when will we see changes to mastery system?

When will we see changes to the mastery system. Because I’m still unable to max out my Tyria masteries because I’m not doing personal story, or any old living story achievements. It’s been about a year and there has been plenty of feedback on this system. Will there by any changes made to allow for alternativeways to get core Tyria mastery points?

I didn’t read the entire thread, but I agree with OP’s original point.

I also thought i was a phenomenal player and could easily work my way to platinum. That didn’t happen though. I’m stuck in gold. Stuck because of my own ability and my own level of skill.

And I have seen lots of threads made of people commenting and feel they don’t belong in the division they are in. Fact is, if you didn’t belong there, you wouldn’t be there. That’s all there is to it.

Now I will be working on my own skills.
Everyone wanting to move up in tier should do the same, instead of hating the system, and placing the blame on their teammates.

Remember, worry about your own contribution to the team. Don’t worry about anyone else’s. Some teams may have some weak links, but the people on the other team also deal with that. It’s an issue for everyone. So it’s not a factor that you can blame a low mmr on.

War here, my feeling is that the class is top tier at dueling, but EASILY neutered in any team engagement. Thieves/necros/guards all bring the blind spam, I’ve been seeing a lot of weakness spam (from eles, I think?) lately too, those two conditions alone can shut down a warrior. Also war doesn’t have “invuln”, Endure Pain does nothing to stop condition damage and Resistance is corruptible/strippable.

In other words, in the current power-weighted meta warrior seems arbitrarily good. Bring the condi and the warriors are going to feel it… even as a dedicated longbow user (i.e. reliable cleansing ire usage) I find necros incredibly difficult. Then consider that the majority of warriors use mace/greatsword atm means they are that much more susceptible to condi when they inevtiably miss that F1 skill.

I bring plenty of boonstrip. Boonstrip is useless to remove resistance from a warrior because it pulses resistance. If you strip it, it will pulse again in 3 seconds applying more resistance. It pulses 4 times from what I understand. Pulsing boons is meant to counter boonstrip, so I guess it’s working as intended.

I think everyone hates the tons of passives that every class has, and warrior is probably the worst. The whole class is carried by passives/invulns and it really lacks counterplay besides just kiting, and the passives last long enough you are GUARANTEED to lose a cap if you do that.

I do agree with Rickster, I think they need to shave the range of GS berserk skill (450 range is slightly less than meteor shower) and increase the cast time. Currently the skill hits people that are so far away from the animation that you are left wondering “wth hit me” until you look at the combat log and are like “what?!?!” I would also increase the cast time on headbutt a bit. I know this would hurt most at higher levels of play, but every class needs more obvious tells on their big-hitting skills. Currently, the only class that really has a strong tell on its skills is ele, whose overloads are 4s cast time, and engie who doesn’t have too many instants. Even necros, its impossible to know which marks they are using or when they will swap weapons/shroud (which is where most of their burst comes from, and also lacks a cast time) unless you can predict their every move. At some point, gw2 became a game less about “reacting to animations” and more about “predicting which instant skill your opponent will use”

Warrior has basically always been a class with very strong sustain and high damage, but had the weakness of having more obvious tells. With the current incarnation, very important skills lack truly obvious tells. They also removed the weakness to kiting and blinds quite a bit by giving loads of resistance and stability so that, as a warrior, you can literally ignore everything an opponent can throw at you (physical damage, conditions, soft cc, hard cc) and just press your buttons to kill most players.

Very well said. I 100% agree with you and with OP.

i’ve gotten 6 ascended armor chests, and 3 ascended weapon chests from pvp boxes. But FAR more times i’ve gotten just junk. I think more options is always a good thing. I personally would choose to keep my boxes as they are for the tiny chance of getting good loot. But I think it’s fair if others are able to convert boxes to gold and give up their chance for loot.

