Yes PLEASE! They said they would add this when the game first game out and now it’s almost 2 years old. People have been asking for it over and over and over again. SURELY Anet is working on this. I think having duels will help Anet to see imbalances in professions easier and strengthen PvP in the game, not that it’s weak. It will also help newer players to GW2 PvP to get into it. Just PLEASE have an auto decline option for those that don’t like to duel or dont want to be bothered by trolls. And be able to block specific individuals from challenging you.

Colin Johanson actually said in an interview that they would like to add open world duels at some point. You’re right they never said they would add it, but he certainly said they would like to. At least you can add him to the pro-dueling camp, since i guess we’re taking sides now, lol.

No thank you! PvP has the worst reputation for in game hostility in the entire game and shudder to think of those attitudes in pve.
What next? WvW in pve? Walking to do an event and an enemy zerg pops around the corner?
Keep that pvp genie well and truly locked in its bottle where it belongs.WvW is a combination of PvP and PvE and that is the point. it is a transition from total PvE to PvP in a more controlled map.
The ONLY REASON WvW is a combination of PvP and PvE is because us PvEers are FORCED into WvW in order to get a few PoIs, Vistas and waypoints, nothing more, if it wasn’t for that you would NEVER see a PvEer in WvW, so, your analogy is flawed.

i hate running through a city and getting bombarded with random duel challenges that I have no interest in or time for.

I think it’s probably a given that they control the drop rate (someone had to set it). Otherwise, there would be no drop rate. Remember, MF doesn’t affect chests, loot bags from Champions, or any other kind of container (except PvP Reward Track loot boxes). Just loot from slain foes.
That is correct, MF doesn’t affect bags/boxes, but, every one of those world bosses and champs ALSO DROP weapons/armor not in bags/boxes and SHOULD affect those, but, doesn’t seem to be true.

I wasn’t playing for some time, started again just after that update with mega’s. the problem is not owerflows/megaservers. the problem is not keeping sessions alive for short amount of time imho.
How would the game know who disconnected without meaning to, who quit, who disconnected because of a problem server side and not client side. Who disconnected and will try to reconnect immediately vs calls it a night or simply is unable to reconnect for a while (due to say a power-cut)
In the meantime if the server reserves the spot just in case the person reconnects it would be putting everyone who tries to join into one of those overflows you want to avoid yourself potentially for nothing.
Of course like you say there is the other side of the coin, you joined early to get a good spot sacrificed an hour (though you’re free to play while you’re waiting) and get disconnected through no fault of your own its not fair that you get penalized because of that.
there are two faces for this and its hard to see which is the best route to go with to be honest. That being said I wouldnt say only the first 2 or first x instances have a chance to win. Like someone said this issue has existed from before the megaserver times and actually technically was much worst before where you only had 1 main instance and all the others where random overflows now at least you have 5 main maps and then the others are random instances. Even so I think I’ve beaten Tequalt more times in an overflow then I didnt in a main. I would say rather then the first 2 instances having a big advantage its probably more like the last instance has a huge disadvantage because it might lack the number of players necessary to win the event while all the instances before are full. There is of course also an element of how good and organized the players in an instance are but on which instance they are is probably the luck of the draw more then anything else.
What Krex said in his following reply to this is 100% correct, even GW1 had this system in place.

One of the negative impacts of the new “megaserver” you are not guaranteed to come back on your server when you use a way point.

megaserver only plays when wp’ing from one map to another.
ie. if you are in sparkfly and wp IN sparkfly, you will stay in the exact same server

The spam filter is getting annoying. Due to the megafail patch you need to taxi people into maps in order to get them to fill up for big events like Teq.
However after just filling up 2 groups I am blocked from posting on lfg due to “spamming”
The worst part is that if someone joins your group, taxis into the instance and then leaves the group before someone else joins, it cancels my lfg request and uses up 1 of my 2 posts.
Is there a way to bypass this filter or turn it off?
No way to turn it off and “they” don’t care since we have been BEGGING for this to be addressed for a year and half with not a word.

When a DDOS attack happen it is targeted at a server, Unless GW2 owns its own server then they can directly attack then. As you said above SEGA was attacked, there server they where on was attacked and any one that uses that server will be affected.
Sometime in the future GW2 will go down and I’m sure players will say that GW2 was attacked when in fact the server they where on was attacked and GW2 has no way to protect itself as the same goes to anyone that is on the same server.
GW2 does own their own servers and have been DDoS attacked twice that I can remember.

To be fair whenever I want guild buffs I simply teleport to either Lions Arch, Edge of the Mists spawn, or Cursed Shore. Only takes a minute to ask where they are
Guild buffs and Guild banner buffs are completely separate things.
If I’m not mistaken, you only get active guild buffs if you’re on the same realm as the activated guild buffs (in most cases, whatever the guild is most active on).

What do you all think of adding an option to open a wiki page when right clicking an item?
We already can type /wiki item to get this, but I think adding a right click menu option would further reinforce using this resource. It seems a lot of people don’t know about the /wiki command, but everyone will right click at one point or another on an item, and seeing it there could help educate players, as well as offering a nice community resource.
Or generally increasing the laziness of people.

The toughest component of making a legendary(precursor) is 100% based on RNG. Thats pure lazy reward design.Unfortunately, people in this game don’t want tough and difficult content to be more rewarding than casually playing…which is why I don’t think we will see a change in the reward infrastructure…

Pretty much. In traditional MMOs, the journey is just something to get out of the way ASAP so you can play the “real” game, in which you reach for a shiny that becomes obsolete as soon as you get it, then reach for the next shiny, repeat until you realize how pointless it is and cancel your sub.
GW2 is about the journey. If you aren’t enjoying the game, play something else. The shinies are irrelevant.

