2000 hours is chump change compared to some like me with almost 6000 hours since early access to the game and never even had the scent of a precurser so don’t feel cheated just yet. I just say that precursers are a myth. -LOL

That works two ways. In the past 2 years, can you say with a straight face and honest concience that they have(in regards to my underlined part in your statement)?

That’s a really good question and one which every individual needs to answer for himself. Personally, they’ve kept several promises they needed to – not making the gemstore pay-to-win, for example. Regularly updating the game with new features and content. That sort of thing.

There have obviously been disappointments as well. If I were concerned about eSports, I’d find trusting them hard. The PvP community hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves and it’s probably too late. Dungeons have been a major disappointment (but to be fair, they never promised a bunch of new dungeons.)

Personally, the introduction of Ascended gear hurt me the most and has made me hyper-sensitive to any further increase in gear or level. The trust I have in them would quickly vanish if additional levels or an addition gear tier were added.

But I can say with a straight face that, despite some missteps, I think they are actively trying to make this a better game for the vast majority of the playerbase (sometimes at the expense of minority groups like hardcore PvPers and the RP community.)

Thank you, this reply was a breath of fresh air to me and took the fanboi thought of you out of my head and has now earned my respect. KUDOS!

Suggestion: District System (for MegaServer)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Im Mudbone.1437

Im Mudbone.1437

I don’t think district system doesn’t work well in GW2 despite when I heard the suggestion for the first time I also agreed with the idea. The reason why I think this doesn’t work is really it opens up abuse of the system. You can flip district to district to gather permanent rich ore nodes without ever move or use WP. You can do the same for events and champions.

This is not true, It used to happen like you said about the nodes for overflow maps, but, was fixed. Districts would be basically the same thing as overflow and megaserver instances only difference that I can see is that with districts you get to choose where you’re put.

Look, it’s okay to have criticisms about the game. I have my own. Trust me, people on my guild’s Teamspeak channel are often privy to some angry ranting about this game.

That said, a lot of the good feedback on these forums is totally obscured by dozens of angry hyperbole. Whatever you think of Megaserver, it is not destroying the game. It is not the worst thing ArenaNet has ever done. It is not so broken that the only option is to immediately remove it. They did not do it to save tons of money because the game is failing.

Chill. Out.

If this community doesn’t police its own worst offenders, it will remain a toxic pool of discontent. We’ve seen great examples of self-regulating our members within the CDI posts. Bringing that same attitude to the entire forum would be a great first step at helping developers be comfortable enough to post here regularly.

We need to build trust with them first. Trust is earned. We aren’t earning it.

That works two ways. In the past 2 years, can you say with a straight face and honest concience that they have(in regards to my underlined part in your statement)?

We really need the ability to right click on a guildmate or friend and travel to their server version without having to be in their party.

That one small change would make a HUGE difference. As it stands, guilds and friends are not being kept together reliably. The result is guilds are seeing less of other guild members and other friends on the map instead of more, as was postulated by the developers when megaservers were announced.

We need better tools for staying together with the people we most want to play with. Having to party and taxi is a chore and really takes from the fun of the game.

GW1 did it the CORRECT WAY using districts that could be manually switched to.
Just ANOTHER of the; dare I say it, one of the best things about GW1 that SHOULD BE in GW2.

So you better tell your customers in advance: “hey we take some time to implement it. Before we try it on a few parts” and if they don’t like it you hurry even more just because you hope they shut up after a while?

In the case of Megaserver, the product was delivered as documented ahead of schedule. That seems like a success.

Your issue is that you don’t like the product. That can be changed, but it means redesigning core features at an additional time and cost.

This is a pretty typical set of lines we deliver to our customers all the time. (And yes, we are wildly profitable.)

It’s so funny that your last two paragraphs make you sound less like just a GW2 gamer and more like an employee.

wouldn’t that make it B2P actually?

Buying means that SOMEONE PAYED for it, so, any way you look at it, it’s still P2P.

Pay-to-play has traditionally (always?) meant to imply a subscription model. You continue to pay to continue to play. B2P simply means you buy the game to play it. Yes, you do pay money in both scenarios but there is a difference between a one-off exchange of money/goods and a subscription model.

Then, shouldn’t P2P games be called C2P2P.

