oh is it automatic? I thought you had to talk to an NPC still, its just that their speed is increased. Or that you would have to toggle on your icon
You can toggle the speed buff. According to the blog, you have to have the Mentor tag on to have the speed buff active. I think the OP is asking for an option to keep the tag on but to disable the speed buff.
To answer your question OP, No. Excluding people from giving feedback because they haven’t played as long as someone else is not a good reason to invalidate their feedback.
Like you, I’ve been here since headstart as well. Having said that, my opinion weighs no more heavily than someone who has played this game for a month. You have no idea what type of background and experience that the “new” person can provide. Someone who has only played this game for a month could have a 10-year background in MMO development. This person could have specialized in balancing different classes from other MMOs. To reiterate, you don’t know what new people can bring to the table.
On a side note, I’m afraid I just can not take your suggestion seriously after the line about veterans players being older/more mature. That is just ludicrous.
For a TL/DR version, the opinions of ALL customers, regardless of time invested, matter.
I would disagree with you. I think the snipers are fine. I remember sometime ago anet said they wanted the normal mobs to make you consider using your full bar. I think the snipers are a good example of expanding what skills you use. For example I was playing revenant using a sword/axe. When I saw the red dot on my head I knew, from taking a few hits, that when the dot starts to fade to dodge. At that point I used either Shiro 8 skill or axe 4 skill to close the gap and destroyed the sniper in about 1.3 seconds. They have super low health and honestly after the first shot they expose themselves because they will be the only ones standing completely still.
I would not say that is proof. The first looks pretty photoshopped. The second could be early ideas for the tengu as a race before it was scrapped. The third I know for a fact was an April fools joke someone had posted last year. http://www.guildwars2hub.com/features/editorials/tengu-announced-next-playable-race
There is a link to the joke. Click the domain of the winds link and it will show that pic. The fourth is probably, again, another early concept for the tengu character select before it was scrapped.
Was fighting a necro as a necro 1 v 1 in the new stronghold match. When he was about to die he gained a shield around him and had continuos block against all my attacks for 5 seconds at least. This happened mutiple times during the fight and each seemed to occur when he was low on hp.
Can someone explain how he was able to do this? When i asked he said it was from his team summoning turai but does that give a map wide buff and how often does he pop it?
It was Turai that was giving him the shield. His war cry gives everyone on the map a shield that absorbs hits for a few seconds. As far as what the CDs for it are I’m not sure.
This is related to HoT and it being a direct sequel to Season 2 “Living World” ( excluding season 1 that seems to be a lost cause for new/returning players like myself)
Soo currently with the pre-purchase of HoT you get the core game and if im not mistaken Living world story is apart of the core game no? is it included with HoT when we pre-purchase it or do we still have to buy it via gem store?
Another concern, if Living world is only available via gem store and we buy HoT (new player) how are we going to know we are missing a huge chunk of the story already?.. i can see mass confusion for newer players being dropped into a situation and not know whats going on at a all with no back story.
some clarification would be awsome on this subject.. if HoT is fleshed out and playable without LW being required.. it would save alot of us some money and time ($60-$70 value depending on how long the sale lasts this is including HoT to get the full exxperience), from what i heard season 2 ark is broken if you havnt seen season 1, it be nice to just skip it for a decent prologue.
No, the Living World arcs will not be included. The devs have already stated, many articles ago, that there will be a story recap so people that did not play the LS will not be left out. The only thing people who were not a part of LS 1 and 2 are missing are the achievements/rewards.
Does Amazon later ship you the box as well?
I assume be bought this: http://www.amazon.com/Guild-Wars-Heart-Thorns-Online/dp/B00ZSF6ZAG/ref=sr_1_5?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1435217348&sr=1-5&keywords=guild+wars+2+heart+of+thorns&tag=donations09-20
And no, they don’t. You just get the serial code.
Funny thing, though. That is being sold officially via Amazon by NCSoft. Didn’t one of the Anet people post a big hoopla that the pre-order was only through Anet? Or has that warning from Anet now ended?
