I kinda agree with you guys, with the lack of immediate response, it kinda feels like we are being ignored and frustrating sometimes. We are paying customers after all (and potential buyers of gems as well). Maybe some note from our mediators that they have forwarded concerns to the devs would be nice (although it’s not a promise they will do the bidding of thread posters). But judging from this “visual nerfs” thread, they do listen to the community. The problem with too much visual effects had been brought up several times in the forums, and here we are, changes to the visual effects.

This was reported 3 or 4 days ago, what do you expect, instant results? Pay them 1 million dollars so they can hire several programmers and animators to do the job in one day.

This may be a work in progress. They may be toning down the kittening annoying, screen cluttering visual effects and deploying them bit by bit. They may also be working on an option for certain players to retain the old visual effects.

HUGE Dishonor System Issue

in PvP

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

I did some tests. I simulated being disconnected and reconnected again. I had to close and reopen the client since the client hangs to a black screen. It took me more than 60 seconds to get back into the game (about 62 to 65 seconds). I have an PC with an Intel i7-3770k and NVidia GTX 680, but the thing that made the reconnection longer was my connection speed. My average latency is around 250 ms. Another problem I think is it loads me to the Heart of the Mists map first, then to the PvP map itself. Sixty seconds is cutting it too close. Maybe increase the timer to 90 seconds, or even 120 seconds. I don’t agree with a 180 second timer though, but if you were able to reconnect, the dishonor time length should be based on whether the team won, and how many points the player contributed to the game. And also please revamp your point system, give points to those who defend points, please.

Arenanet's failing ESports ideologies.

HaxTester.9816

Since we’re talking about “e-sports”, I’d like to share this interview with Arenanet’s founder Mike O’Brien way back in 2007.

http://www.destructoid.com/destructoid-interview-arenanet-s-co-founder-mike-o-brien-creator-of-guild-wars-34058.phtml

We switched gears a bit and spoke about Guild Wars and its competitive nature. Mike stated “Guild Wars, at its most competitive level, is an e-sport.” He went on to describe the truth behind this statement by referencing the two world championships. However, he explained that Guild Wars was also intended for more casual play, as well.

Mike then talked about the challenges this caused in the original Guild Wars when pure PvP players didn’t want to touch the roleplaying portion of the game and vice versa; “We had these two extremes and no way to bridge the gap. The fact we tried to do this hurt us more than it helped, we think.” I asked how things will change in Guild Wars 2 and he said “… we’ve divded the competition into two different aspects; ‘world PvP’ and ‘e-sport PvP.’” “In Guild Wars 2, we’ve gotten rid of a lot of the complexity in the e-sport PVP. You will have access to every skill this time.” This means that PvP players no longer need to unlock skills to use them on their PvP character.

ferry, not taxi

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

Ferry is bringing characters to a different map inaccessible to other players. Taxi is bringing players to the same instance of the current map, presumably they can access it already or can go to it on their own.

An example of ferry in Guild Wars 2 is when you haven’t explored the whole map, but one player of your party enters a dungeon. A prompt then appears and you could enter the dungeon even though you haven’t explored the area where the dungeon is located.

Should other cities get the LA treatment?

HaxTester.9816

I was anticipating a dragon attack in the chasm where the Crown Pavilion is right now in Divinity’s Reach. Actually, not just DR, but also in other cities as well.

  • Black Citadel will be a huge magic cannon, sort of like the Death Star in Star Wars.
  • We will fight a dragon in the middle of Hoelbrak (that empty space in the middle of the city is begging for a dragon rampage). The question on how to break Jormag’s tooth is the answer to killing dragons. Break the tooth, you’ve found an effective way to kill a dragon. My theory is since dragons are made of magic, something that destroys magic would be effective against them as well. But how can you destroy magic, it’s like destroying reality itself?
  • Rata Sum will transform into a gigantic golem, a golem as big as a city. That was what the Arcane Council’s secret project all along. Their greatest weapon against the dragons, Rata Sum the ultimate golem.

Can we have a PvP reward track that would allow us to gain Hero Points?

Can we have a PVP version of the Guild Hall arena, similar to how we could make private PvP rooms? I know it’s kinda redundant, but PvP rooms have a limit of 10 people per side. In GW1, GvG was an 8v8 match. GW2 introduced massive battles, the perception of GvG is no longer about squad vs squad.

HaxTester.9816

I agree. Sort of like a “shared instance”, similar to the one at the beginning of Heart of Thorns story where a shared instance of Silverwastes was the staging area. A shared instance is a instanced portion of a map but many people are able to enter it via a trigger.

I’m not sure if the Elder Dragons can be killed. The Jotuns, Dwarves, Norn, Mursaat and Seers tried to kill the Elder Dragons before, but I think that even though we could destroy its physical form, its spirit still lingers, and in time, in thousands of years, its physical form will reform and its power will grow back. Magister Sieran found a way to stop dragon corruption, and that is to contain it in another dimension. This alludes to a way on how to completely “kill a dragon”, that is by banishing it to another dimension, just like what the “gods” did to Abaddon when they imprisoned him in the Realm of Torment.

