Ironically, this is the version I often see in Pug:
- A Thief exhausts all of his initiatives to spam pistol whip because he cannot survive and deal damage (seriously?) without it. Defiant Management means they will stay P/P and camp headshot then call it a day.
- A Guardian uses aegis selfishly and blatantly ignores the warrior next to him with 6 bleed stacks, 4 Burning stacks, 8 Vulnerability and 2 Confusion. Also the random Empower and flying orbs for flavors?
- A War camps long bow 80% of the time because let’s face it, it takes a PvE God to melee a boss in fractal with gsword (/s). Or when they do, they don’t dodge the obviously big attack and blame it to lag, bug, or BS. More notably, they would suggest to burn the last boss in the Dredge fractal with one bucket but proceed to camp longbow anyways!
- An Ele drops the ice bow, confidently runs next to the boss, unleash Ice Storm, then Volley, and then… Deep Freeze. What gives?!! Said ele also has the balls to tell people to stop melee the boss because apparently her Fire Ball damage is far more superior and it’s more important to walk the boss to a next bucket than actually trying to burn it.

To be honest, if someone has the gut to play Necro, Ranger or Engineer in my Fractal pug, I will take them more seriously than those people who join with a meta class and tell me to “chill, I know what to do in this game” when facing my questions.

I’d offer myself up immediately, but I don’t think you’d want to play with me in fracs. I’m average at the very best, and the few friends of mine that still play are kinda troll-ish and utterly burnt out – so most of our runs end up with lots of screwing around, joking and not so much speed. Also, neo plays on a potato.

That would mean you need to grind your fractal mastery to unlock +20, +30, and etc. agony infusions for higher levels.

Ascended armour = 30
Weapons = 10
Trinkets = 30
Only need 10 more from the infused agony slots between 3 pieces, getting 100 without fractal masteries would be pretty simple.

100 AR only takes you to level 70.

I doudt it will be 100 AR. If they keep the current table (need 15 additional AR for each new tier of Agony), this mean that we gonna need 130 AR for level 99 and 145 AR for level 100

Agree. I do not believe that level 100 would require 100 AR either. Higher Agony Infusion will require completing the mastery. As a matter of fact, someone linked me a datamined link for +30 agony infusion not so long ago. It seemed dubious but there are certainly something in plans.

Exotic back piece

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Iris Ng.9845

Iris Ng.9845

The crafted backs are only lvl 78 btw. so you can only put an lvl 60 exquisite jewel
into it.

They have better stats than a level 80 exotic back with a level 80 upgrade, though. So, there’s that.

almost

great ram lantern

+ ruby orb

= 50 power
35 fero
35 prec

crafted lvl 78 bersi

+ ruby crystal
=
46
28
28

Crafted level 78 berserker back item + Embellished Brilliant Ruby Jewel (don’t use unrefined/not upgraded crystals)

+53 Power +31 Precision +31 Ferocity

That being said, I do think you are right that the level 80 exotic back pieces (the ones that share the same stat options, that is) are higher stats than the level 78s, as long as they have the best upgrade. They must have buffed the level 80 ones to +30 for the main stat; it used to be +22.

Also, I believe you CAN choose Cleric with the lucky great ram backpack.

It happens since the June 23 patch; all of the stats bonus from traits were relocated to equipment, so exotic level 80 has a nice stats bump. Same happened to ascended as well.

Current level 80 exo backpiece (berserker) has:
+55 Power
+36 Precision
+36 Ferocity

Today I wanted to do the first part of CMP1 solo on Thief. Naturally after that I made a casual lfg to finish the path.

Near instantly my party gets filled with level ~50 characters, all with < 1k AP. I waited at the the barn when they bravely entered the mansion.

After 4 minutes they were still inside.

After 8 minutes they were all dead.

All leave except one who then gets enough courage to speak up. I showed him the way and then created LFG again. But that’s another horror story for some other time.

Think about someone getting revealed every skip and then you have to stealthresurrect everyone few times.