What you’re thinking of is when people were claiming the release date is so-so or the price is so-so from third party sites was not always correct. Anet was telling people that the info on those sites was not guaranteed. I know there were some sites doing a pre-order for 60 bucks so those people would have been charged 10 bucks more for the same product people were paying 50. Plus I think the whole refund thing was only for people who bought through Anet themselves.
It might sound strange, but I rather want to be convinced that the expansion is worth $50. It sound as more content, more advanced game play and new mechanics would be fun, and the idea of a expansion sounds great. However, I don’t want to spend money on simply the idea, so could we please see some second of game plays in new fractals, world bosses, raid, dungeons and story? Not asking for complete layouts or numbers, just some videos showing us how fun this expansion actually will be playing.
World boss – They showed the Wyvern fight in numerous video which is a world boss
Story – Watch the demo videos they showed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irhTiHZ7Syc This one is a long video, but it shows the story that is playable in the betas
Fractals – No word yet
Dungeons/Raids – There is no confirmation on these two being in the expansion.
In the mean time, here’s some patch day theme music.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jK-NcRmVcwSo looking forward to this patch!
Something I thought was funny is that when I clicked this link an ad for HoT came on, and I thought that was just perfect.
I don’t think 2 people will be able to do it, but there are other options.
1) Everyone will have access to an instanced area that works similar to a Guild Hall.
2) Get some temp members to join the guild to help you capture your own Guild Hall. This option may cost you some gold though because I have this feeling people will offer up “Mercenary” services to help smaller guilds get their halls.
Exactly what Inculpatus said. You get either or, not both.
I love this city.
…when will it be destroyed?
Is that a request?
It is indeed. Let me go ahead and give you the start up for this. DR gets swarmed by a mysterious force. Total annihilation. No survivors, not even the queen. When I say no survivors I mean no survivors. Not even a hint that the queen is alive. I want the queen to receive the Belinda Delaqua treatment, and by that I mean her corpse hanging out for everyone to see, not comes back as a spirit infused GS. From the smoke and ash this mysterious enemy reveals themselves. It is………the QUAGGEN.
Cut to promo. New GW2 expansion.
Guild Wars 2 : Age of the Quaggen
Not happy to lose ground targeting on my Ranger traps, but I’ll deal with it.
I thought ground targeting for traps was becoming baselined? I thought the other skills that have a ground targeting trait were getting baselined, like concentration skills for guard and wells for necros.
Well, just about every major internet site have these smart ad things, I believe the brand is adchoice. It uses your searches and selects ads that are appropriate to your searches. So if one of these new players searches for video games, eventually gw2 will turn up. There’s plenty of advertising going on, it’s just you have to have some video games in your search history.
I don’t know how many times, or how many ways I can say this: Tequatl, 3 headed jungle worm, the marionette, these Are not Raids. They are open world content. I don’t see how you could believe they are raids. They aren’t instanced, so any one can come or go from the event as they please and it own’t really effect the outcome. They are not very challenging and require little or no group cohesion, communication, or organisation, because they have to be like that since they are open world content. If open world content was as challenging as a raid, it would never be completed; you can’t organize an entire server of random people who aren’t in a group and don’t know who you are, nor is it fun to try.
Raids are basically dungeons, they are instanced content, but require a larger group to accomplish than 5 people, usually between 10 and 25, and are thus much more challenging than dungeons and a greater social experience. They allow a guild as a whole to feel more accomplished, rather than just 5 people in the guild at a time.
Just an FYI for you, it does not have to be instanced to be a raid. There have been a few games that have done open world raids. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes it was done right, sometimes it wasn’t but that’s true for everything.
Second the events you mentioned actually do require a level or organization. Believe it or not you can’t just have everyone on the map run up to teq and spam the 1 key. You actually need defense groups in certain locations and during the battery phase you need people that will fight the bulk mobs and the special mobs (grub holes, fingers, and the fatties). In fact the teq fight is pretty similar to how some raid bosses operate, so it’s not unfair for some people to consider them raids.
