Sudden graphical slowdown

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

OK thanks PaxTheGreatOne for that clue to what might be causing this.

Before all this happened, my computer had been having start up problems, it’s like explorer.exe is constantly hanging and restarting. I tried to find out what might be causing the problem, my initial guess was that it was the audio driver. The problem went away eventually, I don’t know exactly what I did that worked.

Now, in trying to solve this FPS drop problem, I tried to reinstall the graphics driver. And the explorer.exe hanging/restarting problem came back again. I think it’s because of the Intel graphics driver that’s installed alongside the nVidia graphics driver (it apparently installed some audio driver as well). I have uninstalled it. Now I don’t know if that will solve this FPS drop, Lion’s Arch is still around 12-30 fps. It wasn’t like this before, or maybe I’m wrong. Could anyone with a similar rig (i7-3770k, GTX680) share their fps performance in Lion’s Arch?

HaxTester.9816

So, I can’t go into much detail on things quite yet, but I just wanted to reassure you folks that we’re actively discussing a number of issues that are affecting balance in PvP – including, but not limited to elementalist sustain/damage. Per the usual, we’ll be talking to you folks about the changes once we’ve finalized them.

Sorry I haven’t been that active on the forums lately – we’ve been pretty busy around the office.

“Thanks, Grouch. You’re the worst!”

Edit: Also, just because this is an elementalist thread doesn’t mean we’re only looking at elementalist, and it also doesn’t mean we’re only looking at doing nerfs.

Do you guys keep a record of what are people using? Data is much better than whiny brats’ demands. Use your database, or if you currently don’t have data, work on a way to collect data.

Things you could collect for analysis/to help in your decision making:

*Check the win percentage of each class
*Each time a team wins or loses, record what the traits the players are using
*Record the number of times a trait is used by a winning/losing player
*Record the number of times an amulet is used by a losing/winning player
*You could even record combat data, if storage space ain’t a problem

Basically, if a player wins, each trait that the player used will tick by 1 in the trait’s “win counter”, and the same goes for when a player loses, the “lose counter” for a trait will tick by 1. This goes for all the traits of all the players in both teams of the match.

Anyone else experiencing a sudden graphical slowdown while playing the game lately? It wasn’t like this before, I think they changed something in the graphics code (in time for the F2P release), and that change is causing this. I could play the game fine on auto-detect settings before, with anti-aliasing disabled and the character models set to lowest. Now, my client randomly drops to single digit frames per second. Even at the lowest settings, EVEN WHILE LOOKING AT THE GROUND, there’s something messing up with the frame rate that causes the frame rate to drop by 12 FPS (see second pic).

Gear is the biggest thing. Remebering to switch out each piece and then switch back.

They could make two separate systems. One is the build templates, and the other is the gear sets. Gear sets is the improved version of weapon sets in Guild Wars 1, where you can set certain weapons in your inventory to one of four keybindings. For example, you can have a two-handed scythe as your first weapon set, and a sword and shield as your second weapon set. In gear sets, not only can you swap weapons, you can swap other armor and trinkets as well. To reduce abuse, there could be a “cast time” of sorts, when changing from one gear set to another. You have to complete this cast time in order to change to your desired gears, ie. do not get attacked while changing, stay out of combat, etc.

Expansion 2? It will be a feature in the next expansion and it will be announced on stage in PAX 2017!!!!! OK that maybe too long, how about September 2016 feature pack? Yeah we need feature packs to be grand, so we need to hold up as much “features” as we can so that the feature pack would really look ‘feature packed’, ‘ya know what I’m saying! -.- ETA is 1 year from now, come on anet, give us templates by the next kittening feature pack, or much better, earlier than that. Save your game anet, in League of Legends and Defense of the Ancients and Counter Strike and Team Fortress 2 and so many other games, you could customize your load out based on your team and the other team. Why can’t we have an easy, flexible system in PvP to customize ourselves accordingly at the start of the team battle.

