… At OP, do you think that by having some other method of using these things dropped in chests it would be “as bad” or would it irritate you more if you had 9 of them but needed 10 to actually trade them in, lol?
Again, i totally know what you mean. I only play wvw so the rez orbs and teleports really have no value to me. But if they do to someone else, by me having stacks of them…it seems so wasteful. It would be nice to trade them to other players or trade them for other goods of equal or lesser value.

What about instead of even having any of the items drop in the chests, they are all removed completely and replaced with a BLTC Coin that can be traded for any of the common items in the chest?

So to be clear, what I am advocating is for all of the below to be removed and the same chance to gain a token which is tradeable for any of these same items.

Bank Access Express
Trading Post Express
Merchant Express
Teleport to Friend
Tome of Knowledge
Unidentified Dye
Transmutation Charge
Black Lion Claim Ticket Scrap
Revive Orb (2)
Large Crafting Bag
Medium Crafting Bag
Black Lion Salvage Kit
Toy Miniature Egg

That way you can choose what is useful to you and not just put the ToKs you got with the other 1000 you have. I really think this is a good idea that solves all the issues.

I just had a thought that if they just added the reward track progress to the mini map like in HoT for the core game maps, then you can just call the map rewards the daily map bonus. So its just displaying the progress on the reward track for you to see, just like HoT/WvW participation and rewards. Once the bar fills up, it is greyed out with a timer like the Ectoplasm Refinement crafting items.

I reckon that would work a treat.

Since any gold farmer worth anything knows how to work around DR, why not just have a visual notice that you are being affected by it so people can swap characters? You can see that the karma is right down while farming events, but you can’t really tell how DR is affecting you. Someone who is farming with bots for a living IRL, already knows exactly what to do to maximize profit.

If someone is using automation or botting, its likely they are not monitoring the screen constantly to know when to swap characters to reset their DR or when their character DR for map rewards will reset, so why not help legitimate players?

Players will farm the content that is the most profit per hour. That will ONLY BE ONE event or chain of events. They will not jump from one event to another because that is inefficient use of their time.

There is no way to make players farm a variety of content in one play session. Farmers will ALWAYS choose the content that gives them the most profit per hour on average.

I beg you! Please reread my post.

Anet can easily ensure players will farm a variety of content in one play session by making that more profitable than any repeatable farm.

That’s starting to sound a bit totalitarian to me.

So what if doing something you find boring is profitable to those who decide to do it repeatedly for hours? What do you have against those that wish to do that?

Too many Account bound materials

The problem is that these extremely common high tier materials all depend on extremely uncommon materials like Obsidian Shards to craft anything. So while I have built up huge stocks of these materials, I don’t have obsidian shards to craft them into anything. I’m sure that at some point the stuff I craft them into will also rack up, but for now it’s the base materials that are the issue for me.

Mate, Obsidian Shards are not difficult to come by, you can event/chest farm the SW for them and get plenty, then head to Glorious Victory Waypoint — [&BPoCAAA=] and if the temple is open, buy as many as you need for 2.1k Karma each.

BL chests have to include useless stuff. The idea is that they always drop junk, except sometimes they drop something mildly useful or interesting. (Oh, yeah, sometimes someone else hits the jackpot — that’s what keeps the rest of us playing and some of us spending cash to buy them.) …

I would agree with you if we were talking about tangible objects that have a value attached to them simply by existing and being made from some resource, but these are 1’s and 0’s that cost nothing to produce. There is absolutely zero reason why every BLC could not have some actual in-game value for anyone who opened one. There would be far more incentive to purchase keys if you KNEW you would get something decent, as it is now, you can get 2 ToK and a 15% speed boost and pay 36g for them.

…I never said anything about being able to obtain boosters and the QoL consumables outside the chests or gem store. I’m not sure where you got that idea.

You never specified that you weren’t talking about those either. I assumed we were talking about all the items in the BLC, not just trans charges and unid dyes.

