The other day I was thinking about rolling a second mesmer for my main alt… 8D
(Other professions aren’t nearly as fun to play!)

THIS, so very much, I really want to see what the leveling feels like now that I know the class so much better and the nerfs hit so hard. Also, I often go super tanky Phantasm build and just run around seeing how many of the enemy team I can get to chase me before they finally take me down. “Catch the Mesmer” is the best game since “Catch the Teemo” you should try playing it.

We also have our own wvw variation on “Where’s Waldo” :p

I sometimes feel guilty shooting a little asura straight in the face with magic bullet.
Never stopped me though :p

Why do you need to hop on the threadmill? those few % increase in your stats won’t make you a better player. Skill in this game is still more important than stats.

You have a choice, have fun while playing with rare/exotic gear.
Or be bored and miserable while grinding for those few extra % stats for months.
By the time your grinding is over and you get your precious gear you’ll be so burned out you don’t even want to play the game anymore.

That’s good, you shouldn’t be grinding for any of those anyway.
Just play the game and keep some things, sell others, eventually you should have either way too many gold or too many resources and you may think, ohwell maybe i’ll slap together this legendary anyway (this could be years from now :p).
It’s a lot more fun that way, and you always having something out there that you can look forward to.
Grinding for all that just destroys your own endgame.

We didn’t loose any top guilds, we just lost a lot of wvw players and wannabe wvw guilds.
What true top guilds would be afraid of a challenge?
You won’t learn any tactics by rolling over your opponents every week by having superior numbers.
That’s why many of the guilds that left left while FSP was doing bad, they couldn’t make a difference and searched for a place where they didn’t need to make a difference.

As an FSP player i can say that matches only get nice the lower tier we go.
The higher the tier the more zerg it will be. And be honest, who likes the zerg? People only like the zerg on the instant that they win, if you loose it will be because of culling, portalbombs, aoe limits and all that.
I prefer smalller scale wvw gangs of 10, 15, 20 ppl max.
No culling, no portalbombs, or at least not as devastating, no issues with stacking up zergs cause of aoe limits.
And gates don’t act like they are made of paper, seeing a zerg drop 4 rams on a gate and knock it down in 1 minute, what’s the fun in that.
I’m staying in FSP even if we have to fight vabbi every week

Many people also don’t think much about what they buy and consider the most expensive thing as being the best. Therefor even more people will start buying it thinking it is the ultimate rune, and prices keep going up.
I prefer to get some special abilities from runes, stats are just stats.

I’ll start building the oil from now on

I also don’t like having conditions on me as it is what hurts me the most on a toughness build.
I opted for having sigil of purity on my staff, since i also have high precision it means i usually clean one condition about every 10/15sec on a crit.
Sure one isn’t much, but if that is an annoying cripple or chill, or a huge stack of bleeds you are thankful the sigil is there
I’m also thinking of getting runes of lyssa. The extra precision and cond duration fits my builds. And all conditions are removed on an elite skill activation + you get all boons . And since i use mass invis when roaming thats every 90sec, should become a good save your kitten skill :p

Apart from the skills you mentioned there is also the mantra that removes 2 conditions.
If i carry one of those skills it is usually null field since i can also use it as a combo field , free chaos armor, hurray

28) Thou shalt not engage in random fights when thy zerg is quickly moving to a new location. It slowest thou down and makest thy zerg loose momentum.

FS usually doesn’t have que’s anywhere at primetime either.
And in the rare event that we do, it’s on our border or EB when we have noone else on the other borders.
This week and last week we also never had anyone on the other borders, apart from a few small incursions that is, but no standing army if i can describe it like that.
So the fact that we can barely fill 2 maps is very real.
Just remember that enemy zergs always look bigger than they are cause all enemy minions also wear a name tag like players.

Clones do no damage early on, you’ll see 0 damage pop up everytime.
Once you level up that 0 will turn into some low number.
This is where the fun begins, now that they do some damage they can also hit for critical damage and apply bleeds if you have sharper images. Not all clones are useful on their own though, staff and swordclones can be usefull to keep as they apply conditions.
Other clones are just shatterfodder.

