I could use some help. Was working on lupicus today and my dodge button wouldn’t interrupt my 100 blades. Is there a way to fix this, or will I have to double tap. Thanks!!

What exactly are you scared about? Being “pigeonholed” into a select way of doing things isn’t exactly what this thread was about. The regulars on here have this discussion after thousands of runs, and strategies have been perfected by said experience. The general community, outside of these forums, agrees with the experience and tactics demonstrated by the elite dungeon runners and attempt to mimic them to victory. Sometimes, these tactics, due to a lack of skill by the players, get people killed.
There is absolutely nothing to be scared about however. You are more than welcome to form your own groups and experience dungeons how YOU want to. No one in this game is forcing you to do what they do, and if they do, you shouldn’t be running with them.
As previously stated however, these tactics are very sound and have been tested ever since the game launched, and since ANet hasn’t changed the AI in dungeons, they’re still sound today. They work, which is why they’re so common.
If you and your friends want to learn, I definitely recommend signing up for the Dungeon Mentors guild. It’s stickied on the front page of the forums. There, you will learn from some of the best dungeon runners the game has to offer. They’ll teach you how to make these dungeons sit and do tricks at your command. And the mentors don’t bite.
Hard.
At first.
All in all though, keep your mind open and learn. Then come back and discuss what you’ve learned, and if you’ve got a different opinion or strategy and can back it up with demonstrable proof, people will gladly help you.
Per request: Much ado about staff guardians
I do much wonder that one guardian, seeing how much another is
A success when he or she dedicates his behaviors
To maximize efficiency and dps , will, after he hath
Laughed at such perceived shallow follies in others,
Become the argument of his own scorn by failing in the very same pursuit:
And such a player is one who carries on as a staff guardian.
I have known when there was no skill with him
Save for the 12 stacks of might and pitiful healing
That was granted onto fellow players that did not stack might;
And now had he rather hear the sound of his own minuscule voice
Proclaiming that staff guardian is useful
outside of open world PvE farming
and Twilight Arbor :
I have known when he would have solely used his staff auto attack to
Prune the venomous leaves in the abode of the Nightmare;
And now will he lie ten nights awake,
Arguing with better players about his relevance.
He was wont to speak plain and to the purpose,
like an honest newbie or one who was trying to be better;
And now is he turned wormtongued ;
his words are a very fantastical banquet of rhetorical instances,
Just so many strange dishes of fantastical conclusions and leaps of logic.
May I be so converted and see with these eyes?
I cannot tell;
I think not:
I will not be sworn, but the almighty hand of the Berserker
may transform me to an oyster;
but I’ll take my oath on it,
till he have made an oyster of me,
he shall never make me such a fool.
One guardian wields dual staves , yet I am well;
Another spends hours at being my nemesis, yet I am well;
Another pretentious, yet I am well;
but till all graces be in one armor set,
only its ascended quality shall come in my grace.
Powerful it shall be, that’s certain;
Precise, or I’ll none;
Ferocious, or I’ll never cheapen it;
Fair in form and in dye, or I’ll never look on it;
Of great value, lacking the binding of soul,
and its hue shall be of what colour it please the first wife.
Ha! The Prince and Monsieur Berserker!
I will hide me in the hallowed arms of the Trinity
And pray to it every day
For its blessings are great.
Thank you kindly miss!! I’ve got lots ready for another one of these kind of threads. I’m thinking…. Richard III next? Idk… So much to choose from and no modbot “kittening” anything!!
How about…. Much Ado? Second favorite ^.^
Oh, I know about the efficiency of staff guards anywhere in Pve other than TA. Inefficient.
As for your build, I honestly cannot wrap my head around someone thinking guardian staff campers are pulling just as much weight as a meta build (even a necromancer I’m sure! As long as the staff camper doesn’t know how to use their support utilities). Damage wise. Which is why I assumed. But yes. I know what happens when you assume.
I’ve got the PERFECT monologue from that
I guess years as an opera singer force you to become accustom to Shakespeare.

I’m telling you Lilith, it just may work….
Othello-
And what’s he then that says I play the villain?
When this advice is free I give and honest,
Probal to thinking and indeed the course
To win the DPS race again? For ‘tis most easy
The inclining staff guardian to subdue
In any honest suit: it’s framed as
The ease of breathing air. And then for it
To win the DPS race—were’t to renounce its lack of dps,
All useless utility skills,
That it may pug, run with guildees, do what it list,
Even as its appetite for superiority shall play the god
With its weak function. How am I then a villain
To counsel all potential dungeon runners to this parallel course,
Directly to their good? Divinity of hell!
