What were the Mordrem pre-corruption?

I for one would like to see the sentient races being infected by parasitic spores that overtake the host’s body when severely weakened. It brings horror and dire to the atmosphere of the game. Not only are the Sylvari in danger of failing to resist Mordremoth’s whispers, other people are also in danger of becoming servant abominations of Mordremoth themselves.

New Player seeking guidance

in PvP

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

Welcome to GW2. What are you particularly confused about?

Unlike PvP in other MMORPGs, the PvP in the GW series tries to level the playing field no matter what your current level or gear is on PvE/WvW. So all players have level 80 stats and level 80 exotic quality gear. PvP in GW tries to put more emphasis on your skill and how you play, rather than the quality of your gear being the basis of your chance of success.

I made a simple info image to cover the very basics of PvP. As you play more, you will realize some things about the game, about how to play, some good tactics to use, etc. We’ve all been there, we were all noobs once.

The ones you can buy with 75 fractal relics from the golem vendor are good enough. Just buy food if you really want the stat boost. This is what arenanet should clear up on their next update for the fractals. I was under the impression I had to buy these overpriced infusions to be able to play fractals above level 10. Those things are more of an extravagance, rather than a necessity. But if you really have the gold, why not? I mean, if you have 8,000 gold, surely you can buy that ~65 gold per infusion FOR A kittenING +5 POWER INCREASE kittenING BULLkitten!

Artificial scarcity.

Unrelated to Black Lion store updates, but this phrase reminded me of something that’s bothering me about you guys. If anet is holding back on updates on the game in general, so that they could show it one of these days as “progress”, then beware, your customers may lose patience and may try out other games when they tire of waiting for your “updates”. It’s like a scam kickstarter project, the ones who will show updates once every two months or so, and the project goes on and on, and the backers are starting to wonder when it will finally finish, then the developers will “give in” to the demands, and they will release a kittenty product, and then they will blame the backers because they were impatient with the 3 year project. Deliver the goods anet. We can wait, as in a fine dining restaurant, we can wait, reserve for months if you will, but be sure the food you are serving us is worth the wait (I know you are not serving food, it’s just an analogy -.-).

Why level after 80?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

HaxTester.9816

In GW1 that’s one way of getting skill points. You need skill points to buy Skills (1 point) and Elite Skills (3 points). I guess this was a carry over from GW1. I think it’s nice you could still get something beyond 80, although I prefer that I could choose between a spirit shard or a battle manual (made up item for leveling up alternate characters of the same profession).

Kill off all characters from before LS1 & LS2

So the current characters could shine.

Make it so we could kill them ourselves one by one, and make them as horrible and hideous looking as possible. A parasitic fungi created by Mordremoth has infected survivors, and once this fungi develops inside the body, it will make the victim lose his mind and become a mindless servant of Mordremoth. They become like the Infected in the game The Last of Us, but now they serve a master. We could even select which one to finish off first, then one of the fabulous Biconics will get an upgrade (elite specialization). Or maybe not, you could even unceremoniously kill them off.

Norn bias against bunker builds

in Lore

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

@Odyssey, but don’t bears chase down their prey as well? Yeah they’re omnivores so they forage for berries as much as they scavenge for dead animals (naturally died or kills of other wild animals), and yeah they do scour for food in trash bins as well, so they are survivalists. But I feel like they are more of the offensive type because of their aggressive nature against other animals.

@Kalavier, wow, thanks for that info. You were right, there’s also other Spirits of the Wild other than the main ones. I was thinking those four were the only Spirits of the Wild (plus Owl who got destroyed while the Norn where escaping, and Minotaur as well as a minor spirit you encounter in the game). I forgot there were others with Owl who were destroyed. But I didn’t know about the other’s existence (Hare, Otter, Gorilla, Griffon, Wurm, etc).

Why isn’t there a patron Spirit of the Wild for those using bunker builds. I mean, there’s Snow Leopard for tricky stealthy burst builds, then there’s Wolf and Bear for bruiser and sustain builds, and finally there’s Raven for sneaky sticky condi builds, but why isn’t there a Spirit of the Wild for bunker builds. This is travesty. This is discrimination againt a good portion of the population. Because of this, I make a proposition to the Keepers of the Mists (aka writers of Guild Wars 2) to include another Spirit of the Wild. Please include in the game the Spirit of the Tortoise.

