The design philosophy around the GW2 system vs the GW1 system was to lower the number of possible builds while simultaneously raising the number of viable builds. If you look back to GW1 and the popular builds used, there weren’t really all that many per class. Some had more than others.
Sure there were mathematically far more permutations, but an Echo Mending warrior is pretty terribad.
You must be talking about the GW pvp meta. PvE had tons of “viable” builds, if you could grasp playing outside the pvxwiki box.
Longbow Ranger is perfectly viable here. Bring one to a meta function.. and you will be shown the door based solely on weapon equipped.
Meta perception and actual viability in the big game are night and day. In any game.
Yes, I never got asked to leave a party because I wasn’t using the build of the month in PvE in Guild Wars 1…oh wait.
There were tons of players that required absolutely specific builds to participate in runs of almost all end game content, from voltaic spear farms, to the Underworld to DOA. Looking for an imbagon paragron. Looking for IWAY. These things existed. I ran into them all the time, because I enjoyed making my own builds.
Just a question here…
If you didn’t like the meta crowd in GW1, why did you bother trying to party with them?
I didn’t myself. I finished Proph with hench, solo. Finished Factions, NF and EoTN and Legendary Vanq with Hero/Hench. Finished DoA and other stuff with 7 Mercs. That did not mean I was unaware of LFG chat, speed clear LFG chat, and idiot statements like “show stones”. And I’ve had 12 years of mmo and min/maxer meta experience and observation.
ah.. oops. wasn’t addressed to me. oh bother.
But when I played Guild Wars 1, you could only bring 3 heroes, period. No way you can convince me you soloed end game content with 3 heroes.
Vayne I still play Guild Wars and you can have 7 heroes now, been that way about a year or two before GW2 came out.
Yes, thank you I know that. Let’s put it in perspective. Guild Wars 1 came out eight years ago. For the last couple of years, after most people had done everything. after they annouced Guild Wars 2 and introduced the Hall of Monuments, they added the 7 hero thing. By then most people the bulk of the early playerbase had been playing for five years.
Yes, at the end of the life of the game, they made it so you could use 7 heroes. I’m not sure how that helped me during the five years I was playing. I still had all the problems I said.
I’m not sure what you guys are arguing with me for here. They introduced 7 heroes at a time when the Guild Wars 1 population was getting so low it was much harder to find parties for stuff. I know, because I was there.
Stop pronouncing the game Dead. Also, I corrected you, again, because what you spout off about your knowledge of GW isn’t correct, again. And as always, when caught showing your lack of knowledge, you backpedal, twist words, and scramble.
You know. You were there. Ah, OK. And didn’t know you could have 7 heroes till today. riiiight. Quote, from you, 12 hrs ago:
“But when I played Guild Wars 1, you could only bring 3 heroes, period. No way you can convince me you soloed end game content with 3 heroes.”
That doesn’t mean I didn’t know. If you want to log into Guild Wars and see my eight mercenaries, I’ll be happy to introduce you to them. I just assumed you were one of the people who did that stuff when the rest of us did it, not when the game was sliding into oblivion.
You can say anything you want about the game being or not being dead. If it was alive, Anet wouldn’t have put it on life support. No upgrades except bug fixes isn’t a living game.
You said
But when I played Guild Wars 1, you could only bring 3 heroes, period.
Sounds like you like to spin, and spin. You are selling but finally, no one is buying. If you are gonna make stuff up…might be a good idea to make it up where you won’t be corrected, and shown to be ignorant… followed by you back-pedalling, temporizing, explaining, you said " 3 heroes, period." as in " End of discussion. "
Except you can play with 7.
There was a time all you could have were 3 heroes and then add 4 henchmen, PERIOD.

Anet didn’t really have that luxury. They weren’t making a space flight simulator. They were making a fantasy MMO. I’m not sure it’s the same situation.
I would think that A-Net had that luxury after what they did with GW. A-net proved themselves by working “outside” the box with GW. If A-Net hadn’t proven themselves then NCSoft wouldn’t have bankrolled GW2.
But, then “they” tried to fix what wasn’t broken and only ended up breaking it. -LOL

Yes to Mount
I’m tired of seeing NPC running around across Tyria, and they get to the main event and die. If only they had a horse to save their energy for the battle.
LOL, pixels don’t get tired or exert energy through movement.

