I don’t honestly know, but guessing: I supect the potions work.
No, excess points do not appear to transfer. It would be illogical if they did, imo.
I’m opposed to anything being buffed or made to work better on ranger until the excessive longbow is fixed.
In my view, people kittening about Mesmer or Thief simply don’t have experience in PvP. I’d appreciate it if people actually tried out ideas before presenting them here.
Mesmer is my favorite class, PvE and PvP. Thief is a close second.
Having said that it feels as if ANET dislikes Mesmers in general. The nerf hammer falls the moment we get an edge anywhere. Warrior Hambow went un nerfed for months it seemed. Mesmer PowerLock was nerfed in minutes.
I don’t see any real advantage to playing Mesmer in solo queue, no special talent that is really impressive. When I play Mesmer I go in knowing I’ll probably get beaten up pretty good. The only real reason to play a Mesmer in PvP right now is because you like Mesmer.
Shatter can deliver a lot of damage but it’s very easy to miss and hit like a kitten.
-addendum- Clone Death Condi with scepter / torch / staff will work ’ some ’ of the time but you will lose more often than not 1v1 and you will almost certainly lose to a thief.

I disagree totally with the posters who claim this is about “pay to win.” My main Mesmer is in a full set of ascended armor. It took time and salvage but I’ve never ( that I recall ) bought gold.
Making Ascended gear is frustrating and time consuming. Just wait till you start on Legendary and have to grind out those Mystic Clovers, 2 at a time.
I definitely would not like to see a dedicated healer class. Guardian fills enough of that role. It would also throw off all sorts of balance.
For example: I feel Warriors have their heal cut down right now to the far upper reaches of what is reasonable. Now, add a heal class, a turret engi and a guard and you have a group that could tank the Claw of Jormag.
Heal class didn’t work well solo in City of Heroes and I think it would cause a huge balance headache because the presense or absense of a healer would make a huge difference in her teamate’s survivability.
I would tend to oppose most ideas that had a religious sounding name. So as a suggestion, find a better name than “Holy Trinity” so it’s not an instant turnoff.
@AdaephonDelat.3890 No, berserker or any other “build” is not a gear set. It’s a total package with traits and combat routines.

It’s been my experience that all of those classes, (played well) are tough to kill in PvP and do a lot of damage.
Shatter Mesmer has an amazing burst. Ele stacks boons, Thief backstabs for a heavy burst and I play a Condi Necro. I can often melt a guard or engi in seconds if the situation is right on Necro. That class is also good from the survival viewpoint.
If new.. thief is probably hardest to survive. Ele probably the easiest.
Rangers rank fairly low on my personal list but they are easy to play enough to get along. They might be a good entry level class.

Ah, ok. Thanks folks.
How can I see the name tag for my ’toon?
Someone in PvE told me I had a “star” by my name in his viewer. What, if anything, does that mean? I plead the fifth in advance, I didn’t do it, nobody saw me…
Every race has been corrupted to some extent by dragon minions. Witness; The Inquest, Sons of Svanir,Nightmare Court,Flame Legion and Minions of Zhaitan.
It will be interesting to learn why Ventari planted and nutured The Pale Tree.
Before I comment, GW2’s current storyline is just blowing me away. I love it. Having said that;
I solo’ed the S2 Storyline on my main Mesmer. She’s in full ascended gear (including trinkets) and carries ascended staff and greatsword.
She is a fairly strong fighter. I didn’t feel heroic at the end of the Mordremoth Shadow Dragon fight so much as I felt battered and maybe a little abused.
It wasn’t an issue with the mechanics, they were pretty clear from the start.
On the one hand this story is about epic heroism. So, challenges are needed and expected.
On the other… well I think that the idea of setting up fights for groups trying to get achievements has ratcheted up the battles too much. I was actually angry by the time I got finished. Too much pounding.
@Vain.3805 It’s true that many aspects of the game are clearly created for groups. It’s also true that the game is about heroism.
There is something about the whole process of gathering a group to make a task easy that is anti heroic to me.

