North towers are already relevant on ABL in the fact that you can hit garrison from both north towers and Bay from SW tower with trebs. The relevance of the north towers is that home hold them so garri os better protected.

What you propose is to make a change to DBL, which is all well and good, but the proposed change would no doubt affect ABL at rotation as well as ALL towers everywhere. Plus, DBL already is setup so the team with the most people can cap everything with little to no effort, WHY provide the zergs another place to hide out while they mindlessly shoot seige at a keep?

Towers shouldn’t have that kind of power in any BL since some are ridiculously easy to take and camp already.

SM on the other hand, as I said is most fought over object and is easily held by 1 server currently for long periods of time if its defended right. Therefore, if a cheesy upgrade of that caliber was implemented, SM would be the place for it.

I think the OP lost alot of people when they said change this to be more like EOTM, then asked if another poster even plays wvw.

The borderlands aren’t the same as EOTM and therfore shouldn’t have the same stuff. Now, if you were to suggest that this upgrade be added to SM, that might open a good debate, since SM is the only object that can be held by 1 server at a time and is the most hotly contested object on any wvw map.

I found map completion on multiple characters was the quickest way. But, I wanted all of the ascended weapons and quick mastery and elite leveling.

I had so many gift of the fleets (7) that I had to run more toons though other maps to clear space in my bank and the unevenness of varying number of map gifts I’d received. To this day, I have 4 gifts of Maguma and 3 gifts of the fleet. But, I have all but 2 of the asc weapons and am sitting at 161 mastery points. It took about 3-4 months to get to that point, after which I looked at the last 2 weapons and said, I don’t use or need those right now.

While I think it’s possible to get to 161 using 1 toon, you will end up fighting tons of mobs to get those last few categories and it may get boring after awhile.

The benefits to running other toons through are perhaps more diverse leveling and increased chances of collecting more off the other items you’ll need for your asc weapons (ie currencies, loot box opening devices, profession specific items) not to mention unlocking other elite professions along the way.

Either way, as was said above, run experience boosters to speed up the process, those T5 masteries are slow and get daunting after awhile.

Don’t run from them! When they pop out of stealth, like they always do (out of nowhere) when you’re skipping through the daisies humming, quick evade backwards, turn and fight them. You may die, but making them work for it is always more fun, and if you run they won’t let you go anyway.

Edit: Stealth traps are fun too, if you have backup and supply.

I like to mistform away or down mes/thief teleport facing away from the approaching friendly zerg right as the enemy goes in for the spike. They always chase me for the second spike attempt and even if they aren’t about to get ambushed, it’s still fun to watch them chase and make them work for my bag

I propose they increase the range of #5 FGS so you can hit Sup acs on 3rd story SM.

I don’t know if it’s still this way. But, used to be an ele had to trait 10? Points in arcane to reach stuff others couldn’t, if it’s still that way, you’re talking someone who’s now traited a whole line to do that now. Leave Eles alone! Nerf revs and DHs.

It’s an interesting idea. But I would disagree that a yak should take all supply, maybe damage gate is better proposal, because not all yaks go to towers only. There’d be some upset defense if they lost bay because someone didn’t catch that one Rouge yak in time and 1500 supply was gone out of bay as a result.

Isolated in the way that both south camps are not. Meaning, south camps are not as easy to camp because you could be zerged by 2 servers if you in the blue bl South camp next to greens spawn.

Either way, north camp is still (IMO) the easiest for the server with more people to camp, but thats just 1 issue I brought up. The major issues with this camp are, its supply feeds 2 towers that no other camp feeds, it also feeds Garri. When faced with a paper bl, people run from spawn NORTH to north camp, then go back south to other things, this up to go down issue always felt weird, now more so since DBL.

The supply mechanics and position of this camp are just strange to me personally.

If they ended the beta tonight and all servers were back, the majority still seems to favor more pop and fewer servers. It’s sad for those on servers that could ultimately be lost forever. I heard this is a 3 month beta, I don’t know if that’s still true, but if it lasts longer and hosts become guests and guests become hosts, we do need to push for some way to honor the contributions of everyone fighting this joint battle.

Not if your home server is outnumbered 10:1, everything is taken and the server that’s out numbering you has most of their numbers and seige (including omegas) facing every direction of North camp. It’s happened more than once in the past.

I like North camp, but, because of its isolation from third servers spawn, and the fact that its north of spawn rather than south, its the lifeblood of reclaiming and it controls supply to TWO towers, when the bigger server controls it on the smaller servers BL, it is the easiest and most beneficial to camp simply because of where its located and what it does.