When devils will the blackest sins put on,
They do suggest at first with heavenly shows,
Of stories of camaraderie in dungeons,
Of helping stack might to 25,
Of granting swiftness while’st skipping,
As I do now: for whiles this honest fool
Plies the staff guardian to repair his fortunes
And it for relevance in dungeons pleads strongly to the Berserker,
I’ll pour this pestilence into his ear,
And by how much it strives to do groups good,
Staff guardian shall undo its credit with the forum goers.
So will I turn its fictitious virtue into pitch,
And out of its own pretentiousness make the net
That shall enmesh them all.

So happy someone got my random Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice monologue!!
You just might be the genius we are all looking for.
This is on par with swifty ’ s patch notes, if only I had read the merchant of Venice…
I read so much. I think I should take a break from GW2 and crack open my Shakespeare collection.
High praise coming from the Goddess of Fashion herself
I’ve got an idea: Every time one of these threads comes up, I’m going to re-purpose some Shakespeare. If logic, cold hard facts and demonstrative proof do not convince them, maybe the eloquence of The Bard will? I can do it in Italian too if that’d help!! crosses fingers
Probably not, as they can’t read a three word LFG post, much less Shakespeare.

That’s another dungeon I’ve ran!—a staff guardian, a cleric, who now has to hide his head on the graves of Arah, a pug who used to look so smug in front of the other anti-berserkers. Let him think about his own utterly miserable dps. He liked to call me an elitist; let him think about his debt to me in carrying him past Lupicus. He used to speak so highly of his skill as a favor between forum goers; but now, let him think about his own debt.
I’ll use his tears for fish bait. You can’t drink tears, but if it feeds nothing else, it’ll feed my laughter. He’s insulted me and cost me hours of frustration. He’s laughed at my attempts to make him see the futility of clerics, made fun of my berserker’s gear, attempted to humiliate my fellow berserkers, thwarted my attempts at logic, turned ANet developers against me, riled up my enemies—and why? Because I’m a Berserker. Does not a Berserker have HP? Does not a Berserker have Power, Precision, Ferocity, 10 skills on the skill bar, dodge button, and consumables? Does not a Berserker kill the same mobs, get hurt with the same Agony, get sick with the same poison, get healed by the same utility skill, and warm up in the glow of shines and cool off in the lack of dev communication like a staff guardian, bearbow ranger or rifle wielding warrior? If you prick us with torment, do we not bleed? If you knock us down, do we not get up? If you poison us, do we not use condi cleanse? And if you insist that the game isn’t meant to be played by only beserkers, will we not try to make you see reason? If we’re like you in everything else, we’ll resemble you in that respect. If a berserker offends a cleric guardian, bearbow ranger or rifle warrior, what is their kind and gentle reaction? Revenge. If a one of those offends a berserker, what punishment will he come up with if he follows the cleric guardian, bearbow ranger or rifle warrior’s example? Of course, the same thing—revenge! I’ll treat you as badly as you taught me to—and you’ll be lucky if I don’t outdo my teachers.
Yeah…. I’ve got waaaaayyyy to much downtime in between practice tests at school.

Don’t be daft. There are tools available that tell me what gear, skills, and traits everyone in the party is using. Don’t need gear checks, just check the tool and you have all the info you need.
Edit* Send your bets to Dankies in game and I will keep a tally of who bet on who. I’ll offer 3:1 odds on Azrell and 2:1 odds for hendo.
My bad. Didn’t know there were tools that used this. What time? I wanna place some gold on colsey.
Not that I don’t trust you Colsey, but there should be a neutral third party so that there’s no shadow of a doubt as to the final results.
By the way, who’s moderating this bet?
No offence Azreell, but I don’t think you know who you’re betting against. Oh well…. I guess I’ll be asking colsey for a loan tomorrow.
Miku, have I told you that it’s just disgusting how good you are?
Miku, do you have a Alphard warrior solo somewhere? I’m having a difficult time soloing her on my warrior, and I learned a lot from your Lupi solos when I was practicing on him.
You’re blaming the skilled players for making players bad. It’s this exact attitude that’s just so destructive.
