I’m never doing zergfights, but i would be using GS for it. Even iBerserker is good for 1 attack and won’t miss when put in the middle of the enemy zerg even in it’s currently bugged state.
Second weapon set would most likely being sword + focus. Blurred Frenzy is actually quite good but you should keep Blink or F4 ready for retreating after you become vulnerable again ^^

I’m actually leveling an engi at this moment. Properly played, that class is a nightmare to about every other class you will encounter in WvW. Between shield, tool kit and elixirs, there are just so many ways to survive while also providing yourself with perma-swiftness (maybe THE main reason for me to prefer engi to a mesmer) and -vigor.

In a downed fight vs any class at around the same downed hp you will lose.
Looks like someone should try to get some clones/phantasms out before getting downed…
/edit: nvm, you meant engi…but my argument still holds it value. Our downedstate can’t be as op as ele’s is currently because our illusions keep on fighting until we die and are actually able to put out a lot of damage while the opponent effectively immobilizes himself by trying to stomp us.

I’m actually feeling a bit sorry for Whiteside Ridge and Blacktide. After several weeks of zergy fights against GH and RoS, most Dzagonur player most likely will enjoy this matchup and our fair weather players will be coming out of PvE.
I try my best to only do solo are small scale (<= 5) roaming and looking forward to some good fights. It has already been a few weeks since my last time against blacktide but i actually can remember to be fighting some good players there. Can’t remember any guild tags though…

I’m okay with our downed skills…#2 stops a stomp 100% of the time if not used too early and if theres nobody nearby to ress you, you are dead anyway after getting downed.
Also remember that your clones and phantasms are still fighting while you are downed.

I give you a good advise for fighting phantasm mesmers: Walk away. Those builds mostly got not a single source of swiftness and since mesmers also got no signet for +25% movement speed, they are basically only strong for as long as you stay near them.
I’m not a sPvP player but in WvW roaming, mobility is king and phantasm mesmers are severely lacking at this point.

The items available depend on the level of your current char, so if you are not level 80, you won’t be able to see or buy lvl 80 exotics.

The blast finisher portion of this skill actually activates twice, one immediately when the Wurm Dies, and one when the player arrives at the wurm’s location. Multiple applications of boons or conditions from these blast finishers don’t stack with each other, it just refreshes the duration.
Chaos armor also doesn’t stack and just refreshes every time the combo is pulled of (which is only fair, wouldn’t want to imagine a full zerg stacked with perma-chaos armor).
So my idea was to just change combo stealth to not stack but instead to refresh the stealth duration. This would change nothing about the thief class except for D/P perma-stealthing and smoke field + SB perma-stealthing, which are basically the only points people are complaining about.

Just change it to be based on the amount of damage the keep/tower already got. Let’s say the waypoint gets contested if a wall/door has been damaged by ~1-2% (numbers to be adjusted, has to be low enough to give defenders enough time to arrive). But, in exchange to this, the event never stops until all walls/doors have been fixed up to this point. This will also stop zergs being able to port in between defense events.
Also, they have to get rid of that stupid 30s timer before an objective is marked as contested <.<
/edit: Also needed: Make doors completely immune against every damage not done by siege and limit the amount of golems per map per server to 5. (On further thought…just making doors immune against player damage could be enough).

3) Those traits are very strong in 1v1 as it’s easy to quickly stack 25 vulnerability on your enemy. However, i’m rarely investing any points in Domination so i can’t say much here.
4) Haven’t been using the torch since they nerfed confusion…
5) Don’t have that problem very often tbh…however, sword #3 tends to get stuck at a blade of grass.
6) Scepter is actually a very strong weapon. In power builds, the auto attacks often crits for over 1.5k and #3 channels for 3k damage over it’s whole duration. Condition build highly profit from the clone spamming #1 does in combination with “on clone death”-traits.