Just wanted to clarify some misunderstandings you seem to have.
I would like to know what is considered to be a small guild from what Anet said. By small does that mean a guild of 5 people can do it or small as in a guild of 20 people can do it.

Wait I’m at a bit lost here. How did anet lie?
I’m still lost. What’s the lie?
If you can’t see it, there really is no point in explaining it.
Seriously? I just asked to explain the lie and you just post a picture. The picture has 2 identical statements, that you need the core game to play HoT. The only difference is it was changed to state that HoT also comes with the core game. The answer to the question “Do I need to own guild wars 2 to play the expansion” is still the same. That’s why I’m saying I don’t see the lie. The answer is still the same.

Believe it or not most of the people who are angry are angry because they also love this game. Many are passionate, they want to see Anet do right by us, we want to be able to say “Anet is a great company, you can trust them to deliver”. We want this expansion to be great, enjoyable, and keep the game healthy.
They have made it very hard. Morally I couldn’t tell anyone to trust them right now. I don’t trust them atm, I am not convinced that this expansion will be all they make it out to be. They have already been caught in a pretty hefty lie, whats to stop them from lying again to fill their pockets at our expense ?

Why make a brand new account? I have too many things on my account that can longer be obtained in the game, plus my rare dyes let’s me keep my armors in interesting colors. For me, I put way too much into my account to just leave to the side and start over with a new one.
I want to know this as well. I hope it can be done with a small guild.
I’ve got to get this off my chest.
-How can some of you look people in the eye and claim Arenanet is not giving you a whole lot of content(HoT specifically) when you haven’t played or experienced everything(and I mean EVERYTHING) that is this expansion offers, hmm? Do any of you have access to some leaked version of the full expansion or w/e? Enough with assumptions and back seat game development. You don’t work for Anet.
-The base expansion is $50. Ok, cool. Historically, most MMO expansions have been about $40-60. So how is this a problem? It’s because people keep equating whatever “value” the game has with games that aren’t even in the same genre: ie every game that doesn’t require an internet connection. They just don’t say it(probably because they dot understand the meaning of their words). Those games(usually) don’t ask for this level of pricing because they don’t have to continue developing content for it. People can continue to play those games well after the publisher and devs have moved on to other projects. MMOs(and MOBAs) don’t get this luxury.
-Yet naive individuals here will procrastinate on the “value” of the prices. There is no “value”. That’s a subjective emotion you make up for yourself to justify your purchase. And there’s nothing wrong with that. However, it holds not one kitten ounce of meaning as far as the quality of the expansion goes. We have reviews/reviewers for that. The price of reason is steep.
/rant
At least we can still all agree that the real only valid argument here is that the standard edition does not come with a free character slot. As it should, at the minimum for people who bought the game very recently.
I almost completely agree with you OP. I will agree that value is subjective. For me, a person who has been playing since the release of proph, just the announcement of an expansion was enough for me to buy. Of course for me this comes from years of experience with Anet. I’ve yet to be disappointed with what has been released. Until that day comes I trust Anet.
As for the whole “no extra character slot” argument, I do not agree. Ever since Proph if you wanted to have at least one of each class you would have to drop cash. Coming from someone who has been here since the start, I do not expect additional character slots from expansions because, before this one, there were no additional character slots added with the expansion. Then again, I was not expecting more than what Anet has done historically, I just expected the same, which we got.
Hello everybody. Something i have noticed for a while now, is that the GW2 community seem to get less upset about certain features that they may have been against,
as long as it goes by a different name, than other known MMOs call that same feature.
Raid Dungeons seem to be one of those features that is looked down upon in the GW2 community compared to the general MMO community.
If Anet has any intentions to add Raid Dungeons, I believe it would be in Arena Net’s best interest to change the name of the feature to not ring too many bells the wrong way.
This is where you all come in.
whats some substitutes names for Raid Dungeons feature?
I don’t think it’s so much the name but what is associated with the name. Many people see raids as a home to elitist attitudes and I think that’s what people want to avoid.