Town Clothes were their original idea for outfits, an attire you could only wear for fun. In GW1, outfits can’t be enabled in combat zones. But now they allow outfits in combat zones AND in combat. I checked the CPU use, the client’s not eating a lot of resources, checked the GPU temp, under normal temps, run a Just Cause 2 benchmark test, it runs normally. I’ve also noticed that while in Lion’s Arch, my FPS is around 20-30, when before it was around 40-50. I have an nVidia GTX 680 and an Intel i7-3770k rig. My graphics settings are set at Best Appearance and I set the Character Model Limit to highest, but I turned off Antialiasing and the Character Model Quality is on Lowest. Change color/graphics of target ping on map

As a side note, I’ve been wanting to ask this, but I keep forgetting to post this (I might repost it to remind the devs). Could we have more options with pinging in the minimap. Such as a blinking shield or sword icon on the map (maybe with a number to denote the player who pinged it). Since you are about to implement leagues in PvP which was already in other games for a long time, when are you going to implement more useful map pings, which other games have already been implementing for years. Maybe expansion 2?

Change color/graphics of target ping on map

in PvP

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

Please change the color of the target ping on the map, or the graphics used in the ping, or just let us disable it altogether if we want to. Often players use pings to denote a possible danger in the map (such as a point being decapped by an enemy) or just to call attention to the minimap in general. Not all players are creatures evolved to only have tunnel vision, and some do see the map as a whole. Believe it or not, some don’t just think about what’s happening currently on a node, but what could happen on the whole map in the near future as the battle progresses. This impostor red ping is just attention grabbing, and it just leaves you wondering what the other players were trying to say, when it was just another player spamming the target button. It could be useful in PvE, zZzzzZZZzzzzZ, woops pardon me, I fell asleep because I was so unimpressed, as I was saying it’s just a clutter in the UI in PvP mode. Some people who don’t use team tactics in PvP might find it amusing though. Ooohh mini-map special effects! What next fireworks and explosions on the minimap?

Karma exchange system use demand and supply

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

As more people buy faction specific items, the prices quickly soar up. The only way to bring it down is to support that faction. You can buy faction currency when it is still low and save it, so in future updates, you can exchange it for better goods and buffs (just like stockpiling gems early in the game). Take note this is a global exchange rate, not just a map wide exchange rate, but an exchange rate that affects all worlds, in all maps, just like GW1 factions.

Maybe this is an alternative to karma point use? ^^;;

It’s like countries having multiple exchange rates. The more you buy from one faction, the lesser it is for the other factions (supporting one faction will also affect other factions). Also some incentive to buy karma boosters. ^^;; It will decrease over time though, unlike gems to gold.

HaxTester.9816

I have this idea where in you can exchange karma points for faction currencies, which you can then use to buy faction specific items or boosts. This karma to faction currency exchange will use the gems to gold system, where the more people exchange karma, the higher it is needed to exchange for a faction currency over time. That solves the over inflation of karma points, although you could tone it down a little. If not this, maybe you could track the supply and demand of faction specific items, and adjust the faction currency price accordingly, like in Guild Wars 1 where runes and materials change prices depending on demand of players.

Randomize Finishers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

Sometimes I wonder if the devs even play their own game. It’s like they’re just factory workers. Are you factory workers? You kittening work in the entertainment business, make us feel good, make us addicted. If you want more money, then think both as a player and as a businessman, that’s how you would maximize profits from your efforts. Let me quote OP and repeat the message:

Also incentive for getting a new one when you already have a cool one and you can only use one at a time?

So my idea was maybe instead of activating a finisher you can activate multiple finishers and they would cycle/randomize through the selected few each time you spike an opponent.