85 achievements. 2000 hours played. You get the point. In fact, no one in guild( 10+ active members). Place precursors in the achievement boxes-say every 5k. It will reward active and varied game play, not chance.
6K+ hours in 693 days with 12K+ AP and only 1 precursor from the MF in that time.

reading this made me hate some of the gw 2 comminity WHY do u have SO much against DUELING itS Fun if u have something against it DONT PLAY IT DONT DUEL let us enjoy dueling kitten
AS A.NET has said in the past, this game is not balanced for 1 vs. 1 and it is especially NOT balanced wihile using PvE items. The only way to balance the whole game is to have PvP – which duleing is BTW, in PvP and PvE by itself.
from GW2 WIKI
“Player versus Player
Primary article: Player versus Player Is there any type of Open World PvP? No, there is no open world PvP of any kind, this includes dueling. If you wish to fight against a player, you must do so in custom arenas. If you wish to participate in large scale battles against other servers, then World versus World would be the closest thing to open world PvP.
What types of PvP will be available?
Currently, the game includes two types:
World versus World — huge, ongoing battles in the Mists between uneven groups of players of different levels.
Structured PvP has two major types: tournament play, similar to guild battles in Guild Wars — this pits two evenly matched teams against each other; and pick-up play where individual players or groups can pick games to join based on available space, map and other settings.11
In addition, certain activities are also considered PvP, e.g. bar brawling and snowball fights."
This should put an end to this thread. No to dueling in PvE areas.
For a very specific quote, you must have a link somewhere.
LOOK, you asked for his proof, he gave it and now you attack the makers for not making a new posting saying the same thing with a current date(because nothing will change in that wiki post) that you call ancient. GEEZ, the makers themselves could come here and sa uniquvically that it’s not going to happen and you guys would still want proof. -LOL
I understand you were joking in that last sentence but you’re wrong. The fact is, dueling has never been completely ruled out (if anyone finds an official statement that contradicts me please let me know so I can minimize my idiocy). Go check out the http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP page.
“Currently, dueling other players in the world has not been implemented but it has been mentioned several times as possible upcoming feature.”
If Arenanet said “We will never implement/have no plans to implement dueling.” I’d shut up.
Nope, wasn’t joking, I am as serious as a heart attack.

-1. Game is doing just fine without it, and no-one yet has proven that even a barely passable majority have any interest in it.
Keep that “logic” out of these forums. No one can prove that the majority of players are for/against dueling without using anecdotal evidence.
Such terrible overreacting in these dueling threads.
Better is to say the majority of those posting to these topics are against dueling, mounts, capes or whatever ludicrous new mechanic is brought up in these forums.

Since combining Guild Banks from several servers will cause problems with who gets what, it is a vexing problem the Dev team is working on. The News Blog has stated they hope to have the issues with consolidating all the Influence, Gold, Items, etc. solved by December 2014.
I’m sure they would welcome any suggestions you might have on how to solve this. =)
The key word(s) here is in the last sentance of first paragraph of your reply and that is they hope to have the issues with consolidating all the Influence, Gold, Items, etc. solved by December 2014. Not guaranteed, so, in all likelihood this won’t happen until 2015.

In the past, I use to believe that GW2 skills were going to be something similar to how GW1 worked, and for those who have played the original series would know what I mean. There were multiple builds and usually more than one way for every class to be played in game. But as I played through the GW2 betas that quickly changed.
I am bothered to see now how some classes have more or less builds than others. And even with there being another build, it usually only includes swapping out a few utilities while maintaining the same 5 skills from your weapon. Not only that, some classes have mechanics which keep them from even being played at their max potential or at all in certain game modes. (Necro’s and Rangers).
So to start the conversation, How did we go from creating almost endless combos of builds in GW1 to being pigeon hold into certain builds to fit the meta in GW2? Is there any chance that things will improve or only get worse?

