Something tells me that we’re not going to be able to take a sneak peek at the guild halls on Tuesday, are we?

For just 2 hours, I don’t imagine we will see the new zones either?

For what I understand you will have access to a new zone (probably the one they’ve been showing in the demos) but that’s probably it. It’s a beta stress test. The real goal is not “hey come check out this new stuff” but “hey come to this area so we can stress test our servers”. I know that’s how it was when they did a beta stress test for the actual game

The 12 skills is just speculation right now. We do not know if the ele will still keep 4 attunement or get something different or the attunement behave differently. We do not know how many skills will come with the specialization. It’s all speculation right now.

As for the power creep I doubt that will be the issue. The specializations are being used to fill a role that was currently unfillable by that profession. They are not putting in specs to fill a role that’s already filled. So when I spec ele I’m not choosing spec burst over normal burst but instead I’m choosing between filling a new role or playing the same roles as before

What role is the profession needing? They are one of the best damage dealer in pve, the most stackable profession in spvp, and they are the E in the GWEN of wvw (even though the developers don’t know what to do with wvw as the original design balance was never a concern now the are struggling to seize chaos on that from).

What role could be a variety of things. Maybe a more condition based role or maybe a heavier control role. I don’t know what role it’s filling but it is filling one that it currently did not fill. That’s what was stated in multiple interviews with Colin. They have yet to say anything different so until that day comes they are filling a role they could not fill well or did not fill at all.

The source of that statement?

I don’t need a link, just point to which interviews Colin stated that.

AFAIK, what the specializations will do hasn’t been stated, just that they will be able to focus on a role. I don’t think there’s anything in particular that Elementalist can’t do with their many sets of skills so saying “it will fulfill a role it couldn’t before”, you’d first have to find something they couldn’t do before.

I’m posting this on my phone and it has problems with copy and paste. I can tell you exactly how to get there though. Go to the wiki, search specializations, go to the bottom of the page and there is a link there that will take you to an interview with pc gamer. There are 2 questions that really focus on specializations.

For you one response states that specs will fill a role that the class does not fill.

For Jongi there is another statement that says specs will change the core mechanics of the professions

When I’m able to copy and paste I will edit the post with the link but I provided an easy way to find it.

Elementalists are getting 12 new weapon skills.

Every other class is getting either 2, 3 or 5.

Stop whinging.

Exactly even it the new weapon is only an off hand they would still be receiving more skills than those receiving a two handed weapon.

Unfortunately with the developmental history/preference of the player base I doubt any additional option will be used as they would have to be better than the ones already in use and that screams of power creep which at least at one point the developers/designers stated was something they wanted to avoid.

What exactly is a specialization? Thats what you have to ask first. When you specialize in something in battle, like a sword or hammer, why would you choose not to use it?

My guess is if you choose to use the profession specialization you will be locked with one weapon set being that weapon, why would anything else change exactly? If you choose to specialize with the necromancer most likely you will have to have a weapon as a greatsword just like if you specialize into the sword with elementalists you have to use swords, why would your F skills change? Thats 12 skills at the very least if you cant use a sword in the offhand not to mention traits and utility skills. What would you realistically change F skills to?

I think some people are thinking its going to be some radical change when most likely they are just going to be introducing new weapons with the specialization system. They probably arent going to change the core gameplay of the professions but build upon them with more choice.

Actually that’s incorrect. Colin has stated before the the profession mechanic will change as well. He stated the profession mechanic will perform differently or be replaced with something different. It will differ depending on specializations. Take the druid for example. We know we still have pets but we don’t know how they changed. Maybe you can channel nature spirits into your pet or something druid-y.

Until Colin comes through and says that profession mechanics will remain the same, we can say something will change.

I just not received the email inviting me to Beta and where as my husband and I were convinced that it wasn’t likely I would be picked… I find myself just a little jittery off this invitation.

So!

Um, never did a Beta before, a friend who has told me all I have to do is go in there and play but… Okay, is this true? All I have to do is…play?

And, um… are we allowed to take screenshots as keepsakes? lol

I just want to make sure of all of this, I don’t wanna end up doing something I shouldn’t be doing?

