Death match is the reason I won’t queue unranked. That’s a pity because I have always liked Skyhammer. Death Match is a poorly made map and there’s no strategy in it at all.
If I wanted to play zerg , I’d go to WvW and pick up a K train. Some like that game mode, but I don’t feel it fits in pvp.

I really like my Venom Share support thief. Poison stacking was needed for quite a while and I’m glad it’s here.
I think the new condi is great. It removes Berserker from Overlord and levels the field a bit for other play styles.
Thank you for that ANET.
I just came from a match in which an MM necro challenged me ( on Mesmer ) and talked a bunch of kitten about how he’d stomp me.
When he lost, he called me a “scrub” and claimed I was playing “the most broken class in the game.” He went on to say that we would be nerfed and that I should “uninstall.”
This is illustrative of why people are hating Mesmer at the moment. They simply aren’t used to the easy kill being competitive. Y’all need to learn to play against a Mesmer that isn’t going to automatically fold to the first damage spike.
Disclosure: I’m not playing PU. I’m running a confusion shatter build.
Blind on shatter is one of a precious few defensive abilities that Mesmers have at the moment.
Heal on shatter was gutted as was chaotic dampening.
Mesmer was the first class to see the nerf hammer and has likely been hit the hardest. I sincerely think this is a learn to play issue.
Thieves have multiple un-aimed AOE blinds. Guardians have blinds, Ele’s, I believe engi… Why is it OP for a Mesmer to have blinds again? The question becomes more relevant when you consider that it’s available less often than a thief blind.
The combination of more useful conditions and class changes has given Mesmers a real chance. To classes that are used to being able to virtually auto kill a Mesmer, this comes as a shock.
Mesmer has already been stripped down hard. Removing blind on shatter would make PU condi and interrupt the two useful builds. Imagine the volume of the cries of “OP” if most Mesmers were running PU.
Realistically Mesmer finally has a survival chance. Thieves have an un-aimed blind and invisibility readily available. Blind on shatter is actually harder to use than pistol 5.
ANET already ripped the guts out of Chaotic Dampening and heal on shatter, Not to mention power block,
There is no need whatsoever to hit Mesmer again. If thief aoe blinds aren’t op, then neither are Mesmer blinds that are harder to produce.
I think this is basically sour grapes because people are surprised to lose to a Mesmer.
My mistake. I believed trash talk from the Ele. I offer my apology.
It feels weird for me to say so.. but I have to admit, rangers are hurting atm.
Mesmer finally has some parity and I’m loving that.

I just met the same ele in another match. This time he didn’t have another ele with him. The condi worked fine. I blasted him repeatedly.
In the first match he made a claim to the effect that he could cleanse all condis, in map chat.
Maybe it was the combination of the two Ele’s that was giving almost constant cleanse. I don’t know if he was playing the same build as last match.
I just came from a match in which I was able to stack exactly 1 confusion on an elementalist.
I’m running a confusion build Mesmer and using glamour blinds. I was not able to get a blind.
Shatters did nothing.
Scepter 3 failed to stack a single confusion. Scepter auto attack no torment whatever.
Chaos Storm also failed to add any conditions as did the staff clones.
It’s pretty clear that this is broken. ANET please chill out the 100% uptime condi cleanse. It makes Ele’s a super tank.

You’re talking about an interrupt build. Yes, interrupt hits like a truck “if” it’s timed right.
Yes it dies very fast too.
Remember, interrupt only works when you channel a skill. It takes real skill on the part of the Mesmer to pick the right moment to interrupt and have clones ready to shatter. I have no problem with that being rewarded, even though I’ve been power slammed a couple of times.
Well said +1 ^^^
Mesmer has been overnerfed. I’d just like to see the bleeding stop before we are third tier again.
I like the new condi, it gives me (on Mesmer) a reasonable shot against Wars and thieves. The complaining reflects a need to learn defense.
he was running longbow and bear. So I guess it’s bait the condi cleanse and hit him again like turret Engis.
I for one am glad condi is finally fixed. It’s about time players needed to think about defense, especially against a class like Mesmer.
This is a clear troll post. Mesmer has been underpowered literally for years. The OP is simply not used to Mesmers not being an easy kill.