What they did with Taimi is a bit too much, just a very little bit. I like her very much, but could you please stop pointing out she is disabled, and start making her do awesome stuff, or rather, making awesome stuff.

I have a crush on Marjorie, and some lust for Kasmeer, and the idea of them doing it in bed makes me even more… nvm. But how come we didn’t see the investigator in Marjorie in the last expansion? I’ve always considered Marjorie to be the “executive officer” of the group, someone who the “Pact Commander” character asks for advice.

Rox, missing her quips. Brahm, not much about him though. Canach is OK too, but just like Taimi, don’t go overboard with his characterization. His “edginess” can get old and annoying if done too much.

Trahearne might make a comeback of sorts, but in the form of clones. I’ve suggested in another thread, I’ll just repeat it again. They could make multiple Trahearnes with various personalities. One Trahearne clone might be cowardly and treacherous, another brash and braggart, while another calm and smart. We could even have a crazy and random Trahearne or an effeminate one who prefers to call herself Trahearnea. XD

HaxTester.9816

@Avariz, actually they did a different approach with the HoT story. In the PS, you have multiple character’s story converging to a point, and then diverging again, presumably these characters formed teams to tackle different problems. It’s like in Lord of the Rings where the characters converge in Rivendell, but you could read/watch what happened to the characters like Boromir or Gimli before they reached Rivendell. And from Rivendell, they diverge again into three separate paths. In Heart of Thorns, one of these divergences happen at the last battle. I don’t know what happened to the other characters in the Personal Stories, but canon-wise, there seems to be only one “Pact Commander”, that is Marjory and company refer to one person/character when they say “boss”. I don’t know if you are alone all the time or if you are being followed by the troupe of Personal Story characters, but the way I see it is that the “Pact Commander” character is the one that went deep into the dragon’s stronghold, and the other characters from the Personal Story remained outside along with the remaining Pact soldiers and provided a diversion of sorts for the Pact Commander character. The cheer you are looking for comes from your other players, that is if they did cheered after defeating the Mouth of Mordy (lol). If you played in the PoV of the Pact Commander character, then you were probably escaping with your lives while the others were cheering outside. Tl&dr is you can finish the game from the PoV of the Pact Commander character OR the PoV of the other Personal Story characters.

Several things they could use as material for future content:

-specialization backgrounds and the involvement of DE 2.0 with these specializations.

-Glint’s egg and the fate of the Sylvari. (I’m actually expecting Mordremoth to be reborn from the egg as a Sylvari child)

-Trahearne clones. Mordremoth might have kept the Trahearne clones as a back up plan, seeing its mind was immediately transferred to Trahearne upon it’s defeat. Mordy’s power might have been distributed to these clones. We could have multiple Trahearnes with various personalities. One might be cowardly and treacherous, another brash and braggart, while another calm and smart. We could even have a crazy and random Trahearne or an effeminate one who prefers to call herself Trahearnea.

If you would change one of the stances and the stance you are going to change to has racial utilities, it will deselect them by default or return to the default utility configuration.

I bound mine to A and D.

Just turn the normal camera back on for jumping puzzles.

I think action camera mode is perfect for jumping puzzles as well, no need to hold down the right mouse button and you can have better, faster camera adjustments than normal camera mode, well suited for fun, hectic jumping puzzles like Clocktower and Winter Wonderland.

I was expecting the new specializations to be story unlocks. For instance, twitch.tv streamer AuroraPeachy also thought of a backstory for the Scrapper, where Taimi’s Scruffy is destroyed or damaged, so Taimi had to make something that would help her navigate the jungle, which would be an upgraded Scruffy, ie. gyro Scruffy. If you are an engineer, then Taimi will teach you to become a scrapper or inspire you to be one. My addition to this, maybe the Scrappers of the Black Citadel came to help the Pact and the Pact Commander/s. Maybe they found Taimi in the jungle injured and helped her build Scruffy version 2. This would highlight the Scrappers and their relentlessness. One great mage once said, you can build a perfect machine from imperfect parts. ^^;;;

Doing lich fights, I realized several things:

1. The more you spend time on certain things, the better you become.
2. The way to improve yourself is to put pressure on yourself. You won’t improve if the fight is easy and you are not striving to survive and/or win.
3. Pride is a great motivator to improve. The good pride, like proving something good, not thinking you are already great. Be proud, but be humble as well.

It was for the best of the community. It was a problem in the Marionette event, and became more apparent in the Crown Pavilion event in 2014. I think in the CP event, there’s a map instance for each world, and you had to wait for a long time for one of the maps to fill up. After that it’s a frenzy to get in that map. Now it’s far more easier to fill up maps and do events, which is great. Just look at Silverwastes and the new HoT maps.

Maybe anet could introduce a “buy an overflow” system, where you could reserve a map for your guild members, then after 15 minutes it becomes an open map once again.

Legendary Lich in Mad King's Maze

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

HaxTester.9816

There are two methods I’ve seen on how to deal with him. You can solo him if you want by the way, but you need some experience dealing with him, so prepare to die alot before soloing him.

