I’m encountering players who consistently stop mid match in pvp if they don’t feel their team is adequately performing. I have a screenshot of one in particular sleeping.
Is this a TOS issue? and how can I report it?
Ranger pets are once again seeing right through illusions. The Hambow got nerfed and was apparently replaced by ranger longbow.. It’s back to choosing wether to be killed by the bow or the pet. The longbow is too strong and too fast and needs to be dialed way back. The pets need to be fooled by illusions or I have no effective defense at all.
I’d like to be able to create stats of choice, even if it meant long grinds for recipes and / or materials.
Make it a high level crafting thing.
While I’m talking about it, some stats are seldom if ever used by other than new players. I’m thinking of healing, for example. It might be worth looking at buffing some of the existing but little used stats or otherwise making them more attractive.
The conversations with the NPCs in the Black Citadel are much improved! They didn’t use to differentiate Char and non Char. I also like the aides -de-camp.. very realistic military.
Nice detail work, ANET. Kudos.
Stealth doesn’t break combat and CM npcs see and attack straight through it… was it your intention to destroy thieves?
bump bump bump, up it goes.
I’ve been trying to get those amazing shatters I see on youtube. Practicing on target golems in the mists revealed a consistent 920 ish damage per clone on shatter.
I’m running 4/4/0/6. S/S and Staff. Generic shatter build with zerker amulet. Energy and purity runes.
However, using the f3 shatter and stacking Vulnerability, I got numbers above 4k for damage from the sword and the f1 shatter becomes a gravy finisher.
It seems that the huge damage numbers aren’t coming from the shatter clones, but are indirectly caused by them.
I’m NA on DR. Thank You for the offer, I’ll gratefully accept. Give me an idea what times are convenient and I’ll make an effort to have net access then.
Thanks for much material to look at. As to effort.. I’m currently level 36 in pvp and have an 80 in every class.. and 3 80 mesmers. I also get consistently flattened by other Mesmers.
I should also say that I have received some help and that was very good. Still, I play Mesmer for the love of the class despite the regular hammerings and I would really like to be more successful.
With respect to YouTube and Dulify, I have several times heard a new player on map chat say something to the effect “wow, really?” when they were pointed out.
I’m not a dumb person.. I simply hadn’t heard about forums/YouTube/Dulify until I’d already struggled in game for months.
I do maintain that ANET creating a face roll Mesmer style is a direct result of new players not getting help and re rolling to other classes.

I’m still struggling with ANET text formatting. So, yes the outline form looks weird.
That was a bit of hyperbole. It is true though that a 2nd level Mesmer could block an attack from an end game 80 Warrior. ( assuming it wasn’t an unblockable ).
I agree that in a pvp environment, block/dodge/evade isn’t a panacea. It’s certainly helpful though.
This post was aimed primarily at new pve Mesmers.
I’d love to expound, but truthfully 90% of the feedback I get from other Mesmers is negative and usually without any useful advice.
Some fellow Mesmer beats me in PVP and proceeds to tell me some variation of “l2p” then leaves.
That’s useless. I guess many of my peers are member of a secret society of the initiated Mesmers who know how the class “should” be played…
because the community has failed to make this “higher knowledge” accessible many have trouble playing as Mesmers. Anet being a profit based company naturally decides to dumb down the class for the casual player. Thus, the community itself is responsible for the creation of a very easy to play Mesmer option
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
I hate the class divide among Mesmers. I do have a GW1 Mesmer and have been playing long enough to have about 9k achievement. I also play on an old laptop with often crumby net.
Then I go out and do something that is regarded as dumb and get told something like, “You ain’t no Mez,” (sic)
There are no schools. It’s rare to to find someone willing to teach.
If you don’t like the new changes to scepter that are coming out, look in the mirror
A new Mesmer has zero chance of getting on the high and mighty tier and is mostly on their own.
Thus ANET needs to make a faceroll Mesmer build available. That’s partially the fault of all you “experts” out there.
//end rant
agreed. Although I don’t understand why Mesmers would cry about finally getting buffs, unless they actually play another class and are trolling.