OK so Rangers are laughing off condi bursts and maintaining 7+ stacks of might. Is there a counterplay for this?
Just giving the thread an illusionary bump.
I vehemently disagree. Mesmer has seen more than enough nerfs as it is.
There’s a new setting in the options panel, “lock skills at maximum range.” This setting automatically extends ground targeted skills to max range if they are not aimed.
This is a boon for skills like [Blink]. Just set your cursor in the direction you want to go and hit it. You’ll automatically be sent to max range. It makes fast escapes noticeably easier.
Didn’t think I was likely to say this, but, GG anet.
Yet, we still have “skilled” Mesmers calling for nerfs on forum. I don’t undertand that at all. I think we’re in for another multi year spell of being underpowered.
I really liked Healing Prism. It felt like I might survive a CC/spike combo. I’m disappointed that anet undercut it. I can’t help feeling that anet wants mesmer underpowered.
Still, reading the forums, there are a number of people pushing for nerfs and a harder to play class. That’s just totally illogical to me.
My “agenda” is what I said. I’d like the Mesmer class not to be nerfed so much. I’m finally having a good time in my 3rd or 4rth year of play.
@ Ross Biddle
I quote you; “The average mesmers will find themselves in a world of hurt (and run back to whatever it was they hid behind before) while the pros will have to continue to keep their Mesmer game high.”
Wow.. that’s quite an attitude. You must believe you’re a top class player.
Entertaining that for a moment: I think a reasonable person would have to agree that the game shouldn’t be oriented to hyperskilled players, unless it wants to alienate the majority.
I’m an “average” Mesmer (with more than 1700 hours on Mesmer alone ) and I’d like not to be nerfed so much, even if it pleases the top players to make the class hard to play.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
I’m hearing about multiple additional nerfs. The heal on shatter and a “support combo?”
I am deeply sorry I bought the HoT expansion. I just wanted to have a good time playing my favorite class. This cycle of buff and overnerf just depresses the kitten out of me.
Why do I even play this game? Bleh
@Landhere
I agree, the tendency to way over nerf Mesmer is all too evident.
True enough, MI has a much larger radius.
Being called “OP” is sweet music to my ears. I’ve waited so long.. still we’re not really OP, other classes simply haven’t figured out that they need to have a defense.
I’d say:
Leave PU alone. It has a place. I’m not playing it atm but it’s appropriate for Mesmer and will be an excellent tool for making us relevant in dungeons.
I’m loving the new Inspiration. What a revelation to have some sustain.
Not tried the new Mimic
Love that Time Warp is now a glamour gives me a reason to use it instead of Moa.
I’m winning some fights v. other Mesmers. Skilled? Yes! and very fast.
Absolutely loving having some success as a Mesmer at long last. My big fear is that the nerf hammer phantasm will appear and shatter us again.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
@Baylock
I think I was that “Beginner” Mesmer. The real problem of PU is not the long duration.
The issue is that you can stealth your entire team for 10 seconds, allowing a stealth nuke.
The way you were playing it was to stealth 2 or 3 players who would then jump on 1, (me) and yes, with multiple players bursting from stealth, you can 100-0 someone before they can even press a button.
If the extra duration did not affect others on Mass Invisibility, I’d see nothing wrong with this build.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
OK, I will publicly acknowledge that I was out of control there for a bit. I don’t know why.. perhaps it was the confusion stacks.
I apologize for that. I hope the community will choose to let it pass.
Mesmer suddenly got fun. I’m deathly afraid the nerf hammer will crush it.
The wings are flexi prims. I’d rather see them flap. The coding for that is done, as the holographic wings flap. Other than that they are ok except the way they tend to fold on jumping.
@Soggrade
Sorry you have encountered only that side of the community. Queens are the way they are deliberately. It’s a performance thing. A few even make good money that way.
Most of us would like to be invisible or at least unnoticed. By unnoticed I mean not having people turn and leave the locker room when I enter. Not having them ask my what’s under my skirt because “I have to protect my children.”
It’d be lovely to be an ordinary second class citizen, just the way many other women are treated.