It was too work intensive for the Devs to maintain skill balance. Yep that was the reason given. I was like “Seriously?” If my development team admitted that and wanted to dumb the game down there would have been alot of job openings. They may as well have told me, “We can’t do the job sorry..”
I’m waiting for them to announce console versions of Gw2. I’m used to MMO’s that require a lot more thought and planning.
This! For a second I felt I was the only one that heard the dev reasoning as " Sorry, we don’t know how to give you a more fun more diverse game. It’s hard for us to make, and for you to play. " A simpler game suits both of us.
I always took it as a Bit of an insult that the devs decided to simplify the game because.
1. The Original Guild Wars is too complex for casual gamers….
2. It’s too hard for us to balance it….
Basically they are admitting they cannot provide us a game we might find exciting because it would make their game harder to balance. Last time I checked it’s their job to give US a more thrilling game, Not give themselves a cushy easy job, That we pay for.
Now ask yourself, in your heart of hearts, will you keep playing? Will your friends? If so, why would they (Anet) ever change anything? We come, we complain, we leave, they read, they laugh, they leave. Nothing changes. And nothing ever will. Epic Angrybirds requires more thought then this game. Your first 4 skills are fixed, so run, stop 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, run, stop, 1-2-3-4. I feel like a bot.
At least raids in SWTOR require some planning and skill.
The last time I opened Black Lion Chests (within the last month or so) I got both a hair kit and a total makeover. I think they may still rarely come from doing dailies.
They’ve always been fairly rare as “drops” from either source, though, so you’re likely just facing RNG.
Ah Okay, " kits " is the correct pronunciation. Excuse my noobiness but what does RNG stand for ?
RNG= Random Number Generator, used to determine which garbage drop we will recieve.

For the guild puzzle at least, you don’t get the reward until after the event finishes. A guild leader has to stay in the zone until the puzzle timer completely runs out.
Can’t address the others. My guild does guild missions twice a week, and almost never have problems. There has be one or two, but usually bugged and usually fixed. For example after the mega server was released, puzzles weren’t rewarding at all. That did get fixed, though. We do a puzzle every week.
Not sure what else to tell you.
Vayne, this is an intermittent bug happening in the part the OP states about “Saturday, we were the ones to start the guild rush, for some reason when we reached 7/15 completed, the prompt in the guild missions tab said there was no active guild mission. Those that completed it ONLY got the big chest reward and NOT the personal chest.”, is a bug and has happened to the guild I am in as well.

I THINK I may have a solution to this if it can be implemented. Instead of the CD timer being on the Steam Ogre why not put the timer on the ones that go in, then it could be done both before and after, only those that did it before couldn’t go back in until the entrance CD timer elapsed.

Griefing the Steam Gollum? WTF? There is no such thing. Many do the Gollum before FE so they can get to the next World Boss in a decent instance, every second it takes to get there is crucial. {:-þ

People always say that Housing is a waste of time in a MMO. until their MMO gets Housing announced, then the tune changes. inevitably.
for example, it happened in WoW for years, and years, any mention of Housing was ridiculed. Now everyone can’t wait for Garrisons.
Housing is now a fairly standard feature of Modern MMORPGs. a good amount of them are now launching with housing from day 1, while the rest are playing catch up by implementing their Housing systems.
GW2 WILL have housing. eventually. Whenever ANet gets around to it. You can whine and moan and say it is a waste of time, or whatever, but eventually, at some point in GW2’s lifespan, Housing will be announced and introduced. and all of us will be excited for it. all the people screaming “WAAAAH ITS A WASTE OF TIME” now will then be making thread after thread full of Ideas to make Housing better.
However, repeatedly making threads begging for it won’t speed up the process. We’ll know when Housing is coming, when Anet announces it. and not a moment sooner.
Personally, I don’t necessarily want Personal Housing. I just would like to see Guild Halls, and that’s it. FFXIV’s housing system has the player having a personal room inside the Guild Hall. That is more along the lines of what I would want.
GW2 has far more important issues for ANet to deal with though.
Then GO PLAY WoW!!!
