GW2 is a themepark MMO. Despite the community wanting a lot of things, Arenanet really doesn’t care that much unless it’s on their agenda. They are very afraid for things that they can’t control. Let’s take one thing for example that a lot of people want. A death match/GvG environment. Many WvW guilds like GvG and many PvP players aren’t fan of conquest. In fact, many of my guild (we recruited pre-launch) left the game early on with that as main reason. Now, it’s NOT that hard to satisfy these players but Arenanet refuses to. First of all, all these players will split up. Less serious guilds in WvW and the currently still small (imo) sPvP community will also split. I get it, but do you rather have that people leave the game?

Btw, how hard can it be?

Add a few new maps without conquest points. Simple maps with a few hills and chokepoints of course. Let a round end when all enemies on one side are dead. (Can be an arena host option)

Give Arena hoster the ability to choose teamsize (5v5 for death match and 20v20 for GvG or just death match madness, haha!). Maybe a way for Arena hosters to toggle food buffs as well?

Work with multiple rounds. It’s obvious that the game is not built for long battles like in GW1. This is NOT a problem! Looking at the GvG Meta, there truly are guilds out there that can clash/fight for more than 5 minutes because of healing fields, banner usage and such. It’s quite amazing. But sure, most fights will take a short time. Like i said, work with rounds! Best of 5? It works for the GvG community!

So what IS the problem? I’m starting to understand it’s pure business. Arenanet wants to control exactly how this game is and what type of game modes are present. They like the GvG idea but there are still kittening boars in the area, rallying people accidentally and the new orb (while im excited about it) might ruin GvG even more. How hard can it be to just remove the kittening boars? Seriously, iteration right?? right?

This MMO is a themepark. Don’t expect much freedom. That way, you won’t be dissapointed! That’s what i have learned this past year.

Oh, i love this game. I’m just being critical, that’s all.

WvW lag again?

This is highly frustrating. We have extreme lag, disconnects and such in every map (We are Gandara) and it has nothing to do with zergs etc. The maps were pretty much empty and we only encountered small enemy groups.

For a WvW guild like mine it’s really annoying because this is the second guild ops we had to cancel this week. >.<

Ok, before you freak out! I’m just using those names so we understand each other. With this post i’m trying to explain how easy it is to implement unused archetypes in GW2 with the existing weapons and such. So, what type of archetypes are people interested in? The ones i hear the most about are druids, death knights and monks but there are probably more themes out there!

Weapons > new professions. It’s a lot easyer and makes everything less complicated. For example. To make a druid, we only have to give the ranger a staff. To make a death knight, we only have to give the necro a greatsword. To make a monk, we only need to give the thief a staff. So that’s the basic idea, but i decided to work the druid and death knight theme out a little bit more (just wild ideas!). Here we go:

Staff ranger skills will focus on support and AoE (something they lack!)

1) Spirit Wave. Hit up to 5 enemies with a wave of spirit energy!
2) Root. You immobilze enemies in target area for X seconds (ground target)
3) Spiritual Guidance. Recieve vigor. Your pet’s next attack will cause knockdown.
4) Splintered Bark. You give protection and retaliation to nearby allies for X seconds.
5) Healing tree. You give regeneration to allies in the target area for X seconds (ground target)

Greatsword necro skills will focus on damage and self support

1) Cleave 3-hit combo that inflicts cripple and weakness with every third hit.
2) Reaping Strike. Steal up to 2 boons from your enemies.
3. Wrath of the undead. Smash your sword in the ground to inflict AoE bleeding, poison and chill.
4. Agonizing Cry. Fear nearby enemies for 1 second and recieve might and fury.
5. Armor of Darkness. Recieve protection and 25% life force.

Order of updates?

Why? Because WvW has different type of players as well. Shock! I know! Some enjoy solo roaming, some enjoy scouting, some enjoy trebbing all day, some enjoy zerging with a commander, and some like to raid with a guild for good fights. Are all these players getting enough attention? No, i don’t believe so!

Will these small content pushes keep us all interested or will we slowly burn out? I believe the latter. I believe bigger content pushes are needed to keep us interested. And this is not something Devon can fix alone. We know he wants to improve this format, but he simply needs the time and tools. This is something Arenanet has to allow as company.

