naming affair but it has a certain charm.
Yeah, it´s not blowing me out of my seat but the name isn´t THAT bad either.
I´m totally on the fence here.
Waiting till tomorrow´s gameplay presentation for deciding on how I feel about it.
Nein.

Wow this silly thread is still running (and stupidly I´m bumping it).
Less than 10% of people reading this probably even have a true Dx12 hardware compatible GFX card.
And that´s in the “oh so rich” west.
Everybody knows the majority of Asia is running this game on potatoes and THAT´S why this game WILL NOT be ported to anything better than Dx9.
BTW we also are completely ignoring the masses who´re running this on a similarly potato laptop, right all you Misters Dx12?
PS. please lock this.
I´m sure this argument has already been stated but who can be bothered to read all this stuff. So this thread is probably chasing its own tail already.

To the OP´s question, a loud YES!
Another example from a “stupid fun” builder.
My current Rifle/Hammer Warrior will be dead as I am using 2 points off the path for Warrior´s Sprint and the rest for the actual build.
As WS will share a tier with Rifle, I will have to ditch my Rifle and go Long Bow like everybody else. Welcome to the new build diversity.
My suspicion is that the Devs are still suffering from Guild Wars 1 balancing PTSD, or rather the massive failure at it. The current system is still too flexible and diverse to them so they have to cut it down (aka. “slimline” ) even more.
Not the least because more Elites are probably in the pipeline and they have to be balanced too.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Also drop the loot bags in the bank and open them with one of your 80ies.
I also don´t get this Rifle hate by ANet and the new system basically kills it, as it is paired with Warrior´s Sprint.
And let´s be honest, who will choose the rifle over the almost mandatory Warrior´s Sprint. Unless of course you have a frikken set of traveler runes.
I´m already a bit disappointed with the new system as I´m very happy with my Hammer/Rifle build. But I guess it will die and I will have to join the legion of LB Warriors too.
So much for build diversity.
Also I would suggest just adding a couple of bleeding stacks to rifle´s pierce trait.
You guys have nice ideas but I have a feeling the Devs are currently going out of their minds trying to rebalance the whole frikken game. Your stuff is just too much.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
be tossed like Dwarves are forbidden to.
Outside of the Zerg and the “mandatory ´zerker meta” the original innovative vision of the game still shines bright and is as compelling as it was back then.
I´m also quite taken again with it, just doing dailies and the “zerg light” experience in daily event zones.
But I´m also avoiding the new waste maps like the plague, just like any type of dungeon speedruns.
I bought the game (& quite a few gemcards) right from the start.
Had tons of fun for almost a year and then the living stories sub mediocre gameplay kittenweeweed me off so much that I left.
Now I´m back waiting for the expansion. Of course I wouldn´t pay a sub just for waiting.
Meanwhile the MMO I had invested my time in up to now is rapidly turning into a greedy subscription-mandatory grindfest, contrary to all common sense.
It has a buy2play option too, but if I had “shackled” myself to it through a subscription I would be helplessly at the mercy of every shortsighted Dev decision that happens to fire through their odd brains.
So yeah, death to subscription.
And back to basics – Beginner’s Guide to Mobility
Maybe the most important video for every new GW2 player, also check for keybind vids on Youtube.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Believe me OP, when you´re “working” on the 1000 slayer achievement any good soul running buy and helping you with that kill is appreciated.
I often do it out of politeness.
Am I in the wrong game forum or something? Why is this even a kittening issue in gw2?
It´s not, OP simply had no clue.
Anet needs to bring back the Fire Elemental we had at launch where it spawned and then you saw a large blob of 50 dead players and a couple of live ones running for their lives. Good times!
So much this.
I hated it back then, we struggled hard to get over the kitten bridge into the fiery hellhole beyond and more often than not failed.
But this current incarnation is simply a disgrace.
Indeed, kudos to Anet.
Though to keep Anet in check, the B2P market is pretty terrible atm. Luckily Zenimax screwed up ESO launch enough, that it may take sometime for them to catch up.
Any MMO that has a “premium” tier of service is not really B2P.
Well of course it is.
It´s irrelevant how they started out.
Only thing of importance is “how much” Buy2Play it is, or how relevant a subscription is to the gameplay experience.
Without a sub ESO can be played without restrictions, AFAIK.