And here I thought people wanted scavanger hunts for the easy way to work towards a specific precursor without having to pray to rng jesus

Both, actually. We had the rng way, and we had the “paying through the nose” way. What people wanted was a way based not on rng, not on gold/mat sinks, but on effort.

And that is what we got.

Describe this effort, please, that does not require materials nor gold to achieve, but still has value.

So, skill, effort and time investment do not count at all?

Crafting a precursor after gathering every material is not hard, it just takes time to gather the materials, time being the effort.

Yes, precisely. There’s no effort required in t2 collections. Just mats and gold sink – the same as in buying from tp. Except, quite often, buying off tp is cheaper.

If you want an alternative to “paying through the nose”, it shouldn’t be “paying the same or more, and do a lot of other things on top of it”. Because that’s no alternative at all.

The effort is going out and collecting the materials. Would you prefer having to collect something else that takes as much time, that is account bound?

I don’t like adventures in this sort of game because:

  • Your profession doesn’t matter.
  • Your masteries don’t matter.
  • Your skill in the rest of the game doesn’t matter.

You forgot;

  • Your ping really matters, therefore
  • Your physical location on the earth matters

If adventures were instanced and client side, I think a lot of these type issues could be resolved, but I would literally never ever have played one unless the specialisation collections required it. Even then, I had to loan my account to a trusted friend to complete a couple of them because the unstable latency made a couple of them literally impossible for me to complete. Same way gliding to anything in HoT was impossible until gliding was made client side.

ToK in Black Lion Chests

Heimskarl Ashfiend.9582

Well I don’t find any use for the boosters so please remove them as well. In fact, remove any item that can be bought from the TP.

There are players who appreciate those tomes of knowledge even if there are other ways to obtain. them.

The boosters are at least not obtainable from other sources without paying gold/gems.

But I find them useless therefore they should be removed. Unidentified dyes should be removed because you can get them from the laurel merchant and some loot bags. Transmutation charges should be removed because you can get them from map completion and/or re-rolling a character to farm the town map completion. Crafting bags should be removed because you can get the mats by playing the game.

Isn’t that the entire premise on why you don’t want ToK in the bl chests? Whether or not there are other sources doesn’t matter.

No its not the entire premise. You cannot obtain thousands of those other items easily in the game simply by playing.

Wrong. You can obtain them at a much faster rate than you can obtain ToK. Many players find ToK useful either to level up characters or for the spirit shards. They may even find them more useful than the boosters. Why are you thinking that what you find useful to you is the standard on what should and shouldn’t be among the rewards in the BL chests?

But I too find the ToK useful for those reasons, just not useful enough to think they should be included in the BLC. Please show me how I can get 10 of any of those other items or even all of them combined, per day, because ToK I can easily get that many just by doing dailies, playing PvP and WvW. If you know a way I can get my boosters and BL merchants/ bank expresses without buying keys, great!

I have no issue with fluff, such as boosters and merchants, bank access express items, thats why I open the chests, because they are actually useful. The other items do not belong in there.

Isn’t “fluff” anything that isn’t useful to you? There’s nothing wrong with being against fluff — some people prefer to get nothing rather than stuff they have to delete. Most gamers, however, prefer to get a lot of stuff — empty chests tend to depress more players than junk does. (I know the psychology and it still works on me: more feels better than less, even if it’s the same net value.)

tl;dr there’s no meaningful difference between “the other items do not belong” and “I have an issue with fluff.”

I would not classify “fluff” as something that isn’t useful, I would consider something not useful to be useless and have no place in the BLC, so no I don’t agree with your tldr.
“Fluff” should be something that is useful to anyone and still not easily obtained as an in-game reward, such as boosters or BL bank express/merchants etc.

ToK are just too common to be included in something people pay real money for.

… after 75 keys, and nothing to show for it, I never bought them again. They really are not worth the money/gold, they will not change them untill people stop buying keys.

This is the premise. Better value from your gold/gems when opening chests. ToK and repair canisters are not value as they are so easily obtained elsewhere or are completely superfluous.