Leveling my second Guardian for a change of scene, I had an inspiration. I realized that I was not dodging or blocking effectively 98% of the time. After some practice, my (then) 5th level newbie Mesmer was able to go toe-to-toe with a level 8 Ettin and drop it without taking any damage.
This may seem trivial to experienced players but I wish someone had pointed it out to me a year or more ago.
Ithilwen’s Training Method;
I Preparation;
a. Equip weapons of your choice.
1. Torch and Greatsword are poor choices for this task.
2. Staff will be at it’s best if facing multiple opponents.
b. Open the combat channel in chat. This will give you feedback.
c. Travel to a suitable target farm. I like the Ettins Southeast of the Windmill King
skill point in Queensdale.
d. Turn on skill 1 Auto Attack.
II Practice;
a. Single out a target and lure it. Stand right in it’s face.
b. The target will likely attack as soon as it arrives. As soon as it’s attack animation
begins, hit 2.
1. Use the number buttons. Mouse click is slow and awkward for this.
c. If you have timed it correctly the enemy will have taken damage and you will not.
d. Some seconds will tick while you watch your toon auto attack. The enemy will
begin it’s next attack animation, hit button 4.
1. See C above.
e. Both of your defenses are now on cd. You have three basic options
1. Swap weapons.
2. Dodge using the dodge button. Double click is too slow.
3. Use your F4 shatter as a defense.
f. Rinse and Repeat.
III Conclusion;
a. Correctly timed, Dodge and Block are incredibly powerful. A newly rolled 2nd level
Mesmer could withstand the attack of a pimped out 80 warrior with a legendary
weapon with sufficient skill.
Please give this a try and feedback.

If by “we” you mean elite players that have been Mesmer since beta and/or GW1, then we don’t need a buff. Casual players do though as do WvW players.
Mesmer Torment will be nasty. However, for people new to the class or fighting in WvW it will be a real boon. While I agree it will edge on OP, Mesmer needs an easy mode. If it’s too easy for you go play Shatter or Lockdown.
I support the Torment while acknowledging it will be pretty easy to play.
Make a main hand whip. The Lightning Whip is extremely popular with Ele’s and a similar
weapon was much sought after in City of Heroes.
I’ll add my voice to that. I’d love to be able to buy Countess Anise’s armor, Light of course.
Wow, just wow… another home run. Excellent storytelling. I can hardly wait for the next episode.
I haven’t gone home in my lingerie from a fight in quite a while.. It might have been a tad much for the dragon to wipe me in the first 3 seconds of the fight.
Ascended coat and Leggings(pvt), Light of Dwayna ( soldier ) and everything else pvt with Dolyak runes. The dragon flattened me in two moves… that might have been overkill guys.
That worked, thank you.
I’d like to play through the living story, but have not gotten the mail to initiate it.
I was levelling a new toon and opening her weapon skills. So ended up playing scepter/focus.
I got three stacks of Confusion in rl when my iWarden not only consistently attacked but chased an enemy a short distance, then attacked. I didn’t test to see if traited reflection works yet.
Can anyone confirm? Going to try Illusionary Elasticity and if that works, I’ll buy a lottery ticket.
Provisional Kudos to ANET.
All of you missed the point. The major defense of the Mesmer is to confuse the enemy. Ranger pets destroy that because they are never confused. All the Ranger needs to do is launch the pet in the right general direction.. and everyone in the area knows who is the real Mesmer. Kiss your defense goodbye.
My clones lose interest in a target if it gets x distance away. Beside which, it is absolutely OP to destroy my main operating method by giving the Ranger an infallible method of finding the “real” Mesmer.
That’s a BS cheat when that bloody longbow is already far too powerful.
Ranger pets ignore Mesmer invisibility and clones. So, they always point out the Mesmer. They also have really excessive damage and will follow you across a pvp map… Wow I wish my clones tracked half that well.
INSTANT NERF TIME.