Set FPS to 30 and you´re good to go and everything is cooler and quieter.
BTW after loosing my 1st gfx card I would´ve taken a good hard look at this kitten case that is murdering them by not providing proper air flow.
After the 3rd I would´ve started watercooling the gorram things. Jeez.
You’re not the chosen one. You’re the chosen one’s lackey who gets lumbered with all the work
I find it adequately weighed towards the class I currently play.
Definitely not 100% but it´s enough.
OH RIGHT! And it´s also still buggy!
EVERY TIME I´ve thrown 4 medium armor shoulders in I got a light shoulder.
So there´s that too.
Actually it never made sense to make this a group because you´re the kittening chosen one bringing Destinies Edge together, holding Trehearns hand etc.
And suddenly these other bozos show up in your personal frikken story.
I barely made it through, with a horrific group I got harassed by the first actual time in this game.
Only reason I chose to suffer through it was to get the kitten kitten over with.
Never did it again, or pugging in general.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
Have to admit I facepalmed pretty hard when I came back and found they removed the gold penalty for repair.
This “feature” is now completely useless and I hope the guy who came up with this free-repair “brainwave” is no longer with ANet.
Bring back repair cost so the kittens learn to grow up and stop abusing this obvious gameplay loophole.
It helps if you don´t gamble with outright exotics.
I drop only rares and greens in there and it feels much “luckier”.
Already have a complete exotic armor set with an almost complete weapon set for my freshly leveled warrior, including some awesome runes and sigils, just by gambling with greens and rares. \o/
Needs lots of inventory space though, for the “4 of the same” rule.
A personal guild sure helps.
Or simply your hair is already a hat to the game and you´re only allowed ONE hat at a time.
Beats me though why the devs can never figure out to at least add standardized hair to the hat.
NO.
Simply because the Charr already have the perfect and anatomically correct posture for a quadruped that can also walk upright, if need be.
There already was this thread where somebody explained it.
It´s got to do with the connection of the neck to the skull and Charr have it more in the back of the skull, so they can actually freely look around WHILE on four feet.
Our “normal” monkey upright posture is built for freely looking around while on two feet due to the neck connecting under the skull.
Incorporating this in a mere fantasy MMO is GREAT design and all you Charr haters should feel bad. :p
;)
I could care less how much “mandatory” fun a lot of people have.
I logged in thinking I had a bug, as I know this normally IS a bug.
Eventually noticed the hardly noticeable flightcap, due to the heavy sepia and couldn´t bear to continue with this after more than 5 minutes.
As a German I´m not even surprised anymore at the ´merican insensitivity, but having this FORCED on me for the rest of the day is downright kittenarded.
CYA tomorrow.
Celestial is great in PvE.
Not everybody is a dodging god and eventually you will miss that perfect rotation.
While others in their oh so optimal Zerker setup are suddenly sitting on their kittenhineys waving hands in the air, my Guardian is still running around happily applying the suboptimal DPS that looks pretty optimal to me. :p
It´s true though.
If you´re not using the stats then they´re of course no good to you.
Thankfully conditions are on the verge of getting overhauled, so that´s another thing to keep in mind.
Heh, lets not get ahead of ourselves. The final 250 slot guild bank is quite the undertaking.
But getting the first 50 slot stash is very doable and a great investment for your starting laurels IMHO.
Just remember to NEVER stand down from your own guild or all is lost. :O
Do you have your own private guild already?
NO?
WTFRUCRAZY?!?!
Nowadays it cost a gold to create one, but it´s well worth the money.
Then spend laurels on letters of commendation and use them while representing your private guild. Until you have enough to build your guild bank and get quite a nice addition to inventory space.
The solution is easy.
Do all 3.
Effin´ get your kittendroppings together and focus on one class to level at least to 60 then do the next.
With your weird love for Trench coats starting Ranger is pretty much mandatory.
Pick a Norn Ranger so the Trench coats are especially big. :p
Also IMHO the Norn lore is the most suited towards the Ranger class and his pets.
As for Guardian´s flatfootedness, you already guessed it, Staff is the answer.
AND all things that prolong boon duration.
This together with the Retreat shout will help keep your Guardian mobile for a while, you get locked into two-handed weapons though.
Congratulations for getting the proper quad core i5.