Also, sort of in regards to spawn trebs/seige. Has anyone seen home defense razor, or did he get disabled too? I mean, not that I’ve tried it, but if old SR isn’t there anymore, the increase of questionable spawn seige might be part of the reason.

It is rather annoying that the closest camp to spawn is the one that’s easiest for an enemy to camp. Also, it always annoyed me that it’s the only one that supplies both northern towers in addition to garri.

Tower wise, sometimes its a good thing for defense to be able to hit garri from the towers, I just don’t know if the tradeoff is worth it with the new numbers.

If they change ABL so you can’t treb a tower from a keep, then they should also change EBG so you can’t treb red keep from SM.

No one ever complains about that you say? Been broken for years some one should,. In fact, they should scale down EBG and move all keeps closer together so we can all just treb away at each other.

Now everyone else has to suffer? Need I remind you that many if not all of the merged servers have lost a good portion of their population to the “fight tier” servers over the last few years. Most of the merged servers hit 24th or got extremely close. Some rebuilt or were working to rebuild, but ALL have suffered when their bigger “selfish” guilds jumped ship in the name of instant gratification. Those that didn’t jump ship weren’t the selfish ones! Many stayed in or around the tier because they liked it.

When exactly has BG/JQ/TC/YB and the 1 or 2 other stacked servers suffered? Servers/players from the “fight tiers” are who helped create the imbalance that the “selfish low tier players” are being forced to fix, and most of the higher tiers are of course loving the extra bodies, because they didn’t even have to pay for them.

Selfish players? The definition of that term is quite different in everyone’s mind. Personally, I consider players that have never stepped outside the comfort of kitten to be selfish, tiers and individuals that label all tiers below them dead because they don’t have a 4 map que are selfish in my book. Guilds and players transferring to a “dead” server to steal more of their pop for their actual home server, selfish! Bragging that because most of your new recruits appear to still playing and you can now slaughter the T1 server that you slaughtered a month ago is selfish! Labeling players that don’t prefer that playstyle for whatever reason and saying “everyone” is happy is selfish!

Improvements shouldn’t have had to have been made in the first place and definately not forced improvements, especially drastic tier changes on those that have already lost so much and continued where they were because they liked it. If a player got moved to another tier they actually enjoy, that’s great, but if they don’t enjoy it, it’s well within their right to say so and not be labeled by the very players that helped create and continued to harvest the problem.

NSP/SF and DH/FC got the rawest deals with this pair beta. According to the updated leaderboards NSP shouldn’t even be a host this next week and DH is in the same situition NSP was two weeks ago, only DH is now listed as Full. Unless Anet reworks the pairs, if we get another T4 match with the current pairings, no matter who gets green is guaranteed glicko gain.

Continue with your ques and large nonstop zerg battles to your hearts content, but don’t attack someone because their idea of fun isn’t the same as yours.

Though I’m disappointed BL Seige Razor is still in retirement, I’m happy that ABL is back and that BOTH maps are in a rotation.

This map, while unappealing to some is appealing to others, the same is true for DBL. This system is a great way to keep most of us happy half the time and allows them to work out kinks in the down map while we continue to play.

Depends on what the idea is exactly.

If anyone is suggesting that freshly paired NA servers be paired with freshly paired EU servers (cutting 30 servers down to 15) well, yeah, I have a problem with that.

If on the other hand the suggestion is hey, when this current merge beta is over and we go back to 24 NA servers, it’d be really cool to merge EU in. Well, yeah, I think someone somewhere would have a problem with that too.

Prior to reset I mentioned this to people, “if you’re prone to switching toons, pick your class well tonight”. A few asked me to clarify. I switch regularly, and a few others I know do as well. As we learned on reset, the ques in all 4 maps on all tiers were a waiting game. Though, they did slack off as the week progressed, EBG is almost always holding a que.

I think, for the most part it’s not a problem, but to for those that do switch, understand, though this would be nice, it’s probably not high on the priority list or even thought about by most people. So, use this week as an example and pick well tonight and the remainder of this week.

First off, congrats for being able to play with your gf. Your story/journey reads almost exactly like mine. I get to play with my Fiance, we both chose SF as our home, been in wvw for 2.5 years, came to love almost all our teammates, took the move up to T5 as it came and didn’t mind losing, but we’re both really wary of going any higher because of population and the fact that some of our most dedicated people stopped playing when we rose above certain tiers. T5/T6 was perfect in our minds. The pairing we got, shocked me at first, it really was the last one I expected. Culture wise, the people of NSP for the most part have been accepting and not toxic. It’s really like the first day of school, you flock to those you know and maybe male some new friends along the way. But, in my head, I definately had a different picture of this server.