I liked Raid on the Capricorn. It would be nice to see it back.
Of course, I like Skyhammer also. shrug I’d like to see Courtyard go bye bye.
I agree, additional sorting by win rate would be an improvement.
Ranger is already far too strong. Any buff to them needs to include a huge nerf to the longbow and the pet. A reduction in the time of Entangle wouldn’t be a bad idea either.
I find myself liking K&M very much and wanting to protect K. They are well written and compelling characters.
It seems apparent that homophobia is a central issue here.
Thanks for that. I didn’t know that lore. The feeling was inescapable though travelling through Glint’s lair.
In one way turret engis and LB rangers are two sides of the same coin. At close range, most classes will likely lose to a turret Engi. At a distance, a ranger can use their pet and longbow to wreck most classes.
In both cases here is a class with an obvious niche situation in which they will probably win.
In the case of a turret engi. The answer is simply to range them. So I don’t see that as excessive.
Different story with ranger. Two common counters are suggested: LOS and reflects. There are serious issues with both ideas.
I can’t cap a point without being open to long range fire. That’s the reality. There is not a single point on a single map that is not exposed. ( arguably, Skyhammer A and C are somewhat sheltered ) Thus if I use LOS to save my skin, I cannot help my team.
Reflect lasts a very short time. Feedback has a limited range and therefore cannot even be invoked on a sniping ranger. Necromancer has neither reflect nor stealth. the ranger merely plinks away before and after the reflect. This is not a valid defense when a ranger is out of weapon range.
Longbow arrow damage scaling up with range is illogical and in direct defiance of the laws of physics. It should scale down.
Reverse the scaling and the problem goes away in large part.
wavy lazer sounds like the shortbow that fires unicorns. A legendary I believe. “Sticky bombs?” Caltrops maybe? Sword/dagger thief with uncatchable traited and a legendary shortbow might answer that description.
Sticky bombs could also describe gunk stolen then used on the OP
I looked into this issue when I was considering a name for my Norn Engineer; Syph Raffendottir.
There are several alternative ways of spelling this type of name. The OP bases the comment on Icelandic. I don’t see any logical connection of Norn to Iceland.
In fact, they came from Frostgorge Sound as I understand it. Mainland Tyria.
I wonder if the OP is covertly complaining that Majory and Kasmeer are not a “traditional” couple?
—edit — I for one would love to be present at their wedding celebration. This is the 21rst Century.
They are pillars of the story line and in my opinion very well written. I’m hoping to be present when Kasmeer is officially welcomed back into the nobility.

Wow, just wow.
I am just back from Glint’s lair. I was reminded very forcefully of Vassar in GW 1 and of GW1 Mesmers in general.
As a Mesmer I was well, mesmerized. The personal story line is worth the price of the game imo. Another home run. The story writing crew should be commended.
Let’s see, 6 gods.. 6 dragons. I strongly suspect that Lyssa and Glint are connected. Rivals? Aspects?
Is the absense of the gods the unbalance mentioned in one of the Priory books I browsed?
There are lots of juicy possible story lines just in this episode. I note also Majory using the Greatsword.
Finding the gigantic statue of Abbadon in the Priory was an eye opener. It is logical. I doubt the Sylvari are the only faction hiding possible mixed loyalties.
Less pleasant; The aspects were excessive. It took me over an hour to defeat the malevolent memory. I understood the mechanics, that wasn’t the issue. It just took an excessively long time to make it work.
Anyone who can honestly say that shatter Mesmer is an easy mode in regular ranked PvP has my respect.
This looks very much like a Troll post to me.
@Kreed
Your comments are based on a false premise. You claim that other classes have range abilities similar to Ranger. That claim ignores the fact that Ranger has the greatest range by a significant margin.
Your comments about the other classes are therefore invalid.
I play condi Necromancer at the moment and not glass at all. It is my considered opinion that ranger LB is OP and that in combination with immobilize and the pet it creates a major troll class.
This is based on long observation and playing the class myself. The range and damage are excessive. In practical game effect, they go beyond even the pre revealed stealth backstab.
The ranger lb is worse because it permits the “player” to kill from almost absolute safety.
I maintain that scaling the LB damage down with range would be logical and appropriate and it would discourage some of the more cowardly gameplay.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
I seldom play unranked, specifically because Spirit Watch and Courtyard are included. I’d definitely like to see the mass slaughter game mode have it’s own separate queue.
Yes I have and do occasionally play turret engi. Players on this build are a favorite target for me when playing condi necro or condi mesmer.
Typical battle flow: fear the engi —> engi is traited to get boons on hit —> corrupt boon —> Signet of Spite —> dead engi.
I really think you’re barking up the wrong tree.
Thank you for admitting that the LB is in fact broken and that it is in fact exploited by rangers. The rest of your comments are distraction and an attempt to divert.
For the record my win rate has increased by a couple of percentage points but again that’s beside the point.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
FYI, I’m Dragon rank and on the leaderboard at the time of this reply. I’ve also played a number of games on power ranger. The build straight off metabattle.
There’s not a “l2p” issue here. That’s empty snark. The fact is that the ranger LB is OP has been OP and will continue to be OP.
The new “meta” is to stand well off til the guard engages the enemy and then take cheap pot shots from out of range.
If I attempt to close I get killed by the players close up. If I fight close up and am a little weakened or CC’d by the near enemies, LB 2 is a oneshot from a range that I can’t possibly retaliate at.
It’s just basically a cowardly play style and I dislike it intensely.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
At the moment I’m playing Necromancer. Hence, I have no reflect. No stealth. No means of breaking entangle and no means of dealing with a sniping faceroll ranger when I’m needing to deal with other opponents close up.
Let’s not forget the guided missle pet.
No, I just honestly don’t feel turret engi is OP. They have no real range and often are weak to conditions. The engi has only limited control over the turrets and the turrets in turn have quite limited range.
I don’t agree that turret engis are a problem.
Power LB ranger is about the easiest class in the game atm. Just stand way out of range and wait till your teammates show up and engage. Then press 2 to win.
I can usually get a turret engi with either condi necro or condi Mesmer. It does take a while.
The Combination of OP longbow and immobilization makes the ranger a faceroll class. I go out of my way to stomp rangers whenever I can.
SUGGESTION: In RL a longbow arrow shot with a normal trajectory ( not an indirect fire trajectory as in [Barrage] ) loses energy rapidly. Sure one might fire a longbow 200 yards, but the arrow might be catchable in the hand by the time it got there.
Scale LB damage down over range as it should logically do.
I’m hoping that the feature pack comes with a healthy downgrade to power ranger. It’s seems ranger is anet’s current golden child. I target rangers above all others in pvp and they significantly reduce my enjoyment of the game.
I keep encountering a player from a specific guild. He consistently quits a couple minutes into the match. This is particularly true when a member of his guild is on the other team.
He’s been reported for botting at least 20 times by me personally and many times by my teammates, yet he keeps showing up like a bad penny.
Having this guy on our squad means an unoffical 4v5.. Is there some way I can report this jerk and have it heard?
Many guards I encounter in PvP will load up all their boons. (this is funny on Necro, because you wait for it and hit them with Corrupt Boon ) . On the meta battle condi build I send in clones and dodge to replace them if needed. Dodging pops the clones for AOE condition hits.
Guards load up boons then slaughter the clones. They often go down fast as the boon stack falls.
Another very effective strategy against guards is to MOA them. Then hit with your attack while their defense is shut down. Just be careful to hit the Moa when they aren’t actively defending e.g. with a meditation or aegis.
Most of the time, if I hit the moa, the guard is toast.