- Looking quick at the future. We will recieve an achievement overhaul. Great! Better late then never but, it’s defy not going to be a gamechanger. It won’t make people return. While it looks like a hard thing to change for Anet (i’m not sure why), it’s not going to do much. I suggest that this is not your first priority!

- We will recieve iteration in the borderlands map. Awesome! It’s time to get that lake out of the way and see an interesting mechanic return. Will it encourage people to keep playing or even return? Possibly! But it really depends on how daring Anet is willing to be. Make a big change! Excite us! It’s not a new map but make it more than we expect! This has and should have priority. Can’t wait!

Here is the order of things i suggest but i’m very much interested in what the other players have to say.

1 – Bigger iteration on current maps

Decent sized additions and fixes that bring a fresh air in WvW. New mechanics, new map themes with the old layout, improvements in the layout etc. Things that do not take ages to design tho!

2 – Encourage different playstyles but keep others in check!

Simply put. Reward guilds for their supply spent/kills in a week with a ranking perhaps? Skill lag is not fun and neither is mindless zerging. Discourage this behaviour with the use of traps, lower downed health maybe? Why are there almost no PvP centric skill lines?

3 – Iteration on rewards
Why does PvE have exclusive skins, backpieces and such? WvW could do with exclusive rewards. The WvW armors and weapons are NOT popular/common. They are ugly and i have over 8k badges atm. And yeah, i have more than enough siege. We get currency as rewards, but we can’t use it on nice things. This can’t be too hard to implement right? PvE recieves new skins atleast once a month… Come on, when is it our turn again? Exclusivity isn’t the biggest evil in the world… Rewards for winning a server matchup. Let’s bring it on! I’m part of a raiding guild and while we cared about our server ranking at first, we really don’t anymore. Like.. not at all. We used to stay up late and protect towers for example. Now we only take an objective if we want to lure enemy players to our location for fights.. I want to have a reason to take it serious again.

4 – New map(s)!

I know it sounds like a daunting task but a new map(s) is eventually needed imo. When everything is polished, rewards are fine, every type of players is having a good time, new content needs to be added. I understand that it’s a lot of worth but it can be done. And a new map could be a new EB that switched with EB bi-weekly or a totally new map that only opens up at random times! Get creative, bring us some new and exciting!

Obviously, this is the order i would like to see but if there are other things that need priority or are missed. Please speak up!

tldr; Will the living world approach make it too hard for Arenanet to add interesting and big content additions to WvW before people burn out and quit because of staleness? We gotta see exciting new content mroe often! Can you deliver Anet?

Inspired by a thread from the sPvP section, i decided to make this thread.

We as players have tons of ideas, suggestions and such that we want to see in WvW. Some are bad, some are decent and some are super awesome. unforunately, Arenanet can’t make/try/experiment everything. They have to make decisions.

But to be honest, i’m wondering if the size and order of content updates is going in the right direction. And i feel that the living world approach is problematic.

The idea is that we get new content bi-weekly. For PvE this seems to be ton of content and casual players can barely get through the amount of new achievements in time!

sPvP seems to be getting a lot more popular (a lot of full rooms and short queues for tournies) because of decent sized updates. That said, there is a lack of love in sPvP as well. ;o

But WvW. Obviously, the first year was ment to polish WvW. While we still have skill lag, culling is gone, most exploitable mountains and such are gone and we have seen quite some quality of life improvements. We also recieved a new rank system (which doesn’t interest me that much to be honest) and other small things like a NPC commander that helps out and such.

But the whole experience in WvW, hasn’t changed. And i think that this is a problem if it continues. It feels EXTREMELY stale. And small content updates, won’t magically change this. People will simply burn out SLOWLY. Oh look, another skill line and some profession balances! Are you sure you don’t wanna play another week or so? Just to try it out eh? You step into a map and everything feels the same however.

You either care about pts and scout a bit or zerg around with a commander, causing skill lag while taking objecties. Or you are a hardcore raiding guild that doesn’t care about pts and wonders what to do in a map where everyone hides behind siege. Guess we do some GvG eh?