Chests are just not worth opening right now for 36g per key and part of that reason is the rubbish like these items that you get constantly.

BL chests have to include fluff. The idea is that they always drop junk, except sometimes they drop something mildly useful or interesting. (Oh, yeah, sometimes someone else hits the jackpot — that’s what keeps the rest of us playing and some of us spending cash to buy them.)

Don’t want the fluff? Delete it.
(I’m more sympathetic than that sounds — I also get bored with stuff filling up inventory, especially from boxes like BL chest. I just think it detracts from my fun to worry about it.)

Another definition of exploit – and the one pertinent to this discussion – is to utilize a design in an unintended way. That is clearly what is happening here and the fact that they have not addressed it is not, in fact, evidence to the contrary.

Can you point me to any actual dictionary definition where this is the case? Because that is no definition of exploit I have ever read. But if what you mean by that is people are able to obtain a profit from it, then its true, it is an exploit, but without any negative connotations.

To utilize a design in an unintended way is not exploiting that design, that is Unintended Use and is a hallmark of ingenuity and innovation. Its not impacting negatively unless it is also unethical, unfair or underhanded, multi-mapping is none of those.

If ANet considered it negative exploitation, then it would have been fixed by now because any programmer worth anything can put a 2hr timer on the loot chests, before morning tea. And they have had ample patches with which to implement it. No fix, no comments. No problem.

Silence on this issue is a statement that it is a non issue. If you remain silent in a court of law, they can do whatever they like with you and you have no leg to stand on. Same situation here.

Admittedly this does tend to be an item which people either don’t need at all, or really seem to need. I get them quickly enough, but having just dumped all of them into a guildhall, and seeing that ~300 more will be needed soon, I don’t mind receiving them. I’ve got a friend that grabs them at every opportunity to level her alts (she’s still sitting on a level 46 mes, and I know she likely wants to get another alt going).

Perhaps additional sinks are required, for those that don’t have a hall to support nor alts to level?

I already donated several stacks for the guild hall, leveled several alts with them, used 500 for spirit shards and I still have two stacks sitting in the bank. We don’t need more sinks for them, i just don’t want to pay gold or gems for them when they are already so easy to get in the game.

Why are these items taking up one of the slots in a chest when you open it? They are near useless and if anyone actually wants them, they can acquire them easily in the game without spending 36g for the chance to get one.

Please remove these useless items from the chests, anything would be better than getting more of these, especially when you have paid for it.

Instant Repair Canisters are still in those, too.

Ah yes, I forgot about those. Have a heap of those too. Remove those as well, neither serve a purpose if you are paying for the chance. at something decent.

[Suggestion] Refine (Crafting) own tab

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Heimskarl Ashfiend.9582

Heimskarl Ashfiend.9582

I love to craft, but their crafting organization is really really bad. For example, If you close the arrow for stuff you are not actively doing (maybe you aren’t making armor or weapons, etc) it doesn’t stay closed, you have to close it again each time you open it. So if you make a legendary weapon, the legendary components will always show, even if you aren’t making it anymore. It makes finding what you want to do harder and harder the more you craft and it increases mistakes. I’ve literally lost probably 100 gold from hitting the wrong thing while crafting, all because it is disorganized

This.

And yet, while you can type something into the search field and it will persist between characters, you can’t click the bank tab and grab something and then come back to the crafting tab and have the arrows you clicked still closed.

Move refinement to the top of the list and remove the precursor recipes from the tab with the creation of the item at the end of that collection level too. Since you cannot repeat the recipe, its pointless for it to exist after you have completed it.

…Until someone at ANet with a high enough position comes out and says that what is happening is intended behavior, I will consider it an exploit.

What do you classify as being an exploit? To exploit something is to take full advantage of the resource. Check, that is correct meaning, people have found the most efficient and profitable way of doing the AB Meta.
It is also to make use of a situation in an unfair or underhanded way. I don’t think that is possible because there is nothing underhanded about it, underhanded means secret, and it is not unfair to anyone as all can participate. An exploit is also a bold or daring act… Not exactly.