Population wise, on its Best and worst day I simply couldn’t believe there was ever a time people found that fun.

I sympathize with the roamers that came from T7/T8, but I’m thankful my server wasn’t or hasn’t yet been paired with a higher server.

For me, after learning how to play and finding my grove, it was never about coverage or winning, sure it was nice to, and if my teammates wanted a push, of course Id help, but moving up the ranks, pushing for T2? Wasnt top priority to me personally. I enjoyed leisurely roams, capping towers with 2 people, the thrill of being spotted by 5 enemies and engaging in 5v2s. I haven’t had any of that this week.

I wanted ABL back immediately after HOT, reconsidered the week before pairings because the landscape and mechanic changes made it nicer, and reconsidered again after pairings.

DBL is not as big as it used to be with this “beta”. ABL is TOO small at this time with the number of people active in all tiers.

There is no right answer right now. I know if they bring ABL back, it is 1) Way out in schedule and 2) Would include all HOT mecanics.

On the surface it seems like the nostalgia would pull back more people, but look deeper and realize, you can barely take a BL sentry in T4 right now without being run over by 10+. Sentries in ABL would most likely have the marked feture as well, with quicker times for enemy zergs to reach you and mow you down.

Bringing back ABL in any sort of merged system with the HOT mechanics will not work. Bringing back ABL in an unmerged system won’t work for higher tier servers. DBL is still a ktrain in all merged tiers, there are only more people on them now because there are fewer tiers. 9/10 both Green and Blue are zerging on opposite sides of red bl guaranteeing 1 lost keep, probably both, no different in either
DBL or ABL.

With an uncertain future and the tendency to bring 1 thing that pleases people back while adding another thing that pushes people away, there is no right answer.

My main (Ranger) appears to have only one option, Point Blank Shot, with a long cool down, so I have to be exact when I use it. I appreciated when some one calls out ‘CC Now’.

Trap skills, muddy terrain, entangle and many pets have F2 cc, even if it’s soft cc, it’s better than nothing. For the pets, you may need to call them back and put them on passive during the non cc phases.

I remember playing the day HOT released, so many people, such excitment, mostly vetern players, we still failed Patriach! What is this new green bar? We thought. Luckily someone else had the same question and read Wiki. Over the next few months it was regularly announced in chat, then people moved on and it’s rarely said anymore.

First, assume no one reads wiki and everyone is new to HOT and GW, then consider that half those in the group dont even know what CC is and the other half in the group dont have enough combined CC to break the break bar, but say it in chat just in case its the first one.

Much in the same way duelers overtook the scene over the last year or so, zergs, large roaming groups and stationary gank squads have emerged with this beta and everyone must adjust.

Before, you’d have a situation of 1 server, learning and respecting (or not respecting) who’s dueling. Now you have 2 servers with duelers on both sides wanting to duel outside SM? SM, that’s regular patrolled by groups and zergs from 6 different servers? No one is going to stop and ask every time if it’s a duel, no one has time to, and by my estimation, the enemies that stand out in those spots now are not dueling or waiting to duel, they are ganking straglers, roamers and pepole wanting to duel. The rules have changed! Roamers must now take the long way or any way they can find through the waiting gank squads or Inc zergs and duelists must find some place else for a 1v1, it’s simple logic.

Also keep in mind the matchups are not exactly balanced because some of the servers are not in the tier they belong in. Moving one position up or down a tier can make a difference in the matchup.

You speak as if they were locked into the merges we have by some algorithm. But they’re not. They have 100% control over how to merge. They have all the population and coverage data to do this properly. So why didn’t Anet make the appropriate merges? Maybe if they put more thought and work into the merges, the resulting matchups could be more balanced… and really importantly: it might even be possible to create more diversity of matchups.

Changes had to have been made in some pairings because of public fear that certain pairings would ruin the mode even further. Take NSP for example, pretty consistent mid level T5, SF was 15th before this pairing (3 servers in to the cutoff of spot), we were straddling T5/T6 weeks before this change, not big enough to succeed to a significant degree in T5, too big for T6. Yet, EB, the 13th place server before pairs, who straddled T4/T5 got bumped, depending on when the numbers were taken, FC and everyone 16th and below got bumped significantly in some cases, while SF got paired with the cutoff server?