Instead of actual raids though I think anet should take a page from their first game. Take for example the mission Vizunah Square. In this missions Cantha characters fight through slums to reach Vizunah square while at the same time non cantha members fight through a different area of the slums. The cantha side usually got there first and fought off waves of afflicted until the non cantha team arrives and then the cantha and non cantha teams team up to finish the mission. The end result is you have at most 16 people working together for about half of the mission.
Another example is The Eternal Grove. This one was only 8 people but the team was split into 2 hroups, each defending a gate.
Something like this might be better for the game than traditional raids. It is not only a throw back to GW1 bit it also let’s for large groups do something different than the usual raid stuff. Me personally I would like to see people coordinating 3 or 4 seperated groups advancing through different paths of an instanced area. Like 1 group taking up a sniping/artillery position while another group makes a head on charge and a third group sneaks up the side to hit the enemy on their flank.
There does seem to be a need of some comedic relief…
It’s time to bring him back.
He is the hero Tyria deserves, but not the one it needs right now.
In an interview with ten top hammer anet said they were just doing 3 elite spec previews and then take a break. Anet has not released any info about when they will show them again. Hopefully they will announce when they will start again at the end of one of their PoIs. I really want to see all the elite specs so I’m hoping next week but I doubt that.
Houses could be pretty good. Many MMOs are putting in player housing because it gives players an area that is “their own”. The players get choose the layout, what goes in the housing area, and many other things as well, like adding a TP or banks. It’s also good because houses serve as a gold sink to the players. These ideas are usually added a few years down the line though. We already have a home instance just need an option to decorate it.
It does happen sometimes. I know one time, in a different mmo, I had this quest that was for 2 people but I was able to solo it. About halfway through I noticed a lot of guild spam In chat. I make an observation about that and the whispers I got in response you would swear I just punched their mothers in the face. This one guy whispered me 47 times. Simply put no matter what game you will have people like that. It’s nothing new. I do think being able to set chat options like allow g only friends to whisper is nice. Until then though just gotta add a few more to the block list.
But rytlock never died. The revenants in this game never died and became a revenant.
Wait, how is Razah the original revenant? The only thing special about him was that you could change his profession.

I have a charr necromancer. Inspired by the Aatxe.
Will the dark knight be buggy with the scythe? At the moment the deathshroud is sometimes bugging out when running on 4 legs. (The animation will be staying in 4 legged running animation, but the 2 fron legs will be weird)
It seems that disabling to stow the weapon while in deathshroud or dark knight would fix the issue.
It’s hard to tell really. They never showed the Reaper’s Shroud with the weapon stowed away. I believe though while you have RS active you can not stow your weapon so charrs will stay on their hind legs. During the POI video they showed a necro going into RS and the weapon stayed out the whole time. This is just speculation though.
Sorry OP but an expansion is not pay to win. It would be different if the only gear avaliable to people is masterwork and if you want ascended gear you have to buy it off the cash shop but that is not the case here.
Things need to be added to an expansion that is only avaliable to people who have the expansion. That’s how it’s always been. One thing I can say about elite specs alone is that while you do not deal more damage (like chronomancers deal 20% more damage than normal mesmers) the elite specs do offer different play styles.
If it’s a very melee focused I’m guessing Reaper.
If it’s more focused on spirits like some people have been suggesting I’m guessing Spectre.
Guys, please. You are missing the bigger picture here. The Guard is all about justice. Whether it is wielding a bow or mace the Guard is focused on dishing out justice. What character comes to mind when you think of justice? That’s right boys, Batman. The elite specialization should be called Batman. Think about it. Mesmer elite will have clones that throw shields like Captain America. All elite specializations will be superhero themed. Calling it now.
Well we were told that specializations would be revealed starting this week. We were also told that each week would be a dedicated full reveal. Today starts the week so which class do you think we will be revealed first?
My bet is on ele since they let the name and picture slip in the live stream. Druid is the other obvious choice since they already told us the name. Third most likely is Necro since we know their weapon. I find it unlikely it will be any of the other classes, though the devs really dislike necro so it probably won’t be them either.