I don’t see how you can declare this an exploit at all. Perhaps in your opinion it is not in the spirit of the game, but that is a personal thing not reflected by the developers.

I think if they wanted to fix this situation, they have had many opportunities to do so and they have not, because as it is, it’s a good situation for the game economy as its generating a huge influx of materials that have high demand, the prices for which would have jumped up even further.

Leather farming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Heimskarl Ashfiend.9582

Heimskarl Ashfiend.9582

I would make green/yellow sigils salvageable for T6 leather, using the Copper-Fed-SOM you have a 20% chance of getting one, so if the chance to get a T6 from salvaging a sigil was 50% or so, then the supply would be increased significantly, the huge amount of sigils lying on the TP would be bought up and people could gather these for themselves reliably through normal play. Would also allow people to salvage the sigils to get rid of them from their inventory on the fly and at the same time reduce the (minimal) coin entering the economy through vendoring them.

Either that or make Rare leather items over lvl76 guarantee a T6 leather.

…You can’t really ‘farm’ anything in this game, except the gold you need to buy the mats you want; it’s only when you get lucky that some of those mats come from your own ingame activity. That’s how this game is designed. From where I sit, it’s actually working as intended…

I disagree, I just finished farming everything needed for Incinerator and it took me about 120hrs. In doing so I discovered how absurdly easy it is to make gold in this game, so not only did I make a legendary without buying anything (except mystic coins and destroyer cores), but I also made the precursor and finished 400g on top by selling the stuff I got on the side.

  • +10% Outgoing Healing
  • +10% Experience from Kills

Currently the +200 Healing Power after using a Heal skill does not work, the +10% Outgoing healing is working, but not the +200HP. I tested this with my Druid and Glyph of Rejuvenation using Regeneration and also with Troll Unguent, on my pet and myself. The stat window does not change and the value that the Regeneration or Troll Unguent heals for does not change after using the healing skill.

In fact I have multiple legendaries but guess what? I never change the stats because of the sigils. I just make ascended if I want a different stat that I will be switching to often

The QoL feature of legendary armor is nearly worthless without an ability to save runes. .

Exactly, its pointless to even make legendary gear for the stat swapping because you can’t swap your sigils or runes to suit the build. If it were added, they would be actually legendary.

Rangers should ABSOLUTELY be able to stow their pet and not have it leave stow when combat is entered, and or be able to stow while in combat.

I get why stowing pets in combat could be a bit of an issue, but that could be solved with putting pet swap on CD if you stow while in combat.

Not popping out of stow automatically when combat is entered would be great and serve many purposes.

Pets should not be a hindrance, this is an easy way to fix many instances where they are.

Also, swapping pets should count as a weapon swap for the purposes of swap sigils.

sharpen edges still needs work, your thoughts?

Sharpened Edges is the best bleed application trait in the game.

Imo, rapid re-application is far better than long duration for everything except nuking a boss and really anything will do that.

…Because you can cleanse the nuke. You can’t cleanse something that lasts for 3 seconds and keeps coming every other. That’s what you call a wasted cleanse.

Absolutely.

I don’t think it really needs any changes to the trait itself, tbh, but if it were not competing with Trapper’s Expertise, we could have a trap build perhaps….

Gunflame needs adjusting

The way to fix Gunflame is to not run around in full zerker gear. The meta has made everyone glass so people are going to get destroyed by skills like this. If people start scaling back the power creep and going back to P/T/V gear you will see less people using these “OP” abilities.

I still get hit for 10k with 3750 armor. It is spammable, heal skills are not.

You could get 25 might on a full Ranger party if everyone brings a Jungle Stalker. Two traited Frost Spirits would cover for overlap. If everyone was to bring the Tiger as well, you’d have an application of Fury every second, so Remorseless may end up better than PO.

I like the idea, but blind may be a bit too strong, could always make it a damaging condition or AoE Weakness.