Let’s compare the formats (roughly):

PvE updates:
+ Every type of player seems satisfied!
+ Big content additions! Often include new maps, achievements, skins, lore and more!
- Achievements are used as carrot it seems (?)

PvP updates:
+ Everyone is getting more and more satisfied. Hotjoin, SoloQ and Team Arena.
+ Decent sized content pushes. New maps, mechanics and polish in general.
- Achievements and glory rewards are still a bit lame.

Now, to WvW!
+/- General polish seems decent but where is the map iteration? Why can we still shoot trebshots from objective to objective? Why are the centaur/skritt camps still there? Why are such big portions of the maps unused?
- Updates cater a lot more to casual players than hardcore players. (guilds recieve no love, mindless zerging is encouraged,)
- Small content additions (no new maps, no new skins, no exclusive things, almost no new mechanics) Heck, we even had a mechanic removed!
- Despite a decent rank system, the actual achievement/title system is pathetic and has been since launch.

So yeah, let’s compare the extremes. PvE players have more than enough to do every two weeks with JUST the new content while WvW players have to look at another WXP rank that they don’t have the pts for. And on top of that, i doubt that most people care about these new rank lines that much. They are such small additions that nobody is amazed, or excited. We don’t feel different after a content update. Yeah, i spent 5 seconds looking at the new skill line and what it does. But no, i’m not amazed. My WvW guild has an entire different roster than it had at launch. None of the updates made older members return. The game feels the same to them and the reason that they left has not been fixed/changed.

It’s badly designed. The game is about cooperation, yet this new content forces you to wait if more people are present. People who farm or don’t want to wait won’tres you, simple as that. Do not only blame the players. It’s also bad design.

I agree with Jackie here. I haven’t played TOP GW1 PvP because it required so much practice and it was so complex. you truly needed a lot of time investment. One of the best PvP games ever.

In GW2 i’m enjoying spvp and GvG the most. sPvP MIGHT get somewhere in the future, but even that is still doubtful. If even I have reached top 150 (eu) in this game, something is amiss! ;o

GvG however, will never become more than a small community thing, and we shouldn’t feel bad about that. It’s just not as complex as some might think. I hope to have GvG’s every week because i really enjoy it but i’m not oblivious to the facts. It’s fun and something that WvW guilds really enjoy. Making a new map or format for these guilds will only interfere with the WvW playerbase, something that Anet probably doesn’t want.

And Ogre, the way you talk about GW1 GvG could be considered ignorant. As much as i love your videos, you shouldn’t talk like that about one of the most complex and interesting PvP formats in the MMO world.

Mystic Coins

It’s really not. For an item that you can easily get once a day, it’s really weird to see such a small use imo. I get that there is a decent sized list, but nobody crafts something out of that list often enough. We are talking mainly weapon recipes anyways.

I’m wondering why we still recieve so many of them. Almost everyone recieves 1 a day.

The amount of recipes that use them is pretty small.

Can we expect to see more use of Mystic Coins in the future?

There is still a vendor in WvW for example who has a tab with disabled content and he would accept Mystic Coins (afaik). He has been there since launch or something.

People don’t realise that Anet rewards the blob mentality. Which is weird coz it is very boring (skill 1 spam jeej) and causes skill lag.

Been roaming in an organised guild pretty much since launch and it’s immense fun but when 80+ blobs are being effective in a game, there is only so much you can do with 20 guildies. We like a challenge, but we dont like skill lag and unbeatable numbers.

Disencouraging blobs with updates (nerf downed health for example in WvW) might change the whole landscape a bit. Blobs might be less effective, people blob less, WvW becomes more fun, skill full and less laggy.

I don’t get what is wrong with this. We need more PvP and less siege!

It’s even more amazing that some people are happy with some of these changes. Like, supply mastery really? A PvE player recieves new content and LOW LEVELS even get upscaled to play the content.

What do we get in WvW? Content that is not interesting, No new maps, no new mechanics etc. and especially for the hardcore playerbase who enjoys roaming and on top of that, you can’t even access it easily. You need rank pts for it which can take a week. Yeah sure, we can save the pts but they keep adding lines so even that is pointless. It’s just weird and i’m not understanding it from a design perspective..

Like, what is Arenanet trying to achieve with WvW? If they keep pushing siege warfare (making them tradable was not smart imo) will eventually cause a lot of raiding guilds to quit.