Scrapper boon uptime

I haven’t seen any posts at all singling out Scrappers so I may be alone in this. I really think Scrappers need their boon generation nerfed. The high uptime on their boons: constant stability, regeneration, 20+ stacks of might, amont others makes the fight feel a bit unfair. I run a lot of boonstrip, but it’s pointless at the rate in which boons are generated.

What ruins pvp?

in PvP

Posted by: Hot Boy.7138

Hot Boy.7138

Imo, being good at too many things in the same build setup ruins pvp. For example, being able to gear as a bunker but keep up 25 stacks of might for high damage is unfair. Or gearing as a glass canon but having high damage mitigation/healing through incredibly high boon uptime is also unfair. Or playing a healer but having a pet that hits like a truck. These things make pvp less fun for me.

Lack of game modes ruins pvp also. I’m pretty sure the next map released will also be conquest…

Infrequent balance updates also ruins pvp. Having to wait 3 months to a change to a nerf or a buff that was clearly a bad decision is cringe worthy. And refusal to admit mistakes and revert changes that are no longer necessary.

Most of all, poor sportsmanship/toxicity ruins pvp. That is worse to me than anything else.

The CD in Chrono elite skill

Hot Boy.7138

I personally think moa is a cheap skill. I’ve never even put it on my bar for that reason. With that said, I think F5 is working as intended and it’s okay as it is. With future specializations, it’s possible less mesmers will be running Chrono trait line and won’t even have access to F5 anymore, and possibly not even moa. And I’m someone that never ever dodges moa. I honestly never see that animation because there’s so much going on. It is very hard to dodge. As someone pointed out earlier about it taking brains. I would never insult anyone by saying that. But it definitely takes very keen eyes just to spot that animation in the midst of the circus that is gw2 pvp. It’s a light show. But still, I don’t have complaints about it in regards to how Moa functions with F5. The skill itself is cheap. 3 minute or 1 minute cd, it’s just the nature of the skill to annoy you.

I would suggest it be given a more noticeable animation, instead of that little glow in hands.

Alright, so i found a guide online. It said to go to device managers and go to the view tab and select “show hidden devices”. When I did that, the gpu showed up under display. The guide said to uninstall it, restart the computer. So did that. It said to reinstall from there. I went to the AMD site and tried to reinstall. Automatic detection worked and it said all drivers were installed. But now the GPU doesn’t show up at all in the device manager menu under display even if I click “show hidden devices”.

I tried reseating it. The fan on it is spinning so I think it’s properly hooked up. And I think the slot is working because the fans are spinning. But I could be wrong.

My issue isn’t specific to GW2, but I figured I could get some help still.

My computer was running hot, so I took blew out the dust and applied a fresh layer of thermal paste between the cpu and the cpu fan. After I took out my GPU, radeon 6870, and blew out the dust and put it back in. Immediately I noticed upon boot up that the monitor wasn’t receiving a signal from the GPU, so I plugged it directly into the mother motherboard via HDMI.

I checked the device manager menu for the drivers under display and the only thing listed now is Intel 3000 integrated drivers. There are no drivers for my GPU. I didn’t uninstall them. I only plugged the GPU out and then plugged it back in.

I tried to install the drivers from AMD website and the automatic detection doesn’t support my hardware. I’m guessing because the 6870 is too old. So I found the specific drivers for my GPU on the same site, and when it gets to “installing components” in AMD catalyst program, it gets stuck. It will install forever without completing. And pressing the cancel button doesn’t do anything. I have to just restart the computer and try again.

I need some help, because I can’t play games without my GPU. Any advice on what to do next?

I wanted to add that I do have the original installation CD that game with the GPU, but it’s for windows 7 and I’m currently using windows 10.

TLDR: My computer isn’t detecting my GPU, radeon 6870, after i took it out of the computer to blow out the dust.