what do you mean it doesn’t sound Mesmerish? it sounds totally Mesmer.
Here’s my Mesmer must have for the week; It’s a reprint of “Franz Anton Mesmer His life and teaching” originally printed 1920.
Let’s see yours.

I’m going for Exploration. Legendary is a legendary grind and I’m hyped about the idea of hangliding.
While I haven’t played pvp in GW1, I have played the pve side. I much prefer GW2 combat and skills.
I did like that all classes could carry all weapons. Would love to be able to play the “classic” Mesmer that was allegedly so fearsome.
I won’t agree it’s easy to play Warrior. Coming from light armor and medium armor I find it really difficult. They are capable of a busload of tanking and damage though.
I suspect that ANET buffed side skills hoping to tone down the use of longbow 2 on ranger.
NERFING LONGBOW AND PET is badly needed.
Rangers aren’t in the meta because they are seen a one trick pony cheese class. It’s that they have too much power, not too little.
The same happened with HamBows. People stopped wanting to play it because it was too strong.
Looking at the balance patch made me sick to my stomach.. You are going to BUFF Ranger? that’s so ridiculous I can’t even express it accurately.
Unranked is not the same play. If it’s anything like hotjoin it’s too chaotic to play well.
In addition to that, it’s inferior by definition.
It’s the attitude I object to.. making airy condescending suggestions to “help” while actually ( and not very subtly ) claiming to be a superior player.
If you want to help, teach, the way I do in dungeons.
Yet another elitist post. It’s all fine and dandy to espouse Ayn Rand social darwinism when you win often.
However, I’d be willing to bet that the most gem store purchases come from pve and “bad” players like me.
I’ll laugh when you’ve driven all the players away and you can enjoy the last day of the game and congratulate yourself on finally getting the play level you wanted.
LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO PvP in Star Trek Online (non existant )
LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO CITY OF HEROES ( deceased )
I consider rank important. If nothing else it’s a measure of pvp experience. I’m winning less than 40% of the time and consistently being matched with pvp 80’s which makes no sense to me whatever.
To be perfectly honest, I’m sick of losing and it makes me feel bad to get hammered flat. Further, I suspect that the low population is a direct result of people coming, getting hammered and / or laughed at and leaving.
As I’ve suggested elsewhere, matches should be based on win / loss status. That way exploiter groups and extremely good players will be matched. That might shake out some of the premades.
Btw, I’m rank 67 at the moment.
I’d like to see teams go away completely. They ruin the matches and drive solo’ ers away.
I seem to be caught in a recursive loop. I get matched against teams and 80’s. My win/loss is less than 40% yet I keep not losing MMR and so.. keep getting matched with the super players.
Does anet honestly believe that 30+ losses in a row ( at one point ) is going to motivate anyone but a masochist to keep playing? No wonder pvp population is so low.
Balance matches to win/loss. Then the super players and the farm teams can go play with themselves.
This will discourage some of the exploitation.
Favorite is a toss up, Thief/Mesmer.
Least favorite: ranger for sure. Overpowered and a one trick pony. ( even if it is a totally OP trick, namely longbow RF )
I’m finding Smoke Screen useful v. rangers and engis.. rangers seem surprised when the rapid fire burst fails. They then send pet. I do my best to kill it. This also seems to catch them off balance.
A few wars and guards will even stand in the the field like a dungeon boss and try to hammer you.