Oh, what baffles me the most is the dude who is happy with the fact that we can store our 10k+ useless tokens now. Omg, i got so many useless tokens, but i can store them now, this update is great, can’t you see?

You have TOO many USELESS badges and you don’t even realise that the problem is not storage, but the tokens itself.

The build is viable and decent. Nothing more. Facing heavy condi teams will still wreck warriors. No matter the amount of anti condi traits, skills and runes.

5 Ability Line Ideas! [My Suggestions]

Some good insight here. The reason i went for upleveled charakters is because they are part of the problem. A blob is a wxp train, so people will level their toons by blobbing up. Punishing them a bit is not that harsh, considering that they are alrdy “useless” in fights. They are great for running supply, using utility skills, reviving, manning siege etc. tho. On top of that, i think 10% is not THAT much, considering that upscales die very fast anyways. But if most people are against it, any other good ideas that might give organised guilds a boost?

Lanimal, you have some good ideas. Defy think anti-siege could be added to siege bunker. Inspiring Hero would be a niche line, and let’s face it. Anet doesn’t shy away from making niche lines. Mortar, cannon and burning oil mastery are good examples of that. But yeah, it’s not a very clear line. It’s kinda “weird” i guess.

While Ravager looks a bit messy, i think it could be very helpfull. But maybe, more themed like you say.

Ravager:

- +5% damage against downed enemies.
- 5% less AoE damage.
- +10% damage against downed enemies.
- 5% less AoE damage.
- + 10% damage against downed enemies.

Then anti-siege damage with normal weapons can be added to siege bunker and the upscale punisher can be removed i guess.

5 Ability Line Ideas! [My Suggestions]

Hello everyone,

It seems that Anet likes their Ability Lines and is currently building WvW content this way. Although interesting, the content additions do not add a lot to WvW and do not fix any of the bigger problems. With my ability line suggestions i try to work on punishing blobs and rewarding organised guilds a bit more.

Because we have to remember that there are two kind of WvW players. The ones that live for siege, defense, world pts etc. and the ones that love to fight in the open field. So far, there has not been any love for the latter. I bet we will see ram, treb or golem mastery (lol) before seeing fixes to actual problems.

With the help of new skill lines, we can start working on the blob issue (for example). Of course, there are tons of great ideas to fix the big issues in WvW but because Anet is adding content this way, i’ll try to provide solutions this way as well. Here are my ability line ideas, with argumentation. Feedback is always welcome.

All names and pts are placeholders of course.

Ravager

This line is dedicated to field combat and will help organised groups/guilds to deal with skill-less and mindless blobs. Also a bit helpful for destroying enemy siege without building counter-siege.

Destroyer – You deal 25% more damage to siege weapons with normal attacks. [5 pts]
Punisher – You deal 10% extra damage to upscaled players. [10 pts]
Focused – You recieve 10% less damage from AoE attacks. [20 pts]
Finisher – You deal 25% more damage against downed enemies. [40 pts]

The line above should give organised groups a small boost. Blobs tend to run with a lot of upscales. A big problem when fighting big blobs is that there are 20 downed enemies on the ground but you can’t manage to finish them because you got 30 other enemies chasing your small groups. While the AoE limit punishes both blobs and organised groups, i believe that AoE spam (fire and forget) is way too effective in blob play. smaller groups just get demolished. This ability line also helps with that.

Charismatic

This line will lure casual and PvE focused players. The line will encourage usefull play in WvW.

Karmatastic – You recieve double karma for escorting and killing Dolyaks. [5 pts]
Investor – Camp, tower and keep upgrades cost you 15% less gold. [10 pts]
Pillager – You recieve 25% more gold for capturing camps and sentries. [ 15 pts]
Treasure Seeker – You recieve a big Magic Find boost in WvW [ 30 pts]

Encourages Dolyak escorting and killing, upgrade buying and camp/sentry capturing. Lots of people might invest in this line to get the MF boost. In the meantime they might do more of these useful things in WvW, giving less attention to allied blobs as well, hopefully.

Note: Reduce centaur, krait and other monster population. They are annoying and might attract farmers with this new ability line, heh.