Most games are GPU intensive, so a good graphics card is key. If you go to a gtx770 that will greatly increase fps. My buddy has an i5 and gtx770 all settings maxed.
The only trouble with this scenario is that GW2 IS NOT like most games in that GW2 isn’t optimized for a monkey least ways for players, GW2 is CPU intensive not GPU, which is why GW2s awesome graphics sucks at rendering. I run SLI and monitor all aspects of my PC when gaming and my vid cards MIGHT get a 20% hit on load while my CPU will get hit for 75 to 89% use(i5-3350P CPU, 3.1GHz 2- GTS 450 GPUs).

No. They’re not. They are doing many positive things in the game for the players. I am looking forward to Season 2. Sure, it won’t be perfect and there are those who will whine and complain, but I’m sure it will be fun. Don’t be so down on Anet. They have given us a wonderful game! And it’s lose, not loose.

^ I was kind of enjoying your post until the last part about GW2 being a WoW clone. I’m not even going to say anything other than: have you actually played WoW before?
the two things that are directly from WoW and are just as horrible:
1.) gear grind, you might not have to do an insane dungeon to hope for a drop but then again, you have a better chance of getting the gear trough a drop then to farm for it like in GW2.
2.) gear centric, one thing GW1 did perfectly right but GW2 did horribly wrong is to make gear the top priority as it is in WoW, it should’ve bin a cosmetic thing and nothing else.I love this post. In WoW even before they went casual it was possible to get a few pieces of currency and buy a piece of armor without spending years in the same dungeon. I tried myself to get even the AC things (you would think since it’s one of the first dungeons players encounter it would be quick to do a single run and then get a reward but no.) we barely made it with a good team and two guards. What gets me is the tiny bit of currency. I went out to see what I could get with it. Absolutely nothing. Is it any wonder why people preferred crafting in this title to running dungeons early on?
Agree with you on the stats thing. When they announced early on that it might be cosmetic only I thought AWESOME! that would be a real change. but alas no. Last minute decisions in the wrong directions/lack of knowledge of mmo development history seems to be this game’s problem.
I’m sure the hundreds if not thousands of players with tons of Ascalon tokens would beg to differ. AC is one of the easiest, if not the easiest dungeon to complete and get tokens from. It’s one of the most farmed dungeons because it is so easy.
Whatever group you ran it with may not have been as good as you think they were. Play with an actual good team and you will be flooded with more tokens than you can shake a fist at.
You mean all be zerker and stack which is a mechanic that they changed in multiple dungeons just recently with their unannounced patch notes? The point is (which you missed) that this game not only was supposed to be NOT about dungeons but it’s following a very old system of too many currencies (one per dungeon) and it’s also following a rather terrible version of the earliest dungeon currency system which other games have evolved into much better systems. It’s sad when the game mentioned above, actually has more diversity than GW2 when it comes to rewards. The 2 currencies used in WoW are what’s used for everything from armor upgrades to new skins, and guess what, you don’t have to run a single dungeon to gather them which is exactly what I expected this game to be when i heard multiple interviews with the devs during beta.
We got something entirely different instead.
I think the term Bait and switch is appropriate. See for me.. if I Love a game call it XYX… and then I hear XYZ 2, is being released by the makrs of XYZ.. I expect some of the core mechanics to remain.
When XYZ 2 is released…. and it feels Like " generic MMO" with an XYZ skin tossed on top … I begin to feel I got took.

Please nerf karma more. What do we EVEN need karma for? There are too much. We don’t want any more karma. People keep convert them to money using the mystic forge exploit. Please let it that we only get 100 karma for the daily. Each event should only gives us 10 karma or so. Teq should only give you 1000 karma instead of 20,000. Each Obi shard should cost 10,000 karma instead of 2100.

I’m not disregarding what you say about Guildwars 2 being a more relaxing experience for an mmo overall but there comes a point when people just want more of a challenge something to work towards like a wall to get over not only alone but with friends and guild mates. The whole game is currently built around casual players but there becomes a point where people want/need more progression. Before anyone says go play <mmo> here if you want a challenge I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t love this game for what it is.
I agree. There should be more challenging open-world content, but for smaller groups, since the bigger groups already have Wurm and Tequatl.
Champ trains are so ridiculous, and they need to be stopped, whether it’s in Queensdale, or in Frostgorge, or anywhere. It’s just a big zerg, running from champ to champ, with no challenge or strategy, at all.
Anet needs to kill them once and for all, and stop encouraging it.
The easiest solution is to just put them on random timers. They could’ve also made them available as guild missions.
Once champ trains are gone, then players will start doing other content again, such as temples, dungeons, etc.
As it is currently, endgame for gw2, is seeing 50+ people running in circles from champ to champ, because it’s currently the fastest way to get loot. This doesn’t happen in other MMOs, and it just feels like amateur game-design.
Quick solution: Random timers & Zone-wide announcement that a champ spawned.
Oh yeah, by all means, kill the champ trains. But don’t come crying to me when the price of t6 mats SKYROCKETS and you have to pay for them through the teeth.
People like this are probably “poor little rich kids”(as I like to call them) and has bucket loads of money to buy gems to exchang for in-game gold. Nothing like having deep pockets so as to not have to EARN their goods.