By taking this line of thinking, it puts the onus of why players do poorly… on the people who are doing well. It just boggles my mind.
^ Exactly this.
@ Alice: You seem to be lacking knowledge that everyone else has. Since I’m a helpful (if somewhat conceited) person, I’ll enlighten you.
You’re criticizing Neko for not doing enough to help new players. Do you realize how ridiculous that is? He wrote a guide to help new players.
A lot of us “stacking-skipping-zerker-elitist-scum” have also done a lot to help new players. I wrote a guide to help them. I posted speed-run videos on gwscr.com that, if any new players ever bothered to watch, would help them learn efficient tactics. I’m a meta mentor in the official dungeon forum teaching guild. Many, many other players with similar mindsets have done the same things: writing guides, posting vids, answering questions, teaching new players, etc.
What I’ve noticed is this: There are a hell of a lot more of us helping new players than there are “anti-stacking, anti-skipping, anti-zerking, anti-elitists” helping anybody.
+1 on this (minus the enlightening bit, as I’m not nearly as good as Anierna and don’t think I could enlighten anyone). Every time I’m feeling particularly masochistic, I go on LFG and take PuGs through Arah. Sometimes I have to carry them, sometimes they’re decent players, but 100% of the time, they’re grateful that someone is teaching them.
OP, I think I kinda see your point in a way, and forgive me if I’m misinterpreting. I do believe, however, that the fault does not lie with stacking per say, but with people only learning to do things one way, and that way is continuously reinforced by the vast majority of the player population, whether or not they understand it, and when something changes either on the fly or by patch, they’re not able to adapt. I know that I’ve personally fallen into that trap with many changes in game before I actually decided to practice and become a better player. Unfortunately, the average PuG isn’t practicing tactics or refining strategies, so when things change, they can’t adapt.
I would not call this a fault of stacking however, but a stagnation of content that, by its very nature, allows players to wallow in their own mediocrity.
Thanks Lilith!! Appreciate it!
“You would think that out of all the people me, Dontain, WoodenPotatoes and MattVisual are least likely to get hacked because we are popular youtubers that give free promotion for the game and help the community.”
Does he really think those hackers from China target specific people? Or does he think ArenaNet hacked his email, changed his GW2 pass, then deleted his characters and then aided him in the recovery of his account over multiple weeks? What the hell…
I have no idea if he actually has brain cells with his head so far up his kitty.
I’m genuinely confused as to why this guy has more subscribers on YouTube than DeKeyz, Brazil and Nike combined. Not that it matters in the slightest, but he sounds boring as all hell and his builds (from what I’ve gathered) are sub par for PvE. Maybe someone who knows more about MMOs than me could enlighten me.
BTW, how do all you cool kids get those signatures? I’m kinda slow when it comes to figuring things out technically on the forums. (I just say that I’m a hardware guy and hope that I don’t come off looking clueless)
Please don’t think that I’m being condescending or rude, but is there anyone in NA that can help me solo/duo Alphard with Warrior? I’m having real difficulty with him in a group because of all the spell effects, and I want to be able to survive the fight (it being the last fight in Arah I’m not completely comfortable with before I apply to be an Arah mentor).
Thanks all!

I haven’t gotten a full line yet…. Anyone score a bingo yet?
I think we need to add one line and column so we have a free middle spot (and put “Lilith owns all in fashion”, so it’ll always be crossed out).
So, I finally decided on some personal style, and hoping that I can get some feedback. Arah chest, shoulders and legs, primeval boots, draconic gauntlets with glowing mask. Abyss and Oxblood dyes w/ chalk for the hands.
These builds have different purposes, so I think it’s silly to outright say one is better than the other. The axe warrior build may be better when you do not need the defensive utility from the greatsword and want a relatively simple playstyle, but I think 30/25 is a superior build for solo content and encounters where the extra evade or repositioning from GS 3/5 are beneficial.
Per Nike: In an optimal group running 1 warrior, bring the 4/6/0/4/0 build (can sub in gs+a/m for pure axe if you feel more comfortable doing it, although from what I understand, there’s a dps loss). For groups w/ more than 1 warrior, use the 6/6/0/2/0 build (could likely sub in “old” meta here as well, w/ scholar instead of strength), and for soloing stuff, do the “old” meta w/ strength runes instead of scholar for perma 25 might stacks. Colsey also tested the new phalanx trait, and he said it’s viable in dungeon running as well.