Hey Op. I agree with you on most of your points. All but the last one, but I don’t think you are wrong. What’s overpowered is usually a matter of perspective. Something may feel overpowered to me, but another person running another build may not think so at all. With that said, there is some merit in what some are calling overpowered. And I’m not at the top. I’m sitting comfortably in the middle and I can tell you that I do feel like some builds are definitely overpowered.

And bad sportsmanship is something I talk a lot about. And you will experience it in every bracket. As you probably already know, even in UNranked gameplay poor sportsmanship is an issue. There are some games I literally just turn off the entire chat because it is demoralizing. And if anything, it’s upsetting.

And the part about blaming new people or PvEers I agree with strongly. I hope everyone reads what I say in this paragraph. Spvp, and this game as a whole, will die without new players and people from other modes venturing into other game modes. New players and other people trying out new game modes is a great sign! It means it is growing. And that is good for the overall quality of the game. What ruins the overall quality of the game are people who treat new players or PvEers like kitten for wanting to join in. If anything, we should be encouraging bad players to play MORE, not play less, so they can improve. And no, they don’t have to go to unrank. And no they don’t have to go to custom games. They can go to any mode they choose cause they paid for this game like everyone else. And if they find themselves in ranked while still learning, the mmr system will placed them where they belong. That’s all there is to it. Be nice to the new guys. Spvp community getting larger and the game population getting bigger is a very good thing.

I highly doubt that players carry an entire team. That point of view is generally incorrect and somewhat arrogant. You need help to win a match in 5v5. You may contribute more than some of your members but chances are there are others on the team performing competently.

It only takes 1 or 2 unskilled players on a team to sink the match. It may feel as if the whole team stinks but it’s usually only one . Other times you have competent team mates but the team just doesn’t come up with a valid strategy and ends up disorganized or pushing too many points.

In the matches I’ve lost, it’s usually not because the other team was better, just that my team didn’t organize well. Got +1d in every fight, etc. but individually as players they were ok.

This ^. I couldn’t have said it better.

I don’t like the word “carry.” It implies the other 4 people on the team are practically NPCs. As if they just /sit while one person does all the work. A carry is no participation required by the the person(s) being carried. That’s never the case.

If you want to move up in ranks, I think a better way to put is to say you need to overperform at lower ranks. That’s all there is to it. And that should be easy if you truly are much better than the players in the lower ranks and belong in a higher rank.

Ya, they are not NPC. They don’t /sit. Ho! They are resource of enemy revival.

This is an incredibly ignorant comment…. On second thought I think you’re trying to prove your second point here.

No, if they cared about class balance then DH wouldn’t be able to oneshot you. Think that proves my point exactly, perfectly and irrevocably.

I honestly feel like DH are much easier to deal with since their traps don’t daze anymore. Before the last patch, I took felt like DH’s traps were way too strong and hard to counter on a tiiny point, but now i feel like it’s more manageable. And relatively fair to deal with.

Really? With 3 of them on the enemy team,1 pull and you can’t do anything. Not only that, but I play a necro so I don’t have access to invuls or blocks. How is that easy to deal with?

I realize that you are of course a superpro way better than any of us, but tell me. I have 2 dodges. I can dodge 2 pulls. Or I can dodge once I’m inside the traps. But when there’s 3… how do I survive that?

A couple weeks ago someone made a post about just making sword a condition weapon. I like sword as a power weapon. But I think a trait that made it a condition weapon would be cool. More options is always better.

Aside from the obvious damage buff it needs to be better, I would change the third attack. if the target doesn’t have a boon it does more damage. If the target has a boon, it will strip it and do a little less damage. I would make the difference in damage when a boon is stripped a heal. So whenever it strips a boon it also heals. But that should be a trait also. I think that would be a cool option. maybe make all boonstrips heal a little.

And if you would indulge me a little more. I’d actually make a trait so instead of boonstrip, the third attack transfers a condition. With a trait also, for options.

I’d honestly make scepter a melee weapon instead.

