Wait, NPCs can wear other cultural armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hermes.7014

Hermes.7014

It’s likely just to much work.
Changing human armour to other races is what they always do. They don’t change them that much and it often doesn’t look the best because of that.
Charr or Aura armor to human you couldn’t leave it basically the same since they don’t have gendered armour so you have to make a female version and head and feet likely would require redoing. Some Sylvari armour looks like its growing from them and incorporates skin colour. It would look really weird on another race.

It indeed would mean creating new armor models to adapt the sets to other races, but if that is considered too much work, then I don’t know what isn’t in a game that relies mostly on skins.
I just imagine that we’re going to be stuck with the same old armor sets, maybe with some fire particle effect added.

in spvp stats come from amulett and this you can change on the fly without paying anything

Wait, NPCs can wear other cultural armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hermes.7014

Hermes.7014

I doubt they’ll allow one day every race to wear every cultural armor. Mainly due to two things :
-Some sylvari cultural would look extremely weird on anything else, especially a Charr. Maybe it won’t bother some people, but the biggest problem is
-Asura and Charr do not have female versions. While it is not too bothersome for Asura, the T2 medium charr has an exposed torso. A bra could easily be added, but it’s still extra work. Then they also have to redesign the boots.

It would involve creating models that, as far as we know, may already exist, since we already have Human light T3 models for all races.
The Sylvari cultural problem could be turned into comething similar to Twilight Arbor’s armor set for other races. It would appear just like clothing made of plants.

Wait, NPCs can wear other cultural armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hermes.7014

At launch for a short period, all races could use all other races cultural. This was changed, can’t remember the reason.

Then that Flamekissed armor came out in the Gemstore – which if you didn’t know the Light armor was Human Light T3 reskinned to be “flamey” – this caused a gargantuan uproar. ArenaNet rightfully caved in and admitted their mistakes, removed & changed all existing armor to what it is today.

As to why I can’t go to an Asuran vendor and buy that awesome T3 for my Human Warrior is simply unanswerable though. If all races could use all races armor, there would be no crying anywhere. Those seeking “exclusivity” in an online community are foolish.

I’d like to know that reason, hence why I created this post. How can they justify lore-wise the fact that NPCs can wear cultural armor of other races while PCs cannot?

Today I was doing story missions with my Asura and noticed Councillor Flax undeniably wearing an Human T3 cultural armor set. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Councillor_Flax
If cultural armor is so reserved to their own races, why is this Asura wearing a Human T3 set? And of consequence, why aren’t PCs allowed too?

To end finisher gimmicks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hermes.7014

What I’m asking is for that type of skills to interrupt just finishers, not every skill, if that’s your concern. Finishing an enemy should require you to stay put in one place.
The way things are now, classes with shadowstep skills have an edge over others when finishing enemies in PvP/WvW.
All I’m asking for is balance.

Did you know that a full DPS-traited Mesmer with all phantasms up and doing everything he can provides as much damage as your meta axe-mace Warrior pushing 111111 on autoattack?

Yeah, it’s “balance” you’re asking for.

What’s that to do with anything?

I’d have termed it ‘counterplay’.

If that mechanic can completly negate the downed state (shadowstepping out of range), then it leaves no room for counterplay.

But it doesn’t completely negate the downed state, it just moves out of range of the downed player. The stomp can still be prevented & the downed player still has opportunity to get up.

If your opponent is out of your downed skill range a millisecond before you are stomped, how are you supposed to counter that?

Classes that can shadowstep stomp don’t have easy access to stability/invulnerability. If you want shadowstep stomps out, then remove stability stomps or invulnerability stomps. Which I think would be a stupid change if it were to come out.

Stability/Invulnerability stomps can be countered using a downed movement skill. Same goes for Stealth stomps.
However, shadowstep stomps leave no room for counterplay, like TheDaiBish said.

I honestly don’t know why this has never been brought up (or has it?), but let’s face it, we all know about those little tricks with shadowsteps to finish people the easy way (start the finisher animation -> hop away with shadowstep -> get back to opponent with another right when the animation is about to finish).
Arenanet, I ask you to make it so that all shadowstep type abilities break finisher casting. This is something that should have been fixed since the beginning.

Svanir Shaman music bugs

Since the bosses update with timers this boss’ music has been acting weird.
Victory music doesn’t play when the Shaman is defeated, but when the portal pre-event finishes.
Also, I don’t know if this happens only with custom soundtracks, but during the fight the boss playlist music often doesn’t play, and when it does it gets interrupted and normal battle music starts playing.
Was wondering why wasn’t this fixed already by the audio department since I know it’s been reported before.

I wish Arenanet would get rid of the repeated falling damage while sliding. That’s one of the most annoying aspects of GW2.

Fused Gauntlet Ticket & The Wardrobe

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hermes.7014

Yes, single use skins that can be used on multiple armor weights will be available for all armor weights in the wardrobe when that skin is unlocked. Feel free to use your ticket and get your gauntlets without worry of it being tied to a specific weight after the wardrobe goes live.

“Single items, such as the Fuzzy Hats and Scarlet’s Spaulders, will be unlocked for your entire account and usable with any armor weight.”

From the last paragraph of the “Collecting Weapon and Armor Skins” section of the wardrobe blog.

It’s different for the Fused Gauntlets. They were added before the rise of universal skins, and once you call the vendor you can choose only one type (light, medioum or heavy) of the skin.
I wish devs could convert unused Fused Gauntlet skins into universal skins as well.

My impression about this change is generally negative.

It seems like this system comes with its advantages but also disadvantages. For instance, we won’t be able to know in advance anything happening in other maps unless we have a guildie there and waypoint travel will cost approximately 40% more.

If I haven’t misunderstood the contents of the blog entry related to the Wardrobe system, all skins that have been bound to your characters in the past will be retroactively added to the wardrobe, so this means even long lost skins.

Now while this would be optimal, I can’t say I’m really sure about it as I might have misunterstood that bit of information. If anyone else can confirm this?