Well we know it won’t be the druid first or whatever the Revenant spec is. They said that during the live stream. I’m thinking ele to start. I’m hoping to see mes soon though so I kinda want mes to go first.
In the 2 articles about the new trait system Anet also talked about elite specializations. In the article Anet mentioned doing something different with life force and shatters.
My question is do you guys think this is a hint to how the necromancer and mesmer specialization will affect their profession mechanics and if so how do you guys think life force and shatters will work?
by checking at anet snail process. if we lucky may get Hot at the end of this year or early 2016
April now already. start testing pvp strong hold.
still no news for new weapon. no news for new map detail. no news for extra weapon for each class. etc
and still have few more beta to run. and few more month wait after everything ready. maybe release on 2016.
I can go ahead and confirm one of those things for you. There are no new weapons in HoT.
I hope they DO bring back capes. Many fans myself included loved them… If you don’t like them you had the option to turn them off… that’s no reason that the rest of us can’t enjoy them in-game.
By that logic I don’t like greatswords so no one else should be allowed to use a greatsword. It’s just dumb if I don’t like a greatsword I don’t have to use one. No need to ruin it for everyone else.
/signed a 50/50 hom and gwamm GW1 player
That same logic can be used to keep capes out of games. “There are people who don’t like capes and resources should not be wasted making them. If you don’t like it then deal with it”
Same logic as you but from a different side.
If you wish to make a more glass cannon-y character go with ele. They have some pretty good damage and can be fun to play when mixing and matching your attunments.
I do suggest checking out mes though. They have a very interesting playstyle and while they may not pump out the most damage they can prove fun to play.
It has been three years already !
Capes with HoT or riot !Even better make them legendary capes and give them to us.
Clipping issues is no longer an acceptable excuse !
With kind regards,
Former Guild Wars 1 player.
I hope they do not bring back capes. I always turned them off because the clipping issues were very annoying. Clipping g is still an acceptable excuse.
With kind regards,
A former GW1 player
Looks Interesting. I wonder if that one section that looks like kitten with some kind of flaming dragon head looking thing is one of the main access points to traverse the multiple levels.
Looks smaller than I thought.
I know, verticality. And hopefully plenty more zones.
Where does everyone keep getting this only one map talk? I see it on the forums but no one has yet to provide a link where it was stated we only get one map.

….
Sorry but changing the hand a weapon is used in is equivalent to a new weapon. Take for example a thief. The pistol that is used in the main hand offers different play options than the off hand pistol. Just like with a mesmer a main hand sword offers something different from its off hand counterpart. Changing the hand makes a huge difference in this game. Besides if we really want to get technical then no spec is getting a new weapon. All the weapons the specs are getting are weapons that already exist in the game, they just didn’t have access to them. If you wish to talk semantics then no class will be receiving a new weapon.
I do wish for more information as well so I can understand the whole “less info = less hype” however I do not want them to start releasing info about things that are not concrete yet. While a lack of information does suck I would hate it even more if one week they release info on druids and 3 weeks later they come around and say “we decided to completely overall the druid” and then we have another wait on what the new info is.
I do wish they will get everything in a decent state to begin releasing info because in all honesty today’s post did feel like more of a recap instead of new info, but I do not want them to rush info and change halfway though.

It’s been mentioned before, and I’ll mention it again.
Making a suggestion for MH Pistol on Mesmer is fine, I’m all for it.But those people kicking off angrily at the Mesmer “only getting offhand Shield and two weapons skills!” in some of the posts that follow. We don’t know that yet.
All we know is that they are getting off-hand Shield. We do not know if they are getting a main-hand Pistol too or not. It’s quite possible. ANet just said one new weapon per profession (in this case, Shield). They did not say anything about reusing weapons the profession already has (don’t forget, Mesmer already has Pistol, just in offhand only) in different ways. Infact, they actually said they’d be taking currently existing concepts for weapons and classes and redesigning them for specializations, so hold your breathe and don’t just jump to conclusions.