The level of discrimination produces a reaction. Hate makes hate. Drama makes drama.
Please do know that most of us aren’t tv personalities or drama queens.
@Harper
For the same reason neutrality isn’t good for any serious issue.
Ask Neville Chamberlain if neutrality and “Peace in our time.” worked out.
HINT: It didn’t, the kittens invaded Poland launching WWII.
If you choose to be “neutral” then you are by default supporting the status quo and therefore not neutral.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
@Raesin
I’m fully adult. Yes you have Free Speech, right up to the point that you infringe on the rights of others.
The problem here is this; Having had surgery and lived more than a decade in my chosen gender, there are still places I don’t dare go in this country ( the USA ) and walk down the street. I would be risking my life.
In many places a job would be utterly out of the question and I’d face all sorts of discrimination if I requested help such as a homeless shelter.
Guess how I know this?
The Supreme Court ruled long ago ( in the case of the Rastafarian Church ) that you have a right to any beliefs you want. You do not however have the inherent right to practice them.
The reality is that ANET did a nice job of dealing with a sensitive subject. The outcry over it shows some deep insecurities.
No neutrality isn’t a good position at the moment, when in many places my life would be under threat simply for who I am.
ANET has a long track record of including pop culture in areas of the game. I’ve heard quotes from movies like Star Wars and Jurrassic Park among other things.
Caittlyn/Bruce Jenner recently popped back into the public eye with her gender transition. So, it’s logical to see the mirror in GW2. I’m really pleased by the choice of words.. She needed to live as herself.. wow some understanding.
I’m reasonably sure that the TOS mentions hate speech. Homophobia is hate speech by definition.
As a Post-Op T woman, I am surprised and gratified. It’s really nice to get some positive portrayal.
Thank you ANET.
The idea of dodgeable blind on shatter makes no sense at all and it would trash one of our major defenses. This idea was not well thought out at all.
@MailMail
I don’t agree. Your wording, “you Mesmers” implies that you are not a Mesmer. Historically, Mesmer has been over nerfed for a long time. So if you wish to be “fair”, you would do well not to advocate nerfing Mesmer now.
shhhh please. We’ve already seen the nerf bat. Let’s keep the good reports to a minimum and hope we don’t get overnerfed again.
Scepter is doing well for me, with a condi-shatter build focused on building confusion.
Please don’t tell anyone though, I really don’t want to see it get the nerf bat.
@PyroAthiest
I’m angry that Pyro is advocating nerfs. Sure, you may be a great Mesmer and find the class too easy to play now.
On the other hand, I’m finally having some fun playing shatter. Please don’t advocate nerfs. I think you’ve really lost perspective Pyro.
@Sigmoid Yes I did say rapid fire is broken. Now I have a counter for it.
Deleted because I need to throttle back a bit
Mesmer got better at actually LANDING shatters because we can survive long enough to do it.
Your counters are what they always were; stances, shield skills, dodge, stun break, condi cleanse. and probably more.
You really do need to learn to play. Think about defense, not just popping off your rotation as quickly as possible.
WarlordOfChaos is indeed advocating nerfs… but I think he is dead wrong and very much in the minority.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
Learn defense, use a stunbreak and some condi cleanse instead of simply running whatever the burst combo of the week is.
Attacking destroys stealth and makes the Mesmer vulnerable. So run some defense and a stun break and attack when they are revealed.
This is really crying because the defensive options were always there. The other classes simply didn’t need them in the past.
I do main a Mesmer and have done for much of the past 3 years. I don’t run a stealth spec. I’m using Scepter/Torch and Staff in a condi shatter build.
Mesmer is no more “over the top” or “ridiculous” than any other class. The others are simply not used to Mesmer being able to actually land the attacks instead of needing to run away all the time.
It’s time to learn some defensive skills. The interrupt builds only work if the other player plays in such a way as to give openings. Stealth trades away a major amount of damage for defense.
Shatters still don’t work particularly well and are easily dodged. Learn some defensive skills instead of complaining.
The issue is that classes that believed they were highly skilled now have to learn defensive skills instead of simply popping offensive combos.
I understand that the zerk gravy train has been the status quo for a long time, but it’s really time to learn to play.