I learn from my experience that mesmer is naturally a better carry class in CM p1 than thief. You dont have to stealth your group and make sure they will not reveal themselves. Just tell them to waypoint and take your portal…

My opinion is regarding fractals:

  • Necro is the simplest to play well. It’s really hard not to play a zerker build. You have good damage and sustain.
  • Warrior is the class you should play if the group doesn’t have one already. It is also very simple to play well.
  • Guard and ele take more effort to learn but are strong classes that can carry your group.
  • Thief is excellent in a good group, but very frustrating when support is lacking.

My point is that we can learn a lesson: Don’t try to impose player-based rules where the game doesn’t support them. I believe it’s resulted in Anet pulling the plug on our instanced-team content. If people change their attitudes towards the ‘not-meta’ players, we might even be able to make this kind of bad behaviour become a rare instance.

So its all the meta players fault?

Because people don’t read?

Because people join groups knowing they don’t fit in?

Sorry, I don’t buy this.

It would be like me going to my weekly board game group and setting down with a group of guys who are about to play Settlers of Catan and throwing monopoly down in the middle of the table, then expecting those guys to play my game. Because its my “right” to be included in their group.

I agree with the bolded part in Obtena’s quote. This attitude also applies to people who are not actually playing the meta, but instead, still learning the ropes and even disillusioned themselves that they are representing the “meta players”:

I had a chance to play with Skady’s trio group recently in fractals. The run was smooth and it was a totally different experience. So, I brought up the topic in one of my chill casual runs with another group of friends. Immediately, the friends of my friend mocked her non-meta approach and associated “a healing guard” as an outrageous dead weight. Then we had Mossman. The most opinionated person in his zerker ele spent half of the fight running frantically about eating all the chop/ flying axe/ wolf bites and stayed dead. He insisted that the boss hated him and the aggro system must be against ele or whatever is at fault for his terrible performance. I wonder, had he tried a group like Skady’s, would he have changed his mind and acknowledge that there are many other possibilities? Instead of just blindly agree to any spoonfed information?

To Talyn, I see an equal amount of jerks who went into a pug group and insist people to do what they want to regardless of whether the LFG is asking for Meta or Casual (i.e. Non-meta). I see people joined a teaching run and wanted to make a speed run out of it. However, elitism only happens when someone thinks they are better than others. And why couldn’t they? When one can simply copypaste a meta build which is generally accepted as the optimal way of playing, one has the potential to be the best player they can be. But it never guarantee you the best performance in any kinds of groups nor situations. I certainly learn the best of my experience more from people who don’t play the meta. I suppose asking people to withhold their judgment against “Non-Meta” players to foster a friendly, supportive community isn’t far-fetched.

Now, if only the kids could stop arguing who is at fault first…

Iris Ng.9845

@bladex, @velarian, @jerus, @ finntastic – thank you so much for the feedback. I didn’t think I would get much on this, but I really appreciate it.

Right now, I am around level 15 fractals. Two of the people joining the group are new to GW2, but are very experience MMO players. Currently, we have Me (Guard), Warrior, Thief, and our Ele (she is thinking of going Mesmer). Based on the comments, Ele is ideal for the group, but Jerus mention they can be replaced with Thief/Engi/Mesmer.

@Jerus, don’t get me wrong, I love playing the Guardian; however, I also the like Warrior too. The downfall I see with the Guardian is I have to play a hammer & scepter/torch build (http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Guardian_-_Fractal_Hammer) over the GS, according to metabattle. I’m not big into the hammer, but if that is what is needed, I guess I will try it again! Is there a GS build I could use, or is it frowned upon.

Again, I really appreciate the detailed advice as it has helped me understand it better!

Do re-consider before switching your only ele to anything else. Its sheer damage, burst, cleave and solid utilities are incomparable. Don’t even replace it with a mesmer; the latter has neither burst nor cleave and requires a lot more patience and coordination for a long attrition fight. Thief and Engi are comparable. Mesmer is better than Guard because I’m biased.

Higher Level Fractal Group Makeup

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Iris Ng.9845

Iris Ng.9845

Hello all- The title says half of what I am looking for. I just recently obtain 4/6 ascended armor pieces and have ascended accessories. My friends and I are looking to progress through higher level fractals.

Part 1 of my question, is there a specific group make up (i.e., Warrior, Elementalist, Guardian, Thief, Mesmer)?