For the most part yes you play. As you play though just take note of any bugs or glitches you come across and submit bug reports when you find them. Like if you have to talk to an npc and you can’t speak to the npc or you go to play an adventure but it glitches out and you can’t complete it. The beta test are there to get player feedback on on the game so anet can make changes if need be

Ranger Pet Question

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ImTasty.2163

ImTasty.2163

Hello. Let me preface this with the fact that I do not want to get rid of the ranger pet. Ranger is conceptually everything that I have wanted in a class: nature-themed, pets, and melee.

That being said I was curious if anyone has heard anything about potential changes to ranger pets such as having more control/potentially a smaller pet trait line or some other mode of customization.

I want to stay ranger but in the current system I am no more attached to my pet than swapping out a utility skill. Engy is starting to look tempting to level before the patch if I don’t have much to look forward to.

Thanks!

Sorry but no word yet. We do know that specialization will change how the proffesor mechanic works or give you something entirely different. Since the video showed a ranger with a pet I’m guessing we will get some kind of change to how pets work. Maybe infuse our pets with the power of nature or channel some kind of ancient animal spirit like the non animal spurits.

There is no info yet about what we can do with pets but we do know it will be something different.

May I remind you of the different interviews about specializations. Colin stated that specs will change profession mechanics in one of Two ways.
1) the same attunement will be there but will behave differently or
2) they will be changed completely.
Now remember that the specs are not final yet. The ele spec might still use the same 4 attunements but they will work differently or maybe anet has not included all of the ele spec into the update so it’s not final.

Best thing to do is to wait until they actually release information about it before getting disappointed.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

ImTasty.2163

Specializations will give you a cess to new skills. It might be a give take situation though like in order to have the specialization utilities you have to give up some base class skills but I don’t think that’s been confirmed yet.

Don’t think that’s what they meant. They’re asking if we’ll get to have more than healing, Elite, and three utilities at any given moment.

I assumed OP meant more skills to choose from because we are obviously not increasing the number of skills on our skill bar. A net as always been about quality over quantity. They rather have players have access to a limited number of skills and create builds that focus on forming synergy between your skills instead of throwing every skill you have on your bars. That’s what a net as always been about and always will.

The trinity

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ImTasty.2163

ImTasty.2163

I think people have forgotten that these games are called MMORPGs for a reason. The R in RPG stands for Role as in you have a role to fulfill. This game is lacking Roles outside of the Zerker meta which is the reason why these threads have appeared since the onset of the game. They don’t have to make it mandatory but the least they could do is make it an option it’s not going to hurt the Zerker crowd in the slightest if they make it more complex.

They keep saying they want people to group well give people a reason to group that’s what people want.

After reading through not only this post but other post I’m just going to quote this one to save time.

There are so many things wrong with this first statement alone. The “R” in RPGs or MMORPGs has never once stood for combat roles. Has others have stated the role stands taking on the aspects of a person in game and playing as that person, such as the Legend of Zelda series. In fact many RPGs, like Zelda for example, require the player to think on their feet and say “what should I do in this situation?” Just because RPGs have went from table-tops to computers it has not changed what the “R” stands for. Just because I take an apple from America to Europe, it doesn’t stop being a fruit.

Second I noticed you said it works in other games, it can work in the game(paraphrasing). Just because some aspects work well in other games does not mean it’s something that should be implemented in all games. That’s why so many WoW clones ended up failing. They just tried to copy and paste the same formula that made WoW a hit and think it will work for them. Take a look at STWOR. The game was almost a direct copy and paste from WoW. Heck even some of the skills had the same name and description. Copying success is not always a guaranteed success. GW2 has made a claim for themselves with the “1 person plays all roles”.

While I will admit zerker is indeed the meta it does not mean it is the best. Meta here is simply what you can play that provides the most results with little to no work put into it. That’s why at the start so many warriors were walking around with full sigs with traits that gave them bonuses for unused sigs. This does not mean the other stat options are not viable. It’s just that there are people that would rather go with the easier option of “standing in one spot and auto attack” instead of playing something that requires a little more battle presence like a proper WoR placement or a well timed Time Warp.

The biggest problem resides in the over-world PvE. The mobs offer no challenge beyond auto-attack. Judging from a few interviews with Colin it looks like they are making changes to that as well. Hopefully soon people will begin to understand that raw deeps is not the only solution.