So I’m not sure why people say GW2 is F2P. My internet isn’t free, the electric I use isn’t free, my computer wasn’t free… I figure it costs me about $80.00 a month to play GW2. Remember my friends nothing is free. Sure it doesn’t cost me MORE to play but it definitely isn’t free.

GW2 is feeling more and more like a facebook game to me, like farmville, I log on do my dailies and other time-gated stuff then log off. I have a lot of faith in them I hope they can get me excited again.

Guild Wars 2 is not Free-to-play because you have to buy the game. There is no without-purchase version. $60 is not free.

Which, in and of itself, makes GW2 P2P, imagine that. -LOL

The only solution I would have is for the developers to actually listen to their CLIENTS(you know the ones who pay their salaries), the way I see them doing business is for them to say “yeah we hear you, but, we know better so we are going to do it our way end of story”.

The changes in the latest patch are all in response to things players have wanted.

Or are you referring to the customers who bought the game 18 months ago and haven’t paid a penny to play it since? Or the ones who announce they’re quitting?

The devs collect a lot of data that doesn’t involve outshouting other people on the forums.

If this update is what players wanted why are there more negative responses than there is positive? Could it be because it was put together the way that they wanted it and not the way it was envisioned by the community?

I seriously think that…….If you play Solitaire and mohjongg, only play to earn money that you never spend and don’t actually take time to enjoy other content……then you really have no right to make a statement like this.

Much of this game (like all MMOs) is based on the social aspect of the game, I wouldn’t play this game if it weren’t for my friends online. Half of the fun of this game for me is getting on my guild’s or the GoM Teamspeak server and just doing things with a bunch of friends. After nearly 2 years of play I finally found a guild I am happy with and one of my favourite parts of this game is Guild missions night.
Before I found my group of friends I would ONLY do sPvP because it was the only thing that interested me but now I enjoy dungeons/fractals just as much. Through my friends I found the wonders of WvW and the huge group chaos that undergoes there….I even bought my tag!

This game is around 40% PvP, so if you don’t play it you’re actually missing out on a lot of what you have paid the money for. I applaud anet for their chosen business model and they actually give you more than you realize.

What have you gotten for free that you would have to pay extra to gain on other MMOs?:

-New PvP maps
-New fractals
-New item Tiers and Skin
-10’s of hours of playable Living story updates
-Quality of life improvements
-New playable areas
-New skills & Traits

Might not seem like much but other companies would charge you for an “Expansion” that would give you pretty much the same thing.
I would also think about the living story that is coming out soon, rumor has it it may be opening up some of the maguma map area + a new dungeon and possible a new race later on (all for free most likely)

I have played every single area/aspect of GW2 with 5K+ hours and 11K+ AP(although AP don’t mean squat in this game) and I absolutely hate PvP, even found a few distractions in-game on my own in the way of finding little easter egg areas. As to the last part of your retort I would GLADLY PAY for an expansion, bought every one that was released for GW1 and the GW2 LS jokes are FAR FROM an expansions worth of content.

Pretty soon the only ones that will be left playing this game are people like me with nothing better to do and can’t afford a subbed game, pure casuals and the fanbois.

Only people who enjoy playing the game will be playing it? That’s awful!

Sorry, but, I don’t enjoy the game in the sense you may mean, I play it just to have something to do other than play Solitair/Mahjongg and the ONLY things I do are my dailies/crafting and world bosses to sell the rares for the coinage, then it’s back to Solitair and Mahjongg.

I’m having trouble discerning your priorities. If this game is so boring to you and such an apocalyptic waste of your time (and from the sound of it has been for quote a while), then why exactly are you still here?

I mean, I occasionally do enjoy me a good game of solitaire, but normally I log onto Guild Wars because, well, I want to play Guild Wars. Maybe I’m alone, but…

So please, tell me. Humor me. Yes, we all know what the perceived problems are, but what are the solutions? If the game is so stale and repetitive with “nothing to do” (Anet tried Living World, but then people complained that new content was too frequent), then what exactly should they implement?

Someone tell me. Anyone at all.

What about “it gives me something to do other than just playing Solitair and Mahjongg” did you not understand, plus I can’t afford to play a good subbed game and I need to add that I also still play GW1 going on 8 years now. To make it easier to understand I am retired/dissabled and limited in my mobility.