It also gave me finally a rock solid game performance where the various AMD Phenoms failed miserably.
All you now need is a (128GB minimum) SSD to run the OS from and GW2, and you won´t recognize your system.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
GW1 was/is a broken mess of a game that the Devs pretty much gave up on balancing.
They as much as admitted this as the reason they threw everything out and started anew in GW2.
Now they broke this one too, as the Zerker Meta and Zerk gameplay clearly shows.
Just open a random thread here and watch people get berated for daring to not play a Zerker equipped toon.
Bah, I´ve seen Revenant gameplay all the time in the dev vids. Glad somebody tried a current profession.
Pity they didn´t seem to include the specializations in this stress test. Nor any new maps either.
Still watching it though.
BTW the background score is awesome already.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
To me no dungeon means the expansion is 5$ less worth than the 40$ that seems to be the end price rumor.
Thus if the expansion costs more than 35 bucks I won´t buy it.
It´s that simple.
And as the expansion is the main reason I came back, this will free up some of my time for another game.
It took them 2 years to get this engine running properly and assure maximum compatibility with a wide variety of computers due to the Dx9 engine.
Your super-duper card will continue to be as useless as all “next gen” graphics cards are before actual games are released for it.
Thus a big waste of money. Congrats.
Do you think Anet is hiding something big
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: HawkMeister.4758
Nope, don´t think so.
I´m almost sure that all these “awesome” VR riggs will end up in the corner after about a month, due to the splitting headaches from staring for hours at screens mounted 2 inches from your eyeballs.
Only solution I would actually give a chance is Jeri Ellsworth & Rick Johnson´s castAR , due to the actually natural viewing experience.
But hardly anybody ever heard of them.
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
So those people saying the living world exists here are stupid? Okay then.
Yup.
http://i.imgur.com/QZFq2vj.webm
Okay.
ESO is NOT for the average GW2 player.
Plain & simple.
The art style is gothic/realistic, “mature” if you will, while GW2 is pretty much the exact opposite ( childish? :p ).
The PvE is more old fashioned thus structured and takes place INSIDE the actual world. Unlike GW2 chaotic and disjointed FAUX “living world”.
Come on, guys.
Nobody can be that stupid believing this living world crap after actually leveling in a map that has the event daily running.
And I hope nobody here seriously tries to argue with the failed Living Story as an example for a good “living world”.
I´m not arguing about the PvP part. Haven´t tried it in both games much
In GW2 the WuwWuw bored me to tears after a week, while I left ESO too early to get a good handle on it. But ESO at least had an actual PvP MAP instead of GW2´s Zerg racetracks. I could care less about eSports ( actually no I can´t ).
(edited by HawkMeister.4758)
I played ESO before and during the very botched launch.
Even though the bugs were horrible I really liked it. What sold me was an actual working implementation of a LIVING STORY!
Depending on your choice during a certain part of your beginning story, quite a few characters get killed of AND it actually changes the map permanently for YOU ( instanced maps, how do they work, eh ANet? ).
But then they began “adapting” vital parts of the starting experience, because the crybabies couldn´t cope with being oh so restricted. And the whole thing basically never made sense after.
I see they still didn´t fix that part.
What made me lapse my sub was the HORRIBLE inventory system. I was basically forced into creating mules. On top of that the log/relog “minigame” took about 10x as long as it does in GW2.
Also I wasn´t impressed AT ALL by the idea that after finishing your faction you had to grind through the areas of the other 2 factions, but simply at a higher level.
As an altoholic I already did that, but would have to repeat it over and over again for every different toon.
Thus I never really bothered with the veteran endgame.
The ONLY thing really superior is the WuwWuw part of ESO. It´s an awesomely humongous continuous map that actually feels like war, including PvE where you can get jumped by the enemy.
Compared to the tiny Zerg racetracks GW2 offers.
These gimmicky future sand-maps aren´t impressing me much either.
Never bothered with guilds or grouping, so didn´t experience the borked phasing either.
Also I won´t go back to ESO until the console launch.
I payed enough for beta testing the game at launch, and the time now leading up to it looks suspiciously like yet another chance for Zenimax to test their latest clever ideas on our PC gamer backs.
HOLY WORDWALL BATMAN! O_o
tl;dr ESO is not that bad, inventory is real bad, WvW is better, wait till console launch.