This I think would lead people to buy more finishers and there’s also a little surprise each time you spike someone, you never know which it will be ^^ What do you think?

edit: as I dug up on the game update history, you guys finally put a randomize option for the finishers on the February 2015 update (good job!). But I still think it needs more tweaking (it’s like a half-hearted effort at something). Here’s my mock up of the finisher UI improvement

What's up with the Lvl 1 characters?

in PvP

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

Maybe they should show PvP experience level instead of PvE experience level? There’s a misconception, or rather ‘instinctive presumption’, that players using level 1 or 2 characters are newbies to PvP. It’s misleading, but more experienced players know to ignore the character level they see besides the name and class. Some though are wary if a player is really new, so if they see a level 1 player, they check by adding them to their friends list, then look at their AP. Why not show PvP level instead of PvE level? Are you afraid that higher leveled players would have prejudices over lower leveled players? But ain’t that what’s already happening in PvE? “AC p1 p3 80s only”. “AC 123 all welcome”. “AC p2 exp zerk”. Why use a PvE indicator in a PvP environment? Maybe PvE higher levels mean more knowledge of the class right? Well, that’s not correct logic entirely, since there are a lot of things different from PvE and PvP. DUNGEON MASTER != PVP MASTER.

Did they remove it because it’s too “confusing” for people? I think it’s an impressive sideshow demonstrating the uniqueness and creativity of the event and world system of GW2 to new players. It was strategically placed in the starter areas of the game, ain’t I right? I was watching sodapoppin the other day, and I was thinking, sodapoppin (and his viewers) would have been impressed with the quest system of GW2, if only anet kept the original quest code for the starter quests near the entrance of Divinity’s Reach. What was shown was a dumbed down version of the initial quest. First impressions last as they say. Big turn off is that they would feel, “oh, this is just another MMORPG like all the others”.

What do you guys think of making minor traits customizable as well? This is so that some of the traits that were removed could make a comeback (as an optional minor trait), and offer some flexibility in designing the traits, so that you could move/distribute traits around a lot more and also because a lot of the traits have became baseline or compacted. Each trait line would be divided into three categories (adept, master, and grandmaster), and each category would have a minor and major trait selection (the adept minor trait is the only one unselectable).

A personal story question

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

Living story is more like GW1 Beyond technically HoT is an expansion like EOTN not a whole campaign like Factions or NF.

That’s were the revenant story comes in. I’m not sure if revenant characters will still use the vanilla PS chapters, but my hunch is they will get a separate story line, and at one point meet up with the rest of the B-b-b-b-biconics. Then with that, it would become a stand-alone campaign, just like when starting out as dervishes in Nightfall, or playing Nightfall with a character from Prophecies. I’m not sure how they will do this, since if revs will have a separate story line, then they wouldn’t have been pact commanders, unless revs are all living undead, pulled from the Mists to live again. Holy kitten, that would be interesting to see. Pact commanders who died are rallied back to the living world by Rytlock. That’s some hax you got there Rytlock, but I guess it can still be possible, since Magdaer created the everlasting ghosts of ascalon. Revs are actually undead, vampires perhaps? Nah. A personal story question

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

I would compare GW2 LS1+LS2 to the GW1 expansion Eye of the North. GW2 Personal Story chapters and Heart of Thorns would be the stand alone campaigns. Just like in GW1, where you can play Prophecies, Factions or Nightfall without touching any EotN content, you can play both GW2 vanilla and HoT without purchasing LS1 and LS2. The main difference is the stories of LS1 and LS2 tie closely to the HoT campaign. Anet’s in a bind here, LS was meant to provide content interim expansions. I’m not sure if they planned LS to be replayable at all, since LS1 content can’t be replayed at the moment, meaning they probably weren’t planning on selling LS as episode packs in the first place. I’m not really a PvE guy, I love the lore, but PvE stuff in-game generally gets me sleepy. I bought this game mainly for WvW and for my love of GW1 PvP, but LS really hooked me into the PvE aspect of the game. Maybe they could do the same with PvP/WvW, do something to attract people to get hooked into team based and massive player battles.