Part 2 of my question, can there be more than one profession in the group (i.e., 2x Warriors)? The reason why I ask is I am currently a Guardian. I sort of want to switch to my Warrior for fractals; however, one of our teammates is a Warrior. I am not sure if I would nerf the group by running as a second Warrior.

Any insights or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Part 1: No. There are no fixed group comps for Fractal but there are certain roles to fulfill.

  • Projectile Defense: A Guard or a Mes or both is preferred for heavy reflect fractals: Bloomhunger/Raving Asura/Imbued Grawl Shaman. Any other classes with their built in reflect can be quite sufficient anywhere else.
  • Damage Prevention: a mixture of Blind, Interruption, Aegis, Distortion. Any classes can provide these utilities to a certain extent. Some may be more investing in this role than the others but that doesn’t mean you need a Blind bot, Aegis bot to complete fractals.
  • Damage Reaction: a mixture of Condi Cleanse, Stability, Healing. If you can prevent most of the damage, these buff become redundant and so, it’s not necessary to have a dedicated person for this role.
  • Cleave: no matter how high your personal single target DPS, without enough cleave, life is gonna be very painful. You need good cleave at Mossman, Imbued Grawl Shaman, Cliffside and Weapon Testing Facility.
  • Skip: Improve your quality of life. It’s a mixture of stealth, blink, portal, traps, etc and the ability to solo certain puzzles. It’s recommended to have at least a person in the group knows how to do all the puzzles in fractals. You will save a lot of time there.

Part 2: Yes. You can run two Warriors and no Guardian. If you decide that a certain role is not needed, you can totally improvise your strategy to accommodate the lack of certain utilities.

For example at Raving Asura, we have one person pull him to outside the room and kite him around the pillar. The rest of the group can DPS down the kitty golems without being mindful about the reflect. We still needs to interrupt certain attacks of the golem though. It is more or less the same stealth strategy at Mai Trin.

Last Laugh - Advice?

Posted by: Iris Ng.9845

Iris Ng.9845

So, I’m going through Fractals in order with a group of friends and our next one to hit is level 39 with the Last Laugh instability. This one seems to be known as one of the (if not the) worst ones. In addition to any advice people have, I have a few questions:

1 – Does stability work to prevent the knockback?
2 – Do evades work?
3 – Can it be blinded?
4 – Does it help to have more people with ranged dps spread out?

1- Yes
2- Yes
3- No
4- It depends. You can range DPS if you can maintain aggro/snare on the group of mobs. It is painful in Cliffside when you don’t have much room to dodge.

Is it better to be ranged for Fractals?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Iris Ng.9845

Iris Ng.9845

@OP: Necro is the easiest class for you to stay in melee. Given what you said about your reaction and coordination skill, necro definitely gives more leeway to melee than the other classes. Its ranged DPS (Deathshroud) isn’t bad at all.

Also, one of the bosses that almost force you to stay within max melee range is Mai Trin. So do consider the benefit of melee.

A couple of thing I would advice against melee is:
1. When the bosses are obscure by particle effect. For example, Archie, Mossman, Ashym got covered by tons of Guard’s Burning, fake Deep Frozen, etc.
2. When the bosses have unique anti-melee mechanics. For example, Ashym’s Meteor Shower, Grawl Shaman’s Push when not properly max melee. (Sometimes it’s not your fault; if your party members, pets, clones are causing issues then it’s not worth risk it.)
3. When cleave is highly dangerous, the boss’ attack has max range and wide angle. For example: Dredge boss, Mai Trin. Unless you can secure an extra block/evade/invuln and understand the boss’ aggro, don’t risk facetanking it.

Ropechef! I can’t promise I’ll be available, my group have been greedy with my time lately, but please hit me up anytime, I love running with you though it’s been few and far between and I’ve always left hungry. I remember running with you and Ivan and salivating over the discussions.

Promise? (very angry and malicious wink)

Oh Ivan!!! I want him to sing La Donna e Mobile for me!

In Canada, we wink and smile at strangers on the street. We say good morning to the folks drinking tea from their gardens in pretty sunshine.

There is one time during the summer, I passed by a beer garden smiling like an idiot (don’t remember why) and a guy (probably drunk) raised his beer to cheer for me!