Today I went to Blaxeridge Steppes to defeat Shatterer. It had to be there by that time according to schedule, but for some reason I ended up in a map where it wasn’t.
I thought megaserver was supposed to eliminate all the downsides of overflow but this doesn’t seem much different at all.

It happened there, but was already over, I have seen this talking to guildies who were doing Shatterer and found it doesn’t spawn at the same time across all instances of the Megaserver, so, IMO, no different than the overflow system, same demon just a different name given to it. For a TRUE MEGASERVER It would have to be one 1 server with one shard like that game I won’t name to keep this on-topic.

Look at sig. MF works. I have a huge sample size.

Sorry Vol, but, that siggy(Magic find works: http://sinasdf.imgur.com/) DOESN’T MEAN SQUAT, only that you are one of the select few with a very lucky account.

Conspiracy theories dont belong on a game forum. Door is this way ->

Also, luck doesnt mean anything in this game as far as drops. People only remember the really good drops, and remember the total crap they get handed. They dont remember, or willingly overlook, everything in the middle. Just like you only remember the few bad restaurant experiences you’ve had in the last decade as opposed to the other 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999% experiences that were not notable in any other way than they were decent enough.

Second, what’s to not say Vol isnt hoarding all his good drops that he’s accumulated since the game started? Those images could (and probably are) the product of playing a game for a couple years.

So, what your saying is it’s impossible? I have NEVER eaten at a restaurant that wasn’t excellent because I know who I can trust when it comes to good food, unlike games. Be ignorant of conspiracies if you want, but, this wouldn’t be the first to be proven true. Exit stage left.

Drops are still RNG-based, so it depends on how lucky you are that day. Also, keep in mind that +300% of .000001% is still only .000004%.

I think it goes a step further and MF is ALSO on the RNG table and the higher MF you have the higher the RNG on it, MF and precursers are in the conspiracy theory.

(I don’t feel like listening to a bunch of 16 year old boys scream about their genitals)

This is the reason I left EQ2 and came to GW2 4 months ago, now it’s an epidemic of adolescent spammers at every WB. There’s nothing that can be done about it except strict moderation and prompt response to player report.

In the scheme of things i think from a business perspective it’s less costly to lose some offended players than it is to devote manpower towards enforcement and then ultimately lose the banned players who commit the act.

But i would like to see an Anet representative to go spend a while in vigil keep and witness the lengths that some of these trolls go to in order to disrupt other players, even to the extent of only using emotes. Is this the game you had envisioned when you decided that megaservers was the best trend to follow?

You would be surprized to find out 90%+ of those as you say “16 year old boys” are actually probably in their late 20s and 30s, so goes the way of todays society.

As a GW1 vet, you should know they did this kitten there too. Regularly.

“Oh kitten, they are balancing skills again…..”
“Back to the drawing board….”

BUT, at least in GW1 we had/have almost twice as many skills to use in battle, and some skills in GW2 if used will get you severely tongue lashed in a group, or, is totally useless.

So…. pretty much the exact same kitten as in gw1. Or did we forget about skills like flare….

Yes, Gw1 had a helluva lot more skills. Of which a third were only ever truly effective or used.

At least there are more useable skills in GW1 compared to the skillsets in GW2.

Stop comparing the two games. Though they share the same name, they are vastly different. Guildwars2 is much more casual of a game which is why there are less skills as it’s less daunting for newcomers – not to mention much easier to balance. You clearly like GW1 better, that’s great, GW2 isn’t interfering with you playing it is it? No, so stop complaining.

I can compare the two games which is far from casual for the simple reason of it being an extension of GW1 and the fact that we were told, and I quote; “expect the best of GW1 to be in GW2” during the making of GW2 even if it was a bold faced lie.

I don’t know where that quote is from, but having dozens of useless skills in a game is hardly its best feature. Anyway, you can’t hold on to a quote from almost 2 years ago, things are bound to change whether you like it or not. Again I feel I need to emphasize, they are two very different games and you aren’t doing yourself any good by sticking with the mentality that Guildwars2 is supposed to be an expansion off of Guildwars, because for the most part, its a step in a completely different direction.