Note 2: I still have my doubts about this ability line but it might give good discussion.

Inspiring Hero

This line will encourage solo play and reward those who already do.

Savior – Ressurecting a Supervisor, tower or keep lord) will give them Righteous Indignation for 10 seconds. [5 pts]
Sharpened Spears – Damage of nearby mercenaries is buffed by 10% in your presence. (non-stackable) [10 pts]
Protector – Camp NPC’s have 25% increased HP in your presence (non-stackable) [20 pts]
Leader of the pack – A mercenary will follow you arround. [35 pts]

Allows people who play alone or who are outmanned in the mornings, to be more effective arround small-scale objectives. Interracting with an allied mercenary leader, will spawn a mercenary at your side who follows you around till he dies. Despawns after 1 hours, which is also the cooldown before you can aquire another mercenary.

Dolyak Mastery

This line will encourage more play around Dolyaks and supply control.

Dolyak Slayer – Deal 5% more damage against enemy Dolyaks [5 pts]
Dolyak Defender – Dolyaks in your presence (900 radius) have 25% increased HP. [10 pts] (non-stackable)
Dolyak Destroyer – Deal 5% more damage against enemy Dolyaks [20 pts]
Hidden Supplies – Always recieve 10 supply when killing a Dolyak. [40 pts]

Speaks for itselfs

Trap Mastery

While having only 2 traps available doesn’t really justify having a ability line dedicated to them, i hope to see more traps in the future. Especially one that can punish blobs in some sort of way,

- Fast Fingers – Place traps twice as fast. [5 pts]
- Throw Traps – Traps are ground targeted (900 range) [10 pts]

Really liking mace/shield + GS build atm. The amount of people who sit through skull crack coz they popped a stunbreaker too soon or simply think it be over soon is amazing. Can easily get a lot of Hundred Blades in. That said, I DO NOT FEEL OP. Not at all. We just have a viable/decent option now.

There was a day that me and one other person were racing for the first place, every single round. It was me or him who won. So after ~5 rounds or so, we decided to wait infront of the finish (who first arrives there wins) and let 3 other players get in the top 3. It worked well, even tho they didn’t really deserve it, hehe.

I don’t really care a lot about this match up tbh. It’s hard to find roaming guilds. A lot of blobs and point focused players from Kodash side, which doesn’t interest me too much.

Or maybe a 2h axe fully made out of diamond. It reflects light and stuff like that and is a bit transparant. That would be ace as well.

Hammer for sure my number 1 favourite.

Good damage, weakness, cripple, knockbacks, knockdown and a stun that you can use every 7.5 seconds with Burst Mastery trait. Hammer has recieved buffs every patch so far, i really can’t complain. Been using it pretty much since launch.

Also a huge fan of the sword main hand.

Mobility, cripples and now a decent damage attack.

Loving warhorn as well of course!

Party swiftness, condi removal, weakness, vigor and a blast finisher.

We gave Abaddon and Miller a lesson in blobbing tonight on EB. 0 wipes for hours until the golem finale, which failed, haha.

1. Apparently you also get the effect but you only get the buff in combat so make sure to test it while in combat!
2. I’m pretty (99%) sure it doesn’t stack but i could be wrong.
3. I haven’t tested it yet. Maybe only the buff icon is wrong.

I’m using hammer and sword/warhorn in WvW so my build defy got buffed, like most patches!

Fear Me is back on my bar. Sword is pretty neat but hoenstly, not sure yet. Needs more testing. Hammer is smoother and Balanced Stance has recieved a small buff, a skill i always use. Might drop healing shouts and get burst mastery + mroe crit damage and burst cd reduction. Loving the discipline line tbh.

I totally agree. Heck! I quit spvp because i had to bring my thief all the time instead of my warrior. But i’m just saying that for my organsised WvW guild, a warrior can’t complain.

As for spvp. I do believe that there will be some new builds soon. Like hammer frenzy kick build omg op!! >.< We see. Give it some time.

Those that say Gandara (or even Millers sometimes!) is a TRUE blob server, must be totally oblivious to the meta in the higher tiers.

Yes, we might look like blobby servers because you are used to playing against lower tiered servers but in our tier, Gandara is known for having a lot of warband guilds and we are proud of that.