I’m not knocking NSP here, in fact, Im enjoying playing with them (as unfair as it seems to both of us at times), but when you look at EB/NSP weeks before the pairs, both right at the 12th place cutoff point, what else was Anet supposed to do? NSP/EB would’ve destroyed T4 and made a significant dent in T3, any other pairings that went up against them wouldve floundered and been stuck til the end of beta. Other possibilitities, TC/DR, SBI/SF same story. It would’ve been been worse I think.

The pairings overall seem like a good choice to the extent that the matches were right. This is where I find fault, but looking at the possibilities, again, HOD/EB in T4, Mag/DR in T3, would it have been any better?

I’m looking and I don’t see lopsided matches based purely on current NA score. Its only Monday, all those currently in second place and maybe even a couple in third are more than capable of closing the gaps in the score, but they won’t, they’ll instead throw their hands up and say the system is broken.

The glicko gap is another beast entirely, but the current scores in T4 are closer than they were at this time a week or 2 or 3 or a year ago in T5-T8. In terms of pairings, a few adjustments could probably be made by Anet, but, theres only so much they could do and if the people on those servers aren’t going to participate then the matches woud really be as lopsided as before.

I give the devs a B for doing something to try and help us, but in the end, if we don’t do something as well, the F belongs to us alone.

Guess what all of a sudden being in a top tier does, Culture shock at seeing the blob mentality which nobody on the lower tiers ever wanted or we would have joined all of the people wanting to live off of the hard work of the already established top tiers and transferred.

We understand this is a Beta, and we are here letting Anet know how we feel about it. We will continue to voice our opinions or else Anet will think that we actually agree and nothing will change.

I’m on SF, after the pairing and seeing numbers this weekend on the new lowest tier, it was a cultural shock, and thats a situation of basically not moving up, just more bodies grouped. I can’t imagine what some that spent years around T7/T8 going in to Tier 1 to Tier 3 must be feeling so far. But, I imagine, they now know what a blob is.

[Suggestion] Bring back rewards for WvW maps

Many current vets came into wvw only for map completion and stayed. Commanders on my server and most likely every server at one time or another have purposely attacked a well defended keep just so some of the newer people could get the vista.

Map completion may not have pulled in all pvers, but it pulled in more than the system since megaserver did.

Depending on how many new people the reward track coupled with server pairings pulls in, this might be something to look at again in 6 months or so. Right now though, we can be pretty positive we’ll see an increase in forces over the course of the beta tests.

In the future though, bringing back another incentive to get new people in would be a good idea. The new people of today, may be missing out on a huge part of the game they dont know exists and could actually enjoy.

I like that they put Ceera (Tonns wife) in Auric Basin and that she won’t talk to you if you’re on a character that completed Breaking the Bone Ship.

It’s a nice tie in to where you and the NPCs were then and where we all are now.

Despite the fact that she can’t forgive us, she still continues to help the cause. Which is what it’s really about, though we are in charge, we need a team to defeat the threat.

Concerns about World Linking & Reward Tracks

“Some world’s linked” but not all? “Variation of matchups”.

Wouldn’t it be cool to see a T6 server linked with a T8 server competing in a T1 match against 2 T1 servers where the T6/8 wins?

Even if the matches are lost, I’m excited about the shear match diversity this test will bring for everybody. This will bring people back and reward tracks will attract new people, who cares if it’s permenent right now, it doesn’t need to be.

I don’t share th he optimism regarding the T1/T1 v T6/T8 thing. The likely effect is the lower tier team getting slaughtered and the players quitting or transferring to a higher tier server to avoid having to go through it again.

The “optimism” wasn’t masking the fact that most likely the T6/8 server would get slaughtered in that scenario, in fact they probably would. I said it’d be cool! That’s where the joy for me comes into play, because THAT matchup would be different than anything most lower tier people have yet to see.

As Sus said, people from lower tiers may hate T1-3, and vice versa T1-3 may hate low tier people. But the diversity that could come with these testing matches could be quite fun whether or not you win or lose.

It would be quite interesting to have the old trait system back, with up to 5 selectable lines, putting in 5 points to the elite line so one could only run the elite weapon if they wanted and use the remaining points on other things they find useful as far as lines/traits, thus building a wider span of crazy builds across the board. But, as far as trait lines adding to armor stats, the new system seems to be better in that respect and I personally wouldn’t want that aspect of the old system back as it forced many into lines they didn’t necessarily want, but had to have.

They were at close to 100k on Saturday, most offense, which couldnt have been much to begin with, probably gave up for the week then.

The previous record, 641,128 was posted by DH a month ago in the DH/SF/CD match, prior to that the record (as far as research took anyone that looked into it) was 615,000 posted early game in BGs favor.