I think that Tree said it best: “Go with whatever build you’ll screw up the rotations the least” (or something to that effect). I love my gs, and personally, unless my guild is going for a record clear, i.e. a casual run, I’m going to be running the “old” meta, or a gs modified new meta as I screw up the rotations the least
.
I’ll be interested in seeing more testing like Dub is doing. The “real world” results are always different than the results done in a vacuum.
You’re good enough for lupicus. Just practice the crap out of him. It took me 20 hours of practice before i was able to solo him. I think you’ll be there in no time! Good job!
Yeah, it wasn’t too bad at first, had to solo Lupi a couple times, but then my mouse stopped responding to my button pressing…. Annoying as all hell. Anyway, it IS kinda fun soloing Lupi/other bosses when pugs all wipe. You’re colsey, right hendo? I remember one of the images you posted where everyone is bowing to you. That’s always nice.
People keep asking for Hard Mode in GW2. I humbly present the following hard mode:
Open up LFG—> Dungeons—>Ruined City of Arah—>Advertise party
“Path (whatever), Melee Lupi, Experienced” or something along those lines.
Get in your PuG an AP hunting ele, a Warrior that doesn’t have any idea what he’s/she’s doing, a Guard that’s running staff and a mesmer that seems to know what he’s doing.
Get to Lupi.
Ask in party chat “Meleeing Lupi, right? Mes get 1st fb, Guard, 2nd.”
Mes: “Ok.”
Guard: "huh? what do i reflect? when?
War: no response
Ele: r
Fight Lupi. Mes uses feedback in phase 1. Ele ranges. Warrior spawns grubs. Guard gets kicked/locust’d to death.
PuGging IS hard mode!!!!
Yeah, I know which one. That other Nike has no idea what he’s talking about. RIP in peace Nike. You are missed in the forums sir.
Is it bad that I don’t believe anyone outside the dungeon forum regulars (and two guys in bltc forum)?
You can trust Nike too, even if he can’t post here anymore (rip Nike).
Definitely trust Nike. Can’t believe he got perma-banned for what he did. *smh
Is it bad that I don’t believe anyone outside the dungeon forum regulars (and two guys in bltc forum)?
Okay, lets think this through. I think PvPers should be the RICHEST players… Why? We’re like the football (Insert other sport here) players of Guild Wars 2. PVE players are like the daily workers. They can grind away their lives but we’re the real excitement worth watching. When you want to hype someone up over the game you don’t show them a chump-train you show them a guy beating some other guys kitten in some BLOOD SPORTS ACTION!
So. Because I feel like PVPers, the blood sport-Hathletes, should be the most well paid, I suggest games are paid based on ELO/Rating.
- PVE heroes come in, do a team que, they get like 10s lose/20s win.
- Top tier players do a game in tpvp they should get greatly increased rewards per game like 50 per lose and 2g per win. AND contract bonuses… And a Ferrari.Why? Because we do something worth getting paid for.
Thanks for your time.
Hire me.
I’m a PvE guy. I can solo Lupicus and Arah. I grinded out my legendary gs. I also decided to do some PvP with the new patch. Wow. I got my rear end handed to me on a silver platter.
I agree with a lot of what you’re saying. It’s just not fair that top end PvPers can’t make a fraction of what I can make in a very minor amount of time. While I don’t think that you should be making more than we PvEers, there should definitely be an economic balance there.
I’m just trying to figure out what you think ISN’T an exploit. As for skipping, why isn’t it ok? In video games and real life combat, if you don’t want to fight an enemy combatant, you move around him. This is my first mmo, so maybe you can explain this whole “anti-skip/no stack” argument for me. Stacking is a strategy that makes it easier to survive in this game, the original mmo (d&d) and in real life (ancient example: phalanx formation. Squad based combat is regularly used in the army. Dear jeebus, you get your rear end chewed in bct if you’re more than a few feet away from your battle buddy during training).
If you want to play a certain way, great. Just because you want to play this way, however, doesn’t mean that the game wasn’t meant to be played this way, however, or give you right to try to make others play the way you do.
15- “Buying” a dungeon essentially equates to you entering into the dungeon, paying whoever asks for money, they kill the boss while you sit, sipping your tea, and collect your tokens/gold from boss. You’ll loose some money if you do this, but it’s an easy way to get tokens/level alts/dungeon master title. A suggestion if you do this: Get a screen shot of the sellers names before you pay, that way, if they grief you, you have evidence when you report them.