Restoration of Orr[[spoilers maybe?]]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

Assuming Tyria and Earth are about the same size, and this globe of Tyria is accurate, then Orr is as big as France and Spain combined. That’s a big area full of corrupted magic. You might say Zhaitan is already dead, so the corruption should be gone as well, but that magical energy has to go somewhere. I mean, take for example Abaddon. When he died, he left behind tremendous amounts of magical energy. When Glint died, her shattered body left behind crystals of power. When the Bloodstone wkittentered into pieces, there still remains magical energy within. Magic can neither be destroyed or created, it’s part of reality, that’s like saying we need to erase the world or we need to create a new piece of the world. That conjured rock of yours btw, came from the world’s aether and your own combined, you’re not actually adding any magical energy to world, you’re just transforming it. It can however be transformed (eg. dragons “eating” magic) and transported (naturally it flows through the Mists and through the world as the leylines). If we can find a way to reverse what the dragons did to Orr, maybe we can hasten the cleansing (ie. the Pale Tree’s magic), but I think She alone can’t do it, and there’s a danger She herself can become overwhelmed, so it’s a slow, painful task. And now Mordremoth has arisen, and the Pale Tree weakened. I don’t think Orr will be cleansed any time soon.

Please re-include the Orders in the story!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

^ Yeah, about that. Are majority of the HoT content designed for level 80s? Should you finish the PS first before continuing? You were being referred to as Pact Commander in LS2, maybe you can join the pact without officially being a member of the pact? But doesn’t that make you a mercenary? Don’t tell me “there are no longer separate Orders, only one Order now exists”. That’s just lazy. They need to work together, but at the same time they need to be independent. They are independent.

So I’m guessing revenant characters will have a separate leveling area. It would be interesting to see how they would give revenants their personal history. I like the branching story of the original PS. It made things interesting, I even made multiple characters of the same race just to experience the other PS choices. I think GW2 was meant to be played over and over again, with multiple characters of various races and background.

We are probably going to become the Supreme Pact God Emperor of the Orders eventually, so we will have a Pact Marshal mastery line as well. We will have Paperworks mastery, 10% speed increase in bureaucracy. Meditative Mediation mastery, 50% increased chance to give a critical speech to lesser peons, aka pact commanders. Charisma Aura mastery will give a 100% chance NPCs will /kneel in reverence to your presence

You can’t AFK for prolonged periods of time without moving or using a skill, so they may be using bots. If not, and legitimately being lazy, a simple solution would be to put mordrem trolls near afk locations. Mordrem trolls use a projectile based attack that’s deadly if you don’t run away. Or maybe introduce another mordrem type, one that has a pull ability. I prefer this one, but stability spamming might prevent the pull ability. Maybe put both mordrem close together, and tweak the AI to target people on AFK spots first? How about instead of puller type mordrem, you could use a taunting mordrem?

Build Templates

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

I like that they now save your builds separately for PvE, WvW, and PvP, but sometimes I wish I could quickly change builds, in all game modes in fact.

WvW — I usually do camp capturing and tower guard duty in WvW, so I have a build that focuses on survivability in camp capturing (since you will go against many NPCs at a time), but when I see an enemy coming my way to defend the camp, I disengage and change builds to a more suitable dueling build. I wish there was a way to change quickly once out of combat.

PvP — it would be nice if I could change my build accordingly to my team’s and my enemy team’s composition quickly. The problem here is the one minute preparation time. You also need to analyze the enemy team, their possible move at the start of the game, what will you guys do at the start, think what could happen in the middle of the battle (eg. focus on this X and that Y, be careful Z they have this and that), communicate with one another, and then finally change your build. It would be VERY nice to focus more on discussing strategy with your fellow team mates on that one minute preparation, rather than being preoccupied with your build tinkering.

PvE — it’s primarily a QoL feature, since there’s no rush to change builds, except maybe if you are speed running. It’s a pretty nifty QoL change if you were just doing map completion and you want to use a build that focuses on mobility, then when you want to fight, you change your build to a more offensive one.

You may be thinking, “oh we might change things or add things in the future, so build templates is impossible, IMPOSSIBLE, I dare say, to implement because of the changing tides of the moon and the rise and fall of the sun”. -.- Then include a version number in the build template, so even if you change things, that version number will validate if a build template is compatible with the current system. To clarify, just in case ( -.- ), the version number is not the version number of the build, it’s the version number of the current system (ie. traits, equipment, etc. ) How would you specify version numbers to the system changes? This is just a suggestion bro, maybe you could think of a better way to do this, or maybe it’s not even needed, but this is just my hunch why you don’t want build templates, because you change things a lot, and I remember one of the devs were asking how you could encode templates in chat text form, when there are many things to include in the template code.