I would use scepter if it were anything but a scepter lmao. I only want to use blades: dagger, swords, greatswords. So if i could scepter skills on a sword i’d totally use and make a cool condi build.

I don’t want to derail this thread so to drive it back to the original point. The issue here is that most people who haven’t accepted their own limits as a PvPer are blaming their losses on the matchmaking system. Blaming their losses on their 4 other teammates. They think they are always the best player on their team and if they lose, it must be the other people’s faults. And they contribute nothing to their low rating, losses, losing streaks. Their contributions are only counted when they win. So the matchmaking system is flawed in their eyes. It’s grouping them with a bad team, after bad team, after bad team. Endless bad teams. The system is fine. Now there may be just a few people who are correct in thinking their losses are totally the result of getting matched with experienced players over and over again. But that is only valid if they haven’t done a lot of matches and were very unlucky in them. My advice to them, play many more matches. And if it’s always the same result, then it’s time to face reality. You may not be as good as you think you are.

And let me tell you. I think i’m a phenomenal player lol. I really do. But i’m hovering at 1450 to 1500. Clearly, that’s my limit as Pvper. OP has 3 separate accounts and all of which are at the same high level. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

I agree with OP. I didn’t read through the entire thread, but I agree with the initial post. So many people in pvp like to play the blame game for their loss. They want to play the blame game for their low rating and/or low tier rank. It’s time people look at their own contribution to the team and come to terms with their own level of skill. I lose a lot. I think to myself that I could have done this or that better. I think it’s time we people took responsibility for their losses. That sentence “you guys didn’t do this or that…” or “my team is full of r-word” in map chat when you lose mid in the first group fight is, imo, childish. It’s like a child who hasn’t learned sportsmanship and responsibility yet so he/she lashes out at the people they are on a team with. They think I could have won this point if I were with better players. But you have to acknowledge that you are on this team because you are a little more, or a little less, just as good as these people. The matchmaking system is working.

This community is much smaller than other pvp communities. I would like to sportsmanship be a thing in spvp. I really would like to see sportsmanship brought back to the term “gg” when you see it in team chat. And I think the first step is accepting that we contribute to our own losses, as well as wins. In any case, I like the mmr system and I trust it to place me where I belong. Whichever tier that may be.

Every loss I’ve had has a perfectly reasonable explanation, that doesn’t make it any less frustrating.

And honestly I think people that got lucky in placement that haven’t actually seen what it’s like to play below 1k should be telling others what it’s like.

I don’t understand why it’s so frustrating to some people. If it’s not your career, if your livelihood doesn’t depend on it. If you’re playing gw2 for fun, I really don’t get the frustration part. And ideally, with perfect mmr you should be losing half of all your matches. Win rate should be 50/50. Only one team can win. it’s either gonna be you or them. You win some, you lose some. That’s all there is to it.

Because it’s not fun… Is that really so hard to understand? Yes, I play games for fun. Losing games where there was nothing I could do to change the outcome is not fun. It is frustrating. I don’t really understand how you can not get that…

I really can’t. I think it’s funny honestly that there are people that genuinely feel like that. That is the epitome of being a sore loser and a poor sport. I understand why professional gamers feel frustrated and upset by a loss. It’s their career. Their money and reputation is at stake. But for the majority of players, it’s really just great character flaw. And I’m competitive. I do want to win and try my best to. And I get wanting to make it to the top of the ladder. I’d like to get up there also. But poor sportsmanship ruins good matches, in any game and sport.

That made no kind of sense at all. If you’re the kind of person that has so little going on that losing five games in a row because someone got kittened off and quit is fun then I sincerely hope you retain that feeling. Or never stop drinking.

For the rest of us. Us normal people I mean, losses are frustrating. It has nothing to do with sportsmanship, just because something is frustrating doesn’t mean you go act like a kid and throw a fit. You can be a good sport even if it’s frustrating. Unless you’re 8 years old of course.