16- There is, and I think that it’s approx. a 3% total damage increase with a combo of zerk/assassin’s right now. HOWEVER, this will change with the April 15th patch that nerfs crit damage. It’s suggested by the people that build, test, and do the math for these things, that you’ll want to stay w/ a pure berserker build after the April 15th patch, if you’re going to be running a meta build for highest dps in PvE.
I suggest subscribing to Nike’s channel (I think it’s turbodzan on YouTube) for suggestions on good builds. He gives really great advice, and can point you in the right direction if he doesn’t know an answer to your question. Pay attention to the forum regulars on this sub, as they’re really attentive when it comes to changes in optimal dps, and generally really nice and answer questions in game if you have them.
Good luck, and welcome to dungeons :-)
I used to get kicked from pugs quite often, especially when I did Arah. I admitted to myself that I sucked and wanted to get better. I asked for help on the forums, admitting to my suckiness (admitting you have the problem is the first step in correcting it), found a few mentors, practiced my rear end off, and got my first Lupi solo 10 days ago. [Yes, I remember the day :-)]
I would also second [third?] the previous suggestions to get better. If you can carry the party through any path in any dungeon, you’ll not get kicked 99% of the time, and if you do get kicked for scamming purposes [or heit trolled], you can report it and possibly something’ll get done.
If this has been answered before, please forgive me, as the search function in the forums doesn’t seem to be working for me.
Is there a tool/website that measures market movement on a specific item? For example; x item has sold y times in z hours/days/weeks.
Thank you in advance. I’m trying to get into tp flipping and looking for tools to plan things out in advance.
Solo’d Lupi for the first time yesterday. Danced around my apartment irl.
(edited by IvanTheGrey.2941)
will ignore dungeons even more
Is that even possible?
True. It doesn’t seem like it could be, but I have a general bad feeling about this.
Never mind :-)
Thank you Leo!!!!
This just goes to show that ANYONE can learn arah and solo Lupi! 4 months ago, I couldn’t even make it through an entire run!!! If it wasn’t for Iaharl’s teachings, I couldn’t have gotten here at all :-)
Thank you Leo and Iaharl!!!!!
This just makes me sad. I feel that people, and in turn developers, will ignore dungeons even more now that people don’t NEED to run them to get the tokens for legendary/armor. Oh well.
“All is vain”
Getting very discouraged on my Lupi solo attempt. 15 hours of practice and still have massive amount of trouble on phase 3. Would gladly pay 10-15 gold to have someone mentor me through this so I can cross the biggest item off my GW2 list.
I play a zerk/scholar warrior.
Axe (superior undead slaying)/Sword (Energy)
Greatsword (Superior undead slaying)
Slaying potion
Bowl of curry butternut squash/sweet and spicy (depends on what I hope will help)
HALP!!
I’m on NA Sanctum of Rall, usually in the evenings. I’ve got ts/mumble as needed. I’ve got all the videos of solos pretty much memorized and know the tactics (in theory) inside and out, it’s just performing them that I can’t seem to pull off
yeah, you were trying to explain it to me and I kinda forget when it was that you were talking about… I’ll ask you again in game when I play again
Thanks buddy.
Leo, when you and I worked on him, you were saying something about dodging his aoe life drink… Where should his hand be when you dodge?
Then I was talking about Life Drain. Thanks!
Yeah, I was talking about life suck. I’ll give it another go when I’m at home again and will try it that way. Thanks all!
Sorry to bring this back, but I had some more questions:
I did a few hours of practicing and I now find that this [single target in groups] life suck move gets me even when I dodge. Is there a certain instant when you’re supposed to start to dodge/wwa? I want to be able to get the timing right, but it didn’t seem to work to well on my runs. That and some dumb RNG… grrr….
Thanks for the advice!
It WAS you noobgood! You’re Leo! Cool! Anyways, I didn’t get him to phase 2, but I consistently got him through phase 1 and into phase 2. I figure taking him apart phase by phase consistently will do me the most good in the long run. It was a great 2 hours spent, lemme tell you. Thank you for your help!!!
ty Joey. was able to do it easily. I realize that it’s not perfectly “legit”, but I’m trying to get to Lupi to practice him, and I’d rather not waste 2 hours on Belka like I have been doing
Two hours of good Lupi practice today
. Well worth the time