The traditional way of killing lich is stacking in one corner or staying in the hut, and then pulling lich to melee range. This concentrates all the summoned skeletons so the necros and mesmers could boon strip them, including the lich. After boon stripping, the zerg cleaves down the skeletons and continue on attacking lich.

The range method is for those with few people with not enough boon strippers, or those who want to solo lich the lazy way. There’s a rock near lich where you can climb onto, then range the kitten out of lich from there. Be warned though, skeletons will still be summoned if you get hit by his summoning attack, so block if possible whenever you see his nearby area get cloudy. If doing range way, be sure not to summon any minions, turrets, and clones, as well as to stow your pets, as lich summons a skeleton for each of your own summons.

Since the old borderlands will be replaced, what if they make them as “alliance maps”, similar to the “alliance” we have in EotM. Maybe give it a try for a week or two? You never know if you found a winning formula until you’ve tested it. Don’t mistake “theories” with bias and opinions. Like for instance, your business arenanet. Who would have thought MMORPGs would become so popular? Heck even kids as young as 8 years old are playing MMORPGs nowadays. Yeah I know, problems may arise with experimentation, but you learn and evolve and improve. Golem week is a good try at having “tanks” in battle. I think it’s an interesting idea. Maybe work on it more, maybe add another golem type? Maybe make more WvW mastery lines for these new golem types. Maybe make a real “siege golem”, such that you have a casting time to deploy and undeploy the golem, and the golem is rooted while attacking, but it would deal massive damage. Think of it as the artillery type golem. In Starcraft, we have what we call a moving siege line, that is Siege Tanks alternately go in siege mode and push the line of battle. Maybe if we have newer types of golems, it would open up new tactics in WvW. Maybe take inspiration in RTS games when it comes to WvW additions and improvements?

UI Customization and Targeting UI

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Can you please bring back the UI customization of GW1? Tbh, I’d like the conditions and boon area to be bigger, or rather, the condition icons to be bigger. Can you separate conditions and boons, like in Guild Wars 1, where you can separate the negative (hex and conditions) and positive effects (enchantments, stances, etc)?

And also, could you please fix the targeting UI such that it doesn’t interfere with ground targeting? What I mean is, if you are ground targeting a skill and you unintentionally move the cursor near the targeting UI, your ground targeting suddenly jumps to your location. It’s like you made the UI part of the world, that’s why it’s interfering with ground targeting and the cursor. Could you please make the targeting UI behave differently, such that it functions more like an overlay?

Below is a video of what I’m talking about regarding the targeting UI interfering with ground targeting. It’s a problem I’ve noticed for quite some time already, I remember I often encounter this problem in PvP, in Legacy of Foefire while ground targeting skills on the ledges in the graveyard area.

They do exist though, hackers who use teleport hacks to harvest mining and lumber nodes, but commonly they would appear underground, under the node itself. I was doing a harvest run in Fireheart Rise, and while chopping for hard wood, one guy appeared under the node and started harvesting, and then suddenly disappeared after he finished. I quickly tried to record it, but unfortunately it too late. I’m not sure if the GMs (if there are any for this game, aside from forum mods, community liaisons, and customer service representatives) monitor these harvest hackers, since I saw it happen a few months ago, meaning it’s been happening for a long time already and who knows how many other harvest hackers are out there.

Woops excuse me, I lost myself there, well to be honest, while turret engineers exploited the weaknesses of the meta back then, I exploited the popularity of the turret engineers myself, ie. I used an anti bunker turret engi build.

Warglaives are swords not daggers. Also antimage/demonhunter (who commonly uses this weapon, you based this off Warcraft right?) is more like a mesmer rather than dagger wielding thief. In fact, Guild Wars 1 mesmers feel alot like demonhunter/anti-mage if they use certain builds (eg. Energy Surge build).

What programs do you have installed? Do you have a keylogger/PC monitoring software installed? I once had a commercial keylogger installed in my PC before, for personal historical archival, I mean it’s nice that I could look at the logs and see what I was doing 10 years ago. But somehow, I have this hunch that there’s a backdoor in the program itself, and it maybe sending logs secretly to the another server. I haven’t installed it again.

Maybe check for malware keyloggers as well. Did you install a pirated application? Check for viruses also.

And yeah, can we have some sort of “outbox” as well.

Ain’t light armored classes farming for mats as well, just as heavy and medium armored classes? Ain’t they working hard for it as well? So why does light armored classes have to do more work than the other classes? According to this survey (https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3cwpz7/the_survey_is_now_over_here_are_the_results/), atleast one character in a race and gender, 25822 characters were light armored classes, 24230 characters were medium armored classes, and 20250 characters were heavy armored classes. A 36.7/34.5/28.8 distribution. Yet light armored classes have to collect more materials and pay more because what? Did the light armored classes petition an extra difficulty for creating ascended armor? I’M AFRAID OF WHAT THEY WILL THINK OFF IN GUILD WARS 3.