My hopes for mordremoth.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

ImTasty.2163

I wouldn’t have my hopes up. When Colin was asked (I think it was by AngryJoe), if we are going to fight and defeat Mordremoth, and will it not be as lacking as Zhaitan fight, he became extremely elusive, and did not answer specifically that question. Of course it would be EXTREMELY disappointing if we didn’t fight Mordy, but I get the hunch that we won’t, and the whole incident will be resolved with some Deus ex Machina tied to the story (if we’re lucky we’ll get a look at his corpse, or sth.)

Actually I think the opposite is true. When Joe asked about the Mordy fight in comparison to Zhaitan Colin responded, in an indirect way yes, with a yea we know we dropped the ball on that one. All he could say about the Z fight was that it “looked cool”. They are aware of the mistake made with the first dragon and are going to improve on it. To be honest I doubt he will mention anything about how the Mordy fight will play though. They were pretty quite about Zhaitan as well. In fact I don’t think we got any real info about Zhaitan until after people started fighting him.

No more Sylvari in HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ImTasty.2163

ImTasty.2163

So whenever i enter one of the major cities, there are people discussing the ‘fact’ that we wont be able to create sylvari characters once hot hits store shelves.
I honestly cant, under no circumsdtances imagine anet doing a thing like that.

So, aside from the trolls that just make up stuff as they go, where do people get that idea? Was there something a dev said that wasnt very cleverly worded, like the "better get a level 80 sylvari for the xpac’ and now people go crazy because they think "kitten, better get that saladman suited up in case I wont be able to create one once the xpac is there?

People get the idea from the story of HoT. They think that because a few slyvari go mad they think all of them are going to be mad and that we will have to defeat Traherne because he’s gone mad. It’s just like how there’s a thread about a tengu in a WvW screencap and people are going mad because they think tengus will be a playable race in HoT even though the devs said no new races right now.

My political hopes for HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ImTasty.2163

ImTasty.2163

Alliances returning but having no political atmosphere to them (no structure mainly) would just be an extension of the current situation guilds are in; a hot mess that doesn’t encourage people to log on daily, contribute, and rise up the ladder. There is no joy about rising up the ladder in gw2 like there was in gw1.

I’m sick of seeing All that karma/gold boost, which changes daily, and barely impacts much of anything. Even if you do get 1-3g more a day does it really mean much in the grand scheme? Will you look back, a year from now, and care? I CERTAINLY would look back and care about having “eye candy” (as you call it) because that reflects something I helped accomplish. Why do you think the Hall of Monuments was such a popular feature in gw1: Eye of the North? People could actually SEE their accomplishments as they were added to their hall.

I do think having access to so many guilds takes away from being excited about one guild. After all, why would you want to work your butt off to make a guild successful when you could just join a massive 500 person guild and keep joining others until you find one that is already built up? This doesn’t encourage the rise of new guilds at all.

I won’t lie, having my guild members get kicked by a sabotage hurt in gw1, but it was part of the game and I accepted that (it made logging on daily an interesting thing!).

In the end it doesn’t really matter. This is what I, at least 2 others in this thread, and I’m sure a good amount more, want and we have been deprived of it since gw2 launched. I love this game dearly, but this is the one major flaw of it imo. I’m REALLY looking forward to the new things they are going to add to guilds in HoT and I hope ALL my complaints go away

I will agree with you about alliances. If they can be incorporated into the game and have the same amount of value as they have in GW1 then I’m for it. I loved my alliance in the first one and would love to see a return of something similar.

The eye candy, which is what it is, is just extra fluff. I’d rather have more meaningful buffs from WvW. As it is the pay off is a a bit weak. I’d rather they focus on increasing the buffs we get from WvW first before adding fluff of statues, or memorials, or whatever eye candy you are asking for.7

As for the HoM yes it was popular but there is a drawback from what HoM did and what you want. HoM was for your PERSONAL achievements, not what the world as achieved. A better PERSONAL reward system can be nice, but it should be way down on the priority list for Anet. After all HoM did not come out until a few years after the release of GW1. I’d rather Anet work on more content, like the expansion we are getting, instead of accounting for more fluff.

As for the griefing you were talking about I will not support anything like that. It that’s what you want then I hope we never get anything like that and that your complaints will never go away.

TL;DR Alliances good, eye candy so-so, greifing bad, and fluff is not a bad idea but should come second to actual content. To recall GW1, the trophies I got for beating the Undead Linch, Shiro, and Abaddon would mean nothing if the fight to beat them was not fun.