9) I never used any mantras beside the cleansing one until now…

While mesmers are generally good at avoiding damage, certain skills like Staff #2 and Blink cause them to move in odd patterns which lead to your zerg getting disoriented.
I would advise picking a durable char like warrior or guardian that is able to charge right into the enemy zerg. BM ranger could be viable as well since they are very hard to kill.

I could imagine using Staff + GS in a condition build, mainly using Rabid gear.
GS auto-attack tends to do a lot of hits and could be used with Sharper images to quickly apply lots of bleeding.

Maybe not bannable, but it is an exploit after all. That ele could be there all day long, seeing every player and parked golems in the citadel (although it’s up to debate if golems in safe zones isn’t also exploiting) and report to his/her commander.
/edit: And no, he won’t be kicked after 15 mins of inactivity. There are ways to prevent this that also lead to dead mesmers behind gates that bind whole groups for as long as they want.

Staff 2, sword 2, sword 4, scepter 2 and f4 can all be used to avoid or mitigate the burst.
As a mesmer i can tell you: They can’t. You never know, when exactly a thief will backstab you, and the moment he does it’s too late to react. The best thing i can do is to spam these skills while the thief waits in stealth /point’ing and /laugh’ing at me and bursting me afterwards.
That said, i’m totally fine with most of the thief. This morning i fought a S/D thief who managed to nearly permastun me and won. He truly deserved that win. D/P stealth spam is basically the only unbalanced thief build currently.

I play all classes, and I was using S/D Thief earlier today. Warrior needs a huge buff, Necromancer needs bug fixes, Thief needs precision nerfing/fixes, Mesmer needs nerfs/buffs, Elementalist needs buffs, Engineer needs nerfs/buffs, Ranger needs a huge nerf, and Guardian is fine.
To give my personal opinion about that:
- Warrior: Might need a buff to encourage build diversity but needs damage reasonably toned down in exchange.
- Necromancer: Might need some escape mechanism and, for sure, bug fixes.
- Thief: I say D/P stealth spamming needs a nerf but otherwise they are fine.
- Mesmer: Scepter needs some love and maybe something to not be useless in large scale battles. /edit: + bug fixes for sure.
- Elementalist: D/D is fine i think, S/D could get some love and staff needs a little AoE nerf + more options to fight on it’s own and in smaller scale.
- Engineer: Can’t say much about them…they are lacking build diversity so something could need to be done here.
- Ranger: Absolutely need a healing nerf (sorry guys, but BM builds are nearly impossible to kill)
- Guardian: Scepter autoattack needs a speed buff but otherwise fine.

You can’t just call for nerf just because you’re so pro, not everyone is.
And they don’t need to. Playing D/P basically boils down to:
1) Stack a crazy amount of stealth while perma-blinding everyone that tries to hit you except grenade-engis.
2) Wait a bit while they use cd’s to defend against a possible backstab (and they have to unless they are guardians and their F3 passive warns them).
3) Backstab
4) If the enemy is low, kill him, otherwise back off and return to 2)
Backstabbing usually occurs on a much higher frequency than any non-guardian/non-BM ranger can heal so the thief wins over time or at least gets away.

I can only speak for WvW but the mesmer usually has to kite a lot when built for dealing damage. Sure, you can build to be tanky but your damage would mainly come from retaliation and confusion which are both not really that great in PvE.

Every build can solo camps…
We are sometimes running with a rifle/gs berserker warrior in smallscale (max 5 players) and it’s one of the most effective builds to have there:
- highest base defense (cavalier trinkets still give a decent amount of defense even in full berserker armor).
- highest base health.
- highest damage (10-15k killshots on 1500 range are by far not as easy to anticipate as one would think)
- quick movement with gs 3+5.
- not slowable (dogged march + melandru runes and/or lemongrass soup)
Sure, warrior moves are relatively easy to anticipate, but that’s a drawback that is needed to balance out their strengths (highest armor, hp, damage and movement in the game).