Back in university, my prof would often include emoticons in his replies to my text/emails and sticky notes.

I always take a wink as “Oh, you! giggles”.

Every little things count. In my group of friends, we have the DPS meters, and open the Combat log to observe our performance. As soon as you start questioning yourself: how to get an even bigger number, a better buff uptime, a smoother no-damage-taken encounter, a safer rotation, a better but riskier rotation, a confidence to say “I will not die as a ranger. Ever.” (- Jerem) and a confidence to carry… you are learning a lot in the course of becoming a great player.

People here can give you tips, but only after you know what needs to be done to improve your performance. Don’t sell what you like short, just yet. Unless you are Gabo. At his level of skills. But that is another story /o\

Footnote: Jerem is the first person who inspires me to play a ranger with his overflowing confidence and exquisite Subject Alpha solo (at that time). Lorek and Cell show that rangers have many tools of trade and they make it fun soloing Arah as a ranger. Langrim always amazes me with his crafty play; he can burst down CoF gate and Brie in 3 seconds and make every meta tryhards to eat their words.

I’ve got a copy of the ones from CoF, CoE and Arah in this year. So in my experience, they still drop.

I’ll make it short – as I’m not capable of writing a novel unless it a structured scientifikittenerature. Firstly, I agree with Wethospu, Jerus and dlonie. Secondly, in my experience, I have not posted as much and as cheerfully as I used to be. During the course of change, I find a lot of topics have become quite disagreeable to me, but I’m not going miles to wage wars and fight for my own justice. However, if there are posts which respectfully deserve attention yet buried in tons of ill-willed, snarky, raging, trolling, passive-aggressive replies, I’ll come to their defense and empower them – for Lilith’s share, too.

Last but not least, I am far from a part of this dungeon and fractal community. I’m happy as an outlier, I speak for myself and for my casual friends who never ever post here and I wholeheartedly support people who come to learn.

The problem I have is: Every time I play my ranger in a bad or mediocre group, I feel like I’m not contributing anything to help the group suck less.

And every time I play my ranger in a good group, I feel like I’m being carried.

I’d honestly play my guardian more if I could figure out how to not suck at playing guardian.

Funny, do you give your group fury? Do you give Vuln? Do you give both Vuln and Fury whenever your guard and/or mesmer use their WoR or Feedback at Lupi? Do you know you alone can gives them 15 vuln, aka. 15% more reflect damage?

Have you tried to burst CoF console? Brie? reflecting Legendary Jotun? Have you tried to manage defiance without a thief? Have you tried kiting Mai Trin?

Excuse me if I miss anything from your twitch. Which facts are you talking about?

are you just another illiterate white knight?

It is true that I missed the paragraph of you expressing how badly your group performed yet still matched the time proposed by Skady’s trio. But hey, 30 minutes or less isn’t the entire point of her setup. It’s also about being smooth without wipe, enjoyable over friendly bantering on TeamSpeak and above all, being comfortable with any players she plays with. Alright, that was actually what I planned to reply to your post. I would have said some more meaningful things. But then the word “illiterate whiteknight” puts me off. So, in order to let your point come across, it’s necessary for you, as an individual, to talk down to someone else, as courteous as I can with some nasty words like that?

Keep your elitism close.

Illiterate
adjective
1.
unable to read and write:

You missed the (most important) paragraph of his post, respond to him while ignoring that paragraph, and then blame him for calling you Illiterate?
I’m not saying you’re not able to read, but it sure looks like you weren’t trying to

I don’t take the time to thoroughly read what someone else is saying but I expect not to get talked down on, stupid elitists!

“Illiterate white knight”

“you missed a paragraph I wrote <insert quote here>”

Both would have sufficed to inform her that she was mistaken. Maybe we aren’t full of elitist jerks but just people that have no tact at all? It certainly can get hard to understand someone’s actual meaning through an onslaught of sarcasm, hyperbole and extreme language.

I actually got shocked at that insult. Or maybe it’s because I wasn’t taught to speak that way in my culture so … shake my head.

Bleed was nerfed before. There wouldn’t be any un-nerf without a seriously good reason. Look at Lightning Flash, or Ride The Lightning your many favorite things. Forever banished.