My political hopes for HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ImTasty.2163

ImTasty.2163

That…sounds horrible though. Isn’t that considered griefing?

It is. What I got from this post is that he wants a return of alliances (which is actually a good idea), world based eye candy instead of the current system (getting gold increases and karma increases and etc) which I don’t agree with, and it sounds like he wants guild to be more restrictive in a claim to “have more pride in your guild” but from that last statement it would seem it wants people to be limited to one guild so it makes it more enjoyable to kick someone out when they have been lead to believe they are rising in the ranks (which is a terrible idea)

What about agony preventing you from doing high level fractals without getting the infusions? What about World Ability Points that improve what you do in WvW? I guess I just don’t understand why people are getting defensive about Mastery when the truth is Anet is not introducing something that’s a foreign concept.

Apparently all of the GW1 expansions which added new classes also included another character slot (or more) so I suppose its certainly possible and perhaps even likely.

Little clarification here. The GW1 expansion, Eye of the North, did NOT add new character slots. The stand alone campaigns(Proph, Factions, and Nightfall) added 2 character slots. Seeing as how this is an expansion and not a stand alone campaign I’m guessing no extra character slot. I would like it if they added an additional one but I prefer to err on the side of caution.

It bums me out that Cantha is still on the fence for being brought back in to the game. They used to have an actual Cantha district from the start. Here’s a link of what it was going to be http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:2010_May_Divinity%27s_Reach_Canthan_district_Polished.jpg

I know it was removed because of cultural differences (China did not like that their culture was being mixed with others) but from an interview from about 2 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=xWo8G0OJ0FM#t=6226s
they are trying to work out a way of bringing Cantha back. This was 2 years ago and hopefully they’ve made some serious steps to bringing it back. Cantha is a big part of guild wars lore and I’m sure the old fans of the series (including me) would love to see a comeback so lets hope they’ve reached a point where they can bring it back.

As for the log in bonus it does not reset until you claim all 28 rewards. So if you are on day 2 and you don’t log in until 6 weeks from now you will pick back up where you left off

Probably will see Elona first simply because we know there is already so much happening there. We have Palawa Joko running around, kralkatorrik and his minions, not to mention that lore wise Snaff and glint died there when Logan left Destiny’s Edge so that area might stirr up some more emotions out of DE espically from Zojja. Lore wise Anet has more to work with with Elona

Hey everyone. I’m currently looking for a guild to run dungeons with. My goal is a complete set of every dungeon armor. I’m hoping for a guild that runs scheduled dungeon runs such as runs AC 1 week then CM next week and so on so on. Please send me some PMs with info about the guild so we can have a 1 on 1 conversation about what your guild does exactly. Thanks in advance for the replys.

I have a question about the February monthly. In one of the notes they mentioned they will be instituting the option of doing from a list but not all of it. I assume it’s not February then? Or are the other options hidden right now?

They said that they will be adding an option to pick what dailies you want to do from a list. I believe the example they used was if there are 6 dailies you can just pick 4 of them to complete the daily. Not sure if it’s the same for m,onthly. I’m guessing the same and no it’s not in yet.

The monthly could be reduced to kill 1 rabbit and i bet there will still be people complainting.

This actually made me laugh a good bit.

A step in the right direction.

The reason we don’t have GvG is because we don’t have guild halls. GvG takes place in the guild halls. Once they are added I’m sure we will see GvG. It has nothing to do with WvW lol.

Never Doing Dungeons: WvW Still Viable?

Answer is yes. There is no real need to get the dungeon armor. Skill is far more important in this game than gear. If you suck not even the best gear in the game can keep you alive. If you are good you can trash people left and right.

New Dailies

I’m fine with most of the dailies, except for veteran slayer… anybody have suggestions on where to find large amounts of veterans in one place? Even though I am going for world completion right now I run into surprisingly few of these.

There’s a few areas. I know the human and silvari starting zones have veteran oakhearts. They have really slow attacks too so if you have the dodge daily you can take care of that as well.

The problem with Daily Dodge is that the definition of dodging is far too narrow. It requires you to evade an attack at the exact, precise moment it strikes.

It counts everytime it says evade. Block and glancing doesn’t count. If you dodge an attack and it says evade it counts. If it doesn’t then it doesn’t count. Simple.