Asura character creation tips

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

My male asura had maximum height from the character creator. My female one though had the minimum height. Female asuras are so kittening cute. I plan to make 3 characters of each race, so my third asura would be a female guardian, but instead of minimum height, I’ll make her at maximum height. The reason for this is because she will have one of the premium face makeovers, so maximum height means more details on the face. That’s just it. You can either make him/her very small for cuteness sake, or maximize his/her height for the details.

Yeah they do get stuck, but there’s a trick to handling minions. Do not attack or engage enemies until your minions are near you, otherwise they will be continuously be on search mode, ie. looking for the one you are attacking, since I presume they have a short scan range and this causes them to freeze up. This is just my observation though, I’m not really sure what’s happening with their AI code. Would it be dangerous or open to exploits if the AI control is off loaded to the client instead of the servers? The reason for off loading to clients is to enable the possibility of a more advanced pet/follower AI, since AI calculations take up server resources.

I hate that mesmers are turning into a phantom lancer wannabe nowadays (phantasm lancer as I call it), although in Guild Wars 1, I like the energy surge build, which I call the antimage build, so I guess I shouldn’t complain if I see any similarities to DotA heroes. ^^;; I have bad lag, so I couldn’t interrupt properly in GW1, so one day I tried a build that focuses on destroying the energy of the enemy, similar to antimage of DotA which was my favorite champion, and I found the build to be… funny. Monks be mad they have no E. Then idiot assassin team mate starts attacking monk through bonetti’s defense kitten you. >:O My favorite class in GW1 is dervish, but mesmers are so fun to use. Actually all classes are fun to use, and it’s a good thing they made leveling up easier and accessible (ie. minimal grinding), so you could try and enjoy other classes quicker (both in GW1 and GW2). My one wish for the class is they retain their class identity, which was to counter and interrupt. Yeah I know, that’s not all there’s to mesmers (eg. illusionary weapon), but I feel that’s the direction mesmers are becoming.

What if we had an additional game mode where the map is ‘round based’ rather than ‘total points based’. The first team to reach 150 (or 200) points will get 1 point. Then the game will go on a one minute break period again, and during this time you can adjust your builds. The game will then resume (like a new game), and repeat this process until a team wins 2 rounds. I know anet wants PvP battles to last around the 10 to 15 minute mark, but I think this game mode will still meet the time limit requirement even with the one or two additional break periods.

Maybe add a pop-up indicating that they are now playing in a past version of Lion’s Arch. It’s a simple patch-up solution really.

Now that you’ve mentioned it, I wish they would add an NPC in the game that would “tell tales about the past Lion’s Arch”. What this NPC does is transport the player to the old Lion’s Arch, so he could wander around there and appreciate the sights (with all the events and NPC triggers disabled ofcourse). I myself want to see the old Lion’s Arch when nostalgia hits me sometimes. It may even bridge the gap for new players in the game. Oh wait, there’s already an NPC that gives a recap of what happened in LS1 (Magister Ela Makkay). How about this, give Magister Ela Makkay an additional dialogue option that will make the player character transport to the old Lion’s Arch. The dialogue would be as if Ela Makkay is interested to know more about the player character’s experience with the old Lion’s Arch, and this sequence would be like a flashback of sorts, but in playable form.

Before the trait system changes, the trait that increases Minion damage was in the Spite trait line. So before, it was ideally Spite, Death Magic, and Blood Magic for a pure MM build. I’m not sure about Spite over Soul Reaping. It’s a toss up really, that’s what I like about the GW series, you can customize your characters a lot. Maybe it’s situational, adjust it on the fly accordingly (this is why we kittening need templates anet). I use Soul Reaping for additional defense if the enemy team has many burst builds (you will assume here), and I use Spite if the enemy has too many bunkers and sustain (again, this is just an assumption of their builds).