Mesmer has been repeatedly crippled and many of the traits don’t work as advertised. In some cases they don’t work at all. I bring a knife to a gunfight ( playing Mesmer ) in PVP because I like the class certainly not for any advantage.
If you want to PVP, play a water traited Ele… massive tanking and massive damage.
Necro has some mean builds as well. Fearmancer and Minion Master are both strong.
Mesmer is already skimming the surface of being non-viable. Neither of those invisibilities last for any substantial time. Both are already on longish cooldowns. If you Q.Q Mesmer…. you simply can’t play.
At this point I don’t have much confidence that ANET has an intention to help Mesmer. Any rework tends to make the class weaker.
Anyone who thinks PU Mesmer is an auto win.. hasn’t played a Mesmer lately.
bump bump bump bump
I like and use MoD. The CD is a tad long.. I’d like to see it be unblockable or last a bit longer once it hits.
Except that reflect fails most of the time and the Focus Phantasm doesn’t work OR reflect. I lost interest in WvW. Mesmer doesn’t have the damage or survivability to be fun.
If you target a Mesmer and turn auto targeting off, Deceptive Evasion does not remove the target from the real Mesmer.
Is this new?

I say again, Warriors are disgustingly overpowered and ANET makes a habit of nerfing anything that beats them.
Learn 2 play, no play a real class that can actually be beaten on a level playing field. Wars are disgustingly overpowered, the fastest players on the field and have superior heal. anet might as well just give them a “win” button. Besides that, every class that can beat them gets nerfed.
The warrior trolls keep trying to take it off point. Warriors are far too favored. Rangers can easily wreck me before I can get into attack range if their multiple pets don’t get me first.. gods I wish Illusions worked that well.
Buff us in the next patch? In an OK place? ha ha ha.. thanks for the laugh, brightened my morning.
bump bump bump…..
This is a pure Troll post. Mesmers being called OP is laughable. As to Moa.. it’s hard to finish a cast and gets evaded 50% of the time anyway.. and if you do succeed it’s too short.
I can’t think of anything you could do to make Mesmer OP at the moment. Null field is yet another on the long list of stealth nerfs, oops I mean broken skills.
A warrior’s bane? Mesmer? Now I know you’re simply trolling to support warriors. You have 0 credibility.
As to Mesmer balance patch.. ANET has done nothing but break things and stealth nerf for months. The best Mesmer can hope for is not to be crippled too much more.
Warriors are obviously the favored child of anet. If anything they are even worse after the latest patch.
Warriors were already too strong by half. I hit a warrior tonight with three full shatters, multiple interrupts and a moa and blasted the heck out of him in between with everything I had…..he still easily killed me.
Now rangers are easily interrupting most skills and killing before I can get into attack range, if that is that I can get past their multiple pets.
This patch is totally in the wrong direction.
I don’t see why Warriors cry about anything. I see them getting loved with every change. The class is way too forgiving and way too easy to play. Yes, I have an 80 in every class. So, yes I know what warrior plays like.
I have to go with that’s snarky denial. The fact of the matter is that Mesmer is way underpowered and ANET has loved on Warrior yet again.
I play reasonably well. There’s not a reason in Tyria a full 3 shatters shouldn’t have knocked down a player. This is especially true since I was blasting away and interrupting between them.
No learn to play is not an appropriate response.
Warriors were already too strong by half. I just hit a warrior with three full shatters, multiple interrupts and a moa.. and still died. Why not just call the game Warrior Wars because that seems to be the intent.
Rangers are just beyond the pale. Too much range multiple pets and way too much DPS stealth and mobility as well… just finish it and give them death shroud and an ele staff.
Back on topic, I’d like to see extra illusions slots as a general buff.
I don’t see why 6 illusion slots would be a burden for ANet or OP.
MM Necros commonly run 6 minions ( counting the blood pet ).
It would take major management to use them effectively.
As to healing; Mesmer has very little condi removal ( without accepting major penalties ) and no extra health bar ala’ necro. Thief 2 shots are a common reality not to mention war immobilize followed by that stupid sword burst.