So I think your giant character flaw is that you can’t seperate between being frustrated and acting out. For us adults they’re not mutually exclusive and I hope you learn that or you can easily end up destroying your life over nothing.

If you only have fun when you’re on the winning side, then yes you are a poor sport. If you feel there is no fun to be had in a match because you’re on the losing side, then yes you are a poor sport. Win or lose, someone who has a healthy sense of competition will enjoy a match. Someone who did not develop a healthy sense of competition, usually as a child, will be a sore loser. A sore loser is someone that expresses their frustration of not being on the winning team in a nasty way. It’s all in the manner in which you express yourself after you win and after you lose. And most of the time, in a lot of the matches I’m in, poor sportsmanship is expressed in a very nasty way. It’s obvious. Everyone here has seen it. It makes perfect sense.

I wanted to add some thoughts. With the daze removed from DH traps, they are far more manageable. They used to hard counter me as a memser, but I honestly feel like DH is in a good place right now. That daze was ridiculous.

I agree that ele and necro paired is a devastating combo. I fought the pair repeatedly for a point and it was total wreckage. I got totally rekt. But individually, I think they are both in good places. But of course that is probably just my perspective since I do run a lockdown build. I have plenty of interrupts and boon removal to deal with them. I can take a necro out fairly quickly, and the ele will be a much longer fight.

As melee, Druid roots will forever be annoying to me. But it’s not an issue I feel needs to be addressed by the devs. It’s just something I have to overcome by getting better and or running a build that is overall more efficient. I tend to go for fun over efficiency since I’m not a professional gamer.

Engineers are very hard for me to face 1v1. Lets forget about their massive boon output for now and just focus on one. Stability. Their access to stability makes it very hard for me to fight against them. Since landing interrupts is very hard with someone constantly pumping out stability, I feel pretty useless against them. Though, the fight is not impossible, it is challenging. Which is fair I guess. I don’t expect my build to be able to counter all builds.

Thieves actually do not give me an issue usually. But the ones that do are usually running d/p. If I get totally destroyed by a staff thief it’s usually because I wasn’t playing well at that moment or that thief was just much better player than me. With d/d condi thieves, it’s more about luck. I can’t cleanse condis without a target, and they dodge all my attempts at cleansing myself so I just wither and die slowly to conditions. So I just have to get lucky and hope a cleanse hits them at the brief moment they’re not in an evade frame.

I think revenants are in a good place right now. IMO, their nerfs were warranted. That staff surge was ridiculous since it could also be unblockable. Their damage is still competitive, it’s just not overwhelming burst like before.

I don’t know what to say about mesmers. They are just there doing their condi thing. They are difficult for me to fight because I use idisenchanter to cleanse. It’s my only cleanse. Their shatters, although intended for me, causes splash damage/condi to my illusions and they die. And there goes my cleanse. So it comes down to me having to decide if I should defend or aggressively attack.

Lastly warriors. And sophiewhite is my homeboy so he might be offended by this, but from my perspective, that class is overtuned. High uptime on stability so it’s difficult to lock them down. But if I do get some interrupts off, they have endure pain up. And my interrupts is supposed to immobilize them, but high ressitance uptime means they just ignore all my soft CC. I really can’t slow them down. And their berserker stance F1 skill vaporizes all clones in a large radius around them, and hitting me for half my health. Long stuns on relatively short CDs. Lots of passive healing. They just seem to have it all. My particular build and style of play is at a huge disadvantage against warriors. And the fight isn’t impossible. I can often win 1v1 if I play perfectly. But really one mistake and it’s over. And as I said before, they seem able to make many. It’s a very forgiving class. And I don’t have a lot of heals, so I just have to do my best to avoid all damage against a juggernaut class I can’t slow down. Condi builds are hard for me if I enter the fight unprepared. By unprepared i mean starting the fight without havng my idisenchanter up first and heal on CD. Cause my heal is used just for cleanses in that fight. And I could really use some practice 1v1ing a good warrior if anyone got some time to waste with me this weekend. I’ll appreciate it.