A reason to push HoT release soon (Archeage)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

My concern is if anet will take a break after Heart of Thorns is released and for how long. Better start thinking of alternate weapon skills and new job classes for expansion 2. How about that Living Story season 1? wink wink In the short term, they want new players with the first expansion. In the long run, what they want is more buyers and sale of gems. Now that I’ve mentioned it, I see now that GW2’s market model is similar to League of Legends’ market model, ie. boosts, skins, upgrades, characters, etc., albeit you are more inclined to buy skins and characters in LoL because that’s the only way to extend the game and customize your characters. Customize your characters. Try some wacky outfits anet? Or theme outfits? Extend the game. What players call “end game” is the extension of this game, but what is the end game of GW2? Maybe Living Story is really the solution to extending the game, but I don’t think that’s the only way to extend it. I think PvP and WvW are also good candidates for end game (which I think was anet’s original plan for extending the game), but surprisingly, not majority of the population are into GW2’s PvP and WvW, when there are a lot of similar competitive games on the market that are very popular. Maybe make them fun? (Oh lawdy, buzzword) Try experimenting. I know it takes lots of effort to make game modes and changes, but you’ll never know where the gold nuggets are lying until you prospect the ground. I like to try alliance battles style again, like in GW1. I like Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry, but somehow Stronghold in GW2 seems lacking, maybe increase the team player count, and make the map larger? Try experimenting with maps that have more than 5 players? Try 8 like in GW1? I’m expecting GvG in GW2 to be awesome. DON’T kitten THIS UP. Guild Wars 2 with a bad, boring guild war gameplay, how ironic it would be.

Elite specialization is GW2’s take on secondary classes or advanced job classes found in other games. For example, in Ragnarok Online, you can choose to advance the swordsman class to a knight or crusader class. A much better example is Guild Wars 1. In GW1, you can have a secondary job class (with some limitations), so you can have warrior with monk skills, a wammo (W/Mo). What does this all mean? In the end, what this offers is variety. Elite specialization/secondary classes/advanced job classes open up “roles” to a class or even augments a role of the class. The problem is when the population start pinning down a class to a certain role, so either that elite specialization becomes the norm or becomes useless. Looking at the past skill, trait and stat system of GW2, I believe anet was trying to do the opposite, not to pin down roles on classes, ie. any class can be a nuker or a tanker. I’m bothered now that GW2 is losing that ideal, and I blame that kittening pvp amulet that dictates all of the stats of the character as one of the culprit. Plus all this “meta” bs, and it’s being sponsored by anet nonetheless (by showcasing metas in twitch casts wow, just wow). How about do something creative in your PvP twitch cast next time? Anet devs are afraid to be laughed at by meta heads and sheeple that worship the meta religion, when anet devs are the ones who made this game holy kitten.

Mounts [merged]

Posted by: HaxTester.9816

HaxTester.9816

Magic carpet, magic broom, etc. should have an auto enable option when out of combat. It’s because it is a hassle to re-enable it each time a random skritt on the map decides to throw a pebble at you while wandering the map. Sometimes I wonder if arenanet is thinking BOTH as a player and as a businessman. EASE OF USE = INCREASE IN SALES OF MOUNTS. And get this, they have NPCs wandering around Lion’s Arch riding magic brooms to encourage players to buy these mounts. Do you even play your own game arenanet? “Oh it’s hard to implement this, you have to make lots of programming code to do this.” sigh Sometimes the easiest solutions are the best solutions, and the complicated solutions are not necessarily the best. When you activate a toy, you get a buff for 30 minutes, and this buff will automatically transform you into mount form when out of combat. When you activate the toy again, you remove this buff. It’s already there, don’t you see. When you use the Aviator’s Memory Box or the Bobblehead Laboratory, you get a buff that affects you temporarily, albeit it’s only a visual effect and you alone see it. You can modify it so instead of a visual effect, it will become a transformation effect (for the mounts). So even though a skritt farted in your general direction and the server thought this was an act of aggression and it set you into combat mode, you can easily get back to mount form after a second or two.

How they got the end point there in the first place I couldn’t even begin to guess, but they did.

kitten , now that you’ve mentioned it, I suddenly remembered Mai Trin and her Aetherblades in EotM. They and their airships are now in there, and I vaguely remember Mai Trin saying that “Scarlett had a purpose for them being there” (aside from being a part of an achievement grind for players ofcourse j/k). I think they will have a part in the story of Heart of Thorns. kitten Scarlett, what were you thinking?

About the end points in the Fractals, WvW, etc. I remember there was this one Task in Brisban Wildlands called “Assist Ulta Metamagicals with their asura gate research”. They are fixing asura gates, and there were some clues in the dialogue that suggests that either they know before hand the “tuning coordinates” of a place, or they literally are trying to tune in to some sort of magical signal, sort of like tuning in to radio signals in real life. Since asura gates and waypoints are located and function best near leylines, maybe the nature of warp gates are closely connected to the leylines and aether/Mists itself. My guess is that they were trying to “tune in” to the strongest “aether signals” so to speak, and the signals where they point to came out to be the Heart of the Mists, and the Bordelands, and disastrously, Dessa discovered the coordinates to the Fractals.