Mesmer might still be getting a MH Pistol. Wait and see until there’s some confirmation they are not.
Sadly this is not the case. It was stated the specializations would only get 1 new weapon. Main hand pistol might be released as a spec later down the road just not right now. Lets just hope they role out more specs at a decent pace.
I mean I outright said I was going to uninstall because Anet doesn’t listen to its customers and I was going to wait until they actually gave more information on the specilisation to give them one more chance but no I am uninstalling based on 3 seconds of gameplay footage.
Don’t be so immature and insult people because they don’t worship your precious Anet and read my actual post before responding to me next time.
I did read the post. In it you stated that OTHERS are leaving due to a lack of communication and that is the mesmer spec is half as bad (using a little less colorful language than you in this case) that you were going to be uninstalling the game. If you wished to get across the message that you are unhappy with the lack of communication then next time clearly state that you are a part of the ones that will quit the game because of this, instead of saying others have and then make the same threat of uninstalling based on the reveal of one spec. Your current wording says otherwise.
Also just because I wish to hold my opinion about how good or bad the specs will be until we actually have real info about them does not mean I worship Anet. It’s called not judging a book by it’s cover. When the mes spec is released and it’s crap then I will say something but to sit here and say the spec is unbalanced and will be crap with my only source of info is a 3 second clip is just ridiculous. However if not making wild assumptions based off a 3 second clip is considered “worshiping” then I guess you can call me Pope Tasty.

Of course these hints could mean a lot of different things, But upon reading them the light of hope inside me from GW1 Factions lit up. Could GW2 introduce factions in HoT? I would think if they did it’d be based on the Personal story maybe Priory, Whispers or something entirely different. Who knows, what do you guys think?
Not likely. This game has not been about dividing but combining. We saw that in the game with uniting the 3 main forces of vigil, priory, and whispers. This will likely be the same. Looking for survivors, finding silvari that resist Mordy, and of course the races in the jungle.

This whole shield mess just proves that either the balance team don’t know what they are doing or that they couldn’t give a kitten about Mesmers and have no interest in listening to the people playing their game.
Its incredibly embarrassing for them, I already know people who are leaving the game because of their attitude. I’m currently just logging in for dailies just to keep up a bit on the off chance something amazing happens with the specialization. As soon as the spec information comes out and its as kitten as I am expecting, I’m uninstalling.
Or it could mean that you have no idea what changes are coming with the new healing, utilities, elite, profession mechanics, traits, and you are speculating an entire specialization will be unbalanced because of a 3 second long video clip that shows a mesmer with a shield. Then again seeing as how you are saying you are going to uninstall the game based off that 3 second long clip I guess a rational thinking is a little much to ask.
Rick Ross would completely agree with pear skins. Lets do it.

Actually there was only 1 GW expansion and it did not come with a new class or character slot. You’re confusing expansion with stand alone campaign. As for extra character slot there is no info yet. Maybe you will maybe you won’t.
You couldn’t really buy actual beta access with the original release either.
You could get access to the Beta Weekend Events, but those were more marketing stuff rather than actual beta tests. The access to the actual tests where never buyable. It is quite possible that they will do some similar things with BWEs for HoT, but we don’t know when.
Now correct me if I’m wrong because it was 3 years ago since I played the beta but wasn’t it something like if you were in the anet email system you had a chance to get a beta invite but if you bought the game you were guaranteed a spot. If that’s correct then we might get something similar this go around. It’s pure speculation though.
No problem lol. Although I did not receive an invite I’m pretty confident it’s just one zone but let’s hope they are generous and they let you check out more than that. I would love to know more about guild halls and specs. The fact that they have not really said anything about the content of of the test makes me believe there’s not much to it but here’s hoping
yeah, I figured as much, but I just wanted to get the idea out there.
I think the community would love to see more of the largos but we will most likely have to wait until bubbles comes around. The little we know about them says they’ve been pushed out of their homes because of bubbles. When the bubbles xpac comes then ask for them