And most importantly, play and learn your class, as a mesmer (and other classes prolly too) you always keep learning

My crowd control usually involves having crippling dissipation slotted.
Since i’m sort of a clone factory the mobs are all nearly perma crippled; allowing me to whittle them down with more conditions, mainly bleeds and some shatters and blurred frenzy, chaos strom.
Pistol #5 also allows you to hold them down while you do your job

Right now i actually don’t like just fighting one mob, it feels overkill , unless its a big target where i can stack lots of conditions on.

At the moment i arrived at a 10/20/10/0/30 build for wvw and pve
Using precision/condition/toughness gear, staff, sword/pistol.
It allows me to switch traits and utilities around depending on the situation.

When in small fights or roaming i go confusion shatter with feedback, mirror im, blink.

When in zergs and castle defense i use the traits in illusion: glamour blinds, blind causes confusion,+ 33% longer confusion, and use feedback, nullfield and blink/decoy.

They allow me to drop down feedback and nullfield on the attackers that blinds + confuses them + the fields own mechanic aswell, feedback becomes very nasty.
Doing a combo of feedback, chaos storm, nullfield on a bunch of guys hugging the gate will show you numbers flying everywhere
If only i still had my berserker to finish them off :p

With 20 in domination you could even take confusing enchantments for even more nasty glamour fields.

Its by no means a perfect build, its just what happens to work for me at the time being.

Luckily it’s just a ranger, otherwise he might have been dangerous :p

The game isn’t balanced towards small man groups, its not as bad as WH was but still anet missed the boat :/

O hi btw i was in Eva Vix but i joined Boonies for GW2

I beg to differ, there’s nothing a 5man cant do that a zerg can (apart from fight other zergs).

Its down to player choice/skill.

Its ultimately easier to follow around a large force farming tokens than it is to run small scale where winning requires more on skill.

We managed it in Warhammer despite guilds like KDS trying otherwise, and it was mostly a success.

As we drop through the tiers the small scale becomes better and better, was great 2 weeks ago v’s Kodash and another server I cant remember.

Augury rock, the french if we don’t get our act together and cap more stuff we’ll meet them again in tier 5

Bifrost would look nice, aslong as you don’t have a male mesmer that’s going for a grim duellist style look :p

Well if there is a russian guild on FS i havent seen them at full force yet.
Everyone else is doing fractals atm. We barely have people on now.
Big difference from 2 weeks ago against kodash and augury, then we had people on all maps at a time like this.

FS is still there, if you want to see us, look for something blue, that’s not a lot atm

Yep it’s true, if you already have 25 in illusions it’s silly not go to 30.

This is a non shatter build i am using at the moment.
Atleast i don’t shatter then with shatter skills, i let them shatter on death.
Unless i would be in a very bad situation i can use distortion shatter.
So everytime they get killed, they are overwritten or target dies i do a bunch of condition to them and cripple them.
My targets are practically always crippled cause i pump out so many clones and phantasms.
Also the clones themselves are very nasty, staffclones do their own condition + more bleeds from sharper images, and the swordclones do vuln + bleeds.
Because of my high precision they crit a lot.
Having this much conditions out makes the warlock have stronger attack.
And the duellist just spams stacks of bleeds, do a combo with feedback and he’ll stack some confusion aswell.
This is mainly a pve build though, i have no idea how good it is in pvp.
Also need some further testing in wvw.
You can also switch the pistol for a focus if you prefer playing that.

If you are just starting out with a mesmer, don’t look at builds too much, just play and get used to the playstyle and skills.
And try out all traits and see what they do, eventually you will find your own builds you are comfortable with. Seeing someone rolling multiple people with builds on youtube videos is nice to look at, but if you don’t feel good playing it it will be a bad build for you.
I’m sure all those great players often got their kitten kicked while trying promising builds that didn’t work out afterall

Yeah, I’ve been playing a tanky build since I got to 80, and it’s a blast. Good luck trying to hit me, but if you do my toughness is +1700 so it’s not going to hurt that much. Plus my condition dmg is +1300, so I can bring the pain too.

Class is a blast to play.

A little off topic, but 1700 toughness is nothing. I have 1800+ on my glass cannon. 3000+ in any star is considered high. 2500 or so is a moderate amount.