Oh, the Mists part. That’s just a theory of mine, because portals “seem” to tear through reality, and in between reality is the Mists.

Yeah, you have to set up the end point as well, and if it’s big, it might take months. ^^;; But defensively, that’s like the Panama canal, a short cut for airships.

If there are warp gates that enable people and things to be teleported from one point in Tyria, to the Mists, then back again to Tyria to another point, why aren’t there warp gates big enough for airships? Would it take tremendous amounts of energy to keep these “warp ports” working? How do warp gate technology work? One explanation I could think of why there aren’t warp ports in Tyria is because of the energy required is exponential in nature. It’s a strategic military advantage to have warp ports if you ask me, not just warp gates for the troops. Heck why not blink the whole ship while we’re at it. kittening awesome to see an air ship use mesmer and elementalist magic to do all sorts of offensive and evasive maneuvers. Version 2 of airships perhaps? Get a piece of Bloodstone, chuck it inside an airship, and there we go. Nukular powered airship.

Edit: Holy kitten, I just realized now. Scarlett used something similar to warp ports to transport the Marionette and the Breachmaker all over Tyria. How did she learn that kind and level of magic? Where does she get the magical energy to power that spell, or even technology?

What if they announced 3 PvE maps for HoT?

They really need an additional work pipeline; one group who will work on the expansion, and the other for the live version (living story, upgrades/changes, in-game and community events, etc.) Right now, it’s like they can only do one at a time. So Living Story season3 after expansion release. Then when will you start working on expansion 2 (if ever GW2 reaches that point).

Suggestion: Defeated players become Mordrem

@Nate, They could use generic auto-attacking creature AI, but uses the character, armor, and weapon models of the defeated player.

@Fox, Yeah, that could be a problem. A solution would be to have an internal counter along with a trigger rate, and the clone mordrem would be summoned elsewhere, not exactly on the same place the character died.

I have a suggestion. When players die in maps where there is a heavy concentration of Mordrem, the player character will become “corrupted” of sorts, where his corpse will roam the land obeying the bidding of Mordremoth (similar to other Mordrem creatures). Not all characters, but randomly selected characters will have their likeness roam the map as a corrupted mordrem. The enemies will have names such “Corrupted Hex Mex Tex” or “Corrupted Shia Le Beef”. This will happen randomly and not all players that die will have their likeness be replicated. Lore-wise, what’s happening is that Mordremoth has released parasitic pollen that will grow inside people, and when the person dies or weakened severely, the parasite will grow and take control of the body of the infected person. For Sylvari characters, they will lose control of themselves to the whisper of Mordremoth. This can also be used a mechanic for faction based map wide battles. For example, the pact alliance versus the corrupted horde.

how would Guild Wars 2 run?

I’d like to ask a “can GW2 run on this” question too. I wanted to take a group picture of my characters, by taking pictures of a location/spot over and over again (without moving the camera view), while the characters stand/pose on different places of that location. That means I need another PC to run my main account while an alternate account takes pictures. The problem is the only available PC or rather PC parts here are my Intel Core2Duo E7600 and a motherboard with an Intel G31 graphics chipset. My question is, will Guild Wars 2 run on Intel G31 chipset? I’d like to know first before I reassemble it and install an OS and all that stuff (troublesome if at the end of it all, I would find out it won’t run GW2). The minimum requirement of GW2 is GeForce 7800, but I don’t really care if it would run at only 5 frames per second. I’m just going to use it to position my characters.

Minion AI stealth fixed??

They are hyper aggressive now, which is bad for me, but I’ll try to work around it. Before, what you do is don’t target anyone until you reach a point where you want to fight. Now, they attack on sight, which can be a good or bad thing. Bad if you are trying to defend a point, and want them to stay there. Before, people will try to attack you thinking that minions will follow them and they will lure the minions far you, but if you don’t target them, minions won’t attack the enemy, so they stay with you. Only target the enemy when it is close. Now, no matter what, as long as the enemy is within aggro range, they will move and attack, which is really bad. Now their lure tactics work, whether I am targeting them or not. Now I have to move farther or even off point, so that if they want to lure my minions away, they are actually moving to my trap by coming closer. Yeah sure, before, they do freeze up sometimes, but it is manageable. That’s the key thing, even though they are uncontrollable, they can be made manageable with experience. Now I’m like surrounded by a pack of rabid dogs chasing a stinky butt whenever they smell it (and I wash my butt, I don’t just wipe mind you).