TLDR: fighting a warrior feels like I’m a regular guy trying to fight One Punch Man.

The worst ranked system ever devised.

haha I have seen much much worst, trust me this is not the worst ever made. That isn’t to say it’s great, but no this is not the worst ever made

I agree, so far I’m pretty satisfied with this system. The matchmaking is pretty good and the rewards are great.

Sadly, still no news. I’m very surprised at the slow progress of legendary equipment since this was a major selling point for the expansion. Maybe we’ll get some news during the January patch blog post. But seeing as I am still 120 legendary insights away from the needed amount, I won’t complain.

I think warrior has too much damage, survivability, healing, and CC. It’s an uphill battle for me. I feel as though I can’t make any mistakes or I’m dead, and it’s okay if they make many. I would suggest to the devs to take a good lock at certain warrior builds.

Please list what rank are you. It helps, the devs

Gold rank, lockdown mesmer sword/sword and sword/shield.

Make Ranked aviable on PVP rank >50 !!

I disagree with this completely. Their wins/losses will place them properly in the bracket they belong in. There’s no need to lock anyone out of ranked pvp until they are better.

their losses will also place better players they get matched with lower. it makes placement a dice roll.

That goes for everyone. Everyone’s win/losses will place them in the right bracket. Even people who consider themselves better won’t always be the better player on their team. Those better players will then feel like they’re being hindered. It’s just the way cookie crumbles. It’s better to worry about one’s own contribution than to worry about the rest of the groups contribution. No one will be the better player on every team they join, for many reasons. But over time, and over many matches, you’ll end up at the skill level bracket you belong in. I think the issue is that people want to play the blame game. “You guys didn’t do this or that.” Instead of saying, “We could have done this different or better.” These same people don’t want to play with the people they think they can blame their losses on. But then, you will be a reason for someone to blame a loss on you.

nerfing Echo of Memory is a bad move

Chronomancer have too much damage negation. This is not healthy.
On top of that, we have decent sustain, partly thanks to RI. On the other hand, we have very little reset potential compare to most classes (what I mean by that is that we cannot heal 80% of our total HP pool in a few seconds like DH, druid, scrappers, etc…).

Mesmer does not shine by its damage pressure (abysmal in power, decent but comparatively not insane in condi). It is really our survivability which is the problem. So nerfing condis like some suggest is a bad idea (though I think the application need to be less spammy, maybe apply condi only on F1 and/or F2, not all 4/5). Nerfing our survivability and boosting our sustained power damage (over all game modes) would have been the best I believe. On top of that, better condi cleanse not-inspiration dependent would have gone a long way. Instead we have a patch which does not significantly improves build diversity, though chronomancer and inspiration became a bit less mandatory which is a (baby) step in the right direction.

I agree with you that survivability should be toned down some. I don’t run inspiration trait line, but I think people will continue to use it. The heal was really the secondary reason for using it. Even without a heal, just being able to remove a condition for each shatter is a very nice trait to have in pvp. So I really don’t think these changes are a step in the right direction. But I do agree that Anet considering survivability and not just damage is a good thing for balancing condi mesmer.

I don’t quite get the suggestions, but this change is unneeded especially after already nerfing Restorative Illusions.

If they are going to do this, then the phantasm should be guaranteed even if canceled.

My suggestion was to nerf the condition weapons’ survivability skills directly by extending the cd of staff 2 and scepter 2, instead of nerfing the cd of a weapon that even power builds use. If the issue is not with power builds, doesn’t make sense to me to nerf a skill on shield since both condi and power builds will be affected by this.

But I like your idea of having the phantasm be guaranteed even if we cancel the block midway. Hopefully devs will make note of that and give it some consideration.

How we actually blink, pure beauty.