The quote was taken from the GW2 Manifesto and the ONLY THING/S different between GW1 and 2 are the awesome GW2 graphics, the HORRID GW2 mechanics, the multitude of unfixed GW2 bugs(many of which that have been here since BETA/launch), races and SOME architectural changes. They share the same storyline, landscape and is based on GW1 200 years in the future and as I said in my previous reply GW2 is an EXTENSION OF GW1 200 years in the future not an expansion of GW1, very different.

Okay you clearly aren’t going to listen to anything we have to say. We have tried to be reasonable but you obviously just don’t like Guildwars2. There’s no problem with that. GW2 is based on GW1 lore, not much else. If you don’t like that, then too bad. Have a nice day.

Yes I listen, but, so much of it(the accepting of everything fanboyism) is just too ludicrous. I like GW2 but I don’t LOVE IT like I do GW1.

Nobody is telling you that you can’t love GW1 and nobody is ‘fanboying’. I haven’t said anything but facts and my main point has been that GW1 and GW2 are different games. You can’t seem to accept that and feel the need to keep bashing GW2 because it doesn’t have the same mechanics as GW1. You are allowed to have your own opinion, and if you don’t like some of the mechanics of GW2, that is valid. But your argument that it isn’t enough like GW1 is invalid. You are comparing apples and oranges. Yes they are both fruits, but very, very different ones.

I only bash the areas of the game that deserves bashing and not go with the flow like sheep, but, I digress and apologize for going off topic, my thoughts have been made public, you guys can carry on.

Based on your posting history, anyone and everything that does not agree with you is ‘fanboism.’ Goddess forbid others have a different opinion….

AND while your checking my posting history ALSO review the rest of those threads and make note of the similarities/agreement of the majority of the respondants so your analogy that those not agreeing with me statement is skewd.

Compared to the vast amount of total skills in GW1, the amount of actually used/useful skill is pathetic and is nowhere near what is happening with GW2.

Lots of skills doesn’t mean great versatility and lots of builds, it’s the opposite.

Sorry, but, all I can do is LOL at this comment.

First of all, very rude to him, he is stating a fact. The amount of skills in GW1 can be fun to play around with, but in reality there are only a set amount that are actually viable and the amount of work to balance all of the skills is insane. Again, the two games are very different with very different skill systems.

If you think something so benign as a LOL was rude you/they need a slightly thicker skin and I reiterate and add only 3 out of 5 skills are useable by some professions in GW2 and 5 to 7 out of 8 in GW1 by every single profession(depending on the build you swap to)? Again I LOL.

I don’t want to be called a ****ing Naz*, every single kittening time I join a Megaserver and speak in the language of MY SERVER !

People in the community should not do this.

This should not be happening. Anyone that does this is in breach of the Code of Conduct.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-rules-of-conduct/

Sad to say it but when you are on a MegaServer map you are not on your server you are on the MegaServer. They should not be yelling at you for speaking German nor should you be yelling at them for speaking English.

I hate to be cynical but I bet the amount of people banned for hate speech on the megaservers is exactly zero, even though I’m seeing it everywhere.
I’m a native english speaker so it isn’t directed towards me but it’s horrible to look at nonetheless and if I weren’t a native speaker I’d feel pretty unwelcome.

I see it on a daily basis in map chat and still see those same hatemongers spewing their bigotry, so, I agree there is zero accountability against those spewing said infractions by those in charge.

I agree precursor drop rate is absurdly low and its pure RNG…..BUT

People seem to forget that making a legendary should very difficult and time consuming, which is why it is a legendary
It is already quite sad to see every player having 1-2 legendary weapons, making them not so special anymore.
A legendary should take almost a year to make however it doesn’t.
What you are trying to do by using the forge is taking a short cut and hoping you will win the lottery.

Do people cry and kitten about not winning the lottery in real life? Yes some do, but we know how absurd someone will sound if they say that the chance of winning lottery is too low….
Or do most people get a proper job and slowly build their equity.
That is the difference between rolling it from the forge and farming the gold to get one.

Sorry, but, you are incorrect in your definition of something being legendary, something that is legendary is an object/item that is remarkable/famous/celebrated/renowned and is based on legends of old, there is NOTHING LEGENDARY about legendaries except for being able to obtain one by some. Now I agree they shouln’t be easily obtained, but, NOT seemingly impossible by a select few(and I say select few because I still say it’s a conspiracy) while others get multiples almost daily