Do you mean toughness or armor? Cause i have no idea how someone would get 3000T , even with T trait, weapons, armor, trinkets, runes, … perhaps i am missing something

Well the trinity isn’t dead, every character just has a part of the trinity and can choose which part to focus on more.
In a party there will always be a best healer, best tank, best dps character.
But there will not be a healer, tank or dps character by it’s self.

The trinity stems from the fact that these are fundamental needs for this kind of game.
It’s all about having your health bar outlast the opponents. That’s done by avoiding damage, soaking up damage, dealing damage faster, healing your damage.
In case of mesmer it’s mainly avoiding damage due to fast mobility, clone distraction, boons.

You can’t say we are giving up, the FSP people who post here are exactly the ones you face on the battlefield, if it wasn’t for us you’d have nothing to do at all, we are still there
But if you go overkill with 10 omega’s off course it may seem like there’s actually no one defending at all, we died in one second :p

SFR just is a higher tier than us, no question about this.
You would do just as miserable if you were dropped in tier 1

If you deny that zerging hasn’t atleast a major effect on the outcome then you’re living in lalaland. Due to the fact that wvw populations are not balanced it’s always the server with superior number that will win, sure you might win some fight when outnumbered, but those events are not enough to turn the tides.
Superior numbers also means you can hit multiple targets at a time giving the defenders no option but to give up certain locations.
Add in having a big nightcrew and the scores will be pretty screwed up.

wvw doesn’t reward people on low (wvw) population servers who fight equally hard as their opponents who outnumber them. A snowball effect occurs with the weak just becoming weaker as the week continues, ruining the fun for all servers really.

With the nerf to GS ive now been forced to use a shatterbuild for wvw since i can’t do squat at sieges now anyway :p
And it works very nice, the burst is indeed very sick, even though i dont have decent gear yet, still running with lvl 60/70 yellow gear and green lvl80 trinkets. Shatterbomb is nice to make small groups flee in different directions so teammembers can pick them off

Can’t wait to see the carnage when i get good gear for it (and runes of air to annoy those thieves).

Just a note, id prefer people having respect for their opponent, without that opponent you have no wvw, people doing stupid emotes on your corpse after facerolling a keep on autoattack is just wrong, spread the word

There’s always one dominating server, the rest fight for scraps.
Our last match with kodash and augury seems to have been a very exceptionally close match 3 ways, equally strong opponents.
So i think a lot of the dissapointment comes from the fact that this is way less exciting than last match for us FSP.

It doesn’t matter what tier we are, having a good fight is the important thing, whether its 50 vs 50 or 10 vs 10.
And we can’t win em all right

Let’s just all fight as good as we can and keep it fun
Seafarer’s lead now, but i’m glad to see even you don’t have 24/7 coverage so at least we can fight back.

It seems like their first priority for making guild wars “Is it fun” has gone out of the window now.
Yes it was fun to do a castle siege, i had something to do, troll some people on the walls with berserker, i wouldn’t be downing any unless they had like 10% hp left.
Now i’m left running supplies.
The only damaging thing we have left are a feedback bubble with confusion glamour traits to fight someone on a wall, this however needs you to be traited specifically in this way to have anything viable to bring to a siege.
Is it fun? sieging the gates feels more like a chore now.

If only the last file isn’t 3 GB it will all be fine

Add in some confusion glamour traits and you’ve got a very nice AOE

It’s a great matchup, very evenly matched, it’s gonna be a thriller who get’s first place, fight till the last hours
And i hope augury doesn’t throw the towel yet, we need 3 way battles

lol at the monty python scenes, i was actually thinking about it when we were attacking stonemist castle lastnight, with all em french taunting us on the wall

And for the russians leaving, i never knew the russians, only been playing wvw for a few days, never could be bothered to do so earlier cause of the huge queue.
And i guess there are many other people that are playing wvw now for thesame reason.
So we have a lot of inexperienced people running around.
But still we do well in primetime.

Just make it so that there is diminishing return in points for the amount you have captured. That would make that holding 50% of a map for most of the day more valuable than holding 100% for the night. That doesn’t discriminate between what timezone you play in, but does reward the server that can hold it’s ground the best at peak times when there is a fair matchup.