Reduction in damage as opposed to nullifying the next attack with weakness or it could be torment or confusion for something different for us.

Great idea, +1.

Can we make it not follow the ground also? Terrain makes a mockery of it.

Mats for Guild and Scribing Upgrades

…That sink as you all should know is the Xulani Electrum Ingots… Check wiki:
Uses Copper, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Mithrillium

The ratios are yet unknown – but we know there will be a sink for these mats soon

Or they could be the next Clay Brick. If the Brick of Mud in the form of the recipe to craft them never appears…

If they did not create a sink for the low tier leather, then the high tier leather would have had to substitute, meaning its price would have gone up by orders of magnitude.

If something is worthless, give it some worth, instead of making everything else even more expensive.

How many rangers feel "robbed" by druid spec?

…not everyone enjoys druid…

And that will never change. How is a thread discussing this going to help?

I agree with Tragic, your reasons are illogical.

Druid has brought to the table everything Ranger needed. Who cares about Ranger hate anyway? I NEVER see it in-game, its only in some fantasy land where optimal DPS is all that is cared about, namely the forums. Not in the game. Ranger does amazing DPS anyway, plus tons of party support.

I don’t use the trailine in PvE because I don’t need to, core Ranger has everything needed. In WvW I use the Druid because it has the additional support I want, plus amazing mobility with Staff and sustain.

In PvE my build has plus 40% damage for the Ranger, plus 45% for the pet, party wide buffs of 100%+ uptime on Fury, Regen, Vigor, Swiftness and Protection, 11-14 Might, +7.5% Damage, 30 burn ticks every 8s with 27% uptime on Quickness for yourself and the ability to stack 25 might on yourself and your pet for at least 30% of the time too.

I honestly don’t know what more could you want. A Ranger can take care of almost all the buffing required for a party, with some fire fields, the party will be at 25 might (or a revenant), then you just need a guard for Aegis and Retaliation and you are stacked. Everyone else can focus on DPS.

Actually, imo, WvW is the only place this trait has any use, because you can get the effect onto many people at once, not everyone is going to be hitting a different target ofc, but that is a lot of blinds outgoing.

My only suggestion for it is that the buff could steal health instead of healing.

Astral Wisp does not blind. Before the “rework” this GM trait only healed.
Same as the staff skill.

Better to have a trait that we can use in some scenarios than a trait is useless like now. 1 blind every 12 seconds is not like really something worth in place of any other GM traits, although the other traits are pretty useless as well in WvW

TBH, I prefer it as it is now. You can get the buff onto a lot of people, the 12s CD is per person, not global. Not only that, but the heal is pretty nice too. It is also not restricted by PBAoE around one person, you can buff a group of people with it now and they all get the heal and blind as long as they attack and they can be anywhere inside your heal radius. This is especially good with the Ranged meta in WVW at the moment.

My $0.02 anyway.

Bring Fused Weapons back to BL Specialist

Take a look at the Aetherised Weapons for starters. Once they started dropping in fractal boxes, the price crashed from 2200g to 88g on a Longbow skin. They should definitely add the skins back to the BL weapons specialists, ie open the back room.

Edit: Yeah, I bought mine for like 600g, so I was a bit peeved when I saw the price had come down so much, but I got over it. Same as when I crafted Arachnophobia for 250g worth of materials, then they added it to the Mad King chest the next day and it was 25g on the TP. Things change, people get over it.

There’s certainly no reason to not add them back.

Mats for Guild and Scribing Upgrades

TLDR; Create demand for worthless items with huge supply, rather than driving up the demand for items which already have healthy supply and demand.

Why would you think that John Smith et al haven’t already considered all of the high supply|low demand items?

And so what if they did? What is your point exactly? That they want there to be totally worthless items and materials and keep GH upgrades and scribing expensive? They already stated intention to reduce the cost of scribng. Even if they did, they can still set an amount on the useless items that creates a healthy demand and also keeps it expensive, not further increasing the demand of already in demand items and materials.