Just keep in mind that those warband guilds play mostly in the evenings and during the day, the playstyle is different.

Went 4/5 AC again. Did take a good look at the others again but i needed 115 pts for the awesome defense guard effect and that would take me a long time so yeah. Not planning to max AC tho. 5/5 is pretty bad imo.

Thinking the same Setun. I’m also running Signet Mastery so having a mini-heal every 12 seconds is really nice. I also use compote food/resto sigil and healing shouts the heals i get ever now and then might make me really survivable.

Makes sense. Ty for the answer. Looking at the leaked patch notes. With the new weakness i will probably stick to warhorn but Whirling Axe is also recieving a pretty nice damage buff so that might be really deadly if you run a few of those in the guild.

And hammer getting more buffs. Muhaha! Loyal to the hammer!

Regarding sigils. I have been using bloodlust and switching to Restoration at 25 stacks. I’m also using compote food so i get 1500+ health back per kill. Now, if you do it right as a guild, you will get plenty of kills in a fight. It’s a really nice food/sigil combo, as long as you keep killing peeps. Thoughts?

As someone who has been running a semi-tanky hammer shout warrior pretty much since launch, how do you feel the GS compares to sword/warhorn? Most of our warriors run sword/warhorn these days. A few run axe or shield in off-hand and only one person runs a GS. The new blast finisher on warhorn 5 is awesome as well. With sword leap you can also go through veils to get chaos armor before slamming into enemy groups.

I’m mainly talking about running with 15-25 and trying to bust blobs.

Sorry cant see enemy names. When you took Woodhaven, you cata the side wall, i was with my engi there. some RL got into it, and I see that you are in.So I run, but was stuck under lords. Few from attackers come to me, and looked at me for aprox 5-10 sec, because i was not moving, doing anything (runing back to my pc).
When I got to my pc, i just use shield to push you guys away, and jumped of the cliff.
And then 2 guys followed me. One was from from your guild, and he started jumping on my corpse down there. He lived the fall because of trait, i think warrior was that.
Then second attacker fell down and he died, so your mate stops jumping ressed him, and when i get back to my keyboard they both was gone.

I accept you apologie, hopefully no bad blood will be from this and we can be respectfully oponents.

I remember that moment and also know who jumped down. But honestly, i think you should calm down. In Dius we do not encourage such behaviour but if it happens by accident/mistake/drunkness/whatever, so what? It’s not exactly the end of the world, is it?

I’m pretty sure that most WvW guilds have a lot of players who venture in Tpvp from time to time. I know it’s the case for our guild. That said, the two PvP formats are so different from each other that it really doesn’t matter that much. Zerg busting is very different than small scale fighting.

A good Tpvp player will defy be a great roamer tho.

Some amazing fights. The teamwork of small roaming guilds like Dius, XxX and Judge resulted in victorious battles for Gandara. Throw the blobs at us. Just remember that the combined power of organised roaming guilds will crush you, over and over.

Our leader started to sound like Sacrx in the heat of battle ffs! ;O Breathe…

sPvP and duels in WvW, sure yeah. But WvW in general, na ah!! My warrior is brutal. 2.2k toughness, 26k HP, 50% crit chance with fury, 40 crit damage and 2k+ power. Crazy buffs and mobility with sword/warhorn + huge CC power with the hammer. Using healing shouts. fear me, shake it off and balanced stance. Soldier runes and conditions are a thing of the past. Using food that heals me on killing enemies, which happens A LOT if i run with my guild. Getting bloodlust stacks and then switching to hammer with restoration sigil, bumping my heal on a kill to 1600 HP without a cooldown. I can pretty much keep on trucking with this build.

Almost every serious roaming guild in WvW uses hammer warriors in the frontline. Stop thinking berserker is the only way to go. Berserker is one of the worst options in WvW, for ANY class. Sure, solo’ing and duelling people for fun can be decent but seriously, the warrior has a good place in WvW and PvE.

The major problem is sPvP. It’s so bad that i’m currently not playing sPvP anymore. When that is fixed, they can look at adding more options/builds/traits for warriors in all the formats again. I agree that they need more survivability. High passive stats doesn’t work in this game.
